After Olivia had snapped back to reality, while feeling like she was drowning at Elliot's admission, she thanked Dr. Lindstrom and scheduled another session for the two of them the next Friday, same time. She added the appointment to her calendar and sent Elliot a reminder for the appointment to his calendar.
As she was getting into her vehicle, she sent Lucy a quick text letting her know she'd be home in thirty minutes. Lucy responded almost immediately telling her it was no big deal and she could take her time.
That girl is a saint. Olivia couldn't help but smile to herself.
Her phone began to ring, and she looked at the caller ID. AYANNA was displayed across the screen. Her mind was still racing from Elliot's final admission, at the end of the session. That bastard knew just how to press her buttons and throw her thinking into a tailspin. She almost debated letting the call go to voicemail, but quickly dismissed that thought and clicked the green phone icon.
"Captain Benson."
"Olivia, I know who you are, I called you." Ayanna laughed.
"Sorry. Force of habit." Olivia answered, releasing the breath that she was holding. "What's up?"
"I've been trying to reach our problem child. Any idea where he is?"
"Uh, well, yeah." She bit her bottom lip and then took a deep breath, "Actually, I do." Olivia brought her hand to her eye and ran her thumb along her brow, "He is sitting in his vehicle checking his missed calls on his phone in a Parking Garage – at least that's what it looks like from here."
"Wow, are you stalking him?" Ayanna asked, laughing lightly, obviously joking.
"I'm not stalking him - nor am I babysitting him. I'm offended that you would think that. He's a grown man, he can do whatever." She sighed, "The only way I could get him to agree to counseling was partners' therapy. Or that's what we're calling it."
"You got that stubborn-ass man to go to couples' therapy?" Ayanna asked.
"I didn't say couples' therapy…" Olivia ran her hand through her hair, "No, his kids threatened him with excommunication from their family. They told him he needed to get better and if he didn't they'd kick him out of the Stabler clan. No holidays, no birthdays, no Sunday dinner." Olivia paused, "So naturally, he decided it was vital for his survival, if he ever wanted to see his children or grandchild again."
"Well, at least you're getting him to fulfill the silent request from 1PP." Ayanna paused, "Even though he doesn't even know it."
"It's better for him if he doesn't know." Olivia massaged her temples, her brow retreating upward to her hairline. "He would never say anything in treatment if he knew."
"Just be safe." Ayanna cautioned, "You know how the Chief feels."
"Yes," Olivia's tone suddenly changed drastically, "And as I told him the other day– I trust Elliot would never intentionally do anything to endanger my life nor would he do anything that he used to do to endanger my job."
"He doesn't like how close you two are." she swallowed, "He doesn't understand your dynamic, and neither do I, but I do know whatever you two had back in the day, it worked well. With your 97% success rate."
"He doesn't have to like it. It is what it is. He was my partner and my best friend. He can't control my personal life. I'm distancing myself professionally, but personally – that's a whole other story – even though Garland keeps trying to set me up with various friends of his." Olivia rolled her eyes, still staring across the garage at the bane of her existence at the moment, "I'm not saying I'm going to go for anything more than repairing our friendship, but he was pretty clear about how he felt in that letter he wrote me."
Ayanna laughed on the other end of the line, "Tell Garland you're a lesbian."
"Yeah, I don't think he'll believe me on that one."
"Tell him the whole thing with Tucker made you realize it."
Olivia let out a light laugh. "Yeah, okay. Although, there was that one case Elliot and I worked – Babs Duffy…She was a fun one, you would've liked her. She was the leader of a lesbian group LesBeStrong…staunchly against anyone else in the LGBTQ Community – until we forced her to admit she was bisexual – she tried to kiss me – Elliot thought it was funny at the time, and wouldn't answer if I gave off gay vibes… at the end of the case, she kissed Elliot and told him to give her a call. It was – actually funny. Do I?" Olivia asked, "Give off gay vibes?"
"Well, Olivia, to be honest and since you asked, you do kind of give off vibes. You give off bi-curious vibes." Ayanna stated.
"See, now I'm glad I have both you and Kat in my life to tell me when it happens." Olivia stated. "It's actually benefited me in cases where misogyny ran deep."
Both women laughed on the phone as she watched Elliot through her window. He appeared to be hesitant to turn the ignition switch. Even after it had come out that it was a remote detonator that exploded and gravely injured Kathy-eventually killing her, his PTSD was still triggered by getting in vehicles and driving places. Maybe next week she could get him to carpool with her. Biting the inside of her mouth, she tried to weigh the pros and cons of this ride share situation – maybe it would put his mind at ease if he didn't have to hesitate before turning the ignition.
Then, it struck her that if they shared a ride, it would just be awkward after a session. Especially if the session went anything like today. "I think it's probably safe to call our problem child, in case you were wondering."
"Thanks for looking out for him, Captain, it's important to me that he succeeds." Ayanna deadpanned, her voice coming through the speakers in a tone that Olivia recognized.
"I know. It's not a problem, you just make sure you have his six when he needs you." Olivia's voice held the authoritative and threatening tone to it that she usually reserved for her squad when she wanted them to do something. "I can't risk losing his dumb ass again, in any form."
