Ah.. Jump City High School..
Jump City High School was one of the best high schools in, well, Jump City, California. There, a group of one of the best friends studied.
Their own little group, The Titans, was well known across the whole school. Though some people loathed them for their great friendship, many adored them for it.
In their own little group was;
Dick Grayson, The converted brat; 'leader' of the Titans;
Kory Anders, The pretty Exchange student; Dick's girlfriend;
Victor Stone, The muscle, massive jock, star football player;
Raven Roth, The chic casual goth, who thinks her life couldn't get any worse and lives the most of it; And,
Gar Logan, The happy-go-lucky, popular basketball captain.
Though everyone in the group shared a very family-like bond, Raven and Gar had the most specially different relationship.
For anyone from the outside looking in, would think that Gar and Raven were a couple; even being named 'Favorite Couple' in the yearbook (Though both ended up laughing like crazy at the photo.).
They both would get into silly arguments and fights, and then make-up claiming to be best friends. They would constantly tease each other; Gar calling her 'Rae', and Raven, finding him an easy target, 'Huckleberry.'
They would get each other in trouble, but always be there on the lookout for each other.
Now, it was a sunny Monday morning, and every student was glum to come to school.. except the students of Mr. Kent's class.
Clark Kent was the Titans' Moral Value teacher.
The best part about his classes was that he would always allow the students to freely talk..ahm, discuss (there's always this one teacher in every school) his favorite being the five Titans, and then teach them a noble life lesson in fun ways.
Raven and Dick were usually the one students that you always expect to find in a class, the ones who always entered the classes way before any student does. The two friends, and most of the other students were sitting in class, but Victor was standing outside the class, practically on the verge of bursting into pieces if he grinned more.
'Stone?' Mr. Kent asked as he passed him to enter the class. 'Isn't my class supposed to be inside?'
'Today's the day sir!' Vic announced excitedly to his teacher.
'Today?' Mr. Kent raised his eyebrow, trying to contain his excitement at his student's plan that even he was a part of.
'Today.' Vic declared.
'Well, then best of luck Mr. Stone,' The teacher said, patting the student's back. 'I hope it does go according to your plan...'
Mr. Kent walked into his class, passing the student currently grinning like a maniac, to find a class with an uncharacteristically quiet group of students sitting silently, except for Raven, who had one arm holding the back of her chair and facing back.
'Wow,' The teacher announced in class, 'Have I walked into the wrong class or am I in heaven?'
'TODAY'S THE DAY!' Each and every student shouted, which caused Raven to bang her hand on the table and stand up with a scowl on her face.
'Is there something you're doing behind my back, Kent?' She asked her teacher suspiciously. Clark faked a funny 'scared' face towards his intimidating student and raised his hands. 'I know nothing Raven.'
To this she stood up and marched towards her teacher, and then got really close to him and eyed him, 'You sure everything's clear Kent?'
Now Raven, wearing her oversized black hoodie and infamous death glare, did look intimidating, and she kind of knew how to press the buttons of their innocent child loving teacher, and now did just enough to make him nervous and spill the beans. 'Well, Raven.. you see..' And then he audibly exhaled when Gar playfully walked into the classroom.
'Sorry, teach,' Gar said, looking over at Mr. Kent and hardly holding his laughter, seeing how uncomfortable Raven was making him. 'I actually had to run some errands at the basket-ball court slash gym as some volunteers were decorating it for prom so some of my teammates were having difficulties practicing, and as the captain,' he said, puffing his chest out at "captain", which earned him an eye roll from Raven and an inwardly chuckle from his teacher. '..I had to make some arrangements with the court fs- AHH!'
And then his rambling stopped as Victor grabbed his shoulders tightly and started shaking him wildly. 'Today's the day!'
'What day?' Raven and Gar, irritated, asked Vic, who had started laughing with the rest of the class, except a very confused Kory.
'Well, today, I, Victor Stone, along with Richard Robin Grayson, challenge you, Garfield Mark Logan, on a "Bull Riding Rodeo"!'
But then the whole class grew silent. 'What?' Vic asked with a confused face. 'Today ya'll were shouting "Today's the day!".. "Today's the day!" and now ya'll are just sitting quietly?'
'Wh-Who' Gar asked slowly, regaining his senses. 'Who is the nerd?'
'What nerd?'
'Who's 'Richard Robin Grayson'?' Raven asked, walking over to them.
'Richar- Guys! You don't know Dick's name..? Dick Grayson's real name is Richard!' Vic said, which caused everyone to laugh loudly at the tough guy's name, while all Dick could do was shake his head and Kory put her arm around him fondly.
After Mr. Kent made everyone stop laughing, Gar FINALLY regained his senses to what Victor was saying. 'Wait, wait, wait..' He said to the Titans, as now Kory and Dick were also standing in the front with Raven and Vic and Mr. Clark Kent. 'What do you mean by a bull rodeo?' he asked.
'Yes friends..' Kory said, 'I also have the no idea about the Rodeo? What may it be?' She asked innocently. Dick slowly opened his mouth to reply to his girlfriend but Vic beat him to it.
'Bull riding is a rodeo sport that involves a rider getting on a bucking bull and attempting to stay mounted while the animal tries to buck off the rider.
American bull riding has been called "the most dangerous eight seconds in sports." To receive a score, the rider must stay on top of the bull for eight seconds with the use of one hand gripped on a bull rope tied behind the bull's forelegs. Touching the bull or themselves with the free hand, or failing to reach the eight-second mark, results in a no-score ride. Depending on the bull riding organization and the contest, up to four judges might judge the rider and four judge the bull on their performance. For most organizations, a perfect score is 100 points. In general, most professional riders score in the neighborhood of the mid-70s to the high 80s.' Vic said swiftly with a robot-like voice.
As he finished, he could see everyone watching him with wide eyes, including Mr. Kent.
'Wha-what are you?' Dick asked disbelievingly. 'A Robot?'
'Maybe half.' he replied mischievously.
'No- No guys!' Gar said, 'I know what a rodeo is, it's that.. What do you mean "I blah..blah.. challenge Gar.. Logan?" Are ya'll taking me to a rodeo or making me participate in "the most dangerous eight seconds in sports."?'
'Well you are participating, and we're also putting up a bet.' Dick stated.
'Yep.. We give you 50 bucks if you win and you give us 50 bucks if you lose. Plus the entertainment of seeing the basketball captain weep like a baby!' Vic said, a sly smile playing on his face.
'Wha-what 50 bucks?' Gar said, desperately trying to control his rage. 'It's a bull rodeo! I COULD DIE! And ya'll want 50 bucks from mee!?'
'Cool,' Raven said in a monotone. 'It would kill him.. why didn't you guys tell me all about your "today's the day" plan' too?'
'Well only because if we told you, you would've said it to your boyfriend, and it's supposed to be a secret.' Vic replied hotly.
'Gar's not my boyfriend!' Raven said defensively.
'Well, who said your boyfriend was Gar?' Vic played her. 'But now that you mention it, hehe..' Raven was practically fuming.
'But sir,' Gar faced his teacher, 'What about our classes and..'
'Well, Mr. Logan, seems like all the five of you are excellent students.' Mr. Kent said, waving the five Titans, 'And plus, looks like Mr. Stone and Mr. Grayson have everything planned out.'
'Yep!' Dick said proudly. 'A luxurious two nights- one day trip to Austin, Texas. With our private guide, Alfred Pennyworth.' He said, mimicking the travel agency ads.
'Isn't it usually 'two days- one night'?' Raven asked, raising an eyebrow.
'Well, people, even I wanted a chance with Karen but she went to Texas okay,' Vic replied, 'So be happy with what you have. Plus, we'll even save school days. We'll go Friday evening after school, reach at night, attend the rodeo and see Gar die, Saturday morning, enjoy barbeque the same night, and then return Sunday morning.'
'Wait- wait.. Who's Karen?' Gar said, raising his hand, totally forgetting that Vic just mentioned 'Seeing Gar Die' in his sentence.
'Well I was kinda in a relationship with her.' Victor admitted bashfully.
'You studied in Texas?' Dick inquired.
'No, no.. She went to Texas... and then I came to Jump..'
'Oh! Do not worry friend Cyborg! I believe we shall do our best to reunite you with this Karen on our short trip!'
'Thanks, Kor.. Wait. 'Cyborg'?'
'Well, did you not say you were the half robot when Dick mentioned it?' She asked innocently.
'Sweet! New nickname Cy!' Gar punched the air.
'Well, looks like we're going to Texas!' Dick announced. 'TITANS GO!'
.
.
.
'You do know we're still in class right?'
'And our flight is after two days?'
'And you seriously don't have to say that every time we go somewhere y'know?'
'...'
