He expects to trade and leave with her alive, taking her to the world she doesn't know is saved. What he doesn't expect is for Red Skull to tell him that the trade can work, but only if he gets to Natasha before she freezes to death.

He collapsed on the bathroom floor, struggling to suck down breaths with the taste of ash thick on his tongue.

Ben isn't sure if Klaus knows this but when he's high and the ghosts are drowned out, Ben is still there. Sometimes he's screaming at Klaus, not in anger (although that has happened too) but with worry and heartache. Because he's taken too much. Because that guy isn't going to stop when you say no. Because for the love of god you're killing yourself and I love you.

A starkingly different take on the scene directly after the attack on the mansion, because I saw an opportunity and I took it. In which one of the siblings, specifically the one who's always counting heads and keeping at least minimal record of the others, notices something amiss, and it's not the fact that two people in masks had attacked them in their own home.
