Chapter 13: This Isn't a Fucking Game

Later that day Selina noticed she was getting some disgusted and judgmental looks. Some of the douchey guys were checking her out and cat calling her. Usually they knew to stay away otherwise they'd feel the wrath of Bruce. Yet here they were checking her out like she was fair game. Even worse was the looks the other girls gave her. The all too familiar looks like the girls at her last school when the false rumors spread that she was screwing everybody.

She approached Harley and Ivy.

"Why is everyone looking at me like that?"

Harley nervously scratched her head. "Um, there's kinda this nasty article in the school paper going around about you."

"What article?"

Ivy sighed and pulled it up on her phone. "Selina before you say anything, just know we didn't tell a soul."

Selina took her phone, read the article and felt her heart sink. "No fucking way."

She wanted it to be fake. Part of some bad dream, but it was real. It was an article about her cheating on Bruce. And everyone in the school was talking about it. There was an attached audio recoding of her confession that she didn't have the strength to press. Then she saw "Article by Vicki Vale."

Selina felt a raging fire build inside her. She flared her nostrils and clinched her fists.

"I'm gonna kill that fucking bitch."

Bruce also noticed some looks throughout the day. The looks he got were more like looks of sorrow and pity. Like they felt bad for him. He just ignored it and went on with his day as is.

During lunch he noticed some poor guy getting bullied. It was Humphry Dumpler. He had the unfortunate nickname Humpty Dumpty due to his egg shaped head and obese size. He was also slightly autistic and didn't do well under pressure.

Two guys were making fun of him for all of his differences. None of which he really had any control over.

Bruce wasted no time to intervene. He walked up to both of them and stared them down.

"Leave him alone. Or you'll be attending zoom classes in the intensive care unit for the rest of the year."

They were nervous but didn't want to back down without a fight. "Why're you so mad Wayne? Did you hear about how we tag teamed your girl? Shit I bet half the school has had a turn on her."

Bruce just stared them down, and then took one step toward them. They ran off as fast as they could.

"Fuckin punks." He turned back to Humphry. "You okay?"

He nodded. "Yea, I guess." He looked down at his tray. "It's not my fault I'm like this. I have a weird condition thats made me bald my whole life. And I have a thyroid problem that makes it almost impossible for me to lose weight."

Bruce sat down across from him. "That's rough. Life isn't fair sometimes."

"Believe me if I could be a football star like you I would."

Bruce nodded. "So why don't you? Join the team."

Humphry looked up at him. "Wait? Really?

"Sure. Our left tackle last year graduated so I could use a new one. A big guy like you, learn how to block somewhat well and I wouldn't have to worry about a single blindside hit all season long."

"B-but.. But I'm fat."

"So is every lineman in existence. The best part about football is that great players some in all sorts of shapes and sizes."

He never had someone believe in him like this. "You really think I could make it?"

"Anyone can make it with the right mindset. Just believe you can do it and push yourself."

Humphry nodded. "I'll think about it."

Bruce smiled. "Practices start next week. I'd like to see you there. It's Humphry right?"

"Yeah. But everyone calls me Humpty Dumpty." He sighed.

Bruce shook his head. "Well I'm gonna stick with Humphry. I'm..."

"You're Bruce Wayne. Yea I know. Everyone knows... Thanks Bruce."

With a smile and nod Bruce got up and walked off. As he walked away Clark met up with him.

"Bruce, we got a problem."

Bruce groaned. "Already? Can't we just enjoy the win over Talia for even a day?"

"Oh I hear you man. But now we have a Vicki problem. Check it out."

He showed Bruce the article she wrote. "God! Dammit! Vicki." He groaned. He turned to Clark. "Selina's gonna kill her."

Clark nodded. "Yeah I know."

"No I mean literally kill her in cold blood."

"Yeah. Trust me I know."

"We gotta find them before they find each other."

"On it."

They didn't have to look far. A large crowd of students had gathered in the main hall. Bruce and Clark pushed their way through quickly to find Selina ontop of Vicki, wailing on her.

Selina emptied her whole arsenal on her. Elbows, knees, hammer-fists. She even pulled her by her hair and hit her head against the floor."

Bruce grabbed Selina and pried her off her.

"Selina! Stop! That's enough!"

"Not good enough! Let me go!"

Clark helped Vicki up to her feet and placed himself in front of her. He felt what Vicki did was wrong, but this wasn't the right way to handle this.

"You want to ruin my life? I'll fucking end yours!" Selina shouted struggling against Bruce's grip around her. "Goddammit Bruce, let me go!

Bruce held Selina tightly in his arms. "It's okay. It's okay baby."

Tears rolled down Selina's cheeks. "No it's not. It's just like my last school. Everyone thinks I'm a fucking whore because of her."

"Well you kinda are." Vicki called out tending to her broken nose.

Selina tried to charge for her again but Bruce held her back.

"I'll fucking kill you! You fucking snake!"

"Selina stop! This isn't the way! This isn't the way!" He picked her up and turned her away.

Selina fell to her knees. Bruce fell to his as well and kept his tight hold of her. His cheek pressed against hers as he tried to comfort her.

"I'm sorry Bruce." Vicki called out. "But you deserved to know the truth."

Bruce shot a terrifying glare at her. "Shut your goddamn mouth. You keep your distance or I won't stop her again."

Vicki couldn't believe it. The pure anger in his eyes directed at her.

"You crossed the line. This isn't a fucking game. This is our life!" He turned his attention to the crowd. "Enjoy the fucking show assholes? You get a good eyeful? Fucking creeps!"

Selina wiped her tears away and shook her head. All the energy and life in her body was gone.

"Bruce... I just wanna go home." She said softly.

"Okay. Let's get you home." Bruce helped her up and held her tightly as they walked off. "It's okay, Cat." He tried to assure her.

With no emotion in her voice she replied. "No it's fucking not and you know it."

They were in the car on their way home. So many questions in Bruce's mind as he drove. Selina in the passenger seat next to him just stared aimlessly out the window.

"How'd she find out?" Bruce asked.

Selina sighed. "You felt so guilty you told Clark. I felt so guilty I told Harley and Pammy. I didn't realize that bitch was recording us. If I did I would've turned that fucking thing sideways and shoved it up her ass."

Bruce took one hand off the wheel, reached over and took her hand.

"We'll figure this out, Cat. I promise."

Selina wiggled her hand out of his grip. "Don't make promises you know you can't keep, Bat."

When they got home, Bruce gave Selina some time to vent alone. Meanwhile he had to feel the wrath of Alfred lecturing him about skipping school. Once he showed him the article he loosened up a bit and understood.

Bruce later went to comfort Selina in their room. The two bedroom system Alfred tried to install had not lasted long.

She was curled up on the bed with tears in her eyes. She had cut her hair shorter. Almost like a pixie cut. But it wasn't very good.

"What happened?" He asked.

"I had to delete my Instagram, Facebook, everything. Everyone's attacking everything about me. Half of them said something about my hair. So I cut it. Now i look like Rachel Maddow, who I hate." More tears flooded her eyes. "I'm sorry Bruce! I'm such a stupid bitch."

"Don't you say that! Never say that about yourself. I love you too damn much to hear you say something so horrible about yourself." He came up behind her and tried to hold her. She hit his hand away. He sighed. "Why are you trying to push me away?"

"Because... I don't know." She turned to him and allowed him to wrap his arms around her and hold her. She melted into his embrace. "It's just something stupid I do when I'm upset." She looked into his eyes. "You do the same thing when you're upset too."

Bruce nodded. "I suppose we're both prone to self destructive behavior then." He ran his hand through her poorly cut hair.

"Suppose we are." She buried her head in his chest. "If you want to break up with me I don't blame you."

"Selina!"

"I'm a drag on your life and-..."

"Selina you are my life! I am nothing without you! So you can just cut it out with that load of bullshit!"

She couldn't help but crack a small smile. She liked it when he fought for her like that.

"How are we gonna fix this?" She asked.

"Fix what?"

She looked up at him.

"I mean it." He continued. "I know the truth and you know the truth. Everyone else's opinion matters zero to me."

She smiled and kissed him. "You know for a total hard-ass, you really are a sweetheart sometimes."

He smiled and kissed her back. "Let's just forget about everything. We'll stay in, binge watch every episode of "Friends" again, and start over tomorrow. Anyone gives us grief about something that isn't their business, and we'll tell them to fuck off."

He kissed her again. He trailed them from her lips to her neck. Selina bit her bottom lip and purred to his touch. She then thought about what he said about binge watching "Friends". She thought about the classic show she loved and gasped.

"Holy shit Bruce I got it!"

"Got what?"

"We were on... a break!"
