Chapter 28
"I still think this is a bad idea," Kate said as Kara landed back near the bus full of children. The blonde had landed at Wayne Enterprises and scooped up her friend without saying anything to anybody, instead she explained on the way.
"I'm not saying it's a good idea. It's just the only one I have at the moment given our time constraints," Kara told her.
"So, you decided to agree to my request. Smart. These kids probably wouldn't hold out much longer. I was kind of interested to see if it would become the 'Lord of the Flies' in there," the blonde woman that Kara had met earlier said.
"Tatiana, you piece of…" Kate didn't finish that thought as the woman held up the bomb detonator.
"Tatiana? Who is that?" Kara was thoroughly confused. Kate however ignored her question and asked their foe,
"Does she even know you're here and what you've done?"
"I do all of this in her name. You know that," Tatiana smirked.
"Safiyah is a lot of things but somehow I don't think she authorized you to kill the Wonderland Gang and Tommy Elliot. I know she wouldn't authorize blowing a bunch of kids up or turning Gotham into crater," Kate frowned.
"Anything to get her Alice back," the second in command of the Many Arms of Death said.
"You know that Alice would never go back. You really think killing her gang and her accomplice would change her mind?" The brunette gave her a look.
"No. The only thing that would get her to change her mind is you and your dead body," Tatiana said. Kara watched as the woman pressed the button on the detonator. The Maiden of Might shot off toward the bus, ripping the doors off and throwing the bomb into the air before rushing toward the factory.
Kate now stood alone with Tatiana as the bomb that had been on the bus exploded hundreds of feet above them. She didn't have any weapons to protect herself. While she doubted that Tatiana had a gun, her usual weapon was a sword, she was still a master at hand to hand combat and martial arts. A highly trained assassin who had no compunction against killing children was a very dangerous person.
"I may have underestimated your friend. The bomb in the factory should have gone off by now," Tatiana said.
"She'll be back any second…" Kate didn't get to finish as they both heard the sirens in the distance. Luke had called for backup but it had taken a very long time to arrive given how many Crows had been at Wayne Enterprises. Kate figured the slow response wasn't totally unexpected. Instead of getting a fight out of Tatiana though, all the brunette got was a smirk before the woman threw a smoke bomb. Trying to find her as the smoke cleared, Kate was unsuccessful, and she heard Supergirl trying to comfort the children, who had still been too afraid to leave the bus.
"She's gone," Kate told Kara as she joined her friend helping the kids off the bus. She noted that the factory workers were running out of the factory as well. Since the brunette hadn't heard an explosion, she wondered how the Kryptonian had managed to diffuse the bomb.
"She's scary and a very good liar. Had me convinced she was Safiyah," the blonde said.
"This won't be over until she gets what she wants – me, dead," Kate said.
"Well there has to be a way around that. Perhaps we need to do the one thing she wouldn't expect," Kara told her. Kate raised an eyebrow, unsure what her friend meant.
"We need to go pick up your friends," the brunette said.
"Our mutual friend is already helping them," she said as the Crows, followed by some GCPD arrived on the scene.
