I left the last chapter on a bit of a dramatic cliffhanger so I hurried my way to a new document to get to work so you don't have to wait for too long to get some answers and good old fashion fun. Who's ready to totally legally acquire a truck with Heisenberg?

Internal Bleeding. Of course! What else could go wrong in this hell hole? Charlotte picked up her water bottle from its place next to the water purifier with her clean hand before heading back over to the half wall so she can hold her hand out and pour the water over it to wash it off.
"Charlotte?" Moreau asks with concern evident in his tone. "is you okay?"
"I'm fine just a bit dizzy." She says before shaking her hand to get the last of the water off. She couldn't afford to be sick right now.
"Ifs you're feeling sick we should tell mother," Moreau says as he goes to get the phone.
"No!" Charlotte says panicked which causes him to stop. "No, that's not necessary. I'm fine." If Miranda found out then there was a chance she'd just end up handed over to a lord for testing.
"..Okay. Ifs you're sure," Moreau replies before going back over to his seat to put in a new movie.
Charlotte moves to close the partition before sitting down on her sleeping bag and lean her back against the stone wall, leaning her head back to look at the ceiling. Come on. think of a plan. She didn't know enough about the problem to have a plan. she moves to curl up and hold her legs resulting in nausea once more though this time it passes. "I can't think properly like this," she whispers to herself as she rests her forehead against her knees. quiet tears leaked from her eyes. She was panicking and she knew it. but why shouldn't she, she'd been working so hard to buy time and suddenly her own body was working against her.
She takes a few deep breaths to try and get herself to relax and stop shaking. It took a good 30 minutes but the panic passes. okay. Analyze the problem.
Symptoms: abdomen pain, light spotting of blood in vomit, occasional dizzy spells, and nausea.
She nods as she makes the mental list and thinks it over. Okay, what could cause that. the main source of the problem seems to be her stomach since that the source of pain. If the bleeding was somewhere else in the body other than the digestive tract or an area that leaks into the digestive track she wouldn't have puked blood she would have had a bruise. probably. it was at least a start. Maybe if she could hold out for a month she could try and see a doctor during their next trip? who was she kidding? First off Heisenberg would never allow for that much of a distraction and second off international health insurance cases were a bitch. Charlotte looked over to her computer. She had already used it a lot more than she wanted to. She needed to save the battery life but that wasn't going to do her any good if she died because whatever this was got worse... What changed though? She was able to eat again she should be doing better. Ugh, food. She couldn't even think of food right now. She didn't even want to move.
All the same, she pushed herself to do so. Was she being a bit dramatic? Probably but this was extremely unpleasant and stressful. She shifted to lean against the wall again this time with her laptop sitting on her thighs. she opens the device and starts searching around the internet for answers.
Google: Blood in Puke
She looks over the screen and holds her face.
Vomiting blood (haematemesis)
If you vomit blood and also have a burning or gnawing pain in your stomach, the most likely causes are a stomach ulcer or severe inflammation of the stomach lining (gastritis). Bleeding happens when the ulcer or inflammation damages an artery.
A stomach ulcer or Gastritis? what was the difference? She pouts a bit as she tries searching around. it looked like this Gastritis thing had heartburn as an additional symptom. Luckily that was not something she was experiencing. so.
"A bleeding stomach ulcer..." she says quietly. How did that happen, how do you even fix that? and that was assuming this was the right answer. this was just the first result she found on google. all the same, she looked up stomach Ulcers and clicked around a bit.
Stomach ulcers occur when the thick layer of mucus that protects your stomach from digestive juices is reduced. This allows the digestive acids to eat away at the tissues that line the stomach, causing an ulcer.
Stomach ulcers may be easily cured, but they can become severe without proper treatment.
Stomach ulcers are almost always caused by one of the following:
an infection with the bacterium Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori)
long-term use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or naproxen
WELL GREAT! That answered that. it wasn't the use of aspirin so what the heck was... That other word she wasn't even going to try and pretend she could pronounce. Another quick google search and her eye twitched at the result.
After H. pylori enters your body, it attacks the lining of your stomach, which usually protects you from the acid your body uses to digest food. Once the bacteria have done enough damage, acid can get through the lining, which leads to ulcers. These may bleed, cause infections, or keep food from moving through your digestive tract.
You can get H. pylori from food, water, or utensils. It's more common in countries or communities that lack clean water or good sewage systems.
THE STUPID KNIFE? Really? really. She held her face and let out a tired groan. that had to be it she was purifying the water she drank and it was the only thing food-related that she touched that wasn't prepackaged. the lack of eating for three weeks probably didn't help the situation either. she at least knew as much that having food in your stomach was part of what kept the acid balanced and not eating the lining of the stomach. So having the lining weakened while she was susceptible to illness from a weakened immune system due to starvation which also meant the stomach had nothing to balance it, Then suddenly getting back to a normal level of eating rapidly after could have irritated the ulcer further. GOD DAMN IT. It was a perfect storm.
What was she supposed to do? She needed the calories and Cheese was calorically dense and the only way to get it out was that dumb knife. She wanted to be mad, to scream and throw something just to get the rage out of her but she sat and remained quiet. she allowed herself to hold her face for a bit longer and waited for the anger to pass so she could think rationally again.
Okay. We have a very likely candidate. how do you fix it? She went back to the tab on ulcers and started to scroll down and continued reading the page.
Talk to your doctor if you have any symptoms of a stomach ulcer. Even though discomfort may be mild, ulcers can worsen if they aren't treated. Bleeding ulcers can become life-threatening.
She quietly laughed as panic kicked back in. Of freaking course! because the fact that everyone around her wanted her dead wasn't enough her own body was trying to kill her. FOOP THIS. HOW DO YOU FIX IT?! She looked over the list. none of this was accessible. sever cases may require surgery... okay going to pretend she didn't see that... Bismuth supplements? H2 Receptor blockers? probiotic- actually. she might have that one. she went on a binge purchase spree of medicine and probiotics aren't locked away.
just in case she opened another tab and started digging around for ulcer home remedies. she didn't have much other choice. she looked over the list of diet changes. What in the heck was a Flavonoid? Licorice. yeah, that wasn't happening. Probiotics. already on the list. Honey, potentially. Garlic. That she knew was abundant around the village for some reason. She looked up the weird flavor word from before and was pleasantly surprised that it was basically just saying eat fruits and vegetables and that apples were a good source.
She looked at her battery indicator. 20%. she needed that last 20% for checking her emails for the proposal review... she shut down the laptop and moved to put it back where it was resting before. From the sound of it, she was already in a pretty bad spot but it wasn't irreversible. it was going to suck but if she watched what she ate she'd be okay. Oatmeal was going to be a staple of her diet, the website mentioned whole grains were okay.
.
She did just that. watching what she ate and monitored her symptoms, she managed to trade a few of the remaining Lei coins from her bag to a few of the villagers for some garlic and a bag of apples. she felt bad for it but she was able to get a bottle of the probiotics she bought for the villagers as well. Apples for breakfast with a probiotic pill, Oatmeal for lunch, and cold grits with garlic for dinner. It wasn't the most exciting diet but it was what she could keep down.
Each day was about the same she'd wake up have to breakfast before leaving the mine. Moreau would go for a swim while she went into the village and got to work fixing up some of the abandoned houses. her phone and youtube were certainly a heaven-sent when it came to figuring out how to do all this with hand tools. She had to do her best to keep the tiny device hidden though whenever villagers were around which resulted in a few mistakes. Even then the villagers were kind and would sometimes offer to help teach her how to go about the repairs more properly and provided a few extra tools like a Square edge, a level, and bless the stars. a ladder. by the end of the first week she had the walls and floors of one of the houses completely patched up. It had its ugly marks from her mistakes but it was much better than it was before... aside from the roof. she'd have to get the supplies for that with her next trip.
An unexpected oddity of her routine showed up after the first week. "Hello?" Moreau says when answering his phone. "Sister! you're calling for me?" Moreau asks surprised. "..oh... okay," he says with a sad tone before putting the phone down on the table instead of the receiver.
"Charlotte, sister wants to talk to you," Moreau says nervously.
"Sister?" oh lord which one? not that either of them would be good news for her. Moreau nods and she carefully moves to stand to avoid irritating her injury further. she picks up the phone.
"Charlotte speaking," she says in greeting.
"Good" Dimitrescu replies with a curt tone "Come to my castle through the servant's entryway. I require your assistance with this infernal contraption," she says with clear irritation.
"Oh," where was that... "I'll be there as soon as I can." she agrees, it wasn't like she could say no.
a click on the line informed her that the call was disconnected and charlotte put the phone back on the receiver. "Suppose I'm heading to the castle..." if this vampire hoe decided to eat her. Hopefully she ends up infected with whatever was going on in her gut as karma. with any luck, the garlic in her meals as of late would cause the vampiress some heartburn as a consequence.
"I'll be going to the castle," Charlotte says to Moreau as she heads over to gather a few things.
"Okay," Moreau says still a bit concerned but he nods and allows her to leave on her own for once. after being here for a little over a month he was starting to trust that she was going to come back even if she was on her own.
Charlotte made her way through the village and stopped to ask for directions for the servant's entrance of the castle. the doorway was rather grandiose even for the back door.
"Ms. Wiltse. We've been expecting you, please come with us," says a maid who had been waiting by the doorway.
Charlotte nods and follows the maid through the various rooms of the castle. each one was more over the top than the last as they leave the worker's quarters into the garden to the main foyer up the stairs and down the hallway. the doors all seemed relatively normal-sized. how did Dimitrescu get around in this place? the high ceilings certainly must be a blessing... The two eventually enter a narrow room. She wasn't really sure what to call it, it wasn't a closet but there was clothing and a dresser in it and the room seemed a bit narrow but even then it was larger than the space she had to share with Moreau.
"Ah there you are, you certainly know how to take your time," Says the tall pale woman who was sitting at a vanity "Come here child I require your assistance," Dimitrescu says and motions for Charlotte to walk over. she hesitates a bit but does so as the door is closed behind her by a maid. Sensing the hesitation Dimitrescu rolls her eyes. "Mother Miranda made her orders clear." she offers as a sense of peace.
Charlotte nods but keeps a slight distance all the same. As if that would help. "What can I do for you?"
"These reports are taking far too long to create using this. thing" she says as she nudges the computer over. "However Mother Miranda has expressed her interest in using this system of yours. You will teach me how to use this device properly so I can remain efficient."
Oh... Charlotte pushed down the urge to chuckle seeing such an imposing woman pout over a computer was. kinda funny. "I'll do my best. may I see your current process? I can make better suggestions that way."
"Very well" Dimitrescu replies as she takes a piece of paper from a stack next to her and stares down at the keyboard slowly hunt and pecking to press each letter and half the time sneering as she presses multiple keys at the same time.
Charlotte moves to cover her mouth while forcing a neutral expression. She forgot how much taller Lady Dimitrescu was, of course, she was having trouble with the keyboard. it was far too small for her to use. Charlotte nods. "I think I see the problem, I'm afraid that it's not something you're doing wrong as much as it was a short sight on my part" Charlotte admits, speaking a bit more eloquently to try and speak on the same level as lady dimitrescu to help her feel more comfortable. "I'll need to make an additional purchase next time I'm permitted to leave."
"Well, what am I supposed to do until then," Dimitrescu asks very clearly irritated.
"With your permission, I'll stop by once a week to type up your notes. it will move faster that way and you'll keep your efficiency. You can continue taking them as you have been on paper." Charlotte offers with a slight bow and curtsy since she reacted positively to that at the last meeting. In charlottes mind, it would continue to mean screw you though.
"Very well," Dimitrescu agrees curtly as she moves to stand. "sit," she says and gestures to the chair. It was a bit. large. for Charlotte but with a bit of effort she climbed into the chair and kneeled so she'd be at the proper height to work with the laptop sitting on the vanity.
Dimitrescu casually walks around the room and occasionally glances over as Charlotte quickly types away at the keyboard and rather effortlessly entered the data. This is what she was trained the more of her life to be able to do after all.
"How are you doing that," Dimitrescu asks with a hint of irritation and curiosity.
"Doing what?" Charlotte asks as she shifts to look at Dimitrescu while still typing up the last of the word she had been working on before.
"That, poking the buttons without looking at them," Dimitrescu clarifies while gesturing to the laptop.
"Ah. It's called touch typing. Where you learn to type without looking at the keys because you have the muscle memory to know where they are already."
"you will teach me how to do that," Dimitrescu states in more of a demand than a request. "I will not be outdone by my siblings."
oh boy. "Do you have access to a typewriter that you're comfortable using?" Charlotte asks curiously. If she remembered correctly those were set up with the same qwerty system, and if she was able to click the keys of that she'd be able to start practicing.
"I can have the servents bring one for me," Dimitrescu confirms and Charlotte nods.
"If you could do that I can have you practice while I finish up with the last of these reports." Charlotte offers and Dimitrescu gives a short nod.
"Very well," she says and calls for a maid to do exactly that. Charlotte picks up the remaining papers and the laptop so she could sit on the floor while Dimitrescu sat at the vanity once more. Now with the typewriter in front of her.
"When you're ready to start. Type the following sentence repeatedly without looking at the keys until you can do so without making a mistake. 'Queen Paulina's fat black cat sat on an old wicker mat.' " Charlotte instructs which causes Dimitrescu to make a face.
"and why would I type such a ridiculous sentence?" She asks offended by the notion. it was a childish exercise.
"Because it allows you to practice moving from each row of the keys and covers a large portion of the alphabet," Charlotte explains as she continues to type up the report, though she cautiously allows herself to glance at the woman to make sure she wasn't about to get up and attack her.
"Fine" she replies curtly and starts slowly pecking at the keys of the typewriter.
It took a good 3 hours but Charlotte managed to catch up on all the paperwork. honestly, it was a horrifyingly large stack of test results for one week. "do you usually conduct so many experiments in a week?" Charlotte cautiously asks as she starts organizing the papers and returning them to a neat stack.
"Gracious no. that was my full record for the last few years," Dimitrescu says which causes Charlotte's shoulders to drop. on one hand that's good, she's not going through so many people but on the other. WHY? no wonder half of that was missing data fields.
"That's quite ambitious of you to add so much to the database already" Charlotte says as she starts to gather that Dimitrescu was with little other way of saying it, a show-off and teacher's pet.
"Well, I would prefer to stay in Mother Miranda's good graces after you so violently slandered my family's name in front of her" Dimitrescu replies pointedly.
Right. "I see I'm sure she'd be more than appreciative of your forethought," Charlotte replies as she once more wanted to very quickly leave the building.
Dimitrescu rolls her eyes "You're free to leave, through the servant's door. You'll return again at the same time next week to work on further documentation."
"Yes ma'am," Charlotte replies as she gingerly closes the laptop to pick that up and place it and the stack of documents on the vanity. well, she tried to. Dimitrescu ended up having to take them from her and place them on the edge.
This trend went on for another few weeks and a couple of days. Each day she'd wake up eat go to the village and work on various improvements. As she became a more constant presence, villagers slowly became more and more accustomed to speaking with her. She even made a few closer acquaintances that she'd cautiously consider friends. Every Friday she'd go to the servents door of the castle and help Dimitrescu with her reports and practice her typing. To charlotte's great relief she very rarely had anything new as far as test subjects but she had plenty of historical documents for charlotte to enter.
Charlotte slowly pushes herself to get up for yet another day of the same routine and gently places a hand over her stomach. it didn't hurt as bad as usual but it still hurt. She was still alive though so here's hoping that meant it was getting better even if she still ended up puking every so often with a still ever-present note of blood.
She picked up her apple for the day and took her pill with the last bit of clean water she had before checking her phone. October 1st, 2019. It had been a little over a month since the last trip into town. She was starting to run out of Lumber too so she'd need to start bringing up the idea of leaving for another trip. For now, she opens the partition to find Moreau eating his breakfast for the day as well.
"Gmornin' Charlotte," he says with a toothy smile as he talks with his mouth full.
"Morning Moreau," she says and waits "Are you ready to head out for the day?" she asks and he nods. "Let's get going then," she says picking up the water filter and putting that under her arm so she could carry her water bottle in her free hand. While Moreau swam around for the morning she worked on getting a bit more clean water then put the supplies back in the tiny room. luckily after two and a half months of making that trip, she was starting to get a grasp on the route. by the time she got back, Moreau was done swimming and went on to do. whatever it was that he did while she was busy? honestly, she didn't know what he did in his free time.
She made her way into the village and smiled as she walked past a group of villagers. "Morning," she says giving a slight nod.
"Morning Charlotte," they greeted and continued on their way.
It was still odd to her, they were trapped here but they all still seemed. Happy? It didn't make sense. Heisenberg mentioned something about Benivento's ability to mess with people's minds so maybe that had something to do with it. She made her way to the abandoned house she was fixing up. Charlotte smiled at the progress. this one had been a bit of a nightmare but it was starting to come together. as well as a few replaced boards could fix that is. She had fixed up the walls and floors of 3 other places now and based on the gossip a few people were considering proposing now that there was an incentive to do so. Who could resist a free house? she just needed to get those darn roofing supplies and she could call the 4 houses complete. ish. there was more work that would be needed naturally but the villagers knew more about that than she did. It seems like they just needed someone to kick start the gears of 'caring enough' to actually take action.
by noon she had worked up a decent sweat and replaced another section of a wall even if she had to redo a few boards 2 or 3 times. each. she'd get the hang of this eventually.
"Ms. Chaaarlotte!" Called a tiny voice that bounced as they quickly hurried over. Charlotte smiled as she climbed down the ladder.
"Well if it isn't my favorite little helper!" she says with a laughing smile as she sees a small 10-year-old hurry over.
"Papa said I was asking too many questions while he was working and to go bother you instead," she says with a giggle before moving to hide her mouth "I did that on purpose" she admits causing charlotte to laugh but that stopped short as she got another jolt of pain.
"Well then we should get to work," Charlotte says in return but the girl shakes her head no.
"uh-uh. While I was hurrying over Lord Moreau stopped me and told me to tells ya that you need to go to church" the girl explains "I can take care of working by myself though"
"No, you need to go back to your dad, tell him I'm sorry but I have to attend an important meeting," She says and the girl frowns as she watches Charlotte put the tools well out of her reach.
"You're no fun," She says with an exaggerated frown.
Charlotte tried not to laugh to avoid the pain it caused "Yes I'm a big bad horrible meany and if you don't hurry and run off to do what I said I'm going to gobble you up," she said jokingly as she hold her hands up and makes her fingers ridged to look like claws before chasing the little girl who squeals and giggles before running off.
Charlotte chuckles at that before shaking her head and locking up the abandoned house so she could start making her way up to the usual meeting place of the lords.
Charlotte eventually walks in to find she was the last to arrive. great...
"Good of you to finally join us," Mother Miranda says with a hint of Irritation.
"My apologies," Charlotte says bowing her head slightly.
"To your place by Moreau," she says and waves off the apology. Charlotte nods before moving to stand to the right of the reservoir lord.
"Now then, I must say the database has proven fruitful so far. of those who managed to actually enter anything." She says before casting a glance at Donna and Angie cowers a bit.
"We're trying!" Angie says in defense of the two. "it's just so booooring."
"It's your job and you will do it" Mother Miranda counters sternly. "Alcina. Your records have been exemplary. Everyone, look to your elder sister as an example to strive for."
"Moreau, you've done surprisingly well also," Miranda says though she's looking at Charlotte with a knowing stare.
"T-thank you, Mother!" Moreau says more than happy to accept the praise, even if Charlotte had been helping him in a similar manner to how she'd was helping lady Dimitrescu.
They went around the room for various reports. Heisenberg gave a report on the status of the Lycans, Moreau talked about the reservoir though it felt like no one was listening, Donna was, well mostly skipped over as well aside from a few questions regarding the health of the flowers in her garden. weird. and Lady dimitrescu went over the status of her wine production while taking every opportunity to also mention that she's been working to catalog old data as well as new data.
"And that leaves us to the status of the village. Charlotte?" Miranda says as she looks to the woman out of the side of her eye.
"So far the villagers are doing well, the provision of medical supplies has assisted greatly so far with the improvement of living they're well into production of the fall harvest which will be set to harvest late next month. I'll be doing some research to-"
"I'm not interested in that matter what of the population problem," Miranda says cutting Charlotte off. well crap...
"I've heard plenty of rumors of proposals to come which would mean the beginnings of new families thanks to the increased effort on building restoration," Charlotte explains with a slight frown. "If I could have your permission to gather more supplies I can have 4 homes ready for new couples by the end of the month."
Miranda didn't seem particularly impressed but nods "very well. I'll grant as much but I expect much more significant contributions before another trip is approved."
"Heisenberg," She says looking to the man who lazily waves it off.
"Yeah yeah go with the kid and make sure she doesn't run for it,"
"I'll grant you 3 days again. your return will be expected by nightfall on the 3rd." Miranda says with a short nod.
"As you say Mother Miranda," Heisenberg says with a smile as he puts out his cigar on his hammer and stows what's left before standing up. "Well then, Scarlette?"
Ugh... this guy. "I'd be happy to be accompanied by Lord Heisenberg once more. His assistance was invaluable last time." Charlotte praises hoping that would be enough to set up the two as a travel pair for the foreseeable future.
"I see. the two of you are free to go then," Miranda says dismissing the two. Charlotte walks to the exit and heads down the stone stair pathway alongside him.
"Pack up your shit and meet at Luiza's" Heisenberg says as they walk. "ye got a plan right?"
"Naturally," Charlotte replies.
"Maybe they shoulda put you in a dress sooner, you're even speaking proper now," Heisenberg says with a smirk.
"very funny," she says with a tired bored tone. she was too out of it to be dealing with it. usually, she had time to sit down and let the nausea spells pass but she's been standing since this morning...
"...Fuckin Killjoy," He says under his breath as he walks ahead. it wasn't fun to mess with her if she didn't get mad.
True to his request Charlotte went to the Mine to get her backpack that had her usual traveling supplies then back to the village to meet him at Luiza's house. to find he was already in the rustbucket with his hammer and an olive drab bag in the bed of the truck. Charlotte made sure she had her phone in the pocket of her pinafore along with her last battery pack and charging cable before putting her bag in the back as well. She winces as she gets into the car and finally sits down. she didn't think she'd ever find the seats of this dumb thing comfortable but it was the first padded seat she sat in for the last month.
"Travel safely Lord Heisenberg, Charlotte. We'll pray for your swift return once more" Luiza says with a short bow before the two leave again.
once more Heisenberg drives the two down the dirt roads and remains silent until the two are out of the village limits. "So, are you going to tell me the plan or should I turn back around and drop your ass at the reservoir?" he asks causing her to roll her eyes.
"It's not a great plan but when you get to the road take a left this time instead of a right. I found a scrapyard." She replies ignoring the threat.
"no shit?" he asks a bit surprised. she was acting weird though. Lethargic almost?
"I was checking my email once a week and used some of the extra time to look around. with this thing, it's going to take us until dark to get there." Charlotte explains. "If we're going to do this we're going to have to knock out the cameras and just take it. we can't afford to lose the time by waiting until morning."
"Okay, why not just go to a dealership and nabe one of them? dealerships still exist yeah?" Heisenberg points out in return.
"better documented, higher security, and more likely to take action to try and get back the missing vehicle," Charlotte replies as she shifts to get more comfortable in her seat while poking at the phone to set up the GPS. "After we get the truck though we'll head back here, leave the rust bucket in the woods, and head to the same motel as last time in the new truck assuming it can get to 30 miles an hour easily, we'll be there by midnight and we'll have a full day for shopping. We'll be able to bring back the same amount of supplies as last time and Miranda will be none the wiser. on the way back we move the supplies to the rust bucket and leave the pilfered truck in the woods. she won't know about it and we'll have an extended range of travel going forward."
Heisenberg smiles as he listens to the plan. "You really did think this over," he says amused.
"Hmm, kinda there's only one issue." She says which causes him to raise an eyebrow.
"Two cars means both of us to need to drive. there's only 1 GPS and I can't drive a stick" She says with a shrug.
"What do you mean you can't drive a stick?" He says with annoyed disbelief.
"Can't drive a stick, never learned. Most cars are automatic these days" Charlotte explains which causes Heisenberg to grumble under his breath.
"So whatever we do get it will probably be automatic. If we want to try and speed up traveling we can try and attach the rust bucket to the back of whatever we get and tow it."
"We're doing that," Heisenberg says with a tired sigh. "should have lead with that"
Sure enough, 7 hours later the sun was down and it was 8 pm.
"Pull over here," Charlotte says gesturing to a field.
"You're getting too fuckin comfortable telling me what to do," Heisenberg says irritated.
she gives a tired sigh. "if we want to stay low and avoid being found we need to park away from the location." luckily she watched enough cop shows in her day. "we can walk from here." she explains Heisenberg waits a few minutes out of spite but does eventually pull over at a different, slightly closer location. Charlotte left her phone in the truck before walking with him along the road. the two walk until they were vaguely in sight of the scrap yard.
"How far can you reach with that magnet stuff?" Charlotte asks curiously.
"Far enough. Why?" Heisenberg asks.
"General rule of thumb is if you can see them, they can see you," Charlotte explains before gesturing to the building. "If you would be so kind to fry the systems," she says and he frowns before taking out the cigar butt from before and relights it as he sends out an electromagnetic pulse which causes Charlotte's hair to start to frizz up and stand on end from the static as lights around the building went dark. she maybe didn't think that all the way through. She couldn't see a thing aside from what the moonlight illuminated.
"Stay here, I'll be back to pick you up," Heisenberg says as he moved to head across the street.
"Are you sure?" Charlotte asks a bit surprised and Heisenberg stops to look back at her.
"Are you going to tell me how to fix the truck too?" he asks irritated
"Nope, I'll leave that to you I don't know the first thing about car repairs," she says as she backs up to show she was backing off.
"That's what I thought," He says before heading over and bending the fence out of his way to head inside. It takes a good few hours but eventually, a truck with a single headlight drives out and the bed of the truck was filled with various scraps.
"Get in," he says though he was smiling from ear to ear. Charlotte complies and gets into the truck. it would need a bit of work but it was in pretty decent condition, that or he fixed it up that well. "That place is a gold mine." he says still smiling. "we're coming back here. regularly," he says as more of a statement than a request.
"Fine" Charlotte agrees as she once more moves to get comfortable. she still wasn't arguing with him. what was wrong with her... he had fully expected a lecture on why they couldn't hit the same target twice. "We should head back to the rust bucket, we're behind schedule," Charlotte says and Heisenberg nods before driving the very full truck down the road. he stops by the rust bucket and they move their gear to the back seats of the truck so they wouldn't have to worry about it falling out while they drove.
modern technology is a beautiful thing. the drive that took them 7 hours before took them roughly 1 hour and 50 minutes to finish on the way back thanks to cruising at a good 45 miles an hour even while loaded down. they dropped off the rust bucket and the bed full of scraps that included multiple plane parts before making their way to the Motel from before. The trip that took them 4 hours last time took an hour and some change. it was 1 in the morning by the time they made it to the room and Heisenberg rather quickly dropped his bag before flopping onto the bed. The faster truck would afford them the option to sleep in a bit which they both appreciated. it had been a long night.
"I'm going to shower," Charlotte says as she grabs a clean set of modern clothes from her bookbag.
"Good for you," Heisenberg replies and waits for a reply. She rolled her eyes and just goes into the bathroom to shower. What in the actual hell?
Charlotte washed up then stayed in the show to relax in the comforting steam of the warm water for a while, failing to consider that the heat would get to her. Once more nausea started setting in. Nope. Nopenopenope. She turned off the water as she started to panic and quickly dry off so she could get dress. Keep it down. keep it down, keep it down he cant find o- She managed to get dressed but she hurried to the toilet and lost what lunch she had since they skipped dinner.
Heisenberg looked over to the door as the water stopped and quick shuffling could be heard and gagging after. He pushed himself to get up and looked to the door with annoyed curiosity. before going over to it. "Charlotte. open the door."
"No" she replied, she had planned to say more but that caught off by more gagging, blood and bile.
Shift. Click. When was she going to learn that locks are made of metal? The door swung open and she found Heisenberg glaring at her. It takes him a second to notice the blood and stomach acid before looking at her with a cranky expression.
"You're sick?" he says more then asks as she slowly stumbles back a few steps.
"Stay away from me," she says terrified. he was going to cut her open. she was gonna get killed. they were going to find out she was weak.
"Why the Shit didn't you say anything sooner? How long has that been going on?" Heisenberg says with a sneer.
Fight or flight started kicking in. it made her feel worse but she wasn't one to go down without a fight. "Stay the fuck away from me you're not cutting me open."
"You are the stupidest clever bitch I've ever met. For the love of all that is holy," He pinches the brow of his nose as he walks over to hoist her over his shoulder. Having his shoulder digging into her gut did not feel good in the slight causing her to cover her mouth with one hand while kicking her legs to try and get away and lands a solid hit to the gut before he not so gently unloads her onto the bed.
"Sit," he growls but Charlotte attempts to get up. he stops her and pushes her back. "I SAID SIT," He barked. this time Charlotte stayed on the bed but scooted back and away from him with a fearful expression. he shakes his head and used his magnetic powers to bring the trashcan of the room over to the side of the bed she was sitting on. "Stay put and rest for a fucking second you god damn idiot," he says before leaving the room to eventually return with a bottle of water and puts that on the nightstand between the two beds.
"How long have you been puking blood dumbass," Heisenberg asks as evenness slowly returned to his tone though his annoyance was still evident.
Charlotte looked at the water and elected to leave it be while hesitantly contemplating answering him. "a month," she eventually says telling the truth.
"a fucking month what the shit is wrong with you?" He says stunned. She really was an idiot.
"I'm stuck in a crazy psycho murder necromancer village run by insane people with superpowers who experiments on sick people, why on earth would I admit to being sick?" she says back extremely annoyed confusion. On one hand yey he didn't get a tarp to start carving her up but. She looks at the water bottle. Was he trying to be nice to her? It was a weird way of showing it since he was cursing her out like that.
"Yeah, and I need you alive to get out here for supplies. You have the talking phone GPS doohickey and you know how things work out here." he begrudgingly admits "So what's wrong and how do you fix it."
"I think it's a bleeding ulcer. it's not getting worse but it's not getting better... Fruits and vegetables seem to be helping but I need some sort of stomach acid-blocking medicine." she explains hesitantly.
"You should have just went to Duke he probably would have had something like that" Heisenberg says as some level of frustration returned.
"Who?" she asks confused. she hadn't met anyone by that name yet.
"Duke" He repeats and Charlotte shrugs. "The Fish Freak didn't tell you about Duke? Of course, he didn't why would he," Heisenberg gives a tired sigh."He's the main merchant of the area, anything we don't have local he gets just within reason of what Miranda allows."
"That would have been nice to know" she admits as she slowly starts to come down from the unwanted adrenaline rush.
"Yeah well. now you know." He says "We'll pick up whatever it is you need along with more supplies for the army and when we get back I'll show you where to find him." Charlotte nods as Heisenberg shifts to kick his boots off and take off his coat, hat, and glasses to settle in. "Now drink some water before your mouth rots out and get some sleep. if you don't fix yourself up then I will end up turning you into a god damn soldat"
She hesitantly reaches over for the water bottle it looked safe enough. With that she cracked the seal to open it and took a swig before closing it again and settling it. once she was laying down a soft Click could be heard as the lights turned themself off.
So I feel like I should mention this as well, if you're ever sick to the point of finding blood in your puke please don't be a Charlotte and just google it to treat it yourself. Go to a doctor and get some help. Charlotte is in a very extreme situation where she doesn't have a choice. X'D with that disclaimer out of the way I hope you guys enjoyed the chapter! it was a lot of fun to write lol there's so much I want to include X'DD as much as this is a Heisenburg/ OC story I feel like it's still important to develop and show her connection with the other characters around her to make a more fleshed out world. things will get more Heisenburg focused as we go but for now, I feel like it's important to develop what her new daily routine looks like so I can, later on, say "she went about her day as usual" and everyone has an idea of what 'usual' means. also could not resist the urge to get in an 'I SAID SIT' moment forgive me X'D

Black Moon's Daughter - I am not joking. starvation has some pretty serious consequences and one of them is an acid imbalance in the gut. that mixed with a bacterial infection can result in stomach ulcers and if the acid stays out of wack, it can result in bleeding ulcers. Bleeding ulcers are not fun. In Charlotte's situation, it's a very minor case of internal bleeding but if she's not careful it can get worse. luckily they're not super difficult to treat and surgery is only really required in extreme cases. [to the best of my knowledge with 15 minutes of google research to find a consequence for her starvation] a small streak in the puke would indicate a minor erosion of the stomach lining.
ScaryBerry - Amg thank you for letting me know about that. I don't think that it's nitpicking at all. I would have never noticed lmao. So a bit of a fun FanNatic Fact. I am super self-conscious about writing to the point that I don't save this to my computer at all. I do all of my writing in the fanfic website document manager. With that, the document manager likes to delete stuff if you have two words sandwiching a period. it kinda assumes it's a URL and deletes it. so I had Ms. Wiltse but forgot a space and it Zapped the name away X'DD also just for you X'D Lady D is absolutely a hunt and pecker. went ahead and made that canon in the story because I loved that idea XDD
