"Are you trying to get us killed?" Remus whispered harshly, shuffling as silently as possible along the corridor. It was well past curfew and the darkness made it hard for them to see as the three teenagers crept around the corner. Lit candles sat within alcoves giving off little light, but it was just enough that when they squinted they could see their path was clear.
"No one is getting killed Moony, unless we come across Filch, then we might," James whispered back. He was at the front, leading them along in their quest for mischief and excitement.
"Nah, he's more likely to just maim us a little," Sirius snickered in response. He was in the middle, always right behind James and ready to back him up if needed, while always protecting Remus and holding him back from getting into too much trouble. "It's McGonagall we have to worry about."
"Don't worry, we're not going to get caught. We're just going to sneak in, grab a few misplaced items and we'll be back in the dorms in no time," Remus raised an eyebrow as James spoke so confidently about his plan. It was nothing special, but they could never miss a chance to have a poke around Filch's office, nor the drawer overflowing with confiscated goods, when he was on patrol.
"For a pretty vague plan you've got an awful lot of confidence James," Remus mumbled, stumbling back slightly as Sirius nudged him with an elbow.
"You've always got to be confident in your plan, Remus don't doubt it now!" Sirius barked softly, the glint in his eyes meant trouble, and Remus was far too exhausted to be dealing with any additional mischief he could come up with.
"Alright, alright, the plan is great and we definitely won't get caught," he conceded.
"Really now? Potter, Black and Lupin! How many times have I told you that wandering around the castle after curfew will not be permitted?" The thick Scottish accent took them by surprise, James tripped and fell backwards into Sirius sending them sprawling across the floor. Remus managed to catch himself in time, stepping to the side and swiftly smacking his head into a sconce. Hurried apologies spilled from their lips as Remus pulled his friends up to their feet, robes tangled and hair mussed as they tried to avoid the eagle eyes of their Head of House. "Enough! My office, now, and there will be no talking."
"So much for not getting caught, James."
"I said silence!"
"Yes Professor McGonagall."
