Her trip to Canada lasted two days longer then excepted, Elizabeth finally entered their home it was late at night, the kids were asleep she assumed Henry was sleeping as well. But as soon as she entered, Henry was sitting on the chair, "Hey babe!".
She jumped a little, "Henry, what you are doing up." He walked over to her pulling her into a hug, kissed her temple. Elizabeth melted into his arms, she missed him. "Well, I am not going to bed without you. I missed you." He placed her hand on her hand on her stomach. "And how are my little munchkins". He said smiled, Elizabeth gave him a smile back, her head laying on his shoulder. "Good, we missed you, I am so tired though." He hugged her tighter and wrapped his arm around her waist, walking into the kitchen. "Are you hungry?". Elizabeth shook her head, "No I ate already, I just want to sleep."
They got to their bedroom, Elizabeth got into her PJS, and feel asleep as soon as she hit the comforter.
Elizabeth woke up the next morning and went downstairs, the kids were all talking while Henry was making waffles. She walked over to him, as he started making her plate. She took it happily, he kissed on the cheek. The kids were in the living room, Elizabeth finished quickly, placing the plate in the sink. "So, I think I am going to tell my staff and Conrad today."
Henry looked up, nodding. "Yeah, I think it's safe now." Elizabeth sighed, taking a deep breathe. Henry rubbed her arms to calm her down. "Don't worry, it be fine babe."
"Yeah, you right, I can do this!". She gave him a quick kiss and said bye to the kids.
Walking into her conference room, her staff was already there. "Okay guys, so I have an announcement". Suddenly all the eyes were on her, everyone faces were so serious, Elizabeth wanted to burst out laughing.
"Okay so, I am pregnant. With twins!" She said hesitantly. The seriousness on their faces were turned into shock, and wide eyes. Matt was the first one to speak and laugh. "Okay, where is the cameras, this some sort of prank right?"
Elizabeth gave him the serious look, which made him quiet. "No, I am serious! This is happening"!
Nadine cleared her throat and smiled to make it less awkward. "Well, congratulation madam, we will have to adjust your travel but nothing we can't handle."
Elizabeth let out a sign of relief, smiling. "Thanks, Nadine."
Daisy was the next one to speak." Ma'am when do you want us to inform the press? They will start speculating you know eventually."
"I know, I don't want the news to go out, till few more weeks. Just few super simple statements to confirm. I do not want a big spectacle out of this."
Daisy nodding in understanding. But everyone knew it would be a big thing. She was the secretary of state, and a popular one at that.
Nadine spoke again, seeing the concern look on her face. "Ma'am, I am sure everything will be fine. And wow twins! Dr. McCord and the kids must be so excited"
Elizabeth nodded, appreciating Nadine. "Yeah Henry, Stevie and Ali are excited, Jason is getting there"
Just then Blake came in saying she needed at the white house. On the motorcade ride to the white house, Elizabeth was nervous. Telling her staff was easy, but telling her boss, the president was going to be hard. And then there was Russell. She took a deep breath before getting out of the car.
Walking into the oval office, it was just Conrad and Russell they both were sitting looking at files. "Okay here goes nothing" she thought.
"Bess have a seat; we have some developments on the climate deal."
Elizabeth took a seat, "Okay sir before we begin, there is something I need to tell you, and I don't know how to say this, because this was not supposed to happen, but this will not affect my job I promise, and I just..."
Conrad looked at her confused. "Bess you're babbling, get to the point".
"I am pregnant, with twins".
Conrad and Russell both looked at with shock, Elizabeth wanted to do was get out of the room.
"Well, that was not what I thought you were going to say." Conrad said smiling, "but congrats, you are different in every way as it is, and I have no doubt in your abilities".
Elizabeth felt a sigh of relief, "thank you sir." Russell who was still shocked looked at Elizabeth. "Soo twins...that's going to great for your campaign. America loves babies".
"Very funny, I don't plan on running".
Russell smirked "Yeah, we will see. anyways back to the deal".
Once the meeting was over Elizabeth headed back to the state department. She was much more relaxed on the ride back. Opening the door to her office, Henry was there with lunch.
"Henry! What you're doing here. I didn't know we were meeting for lunch."
"Well, I wanted to surprise you, and I brought Thai, your favorite". Elizabeth smiled at him, she loved him. Henry always knew what she wanted. They sat down to eat, while Elizabeth told him It went well with her staff and Conrad. She was so busy eating and talking, Henry kept smiling and adoring her. Elizabeth started to notice and hit his arm. "Are you, listening to me!"
He pulled her cheeks, "Your just so cute!" He proceeds to take her hand, bringing it to his lips. "We find out the gender in two weeks!"
She leaned her head against his shoulder. "I know, I am nervous Henry ". He placed a kiss to her head. She looked up, seeing Henry soft eyes and smile made her feel less worry. "We got this babe, and plus we have so many people to babysit now".
Elizabeth chuckled, "yeah that's true!" Henry squeezed her arm to reassure her again before speaking. "So, I was thinking we should do a mini trip somewhere, you know a babymoon, just me and you, before things get super crazy". Elizabeth looked up raising her eyebrows and laughing. "a babymoon? Henry with what time?".
He put his hands up in defense, "It's a thing babe, Stevie told me. And we will make time. And our anniversary is coming up in a few weeks. I will plan something!".
"Fine professor, as long as there is popcorn, I will be happy". Henry smiled back "Of course!".
Two weeks later Henry walked to their room and was shocked. There were clothes everywhere, Elizabeth was starting at the mirror, wearing a black dress. It was the same one, she wore for their anniversary in New York last year. He walked over to her and broke out into a smile. Elizabeth was frowning, running her hand over her tiny bump. "Henry, I swear, this happened over night."
He wrapped his arms her, pulling her into a hug. "Aww babe, you look adorable." Elizabeth leaned her head back, "Ughh how am I supposed to hide this, I have a state dinner tomorrow." She said frustrated.
"Babe, you look fine, I promise". Elizabeth contemplated before responding "No, I am going to wear something else."
Henry started gathering her clothes and putting it back on the hangers and into the closet, while Elizabeth changed for their appointment. She came downstairs few minutes later in jeans and cream sweater. The kids were watching TV while Henry was in the kitchen waiting.
"Mom, wait!" Stevie called out, as her and Ali rushed to their parents.
Henry and Elizabeth gave their attention to the children as Stevie. "We know you are founding out the gender, but we wanted to do a mini gender reveal party! "
Elizabeth thought for a moment and was unsure. "I don't know, do we have to? This already a surprise as it is."
Ali was quick to chime "mom, please! It would be cute, just us five, even Jace is in." As if on que Jason called out from the room, agreeing. Henry placed his arm around his wife. "Babe, I think we should, it will be cute moment to record."
Three puppy dog eyes were staring at her, and Elizabeth couldn't say no to. "Okay fine! but your dad and I still want to know today, so this mini party has to happen today."
Ali and Stevie rushed to hug their mum in excitement. "Yay! Just tell the doctor to put in the enveloped and Stevie will go to the balloon place, and I will decorate and get food!"
