Chapter 4: Reunions: Good, Bad and..Scary
After Ash won his first Frontier Symbol, him and his crew were on their way to the next Battle Frontier Area, the Battle Arena. Not getting far, they were passed a speedy Arcanine being pursued by May's rival, Drew.
Drew was revealed to have come to Kanto and compete in the Grand Festival, already showing up May that he won a ribbon before she did. Fed up with not wanting to be left behind, May competed against him to catch Arcanine before he did.
But their little scuffle turned to be futile as it turns out that Arcanine was a mother to 3 baby Growlithe. So they decided to leave it alone.
As Drew leaves, he suggested that May should compete in the Contest in Saffron City. He explains that he won't be entering that Contest as he hopes to get a new Pokémon to strengthen his team.
Coincidentally, the Battle Arena was close by to Saffron City. So they decided to embark to the latter first.
Making their way down Route 5, May was looking around eager to improve after her encounter with Drew.
"Whoa May take it easy, you're gonna wear yourself out." Max said.
"No way, now that Drew is competing I gotta step up my game so I can beat him this time.
"Ah the smell of a heated and bittersweet rivalry," Brock reminisces. "Haven't seen one of these in a while."
"Yeah in Hoenn I didn't have any real rivalries until just near the League." Ash said.
"Pika," Pikachu nods, confirming it.
"I just gotta train hard for that contest. I need to catch a new Pokémon too." May said eager. "What I need is some challenges."
"Well you're in luck." Brock said seeing the open field. "This area has to got be filled with some trainers around."
"Hey Ash maybe you should try battling some trainers too so you're ready for the Battle Arena." Max suggests.
"Good idea Max," Ash smiled. "With the first Brain out of the way, who knows what challenge the next one has? Time for some serious training," he said clenching his fists.
"Pika!" Pikachu said pumped up.
Meanwhile in the distance a figure was walking up to a large wooden structure with a Sandslash by his side.
"It's been a while since we've been home eh Sandslash?" The figure said.
"Slash." Sandslash nods.
He puts down a bag and sniffs the air. "Feels good to be back in business." He grins and opens up the bag to reveal some Pokéballs. "And with these new guys, they'll be in for a rough time until the next trip. Alright you wimps, LET'S GET TO WORK!" The figure shouts, throwing all Pokéballs in the air, exploding white we zoom out of the facility.
Back with Ash's group, we see May and Squirtle in a battle against a trainer and Spearow.
"Alright Squirtle, Bubble!" May said as Squirtle fired multiple bubbles.
"Spearow use Aerial Ace!" The female trainer said. Spearow passes through the bubbles with quick speed.
"Use Water Gun and avoid it!" Squirtle opened its mouth and launches Water Gun from the ground, launching itself over Spearow.
"May and Squirtle are really getting good." Ash said.
"Yeah, Squirtle is pretty good once he stops crying." Max agreed.
"Now Squirtle Dive Bomb Tackle!" May said.
Diving straight down Squirtle rams into Spearow sending it crashing to the ground. "Spearow!" The trainer saw Spearow planted on the ground with a defeated look.
"Spearow is unable to battle, Squirtle wins! This battle goes to May!" Brock announced.
"Yes! We did it Squirtle!" May cheers.
"Squirtle Squirt." Squirtle smiles.
The trainer recalls Spearow. "Nicely done Spearow. Hey you're pretty good." She congratulates May on her win.
"Thanks I'm not usually one for regular battles but they definitely help prepare for contests." May said.
"A coordinator, eh? Yeah I can see it. We're just now getting people like you around Kanto."
"I'm preparing for my first contest." May said.
"Well then you should try battling AJ." The trainer said, getting Ash's attention.
"AJ's still here?" Ash said surprised.
"Oh yeah, he just gotten back from Johto not too long ago," The girl said. "And it took awhile, because he's probably gotten himself some good and super tough Pokémon he's itching to train."
"Wow, he really did it." Brock smiles impressed.
"Who's AJ?" May asks.
"AJ is this super tough trainer I met when I was traveling. In fact he was one of the first trainers I ever lost to." Ash admits.
"Pika," Pikachu had a sheepish look on his face, remembering that embarrassing day.
"Why are you embarrassed? You didn't even battle." Ash points out.
"I bet AJ could really give you a challenge now." Brock said giving Ash an idea.
"Yeah a rematch with him would really help prepare for the Battle Arena." Ash said.
"Hey wait a minute, who said you were gonna battle him?" May said. "I was offered the idea before you."
"Yeah but you didn't even know who he was." Ash said.
"But I need a new challenge to help me with my contest." May said hands in hips.
"Well I need a challenge for the Battle Arena." Ash crosses his arms.
"I have an idea, how about we see if this AJ guy wants to battle first then sort this out." Max suggests.
"Hmm.." Both hummed before coming with an answer. "Sounds fine to me."
Upon arriving at AJ's gym, Max looks in shock at the sign
"100 wins, 0 losses. That's incredible." Max gasps.
"Once he won 100 battles in a row AJ left to start winning badges." Ash explains.
"Hey now that I think about it, we didn't see him at the Indigo League." Brock recalls.
"He must have missed the deadline to get at least 8 badges." Ash assumes as May walks to the door.
"Hey! Anyone in there! I'm here to battle!" May calls out.
"My first victim of my first day back huh?" A voice said on the other side of the door.
"Did he say, victim?" May said a little uneasy.
"Yep." Ash and Brock nod as the giant gate opened.
They were introduced to a familiar battlefield with a tent in the background. "Welcome!" They see on the field was an older male with messy green hair, wearing a black and red shirt. "Haven't had a match here since I came back, so hope you don't disappoint me!"
"If she doesn't I will." Ash said stepping up getting his attention.
"I don't believe it. Ash Ketchum is that you?" AJ smiles.
"Long time no see." Ash waves.
"I thought I'd never see you around these parts again." He said.
"Taking on the Battle Frontier." Ash said causing AJ to whistle.
"Now that's impressive. Those guys are way tougher than the League." AJ said walking down.
"Hey AJ." Brock waves.
"Brock good to see you." AJ said noticing May and Max. "Huh? I don't remember you two."
"My name's May and that's my little brother Max." May explains. "We're from the Hoenn Region."
"Hoenn? Wow I haven't been there yet." AJ said.
"Well you can see how amazing Hoenn is when we battle." May said.
"Really now, so you're a trainer May?" AJ asked interested.
"Well not really, I'm more of a Coordinator." She said.
"Coordinator? Oh for those contest things. I saw one of those on TV." AJ recalls. "Not really my style. I don't do all that flashy stuff."
"It's more than just flashy stuff, it's all about precise and how you use your Pokémon's moves fluently." May defended. "I'm in the need for some warm up battles on my way to Saffron City."
"Well I've never turned down a challenge before and I don't plan on starting now." AJ said.
"Actually AJ, I was hoping you and I could have a rematch." Ash said.
"Hey I asked him first." May said turning to Ash.
"Tell you both what?" AJ said getting their attention. "How about I battle both of ya?"
"Really?" Both said interested.
"Yeah both pick one Pokemon and I'll use two. We'll make it a Double Battle." AJ grins.
"But isn't there supposed to be 4 trainers to make it a Double Battle?" Max asked.
"No exactly. As long as Ash and May use only one Pokémon then AJ can just use two of his." Brock explains.
"Well what do you guys say?" A.J asked. "You in?"
"I'm not complaining." Ash smiles.
"It's still a battle." May smiles.
"Then wait until you see these! Sandslash, Tyrogue let's go!" AJ said throwing two Pokeballs and the little fighter and evolved ground type appeared.
"Tyrogue!"
"Slash!"
"Sandslash? Wait a minute is that who I think it is?" Ash gasps.
"You bet it is." AJ grins.
"That's the same Sandshrew that Ash fought with," Brock said surprised to see that it has evolved.
"And check out that Tyrogue," Max said eyeing the fighting type and it's stance. "It looks serious."
"Since you're using him I'll use this one. Pidgeot I choose you!" Ash said calling out his flying type.
"Squirtle take the stage!" May said calling out her water starter.
"Pidgeot!"
"Squirtle!" Both Pokémon land on the field.
"Pidgeot, remember this place?" Ash asked.
"Pidgeot." Pidgeot said looking around remembering that battle all too well.
She was just a Pidgeotto back then, and thought with her flight abilities she could take Sandshrew out, but instead she was the one to be knocked out easily after 1 hit.
"Hope you two are a lot stronger or this is going to be a quick one." AJ said.
"Oh don't worry, we're gonna bring it." Ash promises as Pidgeot raised her wings.
"Squirtle get ready, cuz we're in for a big one." May tells the turtle.
Taking out his whip AJ snaps it. "Sandslash! Tyrogue attack!" AJ orders as both Pokémon charged in.
"A whip?" May jumped in shock.
"You'll see later! Pidgeot go!" Ash points
"Sandslash Rollout!" AJ said using his favorite attack.
"Steel Wing!" With a glowing wing Pidgeot whacks Sandslash away. "I'm not falling for that again."
"Squirtle, use Tackle!" May said as Squirtle charged.
"Tyrouge, Counter!"
Once Squirtle rams into Tyrouge, red energy surrounded his fist allowing him to send Squirtle flying back at double the damage.
"Now follow it up with Mega Kick!" Tyrouge jumped and kicked Squirtle in the chest.
"Squirtle!" May gasps as Squirtle tumbled back. "I'm starting to see why he won 100 battles in a row." She gulps.
"Pidgeot, use Steel Wing again!" Ash said as Pidgeot charged in with glowing wings.
"Sandslash, Crush Claw counter!" Sandslash's claws extended and collides with Pidgeot, trying to push her back.
"Squirtle Bubble!" While Sandslash was still in the lock Squirtle pelted him with Bubbles allowing Pidgeot to gain the upper hand.
She knocks him away.
"Thanks for the help May." Ash smiles.
"Hey cant let you have the fun in this match," she said with one of her trademark smiles. "Now Squirtle use Bubble!" She said as Squirtle released a stream of bubbles towards them.
"Tyrouge, Endure!" AJ yelled.
A golden aura envelops Tyrogue allowing him to remain standing.
"We're not going down easy. Sandslash Rollout! Tyrogue Mega Kick!" As Sandslash rolls into a ball Tyrogue kicks him like a soccer ball sending him shooting towards Pidgeot hitting her dead center.
"Geo!" She gasped for air.
"What was that?" Max gasps.
"He used the strength of Mega Kick to increase Rollout's power. I thought AJ was fierce using just one Pokemon. Give him two and he's even stronger." Brock said in awe.
"Pidgeot, are you OK?!" Ash exclaimed.
"Pidgeot." Pidgeot growls slowly getting up.
"That Sandslash is even tougher than last time.." Ash grits his teeth.
"Yeah but so are you. What do you say we step it up?" May suggests.
"I'm listening." Ash said looking to her.
"Follow my lead and for my signal," she tells him.
"You got it." Ash nods.
"Squirtle Rapid Spin!" May said as Squirtle spins into his shell and flew towards them.
"Tyrogue Brick Break!" AJ said as Tyrogue charged in with a glowing fist.
"Now Ash!" May said.
"Steel Wing!" Flying in with a glowing wing, Pidgeot whacks Squirtle sending him crashing into Tyrogue before bouncing off and hitting Sandslash.
"What the?" A.J gasped.
"Point for us." Ash and May said at the same time.
"Didn't think my own technique would be used against me." A.J said before an impressed smile appeared on his face. "This battle just got more invigorating!"
"Squirtle Bubble!"
"Sandslash Gyro Ball!" AJ said as Sandslash spun towards Squirtle popping all the bubbles.
"Protect!" Flying in Pidgeot makes a barrier protecting Squirtle from the attack.
Bouncing Sandslash off of it, but Tyrouge catches him. "You can't use Protect twice in a row! Tyrogue Mega Kick! Sandslash Crush Claw!" AJ said using this opening to attack.
"My turn May." Ash said before turning his hat around, meaning time to get serious. "Pidgeot, use Mirror Move!"
"Pidgeot!" Pidgeot copies Sandslash as her talons were glowing and she collided and grabbed onto Sandslash's claws.
"Slash!" Sandslash gasps as Pidgeot flew into the air holding onto Sandslash.
"Don't forget about about Tyrouge, Ash!" A.J points.
"I didn't! Go Squirtle Tackle!" May said as Squirtle rammed into Tyrogue.
"Ty!" Tyrouge coughed before back-flipping and growled. "Tyrogue!"
"Alright Tyrogue, let's show her what we Kanto Trainers are about!" A.J cracks his whip again as Tyrouge's eyes sharpened.
Charging in Tyrogue leaps off Squirtle before leaping high into the air kicking Pidgeot in the face freeing Sandslash.
"Now Sandslash, go for Squirtle and use Fissure!" A.J yells.
With glowing brown claws, Sandslash dives towards the ground like a missile ready for the One Hit KO.
"Squirtle quick Water Gun straight down!" Firing Water Gun, Squirtle shoots straight up before Sandslash made impact causing the entire floor to shake.
Everyone braced for impact, trying to stay still. May saw a crack heading towards her. With quick action, Ash pulled May out of harm's way and onto his side.
"That was way too close." May said.
"Yeah, I guess A.J still needs to understand his surroundings and get a different field.." Ash said.
"You can't stay in the air forever Ash." AJ said.
Ash looks to Pidgeot, "Pidgeot we may have to swap to ground mode."
"Pidgeo!" Diving down at full speed, Pidgeot flew in towards them.
"Sandslash, Tyrogue go!" AJ said as both Pokemon go to meet them.
"Squirtle quick slow them down with Water gun!" Squirtle charged up but instead of Water Gun an Ice Beam was fired surprising everyone.
"Squirtle's using Ice Beam?!" Ash gasped.
"Amazing." May said in awe as Ice Beam struck Sandslash dealing super effective damage.
"Slash!" Sandslash's entire body was coated with ice right now.
"Quick Tyrogue get Sandslash free!" AJ orders.
"Now Pidgoet use Brave Bird!" Erupting in flames Pidgeot flew in and smashed into both AJ's Pokemon.
A massive explosion occurred, knocking Sandslash and Tyrouge out of the ring.
Groaning both Pokemon had swirly eyes.
"We won!" May cheers.
"Yes!" Ash smiles hugging May with joy surprising her.
And she never thought she'd feel Ash's..upper body strength.
"Oh uh wow yeah we did great." May said when he opens his eyes realizing what he was doing.
"Uh g-geez I'm sorry." He quickly lets go of her.
"It's uh it's alright you were just happy." May said
The two looked away from the other awkwardly. But that all changed when Squirtle jumped into May's arms. "Squirtle!"
"Squirtle that Ice Beam of yours was amazing. You won the battle for us." May smiles.
"Pidgeot, I'm proud of you. We evened up the score." Ash said petting her side.
"Pidgeo." She smiled before feeling the recoil damage.
"Well Ash, I'm impressed. You two beat me." AJ smiles.
"Thanks AJ." Ash smiles.
"So uh since this is over, why the whip?" May points.
"This? It's how I train my Pokémon, MY way." A.J said cracking it.
"And how do you train them your way?" Max asked.
"Very VERY hard." Brock said.
"Why don't you show them A.J?" Ash asked. "Can we go in your tent?"
"Sure, you can see some of the new Pokemon I got in Johto." AJ said.
Upon entering Max and May looked in shock and awe to see multiple Pokemon going through tough training exercises.
A Golbat was flying through flaming hoops. A Growlithe was racing a Sneasal as they did laps around the tent while a Scyther and Beedrill hit multipe targets and a Poliwhirl leaps off a high dive.
"Wow, you do train savages." May said blown away.
"Savages? Hardly these Pokemon are my friends and partners. I don't push them any further than I know they can handle. All I ask for is their best." AJ said.
"See, he may be rough on them, but he still cares for whatever he catches," Brock said.
"Well that's good to know." May said.
"So you push your Pokemon but you make sure not too much." Max said.
"Exactly. However the reason I couldn't compete in the Indigo League was that I spent a little too much training and I ended up missing the deadline." AJ admits rubbing the back of his head.
"Aww what?" Ash turns. "So that's why I didn't see you there."
"Yep so I ended up just competing in the Johto League. Now that was a challenge." AJ said.
"You must have competed there when we were in Hoenn." Brock realized
"How'd you do?" Max asked when A.J grew a smirk pulls from his bag a large golden trophy.
"What do you think?" He said, shocking them.
"You won?!" Ash and Max exclaimed at the same time.
"My first league trophy." AJ smiles proudly.
"No way, you were THAT strong.." Ash said blown away.
"Tons of training and practice goes a long way." AJ said.
"I'll say." May said wondering what she could do with more practice, and Ash, well he was thinking the same but for two different reasons.
"So Ash we're both tied at one win and one loss. Maybe someday we'll have a tie breaker." AJ said.
That made Ash grin, "Yeah, only I'm gonna be the one breaking it. So what's your next move?" Ash asks.
"I'm going to just train here a while. I lost which means I need another 100 wins before I can go looking for badges." AJ said.
"Another 100? Boy you're determined." May said.
"You really want to be prepared." Max said.
"Yes I do, I hope you're prepared too Ash. Good luck with the Battle Frontier." AJ said.
"And good luck to your next winnings A.J." Ash said.
"Pika Pika."
"Slash." Both Mouse Pokémon said shaking hands.
After an epic rematch against AJ, Ash and his friends continue on towards the Battle Arena and May's first Pokémon Contest.
We find ourselves in Saffron City as May was eager to compete in her first Kanto Pokémon Contest.
"Wow Saffron City is amazing." Max said.
"I bet you guys had the time of your life here." May said causing Ash, Pikachu and Brock to shudder.
"I..I wouldn't say that.." Brock trails off.
"It was definitely an experience I'll never forget." Ash cringed.
"Cha.." Pikachu's body wasn't yellow anymore, but pale.
Seeing their faces, May and Max realized that it was probably best not to ask.
"So..h-hey. Why don't we go find the Contest Hall?" May decided to switch topics.
"Good idea." Ash agrees.
"I bet if we find the Pokémon Center we can find it." Brock suggests.
Max found both Pokémon Center and the Contest Hall nearby.
Entering the contest hall, they see tons of trainers and their Pokémon were preparing for the big event.
Opening the door May looks in awe at the contest arena.
"Wow, look at this arena! It's beautiful!" She said totally drawn into it.
"Bet it feels good to be back." Ash smiles when he sees someone in the middle of the stage. "Hey I'd that who I think it is?"
Looking at where he was pointing they see it to be an adult woman with curly brown hair.
"Is that..Vivian?" May asked.
"She sure looks different." Max speculated.
"Espeon come on out!" She said throwing a Pokeball into the air and the Psychic Eevee evolution appears. Once Espeon hits the stage, the spotlight glistened on it.
"Now use Swift followed by Psychic!" As Espeon fires multiple stars its eyes glowed allowing it to control all the stars.
The stars all formed into peon leaps and somersaults several times through the rings and gracefully lands on the stage.
"That was incredible." May said
"You can see she trained it well." Brock said.
"How was that?" The MC asked the staff.
"Excellent work. You nailed it." The staff said.
"Perfect hopefully things will be ready for the contest." She smiles.
One of May's Pokéballs popped open, surprising her to reveal Squirtle. "Squirtle!"
"Squirtle?" May gasps as Squirtle ran down to the stage.
"Squirtle, come back!" May shouted running towards it.
The MC and Espeon were finishing up before they see Squirtle hop on stage. "Hm?"
"Squirtle!" Squirtle started firing Bubble in the air, seeing them sparkle in the air, gets it in awe.
"Aww isn't that cute?" The MC asked picking him up. "But how did you get up here?"
"Squirtle!" She sees May and the others run up. "I'm so sorry, he just came out of his ball out of nowhere and ran."
"It's quite alright, but I'm afraid you two will have to wait until the contest to perform." The MC said handing Squirtle to May.
"Sorry Vivian." May apologized.
"Huh? I'm not Vivian. She said confusing them.
"What? But I've met you several times back in the Hoenn Pokémon Contests when you MC'd there. I even have some of the ribbons you awarded me." May tells her.
"Oh! I see, you're talking about my older sister." The MC said, getting more confused looks from the group.
"Your sister?" Max asked.
"You see, Vivian is the MC in Hoenn. My name's Lillian, I'm the MC for the Kanto Contests." Lillian introduces herself.
"Oh I see now, the two you dress is completely different." Brock now sees the difference.
"Right? But for some reason people still keep mixing us up." Lillian said.
"I'm sorry." May apologies for the 3rd time.
"No it's fine. So I take it your entering the Contest?" Lillian asked, earning a nod from May.
"Yup, it'll be my first Kanto Contest." May smiled.
"Well I wish you the best of luck, May and you too Squirtle." Lillian said as they left.
At the Pokémon center all of them were sitting down discussing May's plans.
"Are you wanna use Squirtle? Wouldn't using Combusken or Munchlax be a better option?" Brock suggests

"Or better yet Beautifly, Bulbasaur and Skitty would help you even more." Max says.
"I don't think so ever since our battle with AJ I've been wanting to try using Squirtle in a contest. Give my new Pokémon a chance." May explains.
"I can respect that." Ash nods in understanding.
"Your attention please!" Nurse Joy announces on the intercom. "Contestant #45, your Pokémon are fully recovered and are being brought out!" Seeing the doors opened, someone was pushing May's Pokémon out on a stretcher.
"Oh that's me, here I co-AH!" May suddenly froze and screamed in shock. Getting their attention, the boys looked over and had shook looks on their faces as well, looking at the person who was pushing them out.
It was a guy with purple hair, wearing green needle like clothing that is supposed to resemble a Cacturne. "H-H-Harley?!" May points.
"May, oh my goodness! It's been awhile hasn't it?" Harley said with a look of joy on his face.
"What are you doing here?" May panics.
"I'm helping Nurse Joy with all the contest Pokémon." Harley explains.
"You help Pokémon?" Ash said before groaning. "Ugh that does not roll off the tongue well."
"My Cacturne was running down a fever so I brought it to Nurse Joy, seeing on how she was so caring and selfless she was being reminded me on how mean and selfish I was." Harley lamented. "It was then and there that I've decided to start a new leaf and become a better person!"
"A b-better person?" May stuttered.
"Starting with you May. No words can express how sorry I am for how I treated you back in Hoenn." Harley said wiping tears as his voice cracked. "I was nothing but a damn fool, not realizing how much of a nice and sweet person you really are. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me."
"Somehow we find that hard to believe." Brock said.
"Yeah didn't you pull this same stunt back at Grand Festival?" Max narrows his eyes.
"I know, I know. That was completely unacceptable and immature of me." Harley said sadly. "My loss against you really opened my eyes."
"If you say so." May said not sure.
"Is everything alright?" Nurse Joy asks walking out.
"Nurse Joy isn't it true that I'm helping you as your assistant?" Harley asks.
"Of course it is, you've been a great help." Nurse Joy said surprising them.
"He's telling the truth?" Max gasps.
"See? And get this, I got some hot info for the Pokemon Contest." Harley smiles, getting May's attention. "Coordinators are allowed to switch Pokémon between the first and second rounds."
"Is that true?" May asks looking to Nurse Joy.
"Why yes it is." Nurse Joy confirms.
"See, I helped you out. Can't you see I'm a new and trustworthy man?" Harley asked.
"The rules here in Kanto are very different but you don't have to change Pokémon if you don't want to." Nurse Joy explains.
"I guess that makes perfect sense for me and my Pokémon." May thought out loud and grinned. "Alright, in that case, I'll be using Combusken and Squirtle for the contest!"
"Ooh May your Squirtle is such a little cutie." Harley smiles.
"Thank you. So uh anything else I need to know before I register?" May asks.
"Oh don't worry if you still have your contest pass you use it in this region too and signups don't end until tomorrow at 11." Harley assures.
"Wow Harley, all the info you're giving me..makes me think you really have changed." May said.
"How about we go grab a bite to eat, and chat?" Harley offers.
"Sure." May agrees.
"I don't mind." Brock said.
However, Ash and Max stayed silent.
"Ash I'm not sure if we can trust him just yet." Max said.
"Yeah...hey Pikachu how about we go check something out?" Ash suggests.
"Pi." He nodded.
"Uh you guys go on ahead." Ash said breaking up the group. "I think I'm gonna call Prof. Oak first."
"Alright we'll be over there." May points to some chairs. Ash nodded and walked away with Pikachu.
At the counter Ash walks over.
"Uh excuse me I have a Hoenn contest pass, can I still sign up for the contest?" Ash asks.
"I'm sorry sir but you need a Kanto pass. Hoenn passes aren't valid here." The front desk lady said.
"Oh really." Ash twitches.
"Yes so if you want one you'll have to hurry registration ends at 10 tomorrow morning." She said causing Ash to tighten his fists.
"I see...I'll take one pass please." He said keeping his anger in.
"Coming right up." She said putting it in the system before handing him the pass. "Have a nice day."
"Thank you." Ash said taking it before turning in Harley's direction revealing enraged looks on his and Pikachu's faces.
"Looks like "Mr. New Leaf" is still the same "Mr. Rotten Leaf", from before," Ash glares.
"Pika.." Pikachu growled.
At the table everyone was laughing at Harley's story.
"And so then I said—"
Before Harley could finish Ash grabs him by his jacket and slams his back against the wall.
"You rotten sneaky liar! I should have Pikachu zap you with a Thunder!" Ash snaps.
"A-Ash?!" May gasped at his sudden outburst.
"Ash, what are you doing?!" Brock exclaimed.
"Y-yeah, what's gotten into you Ash?!" Harley said, surprised, but Ash kept his grip.
"I know your game Harley, and no way I'm gonna let that happen again!" He snapped.
"Ash I have no idea what you're talking about." Harley said.
"Oh drop it! I swung by the front desk and guess turns out May needed one of these!" Ash said holding up a Kanto pass.
"Is that a contest pass?" Max stood up as Harley's eyes widened.
"Yes, a KANTO contest pass. And the only pass that's needed to compete in Kanto Contests. May, your Hoenn Pass would be useless here." Ash tells her.
"Is that so?" May narrows her eyes.
"And that's not all. Turns out the registration deadline is at 10, not 11." Ash said.
Harley's face morphed into a nervous one as he felt glares from all of the group dead right at him. "I knew it! You're still the same sleazeball Harley!" Max accuses.
"And I here thought you've changed your ways." Brock agreed.
"I can't believe you would to trick me, again!" May snapped.
"And I so close to making you miss it until your boyfriend messed it up for me." Harley declares.
Ignoring the name, Ash lets go. "So it was true. You're still out to get May."
"Of course I was, like I would ever be nice to her." Harley said.
"So this whole Pokémon Center thing was just a trick to get us to believe you." Max assumes.
"And it would've worked if it hadn't been to Mr. Nosey over here." Harley glared at Ash, who glared back, even harsher.
"I don't understand your blind hatred to May, it's pathetic." He said
"Is pathetic to want to win contests and make sure the worthless ones are out of the way?" Harley asks.
"Yes!" All of them said.
"It's entirely Harley, and it's really getting stale and old!" May said.
"No, what's old and stale is your pathetic act. I mean I looked over all your Pokemon and I gotta say they are as pathetic as you." Harley said.
"Oh like your Pokémon are any better." Ash mocks.
"They can beat your stupid Pokemon easy." Harley said.
"Is that a challenge?" Ash's eyes sharpened.
"Like you would actually be a challenge. You don't even compete in contests." Harley said.
"So?" Ash shrugged. "Me not being a coordinator dosen't mean I can't kick your sorry and cowardly butt."
"Alright Ashy boy, since you seem to love butting into things how about you put your money where your mouth is. You and me one on one." Harley said.
"Oh you are so on. I'm gonna make you regret every trying to mess with May." Ash vows.
"Ash vs Harley, I never thought I'd see the day," Max says.
"Ash better watch himself, Harley's a tricky guy." Brock said.
May on the other hand was speechless, if it wasn't for him, she would have never gotten the pass or made the entry time. 'Ash did that for me? Wow..' She thought.
Out back, Ash and Harley faced off at the Pokémon Center battlefield.
"Last chance to back out Ash. If you apologize now I might look the other way." Harley said.
"It's a good thing we're at the Pokémon Center because you're gonna need a doctor to fix you up when I'm done with you." Ash said.
"Hmph, you're as stubborn and dull as that good two-shoes," Harley said annoyed.
"Well unlike you, May is actually fun to be around." Ash said.
"OK let's get this match underway then." Brock announced. "This will be a one-on-one battle with no time limit. First to knock the opponents Pokémon out is the winner, now select your Pokémon!"
"Go, my Ariados!" Harley throws out the red tarantula Pokémon.
"Ariados." Ash takes his PokéDex out.
"ARIADOS, THE LONG LEG POKÉMON. AND THE EVOLVED FORM OF SPINARAK. WHILE ARIADOS WANDERS IN SEARCH OF PREY, IT SPINS A SINGLE THREAD FROM ITS REAR THAT LEADS BACK TO ITS NEST. ONCE PREY IS CAPTURED, ARIADOS WILL DRINK ITS LIQUID WITH ITS SHARP FANGS."
A new Pokémon Harley must of captured once he arrived in Kanto. Ash thought of the perfect Pokémon to choose. "Why not fight a Johto Pokémon with another Johto Pokémon?" He asked throwing out his selected Pokéball. "Phanpy, I Choose You!" Out came the baby elephant.
"Smart move, Phanpy has a total advantage against Ariados." Max said.
"Poison and Bug attacks hardly do anything against Ground types." Brock nods in agreement.
'Hmph, that's what he thinks, little does does this punk know, he's in a world of hurt.' Harley thought smirking.
"Phanpy start us off with Hidden Power!" Ash said as Phanpy fired glowing orbs that flew towards Ariados.
"String Shot!" Firing a silky string Ariados yanks one orb sending it smashing into the others canceling the attack.
"Now Scary Face!" Ariados makes a scary face, frightening Phanpy.
"Phan." Phanpy whimpers.
"Phanpy hang in there." Ash said.
"Now that you're paralyzed by fear, let's see how you like my Shadow Ball!" Creating a sphere of darkness, Ariados launched it at Phanpy sending it flying backwards.
"Phanpy!" Ash gasped.
"You see kiddo? This is why you're not like us coordinators, already I can see the sloppy mistakes you're making." Harley mocked laughing, angering Ash.
"Phanpy use Rollout!" Rolling into a ball, Phanpy spins towards Ariados like a wheel.
"Use Spider Web!" Ariados spits a web in front of Phanpy to trap it.
"Jump!" Leaping over the web, Phanpy drops down on Ariados.
That gotten Harley's attention. "What the?" Ash continued on the attack.
"Now use that new move we're working on, Ancient Power!" He said.
"Phanpy!" Phanpy roared as he summoned rocks around him and they striked Ariados.
"Hey I didn't knew Phanpy could do that," Max says shocked.
"I guess watching Noland's Articuno from the Battle Factory inspired Ash to learn it." May smiled.
"Hey Harley where'd the grin go?" Ash mocks at his surprised look.
"Dodge it with String Shot!" Firing the thread Ariados fires it and swings out of the way.
"Don't let him get away Phanpy, Rollout!" Ash said.
Racing after him, Phanpy followed Ariados from below.
"Drop down and use Double Edge!" Lowering down Ariados moves in.
"Switch to Take Down!" Leaping out of Rollout, Phanpy clashes with Ariados creating a lock as they tried to push the other one back.
May shouted, "Come on Phanpy! Crush that spider!"
"You can do it!" Max cheers.
"Spider Web!" From its mouth Ariados wraps a web around Phanpy's trunk before throwing Phnapy around like a tetherball.
"Now spike that runt!" Harley said. Ariados spiked Phanpy with a harsh blow.
"Phanpy are you okay?" Ash asks as Phanpy broke out of the web.
"Phan." Phanpy growls.
"Crushing you is almost as fun as crushing May. You two are all talk, complete amateurs." Harley smiles.
"Man do you have an off switch somewhere?" Ash said really getting annoyed by his insults.
"Now Ariados use Shadow Ball!"
"Ancient Power!" Hurling the giant boulders they destroy Shadow Ball and crush Ariados like...well like a bug.
"Aria!" Ariados hissed in pain.
"Phan." Phanpy glows feeling his stats increase thanks to Ancient Power.
"Perfect! Now Phanpy Rollout!" Ash said as the charged Phanpy charged in ramming into Ariados.
"Ariados!" Harley said before growling. 'Can't believe this little runt is beating me..hang in there Harley. Just be patient for a little more..'
"Now Take Down!" Ash said as Phanpy charged in.
"String Shot and Scary Face!" Using String Shot on itself, Ariados spun around making a truly horrifying face.
"Phan!" Phanpy jumps in fear and scurried back to Ash.
"Pikapi." Pikachu flinched hiding behind Ash in fear.
"I-It's OK guys, really it's just a battle." Ash said getting over his flinch to calm them down.
"Consider yourself lucky Ash, I was planning on saving this for the Contest but you get a sneak preview." Harley said.
"He's sneaky, even more sneaky." Max said.
"It'll take more than that to beat Ash." May said hopeful.
Ash says to Phanpy to keep shaking it off Phanpy walks back out.
"Ash why don't just give up. My Ariados has your wimpy little Phanpy scared." Harley said.
"Oh you'd like that, wouldn't you? An easy win. Like when you tried to sabotage May. That's the problem with your Harley, you don't put in any effort. You take the easy way out, you lie, you trick people, you use every sneaky trick in the book so your opponents give up and you just take it without putting in any hard work at all." Ash said.
"Of course I put in the work, I only weed out those who are weak." Harley scoffs. "Like you and little MayDay."
"May is not weak. She's one of the best Coordinators I've ever seen and the only reason you keep sabotaging her is that deep down you know that. You can't stand that May is better than you in every way so you come up with these tricks to try and get rid of her." Ash declares causing May to smile.
And Harley replies with, "What are you supposed to be, her Romeo?!"
"Either way you're not the big star." Ash smirks.
"I'll show you! Ariados Spider Web! Firing multiple webs, Ariados tries to trap Phanpy as it races around with ease.
"He's losing his cool." Max grins.
"He never had it in the first place." Brock chuckled.
"Now Swinging Double Edge!" Using the webs, Ariados swings in like a pendulum.
"Ancient Power and drop it straight down!" Phanpy has the boulders drop down on all the webs and because Ariados was still attached to them it got pulled in.
Harley's eyes widen in horror. "Let go! Let go!"
Ariados cuts free but as it was about to land it panics seeing Phanpy charge in at full speed.
"Gotcha!" Ash roars as Phanpy smashes into Ariados with Take Down sending it crashing to the ground.
"Aria!" Ariados faints before rolling on its back, legs curled up.
"Ariados is unable to battle, Phanpy wins! The victory goes Ash!" Brock announced.
"No!" Harley screams.
"Yes!" May and Max cheered.
"Phan.." Phanpy sighs as he sits down. Ash came over and helps him up.
"You were great Phanpy. Nice job." He congratulates him.
"Pika Pikachu." Pikachu agrees.
"Phan." Phanpy smiles loving the praise.
"I-I lost..to a trainer? Me?! Impossible!" Harley was going ballistic.
"Oh it's possible," he heard Ash said. "And you know what else is possible? May beating you once again in the Contest tomorrow."
Hearing this Harley growls as he returns Ariados.
"I'll get you May and your little boyfriend too!" Harley points.
And he stomps off back to the Pokémon Center. "That oughta teach him a lesson." Ash smirks turning to May and almost immediately she hugs him surprising him.
"Thanks Ash, you're the best." May said causing him to blush softly.
"Uh..i-its no biggie May, really." Ash cleared his throat.
"And trust me, tomorrow I'm gonna beat him too." May said slowly letting go.
"You better, or my win will be unjustified." Ash jokes taking out the Kanto Contest Pass for her. "Remember, Deadline is 10 AM."
"Got it." May smiles taking it.
"Wow Ash, I never thought you of all people would handle something like that." Brock said.
"Well I wasn't about to let Harley get away with this." Ash brushes it off.
"Gotta say aside from the short violence, it was..pretty mature of you,"Brock said impressed.
"Trust me I understand what dealing with someone like Harley is like. It stinks." Ash assures.
Now that Brock could understand.
"Well it means a lot to me Ash, thank you." May said.
"You can thank me even more once you gotten your hands on that Saffron Ribbon." Ash smiles.
"Count on it." May grins, feeling even more pumped to win after today.
After putting annyoing Harley in his place and inspiring May, Ash, Max and Brock eagerly await May's first Kanto contest ribbon.
Meanwhile in the Pokemon Center, Nurse Joy was working hard when a disguised James and Meowth ran in.
"Nurse Joy help!" James said.
"What is it?" Nurse Joy asks when she gasps in horror seeing Cacnea tangled up in Jessie's hair. "Chansey we're gonna need some scissor cut her hair free!"
"Not my hair!" Jessie panics.
We find ourselves at the Saffron City Pokemon Contest and all the stands were packed eagerly awaiting the contest to begin.
"Welcome everyone, it's Showtime! The Saffron City Pokémon Contest is now up and ready to begin! Are you ready for the magic?!" said Lilian as the crowd was cheering. "Only 1 contestant will take home this valuable prize: the Saffron Ribbon! Only truly amazing coordinators, who win this one will hopefully move onto other contests around the region and get right amount in order to compete in the Kanto Grand Festival! "Now introducing our panel of judges, first we have the Director of the Pokemon Contest Committee, Raoul Contesta!"
"It's a pleasure to be here." Raoul smiles.
"The president of the Pokemon Fan Club, Mr. Suziko." Lillian introduces.
"Hello, it's remarkable to be here." Mr. Suziko smiles.
"And Saffron City's very own Nurse Joy!" Lilian finishes.
"It's an honor to be included," says Nurse Joy.
Brock is in another lovesick state like always, "I'm honored to be in your presence Nurse Joy!"
"Are we going to have to change seats?" Max sweatdrops looking at Ash.
"If he goes overboard, you have my permission to restrain him." Ash said.
"That's all I ask." Max said.
In the back room, May and Squirtle were watching on the screen.
"Are you excited for this Squirtle?" May asks.
"Squirtle." Squirtle nods.
Looking across from them was Harley with a vengeful look on his face. 'Yesterday was a disaster for me. I didn't get May to not get registered thanks to Trainer Boy, but that will all change today! I'll get even with you May..'
"Now give it up for our first contestant, Harley!" Lilian said as Harley made his way out first.
"Thank you, thank you!" Harley said as the crowd cheered for him.
All except the main group. "Mr. Creep himself." Ash said.
"If people knew the real Harley they wouldn't be cheering for him." Max glares.
"Come on out, my cool Cacturne!" Harley throws out his signature Pokémon. "Use Cotton Spore!"
"Cacturne!" Cacturne releases round spores as they slowly rotate in the air.
"Now use Needle Arm!" Cacturne stands motionless for some time (with a snap from Harley) it protruded spikes from its whole body through all of the spores, creating an interesting display.
"Wow that's pretty good." Max admits.
"He's human garbage but he puts in the effort with his training." Ash said.
Brock agreed. "Gotta give him credit, must have invented that himself."
"Now that's the kind of crowd pleaser to start a contest with! Let's keep this going!" Lillian said as more coordinators and their Pokemon stepped up.
One has a Pidgeot doing aerial summits, another had Vileplume releasing Stune Spore, an Alakazam showing off its psychic abilities by twirling its spoons, and a Tangela showing off its many vines by extending them.
"And now welcome our next enterence, coordinator Empress Empress Jessibella!"
Emerging in a red dress, fancy butterfly shaped glasses and a very short hairstyle Jessie emerged.
"You can do it!" James cheered.
"Go Jessibella!" Mewoth cheered.
"Come on out Cacena!" Jessibella said calling out Cacnea.
James' very own Cacnea.
Jessie and Cacnea both do a risky appeal by running toward each other into a hug, and the crowd just loved it.
"Wow...that's both painful and impressive." Ash cringed.
"Seriously, hugging a Cacnea. It's painful just to watch." Max cringed.
Lillian and the crowd were in tears. "Wow! What a romantic heartwarming embrace, showing the deep bond between Coordinator and Pokémon! It brings such tears in my eyes, along with the audience!"
"Just a little more." Jessibella cringed. "Cacnea Pin Missile!"
Firing Pin Missile straight up it made fireworks making the hug all the more beautiful.
"Combining Pin Missile with fireworks was an impressive idea." Nurse Joy said.
"I'll say, it's remarkable." Mr. Sukizo said.
"A beautiful blend of high and might explosives." Mr. Contesta said.
"Praise for Jessibella our next contestant-" Lillian looks over to see Jessibella was still there. "Uh hello, your turn is over."
However Jessibella instead falls to the ground fainting causing her to panic.
"Someone get Chansey and the Stretcher!" Lillian calls out as Chansey carted her away.
Lillian cleared her throat. "Sorry about that everyone, but let's move onto our final entry. From Petalburg City in the Hoenn Region! Give it up for May!"
As May and Squirtle slowly walked Squirtle got a little nervous.
"Don't worry Squirtle, everyone gets scared at first but you'll get the hang of it." May assures.
She takes her Pokéball out. "Now pay attention! Combusken, take the stage!" May shouted throwing her starter out. Combuksen did a somersault once released and lands on stage.
May takes off her bandana. "Alright Combusken, let's go!" She throws it towards her. "Use Fire Spin, then follow it up with Sky Uppercut!"
Combusken propels the bandanna upward with Fire Spin, leaps through the spiraling flames, and uses Sky Uppercut to refold the bandana. Combusken then delivers one last blow to send the retied bandanna right back onto May's head. Combusken lands in front of May and the two pose for the finish.
"And May and Combusken have just displayed an excellent combination of Fire Spin and Sky Uppercut! What a perfect way to end the first round!" Lillian smiles.
"Squirtle." Squirtle said in awe.
Everyone seems to be pleased with her performance, except for Harley, who looks disappointed with her success.
"Now that the judging is complete let's introduce the 8 contestants that will be moving on. Please turn your attention to the screen." Lillian said as everyone looked to see the top 8 appear and in them was...May, Harley and even Jessibella.
"Jessie made the cut, that's our girl!" James cheered.
"Well would ya look at dat, guess she can maybe win after all." Meowth said.
"Phew, May's in." Max sighs in relief.
"Yeah but so is Harley." Ash said.
The computer selects the opponents for each coordinator randomly. Harley was battling Jessibela and May was paired up with a random contestant.
"Alright Squirtle we're in the 4th battle. Let's work hard and win." May said.
"Squirtle." Squirtle nods.
"Ha, please you and that luck of yours are about to run out. I doubt we'll even face each other." Harley mocks.
"Save it Harley I'm not scared of you one bit." May glares.
"No way!" They looked and see a completely bandaged individual confronting them. "I may have been Cacnea's pin cushion, but I'm the one going to be taking home that ribbon!"
"Oh dear and who are you?" Harley asks as both he and May flinch surprised.
"Who am I?" Taking off the bandages we see it was Jessibella. "I am the Empress Coordinator Jessibella!"
"Ah so you're my next opponent, or shall I say next victim?" Harley smirked.
"We'll see who the victim is." Jessibella said.
"And after that..."
"I'm coming for you." Both Harley and Jessibella point to May.
"Yeah well good luck, cuz you're both going down." May said accepting the challenge.
Now it was time for round 2 of the contest. Harley vs Jessibella.
"Go my cool Ariados!" Harley said calling out the same Pokemon from his battle with Ash.
"There it is." Ash glares.
"I knew he'd use that Pokemon." May glares.
"Let's go Wobbuffet!" Jessibella said calling out the Patient Pokemon.
"Wobbu." Wobbuffet said surprising everyone.
Since Wobbuffet was known to send its opponent's attack right back at them, it couldn't attack. "I know what she's up to." Harley said as he and Ariados just stood still.
"Coordinators the clock is ticking." Lillian said as both teams just stood there.
"Come on already! Attack me!" Jessibella calls out.
"I'm not falling for that one. Not a chance!" Harley calls out.
"You both leave me no choice, I'm issuing you both a yellow card." Lillian said as both their points are cut in half.
"What?!" Both shouted at the same time.
The yellow card, most noticeably used in soccer when the player broke one of the rules, while here not doing anything counts in that as well. Another one of them, can automatically disqualify both of them.
"What do you want me to do? He's just standing there like a statue!" Jessibella points.
"At least I'm not going around calling myself a phony empress!" Harley points.
"Well at least I don't have a mushroom for a head! What are you an old Mario character reject?!" Jessibella yells.
"I've heard enough! I have no choice, but to give you bo-"
"Alright, alright I'll attack her!" Hearing Harley giving in, Lillian grew a satisfied grin.
"Wait who said my attacks have to be offensive? Ariados String Shot!" Harley said
"Wobbuffet Counter!" Wobbuffet glows ready to deflect but ends up getting tied up by String Shot like a puppet.
"Mirror Coat and Counter won't work against defensive attacks! Ariados! Time to play!" Ariados then manipulates Wobbuffet like a puppet with its attached strings, as points are gradually deducted from Jessie's score.
"What an interesting attack." Nurse Joy said.
"Remarkable." Mr. Suziko said.
"Since String Shot is a defensive attack Counter and Mirror Coat won't work." Max said as Harley made Wobbuffet do the hokey pokey.
The crowd begins to laugh at the puppet show on display, which is ended when Ariados tosses Wobbuffet.
"And just like that Jessibella is completely out of points! The winner is Harley!" Lillian declares.
"I lost..." Jessibella said fainting again. As did James and Meowth.
The next rounds went by quickly as May and Squirtle defeated all their opponents while Harley and Ariados did the same resulting in them meeting in the finals.
"And now! It all comes down to these two last coordinators! May from Petalburg City and Harley from Slateport City! Who will take home the Saffron Context Ribbon?!"
"Squirtle take the stage!"
"Come on my cool Ariados! String Shot!" Upon release Ariados fires a web to swing in from above. "Now Scary Face!"
Squirtle was frightened as he tumbles backwards. "Its OK Squirtle, use Ice Beam!", but it was so powerful that it misses its mark and knocks Squirtle onto its back.
"Oh no what happened?" Max gasps.
"It appears May doesn't have Ice Beam fully under control just yet." Brock said.
"Ha! Should've used Combusken, Fire beats Bug but nooo." Harley mocked.
"Come on Squirtle, get back up!" May said, but Squirtle was immobilized on his back.
"Here let me help, Ariados! String Shot!" Ariados then retracts up to the ceiling and shoots another String Shot onto Squirtle's body, reeling it in and deducting more of May's points.
"How are they going to get out of this?" Brock asks.
"Now Spider Web!" Harley said turning the whole field into a giant web before throwing Squirtle down onto a web.
"What do I do?" May gulps as Ariados charges in.
Pausing Ash gets an idea and stands up. "May! Remember when Harley's Ariados had my Phanpy trapped in his webs!" Ash calls out.
Hearing this May gasps remembering what he did. "Squirtle Ice Beam!" Firing Ice Beam the force not only freed Squirtle but ran along the webs freezing Ariados along with the webs.
Leading Harley's points to drop by more than half. "What?!" He shouts.
"Alright, she found a loophole!" Max cheers.
"Hitting Ariados along with the webs. You did that but with Ancient Power." Brock recalls looking to Ash, making him smile proud.
With Squirtle free, May was on the attack. "Now Bubble!" Squirtle runs and jumps onto the frozen web to hit Ariados with Bubble, shattering the ice and throwing Ariados backward.
"Ariados fight back!" Harley said as Ariados tried to get some footing but kept slipping on the icy webs.
"Now Squirtle Tackle!" May said as Squirtle slid down on the webs and rammed into Ariados sending it crashing to the ground with swirly eyes.
Squirtle neatly lands on its feet on top of Ariados. "Squirtle SquirtSquirtle!" He roared, with burning confidence.
"And it's a Knockout! Ariados can no longer continue, and with an impressive comeback, the winner of the Saffron City Pokémon Contest is May!" Lillian announced, making the audience roar with cheers.
"No! It can't be!" Harley gasps as May looks at him and smirks.
"Looks like you're a double loser Harley." May said as Harley storms out in anger.
"That'll teach him not to mess with her or you again." Max grins, loving this.
"But I got a bad hunch, he'll be back." Brock said.
"May can take him." Ash smiles.
Soon May was presented with the Saffron City ribbon and after the ceremony, she went out to meet everyone.
"Look at it guys, my first Kanto Ribbon." She smiles.
"I knew you could beat him." Ash said.
"Actually if it hadn't been for that tip of yours I don't think I would have." May admits.
"Well you bounced back and gotten payback anyway. So that's good." He said, proud of her.
"You do need to work on controlling that Ice Beam though." Brock points out.
"I know and now that I'm here I'm gonna do some new catching and come up with new attacks and combintionations. I want to be the best I can be." May declares.
"I hear ya, same with me." Ash nods. "Next up, is the Battle Arena."
"Pika!" Pikachu said pumped for it, but suddenly he was lifted off of Ash's shoulder. "Pi?"
"Pikachu!" Ash gasps as Pikachu floated in the air.
"What's going on?" Max gasps when suddenly he was lifted into the air alongside him.
"Max?! May gasped.
"May! Why am I flying?!" Max screamed.
Suddenly a laughing Gengar appears being the reason Max and Pikachu were flying.
"Gengar." Gengar laughs.
"A Gengar?" Brock gasps.
"Gengar?" Ash pauses.
"It's been a long time Ash Ketchum." Turning around Ash sees a teenage girl with long dark green hair staring at him. She wears a red and black dress with yellow cuffs over black tights/leggings, white gloves and red and yellow knee-high boots.
His eyes widened in surprise as he stuttered the name, "S-S-Sabrina?"
"Sabrina?!" Brock eyes widened.
"Sabrina?" May and Max said totally lost on who was this girl.
"Wait a minute, does that mean?" Ash looks to the Gengar and recognizes that laughter and funantics. "Haunter? Is that you?"
"Gengar!" It replied with a wide grin.
Flying in Gengar pulls Ash into a big hug causing him to laugh.
"I don't believe it! You evolved?!" Ash smiles.
"Right after you left Haunter to me he evolved." Sabrina said walking over and immediately Brock flinches in defense.
"Brock why aren't you going gaga like you always do?" Max asked, seeing him afraid.
"It's..b-because.." He stutters, can't getting the right words out.
"Let's just say last time Sabrina and I met things were pretty messy..." Ash said
"Don't worry Brock I'm done with the whole doll thing." Sabrina said.
"Doll?" May asked.
"You must be May and Max?" Sabrina asked turning to them, as they gave her shocked looks.
"Y-yeah, but we never gave you our names." May said.
"I knew it beforehand once you all arrived here." She said, getting more weirded looks. "I believe I should introduce myself. My name is Sabrina, and I am the Gym Leader of Saffron City." She introduced herself.
"Uh thanks but uh I'm not here for a gym battle." May said.
"I know you're not, you came for the contest." Sabrina said turning to Ash. "I came to see you Ash."
"Me?" Ash said surprised.
What a shocker. Right when May won her first contest ribbon, they were visited by none other than Sabrina, an individual from Ash and Brock's past. Why has she come to them and what could she want with Ash? Stay tuned.

Hope you you guys enjoyed the new chapter. Surprised I brought in AJ? Had Ash beat Harley AND brought in Sabrina in the end? It's what I thought should've happened in the BF anime. They should've shown some landmarks from Kanto to really promote FRLG and us seeing some old faces from from the first season of Pokémon. Next chapter though, it'll be very interesting surprise.

So how did everyone thought of the Dawn 2-parter? Was it nice? Underwhelming? Good? Bad? To me, it was OK. 2nd part was a little iffy however. But it was great to have some Chloe development and seeing Dawn again. I wished we'd seen a Contest or see some of Dawn's other Pokémon. But oh well, they're doing their best with the new series.
Also another childhood VA has passed away recently, Thea White, the voice of Muriel Bagge from Courage the Cowardly Dog has passed away on July 31st. RIP, I loved the show and your voice. May you forever be in our hearts.
1 more thing before I go, I'm not giving Ash Meowzie the Meowth. I don't even know where she even is in the anime. So I must kindly ask the guest to stop asking me in my stories. Thank you.
