Vanilla the Rabbit, a middle aged female rabbit and the caring mother of Cream the Rabbit. Vanilla is well known by Sonic and his peers ever since they rescued her and Cream from Eggman a long time ago. Sonic saved Vanilla in his Super form trying to break her free from one of Eggman's traps before crashing to earth. Since then Vanilla and Cream are eternally grateful for Sonic and his friends by helping them in any way they can. The gang also helps Vanilla since life of a single mother could be stressful and one way to help is taking Cream out with her friends so that Vanilla could have time to herself.
It was early in the morning over at Vanilla's and Cream's cottage home. The sun was rising up from the horizon and hitting its light over the area of the rabbit's home. In Vanilla's room, her alarm clock was buzzing out loud causing the adult rabbit to twist and turn on her bed. Having enough of her clock's annoying buzzing, Vanilla tried slamming her fist at the clock to make it stop with her face planted on the pillow. She missed during her first few tries before finally making the clock stop and was left with her hand feeling pain.
Vanilla slowly lifted her head off her pillow with her eyes half closed. Still feeling tired, Vanilla tried her best to get up from her bed as she wore her purple sleeping night gown. Vanilla sat on her bed as she stretched her arms up in the air and finally got off her bed. The rabbit walked towards her mirror and took a gander of her once sleeping face.
Vanilla wished she could just stay in bed and sleep all day, but she knew she couldn't because she had things to do with Cream today. With a loud yawn coming out her mouth, Vanilla grabbed a white robe from her closet and headed downstairs..
Reaching the first floor of her home, she spotted her daughter Cream in her cute pajamas, watching TV with Cheese sitting next to her. Vanilla wasn't surprised by this since Cream sometimes gets up early in the morning because of how much young energy she had due to her youth and to watch her favorite early cartoon shows.
"If only I had the same energy as Cream. I'm getting old." Vanilla teased herself in her thoughts.
Cream smiled as she spotted her mother and waved to her. "Morning Mom! I hope you slept well!" The young rabbit greeted her mother.
"I sure did sweetie, but I'm still a bit tired." Vanilla said, before yawning. "I need some morning coffee to start my day. Come dear, I'll make you some breakfast."
"Okay!" Cream said, excitedly as she got up.
Vanilla headed to her kitchen with Cream following her. The adult rabbit headed to one of her pantries and took out a toaster, bread, and began to make toast with the items. Vanilla also began making some pancakes with the batter she had left over from yesterday's breakfast. At last Vanilla prepared her coffee machine since she really needed that extra push to start her day.
Cream's attention turned to her mother when she brought a tray of their breakfast and gently placed it on the table. Cream thanked her mother and grabbed a piece of toast and picked up some pancakes with a fork.
Vanilla sat down gently on her seat and took a hold of her mug filled with hot steamy coffee that she sniffed up the aroma hitting her nose. Vanilla blew on her coffee to cool it down for a bit and took a soft sip of it. Vanilla could feel the caffeine in her body as her drowsiness was beginning to fade away.
"Ahhh! Much better. That hits the spot." Vanilla said, feeling refreshed looking at her cup of coffee with a smile.
"So mom, are you ready for today?" Cream asked.
"For what?" Vanilla said, raising an eye at her daughter before taking another sip of her coffee.
"Oh don't you remember. We're going to the rollerblading derby that opened up recently with Sonic and the others. You promise that you will teach me how to rollerblade today." Cream reminding her mother.
Vanilla's eyes widened because she remembered the conversation with Cream about this the other day. Vanilla forgot that she planned to take Cream to rollerblade with the others. The middle age rabbit merely forgot due to how busy her week was. Vanilla shook her head because she wanted to live up to her promise.
"Yes I do, Cream. I almost forgot about that. I could really use the exercise and what better way to do that is by rollerblading." Vanilla smiled, letting out a sweat drop.
"Yes! I finally get to see you rollerblading!" Cream happily said.
"Really?" Vanilla chuckled.
Cream shook her head, "Sonic and the others show me that cool rollerblading trophy you got when you were their age. I've been excited to see you rollerblade with my own eyes." The young Cream said, all hyped up..
"Well I didn't win that trophy alone. I had some help with a friend, who taught me how to rollerblade in the first place. I couldn't have gotten the trophy without his help." Vanilla explained. "Don't get your hopes up too much. It's been years since I last rollerblade, there's a high chance that I'm not as good as I was back then."
"Even so, I know we're gonna have lots of fun together with the others." Cream said. "Who was this friend of yours that taught you how to rollerblade? Is he still around? Can he teach me how to rollerblade as well?"
Vanilla began to blush at the question, "His name is John Smith, he was filled with a high spirit and had a good heart. He was kinda like Sonic and strangely enough was a hedgehog like him." She said, thinking back.
"Did you have a crush on him?" Cream asked, seeing the blush on her mother's face.
Vanilla blushed harder, "Yes, you could say that John was my first crush." She answered.
"Woah! Where is he now?" Cream said, curious to know.
Vanilla frowned at the question, "That I don't know dear. I haven't seen him since the night we had a party when we won the trophy together. I still wish I could meet him again, there was so much about him that I wanted to know." She said, sad thinking recalling her past.
"Aw I wish I could meet him. He can probably be my dad for all I know." Cream said, joking around.
Vanilla started laughing at the idea that she almost choked on her coffee. "He could be. He would be an excellent father for you Cream. I just know you'll love him as well." She said, keeping her smile. "Still, I have this feeling in my heart that John is still around and if he is, maybe one day we'll meet again."
There was a knock at their cottage home that the two rabbits heard. Cream was about to get up from her seat to open the door until her mother stopped her. "You just sit down dear. You enjoy your breakfast while I go get the door." Vanilla said.
Cream nodded and continued eating her breakfast. Vanilla walked towards the door of her home and opened it with a friendly look. At the door Vanilla met face to face with the famous Blue Blur, Sonic the Hedgehog, holding what seems to be bags of items.
Vanilla smiled and gave a bow to the young hedgehog, "Oh hello Sonic, I'm surprised to see you here." She politely said.
"Hey Vanilla." Sonic greeted back with a wave hello. "I'm just dropping by from my morning run and I bought the new supplies that you wanted for your home. I went to the store and got the early bird special just as you wanted me to do." The hedgehog said, holding the bag of supplies of household items for the rabbit.
"Thank you Sonic, you helped me save my time and money. I would have done it myself but I've been so busy all this week that I didn't have the time." Vanilla thanked the blue hedgehog.
"Ah it was no sweat. I'm just helping a friend." Sonic said. "Besides, life as a single mom is gotta be hard. Me and the others try to help in any way we can."
"I'm very lucky to know I have that much support from all of you." Vanilla said.
Sonic nodded at the rabbit and looked behind her to see Cream who was in the kitchen. "Hey Cream! You're ready to rollerblade today with the gang!" He shouted.
Cream waved hello to the blue hedgehog, "Oh hi Sonic! Yes! I'm very excited to rollerblade today." She responded.
"Would you like to stay and have some breakfast with us before you go?" Vanilla offered.
Sonic shook his head, "Thanks but I already had my morning breakfast. Right now I need to burn off those calories with my morning run. Thanks for the offer though." Sonic smiled and nodded.
"Oh then I bid you a good morning." Vanilla said, giving a bow.
"Back at ya. Well I gotta go burn some calories. See ya at the derby." Sonic said, backing up from the rabbit.
Vanilla watched with a smile as Sonic then blasted off in a blur. Vanilla couldn't help but admire the amount of energy that Sonic and the others had. Though it's because of their young age, she really wishes she could have the same energy so that she could do the things she wants on her own.
The adult rabbit closed the door and went back to her kitchen to continue her breakfast with Cream. Vanilla looked at her coffee with a frown for she needed it if she's gonna start her day. Though the coffee helps her in the morning, the only downside is that it leaves her with a bad coffee breath afterwards
A few hours later
Vanilla, Cream, and Cheese were walking down the streets of Station Square together. Vanilla wasn't her usual lavender dress that she wore and instead was wearing a special outfit to rollerblade in. The same goes for Cream, who was very excited because she could fly in excitement with Cheese in her arms.
The family took a look around the city for sightseeing. They figure they should do a little shopping around Station Square to see what catches their interest after rollerblading with the others. They looked at the windows of the stores to see fancy dresses made by Honey the Cat's mentor Candy, stores where they were selling different types of cookbooks that caught Vanilla's eyes, and a tasty bakery shop for them to buy some sweets.
The two finally came across the rollerblading derby in front of them. Vanilla smiled and let out a sigh in nostalgia for it has been years since she last set foot in the building. Vanilla stopped going to the derby due to how her life became busy and because the derby itself closed down until recently the place reopened up for the public.
Vanilla and Cream stepped forward and entered with amazed faces. The place had an 80's theme to it, much to Vanilla's liking. The place had posters of famous 80's bands, movies, and many other things. The place had some purple neon lights and banners displaying the bathrooms, snack bar, and the derby itself. There was even an arcade section filled with old classic games.
The place is huge with tons of people around. People at the snack bar eating and drinking with their friends after a long day of rollerblading together, people going in the locker rooms to change out of their regular outfits, people at the area arcade section playing games and of course people rollerblading.
There were three sections for rollerbladers, one for casual people to just have fun, a kid section for young kids to learn rollerblade with their friends or family, and the third section for competitions such as races were held at.
Vanilla and Cream walked in further as they were surrounded by the sounds of rollerblades rolling and stomping on the ground, and the loud 80's music playing through the speakers.
As the two rabbits and little Chao walked, they encountered Sonic and the others on the casual section of the rollerblading derby. With Sonic were Tails and Honey the Cat, who Sonic is close to and considers them to be siblings.
Cream got really excited when she saw her friends and became really eager to rollerblade with them and join in the fun. Vanilla giggled seeing how happy her daughter was getting and gently stopped her from moving any further by placing a hand on her shoulder.
"There they are mom! Come on! Let's rollerblade with them!" Cream jumping up and down in excitement.
"Now hold on Cream. We can't enter yet until we put our rollerblades on." Vanilla said.
Cream nodded to her mother as they went and found a seat nearby and took off their shoes and replaced them with rollerblades and left their regular shoes in their gym bag. Cream took her mother's hand gently as they made their way towards the arena. Vanilla hopped onto the derby with Cream and Cheese and headed towards Sonic and the others.
As they came near the gang, Sonic was the first to see them coming and stopped in the middle of teaching to Tails and Honey.
"Vanilla! Cream! Glad you two can make it!" Sonic said, happily greeting them.
Vanilla smiled back, "Sorry if we're a little late. I was just having a hard time finding my old rollerblades. Surprisingly they still fit me pretty well all these years." She said, looking down at her blades.
"No sweat. I was just teaching Tails and Honey here how to rollerblade to pass the time." The hedgehog said.
Honey nodded, "Yeah I fell on my bottom quite a few times today, but I'm getting the hang of it." She said, rubbing the back of her head embarrassment.
"I could say from experience, that's how everyone starts off when rollerblading. I remember falling so many times that John had to stick by my side to make sure I didn't hurt myself." Vanilla said.
"Well are you two ready to blade?" Sonic asked the rabbits.
"Yeah we are!" Cream said, shooting a fist in the air.
Vanilla nodded, "Of course, but there's something I like to do first." She said.
"What is it?" Tails said, curious.
"I like to rollerblade on my own for quite a bit. I need to know if I still got what it takes." Vanilla said, clenching her fist.
Sonic smiled seeing the ambitious face on the adult rabbit. "Sure, go ahead. We'll try to get you enough room to do so." He said.
"You don't mind waiting for a bit?" Vanilla asked her daughter.
Cream nodded, "Not at all mom, I can finally see you do this. I know it's gonna be great." She spoke, shaking her fist.
"Thanks dear." Vanilla said, kissing her daughter's forehead.
Cream carefully moves next to Sonic and Tails as they watch Vanilla rollerblade away from them and head to a large empty spot of the area. Some people could sense that Vanilla wanted room for her to give out a performance.
Vanilla was at the other side of the area as she took deep breaths to get herself ready with her hands on the iron handles behind her. The rabbit closed her eyes and cleared her mind thinking only herself and the derby itself and imagined she was under the spotlight.
In Sonic's eyes, memories of Vanilla when she was a teen were floating in his head. Sonic smiled seeing that Vanilla still has the same determined look on her face when he first rollerblade with her back in 1985.
"She still has that look on her face, even after all these years. Well Vanilla, show me that you still have the skills that I taught you back then." Sonic thought to himself.
Sonic looked over to Cream and Honey, "Watch you two, you're about to see something amazing today." He informed them.
After a few minutes to herself, Vanilla shot open her eyes and smirked. Without thinking a second, Vanilla blasted off as she let go of the handles behind her. People were surprised by the speed Vanilla was showing with her blades that she caused small winds of air as she moved.
Vanilla kept her smirk as she did an amazing 360 spinning like a top without getting dizzy or falling. After Vanilla stopped spinning, she headed over to the iron handle bar and made a great hop into the air and landed on the handles with her blades perfectly. Vanilla kept her balance perfectly on the handles and did a backflip off them and landed on her feet without harm.
The next trick Vanilla did was putting her leg up and using only one leg to move. Vanilla switched legs as if she was doing a dance and kept her balance. Vanilla then jumped on the handles of the derby and began grinding on the long handles, making small sparks from the iron and ended it with an amazing jump off the handle.
Everybody who was shocked and amazed as they saw the rabbit perform that their mouths were wide open. Everybody but Sonic, who was watching with a calm smile and chuckled as he looked around to see everybody's reaction. Vanilla was going up and down all around with her amazing tricks.
Vanilla continued as she performed more amazing tricks that a woman her age couldn't do that made some women that were her age a bit jealous who were watching. After a while, everybody thought Vanilla had already shown all the moves she could do.
That wasn't the case for Vanilla, for she had one more trick up her sleeves that caused people to stick around to keep watching. Vanilla went back to her starting position from where she first started and began to do a few stretches with her legs.
Vanilla took another deep breath and blasted off almost in a blur like what Sonic could do. The adult rabbit was building as much speed as she could for her last trick. Everybody was in suspense as they feared that Vanilla might mess up and get injured.
After building enough speed and finding a large enough room. Vanilla leaped into the air with a great hop. In mid air, Vanilla did the most remarkable pose that anyone could do and spun around as gravity was starting to pull her down.
Everybody watched carefully as Vanilla landed safely on the ground after her move and did another pose indicating she was finally done. People immediately applauded when she finished. People were clapping and whistling for Vanilla as some went as far as throwing flowers at Vanilla as if she won a gold medal.
All Vanilla did was giggle and waved at everyone clapping for her. The adult rabbit then finally had enough and headed back to Sonic, Tails, Honey and her daughter Cream who were waiting for her.
As Vanilla came back, her daughter Cream was giving one amazed look on her face and quickly hugged her mother. Vanilla laughed and hugged back her young rabbit.
"Mom! I don't know what to say! But you were amazing!" Cream screamed in joy.
"Thanks dear, but those were just a few tricks I learned back in the day. Anyone could do it really." Vanilla responded.
"Don't be so modest, Vanilla. What you did just now was one of the most amazing things I ever saw." Honey said.
"Yeah Vanilla, not a lot of people could do the same tricks as you do." Sonic gave a thumbs up.
"Thank you all." Vanilla bow.
Vanilla felt a slight pain on her hip causing her to let out a small moan of pain. Sonic the others got worried as they gathered around the adult rabbit.
"Vanilla, are you okay?" Sonic asked, worrisome.
Vanilla just nodded, "Yes I'm okay. It's just that my body wasn't great enough to endure my rollerblading skills as it was back in the day." She said, rubbing her hip. "I'll be fine really. Just give me a moment to rest and I'll be back to rollerblading."
Sonic and the gang smiled and nodded as they went on their merry way and back to rollerblade. Vanilla made her way to a nearby bench and sat to rest her body as Cream sat beside her wanting to sit next to her mother.
"Mom, once you are all rested and feel better, can you teach me how to rollerblade? I want to learn from the best." Cream politely asked.
All Vanilla did was smile and pull her daughter close to her for a hug. "Of course, it will make me nothing but happy to teach you all I know." She said, as she hugged her daughter.
While Vanilla was resting herself, she took the time to examine Sonic and the others. Vanilla saw a pair of couples enter in a small dancing competition where they competed against other couples who wanted to win the contest. Vanilla was so impressed by the couple's performance that she clapped and sighs in nostalgia for she couldn't help remembering doing the same thing with John Smith back in 1985 when she won the rollerblading contest as the couple were laughing and smiling. Vanilla could tell that the contest brought the pair's relationship closer.
The adult rabbit watches Sonic teach Honey and Tails the basics of rollerblading. Vanilla watched as the two would sometimes have a hard time to keep their balance with their blades, only to have Sonic next to them for they often slipped and Sonic would catch them in time. Sonic would tease his friends for their clumsiness. Seeing this made Vanilla chortle for she would make this mistake and felt she was watching a clip of her youth play in front of her.
Of course Vanilla saw some random people at the derby. They were trying to copy some of her tricks from her performance. They fail miserably because they fall flat on their faces or back. The tricks Vanilla pulled off took a while to do even after John left her after the contest. Vanilla closed her eyes at times because she didn't want to see the boys get completely hurt and was thinking about telling them what tricks they should do before doing such advanced skills.
After Vanilla was fully rested and her body stopped aching, she finally got the time to teach Cream to rollerblade. Cream was giving out the biggest smile she could give as she finally learned from her mother. Vanilla held her daughter's hand and led her to the center of the area.
"Okay mom! What's my first lesson!" Cream said, excitedly
"It's simple Cream. Your first lesson is to learn how to balance. You just have to stand still for five minutes and try not to fall or slip." Vanilla said.
"Aw what?! That sounds really boring mom! I thought you were gonna teach those cool tricks you did today!" Cream said, disappointed.
"Now Cream, it's important that you first learn how to keep your balance on your blades before you can even move with them. Otherwise you won't be able to do the tricks I can do in the first place." Vanilla wiggled her finger at her daughter.
"Aw man. Okay, I'll keep my balance." The young rabbit said.
Vanilla smiled and watched her daughter stand straight on her rollerblade. From afar, Sonic and the others were laughing and smiling at what was happening between Vanilla and Cream. They were over by the cafe section having themselves a few snacks and drinks to enjoy after a long day of rollerblading.
"I tell ya, it's nice to see Vanilla getting out of the house. It's not often we see her out here in places like these." Tails said, smiling at the adult rabbit.
"Well Vanilla is a mom, being a mom takes a lot of your free time." Honey said.
"Not only that, but Vanilla isn't young like us. If she was she could do her daily activities much quicker and have free time to herself and with Cream." Tails said, as some nodded to agree with him.
Sonic looked back at his friends before taking a sip of his orange soda. "So how was your guys' time here at the derby?" he asked.
"It went great! I'm having fun!" Honey said, wagging her tail.
"Surprisingly it's a fun experience to be here." Tails answered.
"I wish Blaze was here to enjoy the derby with us. But she's being the princess of her dimension and what not." Honey said.
"If only the others were here as well." Sonic added in
"How does that rabbit do it? How is she able to do all those amazing rollerblading skills." Honey said, rubbing her chin and looking at Vanilla.
"Who knew Vanilla had such amazing skills to rollerblade." Tails said.
"She probably had a great and amazing teacher that taught her." Sonic said, secretly boosting himself.
"Come to think of it, Vanilla was pulling off moves almost similar to yours before she got here." Honey said, getting suspicious.
"Maybe it's just some weird accident." Sonic said, nervously drinking his soda and looked away slightly.
"At least Vanilla is spending some time with Cream. By the look on her face, she looks really happy being able to teach her." Tails looking over at the two rabbits.
Everybody nodded as they continued their meals and drinks and enjoying themselves until they felt the ground shaking hard causing everybody in the derby to stop what they were doing.
After the long pause, sounds of people screaming were heard outside. Everybody in the derby was confused by the strange screams as they began to look at each other and talk. The sound of screams alerted Sonic and his friends as they all frowned, for they might have an idea why the people were screaming in fear.
"Guys, let's go." Sonic said, giving his friends a serious stare.
"Right." They said and nodded their heads.
Vanilla and Cream stayed behind and watched as they saw Sonic and the others deal with the problem. Vanilla held her daughter close to her seeing the others leave for what's to come.
"I hope Sonic and the others come back safe." Cream said, worried.
Vanilla rubbed Cream's head to help calm her down. "No need to fear. Sonic and the others are gonna handle this. They always do." She said, comforting her daughter
As Sonic and the others ran out of the building. They backed up because a deadly beam was shot near their foot. Sonic gritted his teeth at the black mark where the beam landed on the floor before looking to see some Egg Pawns flying with small jetpacks on their back, terrorizing Station Square with their weapons from the air.
One of the Egg Pawns notice Sonic and the others and immediately lock on for a hit causing the others to jump in separate ways. Honey wasted no time by jumping into the air to dispose of the flying Egg Pawn with a strong uppercut.
"Nice uppercut, Honey!" Tails praised the cat, who nodded back at her.
"Guys, let's split up. Honey, you help everybody get to a safe place and protect them from any Egg Pawns that tries to hurt them. Once everybody is safe, come back, let's all meet up." Sonic said.
"You can count on me, brother!" Honey said.
With that, Honey ran off to help and protect the people of Station Square. Sonic looked at his best friend Tails and set a plan.
"You and I will go and handle the source where these Egg Pawns are coming from. I think it's a safe bet to know who's causing trouble." The hedgehog said, not really surprised.
Sonic and Tails began running in the other way in haste as they frowned and prepared themselves for what's ahead. Sonic and Tails ran past multiple people who were running and screaming in the opposite direction they were heading and slightly pushed their way through them.
At last the duo came across none other than the mad scientist himself, Dr. Eggman, Sonic's arch enemy since the start of his adventures. Eggman was in one of his usual machines, the Egg Breaker, a big muscle gray Egg Pawn. What's different about this Egg Breaker was that it was holding a giant staff with a light blue glow. The glow from the staff was coming from a Chaos Emerald powering it.
Eggman was using the power of the Chaos Emerald to use staff to freeze time in its place as he was destroying the city in a great fire. Eggman was getting ready to zap a group of people with his Time Staff until Tails stopped him by throwing a metal piece he found on the ground to stop it for a moment.
Eggman took notice as he turned to see Sonic and the others with an evil grin.
"Well if isn't the blue rodent and his other rodent friend. I was starting to wonder when you will get here." Eggman said, happily.
"Up to no good as usual, huh Eggman?" Sonic said, frown.
"Oh you know me, Sonic. Nothing from me ever comes out good. I prefer it that way." Eggman shot back.
"Just what is your plan this time, egghead?" Sonic asked, frowning.
"Well if you must know. I recently found a Chaos Emerald on my own and I'm using its power to mess with time. I'm simply destroying Station Square and reversing the place to nothing but dirt on the ground and bring back all the useful materials that were here before Station Square was built and make this place a new base." Eggman said.
"Well why don't you go make your base somewhere else? I already like how Station Square is. Seriously, have you tried the chilli dog here? It's to die for!" Sonic teased, rubbing his belly.
"Silence you blue buffon!" Eggman shouted. "For I have the power of time in my possession to finally get rid of you."
Sonic shot a cocky smirk at his long-time enemy, "Good, you're gonna need all the time you need if you ever want to beat me!" He mocked the evil doctor.
"Enough talk! Time to end this! Literally!" Eggman said, making his machine point at the staff at Sonic and his friends.
A huge light blue beam was shot out of the staff. The duo split ways as the beam came towards them. Eggman was shooting his beam rapidly at the heroes the moment he made eye contact with them.
Eggman wasn't alone in the battle for he send out his flying Egg Pawns. Tails was off fighting the flying Egg Pawns as Tails flew around and kicked the Egg Pawns out for the air and slammed them to the ground with an airdrop. Sonic was dealing with Eggman head on.
Sonic was running and jumping around to hit the weak points with his homing attack. All while avoiding Eggman's beam attack.
The battle went on and on until Sonic finally thought of a plan to beat his arch enemy. With quick timing, Sonic made Eggman foolishly hit his own machine with the time staff causing it to move forward in time and make it all worn and rusty.
Eggman panicked because his machine was too rusty to move nor did any of the buttons work anymore. With Eggman at a disadvantage, Tails took a good shot at the chest of the machine and Sonic at the cockpit where Eggman was at causing the machine to have a small explosion.
Eggman's Pawn began to flee from the scene seeing their creator be beaten by Sonic and his friend. The Egg Breaker began falling apart as it continued to explode, creating a large dust cloud as the body parts all fell.
The street where the battle took place was covered in a brown dust cloud until Sonic did one of his blue tornadoes to clear everything up. As the blue tornado blew away the dust cloud, the street of Station Square was covered in rusty scrap metal from Eggman's machine and Egg Pawns that Tails were destroying.
People who were trapped or didn't get the chance to escape Station Square were coming out of the buildings, alleyways, and the sewers during Eggman's attack.
Sonic wiped the sweat off his forehead and looked behind to see Honey running towards him. Vanilla and Cream were also present as they were behind the cat. They looked around and saw the rumble that lay around them from the aftermath of the attack.
Sonic teases Honey with a smile, "Looks you were late to the party." He teased.
"Aw man, I wanted to punch more ofEggman's rust bucket machines." Honey said, disappointed.
"Wow! You guys are amazing! You saved the day!" Cream said, in joy for her friends.
"It's nothing Cream, we save the day more times than I build a new machine." Tails said, smiling at his rabbit friend.
"In celebration, how about we go back to my place and I'll bake a delicious cake for your victory." Vanilla suggested.
"Sounds good." Tails said.
"I could go for some cake." Honey smiled.
"Yeah why not." Sonic shrugged his shoulders.
"Alright!" Cream jumped in joy.
Everybody began to walk and leave the area, until Sonic stopped dead in his tracks. "Wait!" Sonic yelled.
"What's wrong Sonic?" Vanilla asked.
"I just remember that Eggman was using a Chaos Emerald for his machine. It's gotta be around here in the rumble. We can't just leave it here or else Eggman might get his hands on it again." Sonic said.
"Are you looking for this?" Said a voice.
Sonic and his surprised friends heard the voice as they recognized it quickly. They turned around and saw Dr. Eggman up on his feet and covered in dirt around his fancy red suit and a small crack on one of his glasses.
Their eyes met with a mini version of the time staff. Eggman was using the Chaos Emerald as a pier source. Eggman was giving one of his devilish smirks that was frightening Sonic and his friends as they all froze because Eggman was pointing his weapon towards Sonic's head and readying his aim.
"You didn't forget little old me did you?!" Eggman mocked as he kept his aim steady at Sonic.
Sonic was going to move until Eggman called him out. "Don't you dare move. If I see you move one inch of your body. It's gonna be light out. I should warn you, I have yet to test this weapon of mine on a living being and I'll gladly see what it does to each and every one of you here." He threatened the group.
"Eggman! Enough! You already lost! We beat your machine and army. There's no point of doing this. You can shoot me instead and keep the emerald, just don't shoot anyone else." Sonic sacrificed himself for his friends.
"Sonic no!" Vanilla shouted.
"It's okay Vanilla." Sonic said, looking back at the rabbit.
At this Eggman laughed at the blue hedgehog. "Ho ho ho ho ho! Oh Sonic, always the one trying to save his friends before yourself. Your modesty is what I hate about you. To be honest with you Sonic, if I wanted to get rid of you specifically. It wouldn't be like this. Your death should be on a silver platter for my enjoyment." Eggman said.
"I have someone else in mind." Eggman finished.
With that Eggman slightly aimed away from Sonic and pulled the trigger of his weapon, letting out a strange beam of light from it. Sonic quickly turned his head to see where the beam was heading as everything around him was going in slow motion.
The beam was heading towards his friend Vanilla, who couldn't move in fear as the beam was heading towards her. Sonic gave out the biggest shout as he tried to prevent the beam from hitting Vanilla. As fast as he could, Sonic tried his best to make the beam hit him, but missed as the beam passed the tip of his fingertips.
Sonic watched as he saw Vanilla get hit by the beam, making her scream in pain as her body was zapped all over. The others were too far apart from Vanilla to do something for they didn't expect Vanilla to be in any harm.
After being hit, Vanilla fell to the ground with a thud and became unconscious as her body twitched. Sonic and the others came running towards her as Eggman was just laughing at them. Honey quickly dashed forward with the power of her wings and knocked out Eggman's weapon from his hand causing it to be destroyed.
Eggman quickly fled from the scene as he called for another one of his Eggmobile to come pick him up. Sonic and the others were left watching Vanilla on the ground as tears from Cream's eyes were pouring out.
"Mom! Mommy!?" Cream cried, looking at her mother.
Sonic felt the most guilty out of his friends as he was down on his knees and looked at the ground with a pale white face.
"I can hear her still breathing. Come on, we can still help her." Tails said. "Let's take her back to my place. Honey, can you carry her."
"On it." Honey said she carried the rabbit in her arms.
"Mom! Please be alright! I don't wanna lose you!" Cream cried some more.
As the group left, Sonic was left behind as he was still down on his knee. It's not often that Sonic gets his friends hurt, but more importantly it was Vanilla who wasn't involved in anything before the accident. The image of Vanilla being blasted down sank into his head.
Just the thought of Vanilla getting hurt was making Sonic more guilty, angry, and felt that he was the one to blame. He stood still as his friends ran off to help the rabbit while he was left behind staring at the ground with his hands shaking.
