A/N: Thanks for the kind reviews. They are appreciated.
This chapter is set after season 12. It features the combination of Booth, Brennan, Sully, a treehouse, and a piece of jewelry. The treehouse is kind of a stretch, but I think it works.
"What a lovely place! What a magnificent view of the ocean!" Brennan smiled happily as she and Booth walked across the beach towards a venue where they were to attend a wedding. "The Grace Bay Beach here on Caicos has been rated as one of the top beaches in the world because of the beautiful views and the fabulous sunsets. I can understand why Sully and his fiancee would want to get married here."
Booth nodded as he studied the rustic open air pavilion, which had been built in such a style as to blend in naturally with a grove of palm trees. "It's kinda cool that they used layers of palm fronds for the roof, right? It kinda gives it that whole 'being in a treehouse' feel...kinda like one of those huts they built on Swiss Family Robinson or Gilligan's Island…and you know, I actually wouldn't mind seeing Mary Ann stroll on by right about now in those cute little shorts..."
Rolling her eyes at Booth's silly grin, Brennan chuckled. "Well, those large fronds are waterproof, which is practical in case of a passing shower, and also easily replaced if the pavilion is damaged in some sort of severe tropical weather event." She gave Booth a coy glance as she took his hand. "So...here we are...just the two of us in this gorgeous place. The children are happy staying with their Aunt Angela back in DC, and we get to spend some quality time together at a very romantic tropical resort. Are you still annoyed that I insisted we come to Sully's destination wedding?"
"No, I guess not…at least not as much as I was when you first brought it up." He shrugged as he put his hand in the small of her back to guide her towards their seats. "I mean, it is kind of a long way to come for a wedding, but the scenery's nice…"
"And as I recall, you enjoyed the scenery quite a bit last night when we took our midnight stroll along the resort's private beach. The sky was so clear and the stars were so bright…"
Wearing a naughty smirk, Booth gently squeezed her knee. "I don't remember anything about the stars...I was too busy looking at my beautiful wife." He chuckled softly. "I mean, I guess that beach isn't technically clothing optional, but who cares, right? We had a good time, and more importantly, we didn't get caught having all that fun. In fact, I think maybe we should take a walk again tonight..."
Giggling, Brennan pretended to scold her husband. "Behave yourself!" Offering an innocent smile to some guests who were seated next to them, she dropped her voice to a whisper. "Maybe we could take another walk, or perhaps we could just spend the evening in our hotel room enjoying room service. The balcony is very private, and it has a spectacular view of the bay." She licked her lips as she gave him a sidelong glance. "Have you ever made love in a hammock suspended over the ocean?"
Groaning softly, Booth shifted uncomfortably in his seat. His Bones looked beautiful in her sapphire blue halter dress, which accentuated her curves perfectly, and he knew she'd look even more beautiful without it. "They need to get this show on the road. What's taking so long?"
Brennan glanced at her watch. "Be patient. I'm sure it'll start soon. I imagine they're waiting for the sun to set…"
"Right." Looking out across the ocean toward the horizon, Booth muttered to himself. "Damn that Sully...always keeping me from having fun with Bones…"
Warm ocean breezes wafted through the pavilion while the guests were seated, causing the grove of trees to whisper gently as a harpist began to play soft music to set the romantic mood. Brightly colored tropical flowers in tall planters exuded their sweet, heavy fragrances, creating an almost dreamlike ambience for the venue. Soon the bright blue sky over the ocean deepened to a royal purple as the sun edged down towards the horizon.
Finally Sully appeared in the twilight, walking up a path to the venue behind a woman in a white robe. Clad in a white linen island shirt and khaki pants, he smiled happily as he stood in the center of the space, waiting for his bride to be to join him.
As the minister gestured for the congregants to rise, the harpist began to play Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You. Recognizing the song, Brennan leaned into Booth. "What a wonderful choice for a wedding…"
Soon a woman could be seen walking along the opposite path to the pavilion. Wearing a simple white sleeveless shift dress, she carried a single long stemmed white rose. Blushing slightly as she met her bridegroom, she held out her hand to him and they stood together before the minister.
The officiant nodded at the guests. "Please be seated. Let us pray: Lord, we ask your blessing on this couple as they stand before you. They desire to travel through life's stormy seas together, knowing that You alone will provide them safe passage as they navigate the hidden shoals and reefs that may await them. Help them stay afloat no matter how overladen they might feel. May You go before them as their chart and compass, giving them a full hold and smooth sailing until the end of their days on Your beautiful blue waters. Amen."
"Amen." Sitting back in his chair, Booth smiled at Brennan. "I'm sensing a theme…"
Winking at him, she nodded. "Perhaps so."
Addressing the couple standing before her, the minister smiled. "Timothy Sullivan and Diana McLain stand before you today, thankful that you are here to witness their solemn vows to each other. They appreciate your love and care for them...they are grateful that you have taken time to support them as they take this important step together. We all know that living life can be like venturing through uncharted waters, but when two people face that challenge together, the voyage becomes much easier. Of course, there might be a bit of a blow from time to time...maybe even a hurricane or two...but nothing that can't be weathered with some effort. With that in mind, let's go full sail into the reason why we're here. I now ask you, Diana, in the presence of God and this company...do you take Timothy to be your husband, prepared to make your way through both the rough waters and the calm seas as his wife? Will you love and cherish him, doing everything in your power to help him to stay shipshape as you sail through life together?"
"I do, and I will."
"And you, Timothy, in the presence of God and this company...do you take Diana to be your wife? Will you love and cherish her, in fair weather and squall, doing everything you can to keep the ship of your marriage seaworthy?"
"I do, and I will."
"Are there rings to be exchanged?"
"Yes." Diana took a man's gold ring from the pocket of her dress and slipped it on her husband's finger. "Sully, take this gift as a token of my love. You are my anchor, and my harbor in life's storms. I love you with all my heart."
"Diana, take this ring as a token of my love." He held up a gold ring set with a large pearl. "You are so rare and beautiful, just like this pearl...like an exquisitely perfect gift from the sea. I'm honored to be your husband. I love you more than I can say."
The sun had continued it's journey to the sea as the ceremony had proceeded, and the sky now was gilded with magnificent yellows and oranges, as if it was on fire, casting a glow over the pavilion. Against that incredible backdrop, the minister turned to the couple with her hands raised in blessing. "Then in the name of God the Father, God the Son and Goth the Holy Spirit and in accordance with the laws of the United Kingdom and the United States of America, I now pronounce you to be married...this nautical knot has been tied. Congratulations, Timothy and Diana. You may kiss each other now as husband and wife."
The guests cheered as the happy couple kissed and then left the pavilion hand in hand to the tune of Anchors Aweigh. The minister pointed toward the beach and addressed the crowd. "Sully and Diana would like all of you to join them at the reception, which has been set up just down the hill from here on the beach. Let's all go and greet the happy couple."
Ooooooooooo
The wedding guests were laughing and talking as they enjoyed a seafood buffet and various cocktails. Sully and Diana were mingling with the crowd, happily receiving congratulations and best wishes.
"Hey, Booth! Tempe!" Sully beamed as he shook hands with his friends. "Thanks so much for coming!" He turned to his wife. "Diana, this is Seeley Booth...a guy I used to work with at the FBI...and this is Temperance Brennan…"
Diana's eyes widened in realization. "You mean you're the Temperance...as in the boat?"
"Yes, I suppose I am…" Brennan smiled as she shook the woman's hand. "It's nice to finally meet you. Sully has told me so much about you, and he was absolutely right...you are exceptionally beautiful."
Shrugging shyly, Sully smiled at Diana. "Tempe has a great memory...she probably remembers everything I ever told her about you…"
Brennan nodded with a smile. "He was quite taken with you from the beginning…"
Booth cleared his throat softly. "So where are you two going for your honeymoon?"
"We don't know yet." Diana giggled as she took Sully's hand. "Wherever the wind blows…"
"We're going to take at least six weeks and cruise the islands without an itinerary. I...uh...I sold the Temperance and got a bigger boat so we can go pretty much wherever we want. I got someone to manage the sandwich shop, and Diana can practice her oboe whenever she wants." He laughed softly. "I loved the Temperance, but I figured maybe it wouldn't be a good idea to sail with my new wife on a boat named for a former girlfriend."
"Yeah, probably not.," Booth chuckled in agreement as he turned to Diana. "He's a smart guy, isn't he? I taught him everything he knows."
"The ceremony was lovely," Brennan commented. "I enjoyed all of the nautical references."
Sully quickly explained. "Mother De Leon is a retired minister. She used to charter my boat so she could help people who wanted to spread their loved ones' ashes at sea."
"We loved her ideas," Diana added. "It's so 'us'..."
"Yeah...it was perfect." Smiling happily, Sully nodded at Booth and Brennan. "Well, we'd better mingle some more. Enjoy the buffet…"
"Yeah, thanks." Booth reached out to shake Sully's hand. "Congratulations, buddy...you deserve it."
"Keep in touch…," Brennan said. "...when you get a chance. I know you're going to be busy."
"You got it. Bye now…"
"Goodbye."
Watching as the newlyweds walked away, Booth drained his beer bottle and then took Brennan's wine glass from her. "Okay...me and you need to get outta here...now!"
"What's the rush?" Brennan pouted a little bit. "I wanted to get some more stuffed mushrooms from the buffet."
"You can get some to go." Booth waggled an eyebrow at her. "We need to leave. Me and you have a balcony hammock to try out…"
"Booth...you can't be serious. I was joking when I mentioned having sex in that hammock…"
"Yeah, but it was a challenge, and as you know, Bones, I love challenges…"
She gave him a sultry smile, licking her lips seductively as she put her arms around his neck. "Do you think you're up to it? It might require some...gymnastics…"
"Yeah, well...we'll give it a try, okay? I mean, we're not leaving until the day after tomorrow, so...if we get tangled up in it, we'll have a day to recover, right?" He kissed her passionately. "Besides, weddings get me thinking about things…you know...sexy things we can do together."
"I know...that's why I suggested that we attend Sully's wedding." She slowly ran her hands down his chest. "So...shall we?"
"Oh, yeah, Bones...we shall...we most definitely shall…all night long..."
She giggled quietly before giving him a kiss. "In that case...you're correct. We need to leave...now!"
A/N part 2. I looked all over the place for the name of Sully's girlfriend who was mentioned in The Grief and The Girl, but I couldn't find it. I'm sorry if I missed it and this name is wrong.
If you have time to review, I'd appreciate it. Thanks for reading. Laura.
