Song Suggestion: Walk Me Home by P!nk
Disclaimer: This should be a surprise to no one at this point but, just in case. I own nothing. not one thing. Resident Evil belongs to Capcom, this is fan fiction please don't sue K thanks.
"Charlotte, what do you have to report regarding the village?" Miranda asks as the meeting of the lords started coming to a close.
"I'll have a 5th home ready for occupancy by the first of December. It should only be two more days." Charlotte says though she knew that was not what Miranda was after... "Regarding the movement for population advancements. it has been. Slow." she admits with a frown, this was the only thing keeping her from death. With that she gave another tiny nugget to try and buy herself some time. "However I believe I have a solution."
"Speak freely child," Miranda replies in a bored tone. The loss of her name said what she already knew. She was losing grace in Miranda's eyes.
"While I can not force the actions of the villagers. They look to you for guidance and light. A proclamation from you could greatly bolster the efforts." Charlotte states while closing her eyes in fake reverence to mask her disgust. "gather the people, and tell them that you received a vision of prosperity for the future that would be brought in by the new generation. That those who do act to realize this prosperity will be blessed for their actions." What she was suggesting was manipulation. Plain and simple. She knew that well enough but she needed some way to kick start this or she wouldn't have any news to report and with that, she'd be slowly cutting away at the lifeline that was keeping her safe. "Make the homes I've fixed an official incentive. I can fix them all I want to make them available. but your word is law."
"I see," Miranda says and nods. "A reasonable suggestion I expect that you're monitoring the residents still?"
"Yes Mother Miranda. The reports are all up to date and I've added a column for tracking proposed unions and future births to expect."
"Good." She says with a nod. "With that, our meeting is dismissed."
The meeting ended just as Charlotte expected, getting any further favor from Miranda would take some effort. She didn't even bother asking at this point for permission to leave. pestering never did anyone any good. Especially so when working with a crazed cult-leading band of lunatics that cut people up to try and perform necromantic rituals. Instead, for the last month, she had continued to focus her efforts in the village on building trust with the villagers and repairing what she could between meeting with the lords both in their own domains and at the stronghold.
.
The next day, her usual schedule continued but with the addition of a morning call from Heisenberg telling her to visit the factory once more that afternoon to help him catch up on what he missed over the last 100 years. This would be her, third visit now as it was nearing the end of November. As she looked around from her place on the roof of her latest project she noted that any leaves that remained had fallen from the trees.
Good lord, she'd been here for almost 4 months now. Charlotte gave a quiet sigh at that thought as she nailed down another shingle on the roof. her fingers were wrapped with various bandages from different injuries she sustained from working on her repair projects. She was slowly getting more and more accustomed to the work but she still wasn't great at it and would bust her thumb with a hammer or knick a finger with a blade on occasions.
"Miss Charlotte!" called a familiar little voice as the Luthier's daughter hurried over to the latest construction site.
"Careful now Avey, let me come down to you," Charlotte says as she cautiously scoots down the roof over to the ladder to climb down. Once she was back on the ground the girl smiles widely
"Can I have another one of those tiny treats?" Avey asks with a smile.
"You're going to rot your teeth out," Charlotte says with a chuckle but digs out a fun-size candy from her pinafore pocket That she had specifically packed away for the child. "Here, just make sure you give me back the wrapper okay?" she says with a chuckle before going to get some more supplies to take onto the roof.
"Yey!" she cheered and accepted the tiny treat. It took her a bit to work with the wrapper since she wasn't completely used to them. "Have you seen my Madalina doll?" She asks with a slight frown before handing the wrapper back and eating the candy.
"I can't say I have. Where did you see it last?" Charlotte asks, accepting the wrapper before she walks back over to the ladder. Once there she unties a rope from the bottom rung allowing a basket to lower down from the top once it was on the ground she put the supplies into the basket and starts pulling on the rope to host the supplies up to the top of the ladder.
"I don't remember..." she says before kicking a rock. "Are you gonna be working on the roof all day again?" she asks while pouting.
"I'm afraid so. I need to get these roofs patched up before winter hits," Charlotte replies before tying down the rope again for her makeshift pulley system.
"But that's boring," Avey Complains with a frown. "Can I at least send supplies up the ladder for you?" she asks with a sigh.
That was maybe a bit more dangerous than Charlotte was comfortable with. the higher up the ladder those supplies got, the worse off she'd be if she lost her grip on the rope. Before she could say much else a hunched-over figure carrying a staff decorated in skulls hobbled over to join them.
dear lord please just let me work on this roof. Charlotte thought but smiled all the same. "Afternoon ma'am. Is there something I can do for you?"
"I just thought I'd drop off some Garlic for you. make sure you put these around where you're staying for the night to keep the strigoi away" the woman says with a laugh while holding out a string of garlic cloves.
"Pardon?" Charlotte asks with a confused and concerned expression as Avey moves to hide behind her skirt to stay away from the scary old woman.
"The strigoi! horrid things. The devilish creatures are more active this time of year. Tomorrow night is when they're at their worst to be sure," the woman warns while continuing to offer the garlic cloves. As charlotte listens to the woman speak she puts a hand on Avey's shoulder to comfort the clinging child.
"Oh," Charlotte replies with a slight frown. "Avey, why don't you run over and ask duke how much paint costs for me?" Charlotte requests figuring that would keep the girl busy and away from the woman who was scaring her.
"Okay," she says quickly before running off to do that.
"What a sweet little girl," the old woman cooed before looking to Charlotte and offering the garlic a third time. "Please do take these though, it's a holiday tradition of sorts at the end of the harvest. all the same, it's better safe than sorry."
Charlotte accepts the offered garlic this time and nods "Right, I'll make sure to do that." Crazy old bat...
The woman smiles and nods "May Mother Miranda bless your efforts."
"Same to you," Charlotte replies while internally gagging on the words. She hated this but it kept her alive. Charlotte looked at the cloves with a slight frown but ultimately left to walk around to the different homes she repaired to put the garlic around the houses. The woman was crazy, but if it was a tradition for the villagers, participating would help them see her as one of them. By the time she got back to the house she was working on, she found Avey looking around for her again.
"There you are!" Avey says with a smile. "I thought the crazy lady got you."
Charlotte laughs at that "No not this time. I'm a pretty tricky one to catch." she says with a smile. "So what did Duke say about the paint?"
Avey frowns a bit and rubs the back of her head "He says that you should talk to him instead and that he prefers to make deals face to face."
Charlotte pressed her lips together but nods. He was a bit of a pain sometimes, but at least it gave Avey something else to do. "Alright well, why don't you go look for your doll, I'm going to be busy with the roof for the rest of the afternoon."
"Fine," She says with a pout, "Oh, father asked me to tell you to stop by after you finish workin'," Avey adds before hurrying on her way to look for her doll.
Huh... "I wonder what the luthier wants..." Charlotte says with a confused expression but ultimately gets back to work for a bit longer. The sun was starting to set earlier and earlier giving Charlotte less time each day to work. Winter was approaching and quickly. She frowned at this thought. Luckily she only had one more roof left to fix. with the additional boards that would make for a total of 6 spruced-up abandoned houses... it still didn't sit right with her. something about this was weird. why were there so many abandoned homes and why was no one questioning it... The thought lingered in her mind. she'd bring some paper with her tomorrow and make a map of the village. write down everyone's name on the houses to keep track of who was where and which houses she needed to work on. maybe that would help her feel a bit better and less disoriented.
The sun was about an hour away from setting when she decided to climb back down the ladder one last time. she quickly checked her phone. 4:38pm. The sun really was setting sooner... oh well. "Let's see what the Luthier wanted," Charlotte says with a slight frown. Hopefully, it was a quick conversation, she still needed to get to the factory after this. The Three lords she did speak with were starting to eat up more and more of her time. She only got a few hours of work on the house today since she had typing lessons with Lady Demitrescu in the morning.
A quiet tired sigh passed her lips as she walked up the stairs for the Luthier's house to knock on the door.
"Papa, Miss Charlotte is here," says a familiar tiny voice from the other side of the door. Footsteps followed before the door opened to show the fatherly figure who appeared to be in his late 30's to early 40's.
"Evening Charlotte," the man says with a slight smile. "Good to see you. I have something for you," he says as he heads back into the home and motions for her to follow.
"Oh?" she asks confused as she follows along as requested.
"Yeah, the gardener asked me to bring it into town for you," He admits as he walks around to pick up a decent-sized box that was tied shut with twine. "Said he found it with your name on the package and figured it was yours."
Well, that was strange. "Really? Does the village usually get mail?" Charlotte asks confused as she accepted the box.
"We'll write letters to each other on occasion when we're having trouble catching someone at home but other than that, not usually," The luthier admits which only made Charlotte more curious.
"Huh, that's strange. Thanks for bringing it all this way," Charlotte replies as she accepted the box. She'd have to see what that's about later.
"Not a problem." He replies with a short chuckle. "Are you going to be attending the harvest festivities tomorrow?"
"I hadn't heard about them," Charlotte admits.
"No, suppose you wouldn't have with how busy you usually are," he replies while rubbing at the back of his neck a bit. "The villagers will be meeting at the storage barn after sundown to celebrate the harvest. If you have the time you should attend, it would be a good way to get to know everyone a bit better. Mother Miranda surely knows how hard you work as it is. one night of rest wouldn't be so offensive to her."
Charlotte laughs a bit at that "I'll keep that in mind. The lords have been running me ragged lately." She admits shaking her head.
"The villagers that I know who serve one tend to be tired, I can't imagine having to jump around between the four." The luthier replies as his smile held some sympathy.
"It's not so bad once you get used to it but it's certainly a handful," Charlotte says. "I'll do my best to attend though. Thanks for letting me know about it. I should probably head out. I don't want to keep Lord Heisenberg waiting."
"You definitely don't want to do that," He replies with an adamant nod. "See you around,"
"See you later," Charlotte replies and leaves with the box under her arm. while she was curious about the content she really didn't have the time. She adjusted her route a bit. if she went to the reservoir and used her little shortcut she should be able to leave the box by the entryway of the mines then get to the factory in time. She picked up the pace to try and make the trip a bit faster.
Once she made it to the mines she put down the twine-tied cardboard and quickly turned back around to make her way to the factory.
"Well look who managed to make it here on time," says the loudspeaker before a buzzer announced that the gate was opening.
"You know it would be easier to be on time if we had a scheduled meeting time so I could plan better," Charlotte points out as she walks up to the factory. The gate closes behind her and the large barn doors slide open next showing Heisenberg waiting impatiently in the garage-like factory.
"Not happening, a schedule makes it easier for anyone to track what we're up to and plan to eves drop," Heisenberg says with a frown but motions for her to follow him back to the usual scrap heap room where his computer was busily typing on its own.
"How is the army coming along by the way?" Charlotte asks as she waits for Heisenberg to take a seat.
"Eh," he waves charlotte off as he moves to take out a cigar and sit's down. "Had to start over," he says as he puts the cigar in his mouth and it lights itself.
"What do you mean start over?" Charlotte asks as her shoulders drop.
"Wasn't quite right so I scrapped it," he says before shifting to get comfortable in his chair and leans back. Charlotte could feel her eye start to twitch as she gave a short annoyed chuckle. How was he being so casual about this? Heisenberg felt a sudden jolt as he found himself now face to face with Charlotte who had walked over put her foot on the chair and forced it down to make him look at her.
"I have repaired 4 houses over the last 3 months and I am just about to finish a 5th by the end of tomorrow... and you're telling me with 10 chainsaws, dozens of parts, a plethora of power tools, 7 VR headsets, and an entire factory at your disposal, you have nothing to show for it?" She asks voicing her disbelief.
The accusation caused the metal lord to sneer. "Whoop-de fucking-do. Did you want a gold star?" he asks as he stares her down "It's an army it's not going to be done overnight."
She pinches the bridge of her nose. if you want anything done right you have to do it yourself. "Yeah, and it's never going to be done if you keep scrapping any progress you make."
Cocky ass bitch. "Just focus on making Miranda happy and getting me more parts and we'll have an army," Heisenberg says as he breaths out a cloud of cigar smoke.
"We're not doing multiple rounds of this self-destructive perfectionist bullshit or we're never getting out of here. You have a plan this time right?" Charlotte says with a frown. Like hell, she was buying him more parts for them to go to waste again.
Heisenberg continues to stare at her before using his control of metal to quickly force the chair to tilt back again and throw Charlotte off balance causing her to land on her rear. "Fuck off," He says as he goes back to ignoring her.
He was such a freaking child good gosh. She really was better of just working alone. Charlotte pushes herself to get up before walking back over to the table and remains silent.
"Better," he says as he sits properly once more. "Where did we leave off?"
She rolls her eyes before digging her phone out. "1983."
"Right," he waves his hand a bit to motion for her to continue while he relaxed.
They made it through another six or seven years. As usual, the process took longer than it should have as the immortal would have several questions for any sentence that charlotte would utter. "1989..." Charlotte paused. "Heisenberg?"
"Hm." He replies lazily.
"What are you hoping to do when this is done?" Charlotte asks with some level of curiosity. she could go over history all she wanted but that would really only go so far...
"Gonna need you to elaborate." He replies while raising an eyebrow behind his glasses and hat.
"What do you want to do once your free?" Charlotte rephrases her question.
"Haven't really thought that far ahead," he says as he snuffs out the last of the cigar on the metal leg of the chair.
She wasn't really sure she believed that. the guy who has been stuck here for one hundred years didn't know why he wanted to get away... "You don't dream about it at all?"
"Sure I do. Dreaming of defeating that bitch is vivid as anything," Heisenberg says with a smirk.
"What do you do in the dreams then," Charlotte says figuring maybe that would help.
"... Donno. Usually I wake up before then," He says with a shrug. "Maybe travel for a bit then come back here and tinker and do whatever I want..." he says with a bit of a smile as he allows himself to think about it before a thought catches his attention. "You're an American. Have you ever been to New York?"
Charlotte laughs "I'm from New York."
"You don't say? That explains a bit." He admits before shaking his head. "Does Broadway still do shows?"
"Yeah, broadway still does shows," Charlotte replies amused as an idea comes to mind. "Okay. I think we're going to make a slight change to your lessons." Charlotte says with a short chuckle. "We are going to get you travel-ready. Enough that you'd be able to visit New York if you want and if you do end up visiting. I'll find a way to get tickets for a Broadway show." she offered, figuring that would give him something to work towards.
"Tickets?" Heisenberg asks amused.
"Fine Ticket, you grump. You can go by yourself," Charlotte says and shakes her head. "Let's start off with English, you'll need to know the basics so you can find your way around."
It wasn't too difficult figuring out where to start when it came to teaching him that. She just thought back to elementary school and went from there. First thing was first the alphabet. He picked things up quickly so she didn't expect that to take him too long. She spent another hour going over that before checking her phone.
Friday, November 29th, 7:47 pm.
"Okay so just practice writing those a few dozen times until the next time you have me stop by," Charlotte says "I need to get back it's already dark," She points out. she definitely was not taking the shortcut this time. one wrong step in the dark and she'd be plummeting into the reservoir. Luckily she already sent her report in for work. here's hoping they bought it.
"I'll walk you back then," He says as he gets up and magnetically pulls his hammer to his hand so he could rest it over his shoulders. "Shouldn't be walking around on your own this time of year."
Charlotte's amusement continued. "What are the strigoi going to get me?"
"Strigoi, Lycans. whatever you want to call them. they get antsy this time of year. little extra hungry," he says as he walks ahead of her. "Invested way too much time in your sorry ass for you to get lost in the woods and eaten."
oh gosh... "So wait the Lycans are."
"Basically the same thing yeah," Heisenberg replies while continuing to lead the way. "Scared?" he asks with a smirk.
"I put up with you on a regular basis," She replies "They'll have to try a bit harder."
He rolls his eyes a bit at that but leads the way back to the Reservoir. As much as she tried to hide it she'd occasionally jolt upon seeing the shadow of a decapitated goat head in the trees or the sound of a snarling growl from the edge of the forest. It was kind of nice to have someone to walk with.
Upon making it back she noticed Moreau pacing around at the entryway where her mystery box was still waiting for her. She was admittedly later than usual.
"There you go Fish freak. I returned your toy safe and sound. Don't say I never do anything for you," Heisenberg says as Charlotte walks over and picks up the box.
"Thank you brother," Moreau replies with a nod but Charlotte frowns upon hearing the continued insult of being an inanimate object.
"Have a good night," Charlotte replies. She could at least be courteous since he did walk her here.
Heisenberg tips his hat slightly before heading on his way.
"You're okay?" Moreau asks with a not of concern after Heisenberg left.
"Yeah I'm fine," she replies with a nod "let's get inside before we catch a cold."
"Okay," Moreau replies and walks with Charlotte back to the small narrow room they share. Once they made it back Charlotte walked over to her section of the room and put down the box. she'd been itching to open it and figure out what it was the moment it was offered to her but at the same time it, the fact that she didn't know what was in it made her reluctant to open the box in front of anyone. she chuckled at that thought before untying the twine to find a note resting on thin tissue paper. she picked up the note to read it.
I'm sorry - Donna
I'm not - Angie
Charlotte frowns slightly at the note and gives a tired sigh before moving the tissue paper out of the way to find a familiar red fabric had been hiding under it. the same thick red fabric with a floral pattern woven into it that she brought for the two before. She gently took out a winter coat made of the warm red fabric that had a black satin inner lining and a simple winter set of clothes that appeared to be an apology from Donna for trying to get her to run off a cliff. Wow, that sentence really should sound more insane than it was to her. All the same, she looked over to the pile of cloth in the corner. She had been attempting to make her own clothes. Elena had been very patient in teaching her but as the bandaids on the tips of her thumb, index, and middle finger of her non-dominant hand would attest. She was not really picking that skill up. at all.
They were pretty, and it would solve the issue of clothes for the winter in part. it would at least buy her enough time to get back into town to find an atm Withdraw some lei and buy something from duke that suited village living. She carefully put the clothes back in the box and closed it before moving the box to the side so it was out of the way. Looks like she had a dresser now. a cardboard box. what an addition. Once it got too cold to do work in the village she'd have to see if she can talk Moreau into letter her make a few repairs around the mines.
With that thought, she went ahead and wrapped up her day. Making a bit of Ramen over the wood fire stove enjoying that as she watched a movie with Moreau then settling in for the night in her sleeping bag to get some rest.
The next day came and went quickly. She tried to finish the roof as quickly as possible. It took until around 2 pm but it was enough time for her to hurry back to the reservoir and into one of the abandoned shacks along the lake with what was left of her soap, shampoo and her towel. she'd taken to using the abandoned broken floor building as a sort of bathhouse as it gave her some privacy and a large body of water to bathe in. She wasn't sure what she was going to do once the water froze over but for now, she accepted the luxury of an icy cold bath. Once dried off and dressed Charlotte hurried back to the unoccupied narrow room of the mines and started the wood fire stove to warm the area so she would dry off more properly before changing from her thinner, admittedly warn-out summer dress into the new winter clothes. She cautiously looked over to the corset and thought on it for a moment before leaving it be. She might prefer a corset compared to driving the rust bucket but that didn't really mean she was ready to volunteer to wear that thing again. She did end up fussing with her hair a bit more than usual and used a few of the techniques that Elena had taught her.
Having changed into her new dress and coat she made her way back into the village and to the storage barn as the sun about to set. Inside the area had been cleared and cleaned. tables were set up along the sides filled with food and piles of plates donated by the villagers for everyone to use and enjoy. a group of 5 sat in the corner playing various instruments so the gathering would have music while people happily ate, talked, and danced.
Charlotte smiled a bit at the sight. If it weren't for the circumstances she'd say it was actually a welcomed and peaceful event but the metaphorical dagger hanging over her head made it feel more difficult to relax. That was only compounded as, to her surprised in walked Miranda, Heisenberg, Lady Dimitrescu, and Donna. Angie hurried over to dance around charlotte wearing a matching outfit. Where was Salvatore?
"We're like twins, twins~ but I'm the beau~te~ful one," Angie says and cackles before hurrying over to rejoin Donna.
What in the hell was going on... The lords never went into the village like this... It seemed she wasn't the only one thinking this as the music stopped and the villagers began to chatter. The only one that seemed to be smiling was the old hag as she happily munched on a slice of cake in the far corner of the barn.
"My people!" Miranda says as she unfurls her wings to get everyone's attention, not that she needed to she already had it by simply walking into the room. "I come to you this day of celebration with most glorious news!" she dramatically announces which causes the chattering to renew while Charlotte's heart sank. "I have received a vision most splendid. One of prosperity for the future that would be brought in by the new generation." Hearing her own words used to manipulate these people, it felt like a knife in her gut. "Those who act to realize this prosperity and aid in ushering in this new generation will be blessed for their actions." Mother Miranda continued using the words charlotte gave her and Charlotte gave a quiet sigh knowing her role in creating a new generation of test subjects to be slaughtered. She shook her head. She couldn't think like that, she'd get everyone out she could do this...
"To those that are looking to start their new life as a couple, homes have been furnished to allow these unions to begin as soon as possible," Miranda says and the people applauded. "May the festivities commence." She says as seats were furnished for Miranda and the 3 lords. to watch from the head of the spacious building.
further gossiping began as the music returned. it didn't take long for a happy squeal and cheering to be heard. one proposal already... Miranda would be thrilled. judging by her smile she was happy with the rather instantaneous results.
"Miss Charlotte?"
"Hm?" She turned to try and find who was looking for her to find Avey and her father.
"Well, I'll be. Aren't you dolled up." the Luthier says with a short laugh as Avey nudged the man forward a bit.
Oh god... she was relatively young, single, in a 'position of power', had an 'open womb' and Miranda just declared open season... HAHAHAHA. Fuck. She forced a smile all the same. "It's my first time attending something like this, I suppose I'm a bit overdressed."
"Not at all," He says still smiling. "I'm a bit rusty but, would you care to dance?" he asks as Avey nods and the tiny parent trap mastermind ran off.
Charlotte hesitantly accepts the offered hand and walks into the center area where the villagers were happily dancing to the upbeat music provided by the 5 musical villagers. Charlotte and the Luthier eventually joined in. Again this would be fun if this wasn't simultaneously terrifying. She needed to think of a plan and quickly. how to get out of this and make it so people would hesitate to approach her in any way after that announcement... She continued to think and puzzle over this as they danced around the room and followed the motions of the other in the circle. Charlotte curtsied as the Luthier gave a slight bow when the song ended. it didn't take long for another villager to approach her. she was in a bright red coat after all and stood out like a sore thumb. her panicking continued as she'd glance around looking for anything to give her an idea. after 4 or 5 dances her panicking slowly reduced and her mind began to properly sort through options and solutions.
The lords. No one would dare risk upsetting a lord.
as her latest dance stopped she decided to put that plan into motion. Quickly, find him quickly. Where was Moreau? Charlotte walked away making sure to keep her pace casual to avoid seeming alarmed. before long she did find Moreau peaking into the barn from the large double doors. a soft smile crossed her face. He looked curious but scared. He'd come to be the closest thing to a friend that she had in this place. Surely he wouldn't mind one quick dance. That's all it would take to get everyone else to leave her alone she was sure of it.
"Salvatore?" Charlotte asks as she walks over to the hunched-over figure. "What are you doing over here, shouldn't you be with your brother and sisters?"
"There's. a lot of people in there... What if I get sick..." Moreau asks nervously in return.
"You're a lord, all the same, I doubt anyone would pay it much attention." Charlotte says and offers a hand "come on let's dance." she says with a smile.
Moreau hesitates a bit but eventually reaches out and accepts the offered hand. His burdened spin meant he couldn't really dance like the others but Charlotte did her best to accommodate so they could keep up with the others in the circle. While he was initially nervous he eventually began to smile and occasionally laugh through the phlegm perpetually stuck in his throat.
'Is that Lord Moreau?' 'This truly is a rare occasion,' 'A Lord dancing with the villagers?' 'I never thought I'd see the day' 'Agreed! This must be a good omen' 'It must be,'
'*'*'*'*'
Heisenberg sat with the others feeling rather bored. Watching other people dance around and have fun unaware of the sheep that they were. It was disgusting. However, a bright red coat moving across the room caught his attention causing him to smile slightly. He knew her tells well enough. she was panicking. It only took him a few seconds to realize why.
Dug your own grave there didn't you, He thinks as he watches his newfound entertainment. Come on clever bitch, you made the hole. Find a way out. He continues to watch Charlotte panic as she danced around the room with various men from the village. Now this was funny. Maybe not as entertaining as one of his deathtraps but it was certainly better than nothing. His smile grew to a knowing smirk as he watched her expression shift from panic to quiet calculation. He'd seen that expression enough times to recognize it even if the villagers didn't.
He gave a short disapproving huff of a laugh as he watched her walk away. Giving up so easily? That's borin- hello. he raised an eyebrow as she walked back to dance with Moreau. She brought out a bigger fish. His smile returned as his entertainment did. This just got interesting.
"What on earth is she doing," Miranda asks disapprovingly.
"If I had to guess? Humanizing us," Heisenberg offers to stay Miranda's anger as he takes out a cigar and lights it. "Easier to get people to like you if they think you're just like them," he adds before enjoying the smoke it produced. "It's what she's been doing this whole time damn by living with them. being one of them while being connected to us. It's making us more accessible." He needed to keep Charlotte on Miranda's good side if he was going to get more of that good scrap from the junkyard.
"Perhaps..." Miranda says as she seems to be thinking more about what Heisenberg suggested.
"Oooohhh I wanna dance to can we can we can we?" Angie says while twirling around the group and singing her own little song to dance to.
"What an absurd notion. We're Lords. Nobility is no comparison for common rabble. To even entertain the idea is the naive ideas of a child." Dimitrescu replies while staring down her nose at the villagers from her seat.
"Maybe, but it looks like a hella lot more fun than sitting here," Heisenberg says while quickly glancing at Miranda. come on. take the bait.
"They're making fools of us," Dimitrescu quietly hisses.
"Use those giant fucking bat ears of yours to actually listen," Heisenberg says which causes pure rage to cross Dimitrescu's face but her anger is stopped by a single motion of Miranda's hand.
'Is that Lord Moreau?' 'This truly is a rare occasion,' 'A Lord dancing with the villagers?' 'I never thought I'd see the day' 'Agreed! This must be a good omen' 'It must be,'
"Astute as ever Heisenberg. I expect no less," Miranda says with a content smile. "You should follow your brother's example then. Go. Mingle among the villagers."
He did not need any further invitation to get away from her so with permission to leave given, sorta, he quickly got up and walked away while Angie similarly scurried around the room introducing herself and hurrying on her way before hearing anything in return.
The metal-wielding engineer walked over to stand next to Charlotte who was contently watching Moreau dance with the villagers from the side. She just needed to make sure that the villagers didn't see her dance with anyone after that and maybe they'd leave her alo-
"Clever Harlotte," Heisenberg says quietly which alerted her to his presence. "But I don't think anyone here will see the fish freak as genuine competition for a romp." He had a good guess of her actual intentions but, upselling it like that to Miranda benefited both of them well enough.
"And you're suddenly feeling so chivalrous to help," Charlotte replies with a slight frown as she silently admitted to the reason behind her actions.
"As much as it has been absolutely fucking fantastic watching you panic," Heisenberg admits with a snickering smirk. "You're of no use to me if you get demoted to village housewife." he says "Find a way to get us another supply run help me get two good size collections of scrap from that yard, and we're even."
she didn't really have much of a choice. "Fine," Charlotte agrees with a quiet sigh. "I'll think of something by the next meeting."
"Good." He replies while thinking it over. Something subtle enough to be seen as trivial by Miranda the other lord but obvious enough to get a villager to bugger off... he scratched at the space between his eyebrows as he thought over the puzzle. It took a moment but an idea came to mind as he removed the chain from his neck that held a small brass compass. The piece of shit didn't exactly work around him anyways since he was a walking magnet. It only ever pointed at him instead of north. "Here, put that on."
Charlotte cautiously accepted the offered compass and did as she was told. She didn't completely understand how that managed to work but even after Heisenberg walked away the advances stopped.
Well, I hope you guys enjoyed the fluffy chapter cause shit is about to hit the fan X'D may my offering of cuteness be sufficient for the future pain.
Review responses:
Black Moons Daughter - Aw thank you quq I did my best to try and make sure I included more Heisenburg shenanigans and time with Moreau lol Duke is an interesting one to write for. Not going to lie I pulled most of that dialog from the shop menu in the game lmao. hopefully, I can mimic his mannerisms from there.
Scaryberry - ah dang it all OTL sorry about that. I could have sworn I caught that one. I'm not sure what causes that TBH. If it's not too much trouble, if you notice more sentences like that, can you please continue to let me know while I try and figure out why it deletes stuff like that? Lol yeah he's definitely a pest XD I'm excited for the next chapter. It's going to be an interesting one if I manage to follow my notes. A bit of drama, a bit of cuteness. good times. kinda. lol XD
