A Sad Boy in a Tree house

Chapter 43

Final Hour

*Brz..z..zz..*

"Just a little more!"

"Hrngg!"

*zz..ZZZ* *click*

The frosty door unlocked, being knocked down by Ojiro's tail and breaking onto the floor. The teens stayed outside, peering through the entrance and discovering what lay beyond their obstacle. Unfortunately, there was no light to guide them anymore.

"Whey~" Kaminari's voiced wheezed out, something falling to the floor.

"Ouch!" Izuku winced.

"What happened?" Nejire inquired immediately, igniting her quirk around her hand to see the Time Lord bent over and rubbing his hand next to his sonic screwdriver.

"Sorry." Sero said, taking a couple steps back. "Didn't mean to step on your hand."

"It's alright." Izuku picked up his useless tool, stuffing it into his pocket. "Nejire, would you light the way?"

"Roger that!" She put some more juice into her spirals, lighting up a small library with cabinets and a wide desk sitting in the center with an empty seat behind it.

"My father's study?" Momo stepped forward, looking up at a portrait of her parents and a younger version of herself.

"How can books take so much energy?" Ochaco asked, running her fingers over one of the spines.

"Good question!" Nejire jumped up to Izuku.

"Books don't take anything besides time to read, and space to store." Izuku began, knocking his finger against the bookshelves as he paced around the room. "They're generous, always giving stories, experience from others, entire worlds even to explore."

"Are you saying that books are causing a blackout across the city?" Jiro asked with an eyebrow raised. "I'm also not sure about the whole world wide situation, or the universe."

"I think he was exaggerating." Mina looked between the Time Lord and the others. "Right?"

"I..don't think so." Hagakure huddled her poncho closer around herself. "There's...a lot more to things than you realize."

"You've gotta be kidding me." Ojiro slapped his hand against his forehead. "If anybody brings up aliens I'm leaving."

"Then leave." Ochaco interrupted. "If that's where you draw the line then walk away, because it's right in front of you."

"Then why did you?" Nejire cut in, Ochaco turning to her for clarification.

"What do you mean?" The brunette asked with a low tone.

"It was right there!" Throwing her hands in the air, her quirk flared with her emotions. "The chance to go and see it all again! The adventures! The aliens! All those planets and stars and people all across space and time!"

"I never gave it up!" Ochaco roared back. "I never walked away! I was left with no memories, and somehow I was still obsessed so much with it every night I dreamed I was back out there with my best friend! But he's gone!"

"He's right here!" Nejire pointed straight towards Izuku. "He never stopped trying to find a way to get your memories back! And now you have, and he's here!"

"That's not Izuku!"

"Yes he is!"

"SILENCE!" Momo commanded. "Neither of you are making any sense whatsoever! Even if Izuku's book analogy was incredibly loose to interpretation and more so philosophical, at least he stuck to the point of how energy on multiple forms is being drained from everything around us in my own home!"

Everyone was stumped, the only noise being the huffing of the tallest girl as a tear fell from her eye and froze immediately on the floor.

"Found it." Izuku knocked right below the portrait.

"Hold on!" Mina shouted. "They're literally arguing about you! Aren't you going to say something about that?"

"Two cute girls arguing over you?" Sero laughed to himself. "I wish I had that problem."

Jiro nearly stabbed him, until Kaminari slumped over in her arms. "Denki, Denki?!"

"People are in danger." Izuku stated as he ran his fingers around the wood seams. "I know feelings are hurt, there's a lot of confusion, but have any of you bothered to question why we haven't run into anyone?"

Silence, only brief muttering from Jiro. "I..know I heard some people earlier but now that you mention it...I haven't heard anyone in a while."

"My family.." Momo muttered. "Where..what's happening?"

"Time to find out." Izuku's finger pushed into a random section of the wall, a door revealing itself to them with the portrait hanging on it. A rush of freezing air rushed across their skin and bled into their bones. All of them but the Time Lord began to shiver, unable to keep themselves as warm as before.

Just behind the door was an elevator shaft, currently empty with only a cable present. Izuku rapped his fingers against the frozen metal, a crack running through the material. "Nejrie, you're going to guide our descent. Ochaco, eliminate our gravity. Sero, give us a strip of tape to connect us three, Hagakure, and Ashido. Jiro, I need you to stay up here with Kaminari and Ojiro."

"Why do we need to be up here?" Jiro questioned.

"You are our best bet to signal for help if it's available, and you can listen to what's happening down there." Izuku pointed towards the empty shaft. "Also, you need some bodies up here to stay warm. Huddle together, stay safe, good luck."

"Hey." Sero rose his hand sheepishly. "If the cuddle fest is happening up here..then-"

"-Just make the stupid tape already!" Hagakure slapped him. "I'll cuddle with you later as a reward!"

"Hot DAMN alright!" Sero immediately dispensed a strip, Ochaco already patting people's arms to disable their gravity.

Nejire flew forward, her golden spirals lighting up the vertical hall as everyone else held tightly to the tape.

"This is..Brrr." Mina's teeth chattered as they descended further and further.

"How are you not freezing?" Momo asked Izuku.

"He has a lower body temperature." Nejire answered on behalf of the Time Lord. "It's so nice, like hugging the cold side of your pillow when it's hot out but still warm enough when it's cold out."

"Let's not talk about cuddling." Ochaco sighed.

"Uh, how about we do?" Sero then looked, or tried to look towards Toru's direction. "I wanna know all the details on how we're gonna do this."

"Let's not die first." Mina whimpered as the temperature continued to drop. A white light was at the bottom of the pit, growing brighter as they came closer. Nejire flipped to have her feet forward, letting out a brief blast of her quirk to stop their free fall.

Once their feet touched down, Ochaco tapped her fingers to release them all from her quirk. All of them could hardly think, the bitter cold chewing at their flesh. Toru and Mina found themselves gravitated towards the nearest source of warmth, their arms wrapping around a now very happy Sero.

"Hot DAMN!" His teeth chattered as he couldn't help but smile, his mind completely occupied with the girls.

Izuku stepped forward, towards the light, his shadow being casted across the room. "I thought this had been taken care of, that's what The Doctor said."

"Do you mean.." Ochaco came forward, staring at the light. " ..you showed up?"

"What is it?" Nejire asked, staring at the ghostly white source.

What laid against the wall of the room was a splinter, a break, cracks in a spider web pattern of bright energy reaching out. There were two metal contraptions standing beside it, wires and cables running to dark machinery that encircled the walls of the room.

"A crack." Izuku looked above, seeing Torchwood printed over the source. Ochaco saw what he was looking at, scowling at the alien harvesting company that stole her memories. "It isn't even a part of the wall, if you knock down the wall the crack will stay in the same place."

The Time Lord squatted right in front of it, his eyes peering through the splinters stretching from the center. "Usually a crack is when two pieces of space that should never have touched are pressed together, but this is a shatter point. Something broke through the walls of reality and fractured there and here when they did it. But, which side did it originate from, and which side is it on now?"

"Father, Mother!" Momo screamed out, running to a huddled group of bodies in the corner of the room. In the center of them were her parents, their hair and skin covered in frost alongside the scientists and engineers around them.

Izuku ran towards the group, checking their pulse and putting his fingers against their temples. "They're alive, just sleeping."

"They shouldn't be sleeping in these conditions!" Momo pulled up her shirt, her quirk lighting up the area as she made a thick blanket. It began to dim, Momo's eyes beginning to droop. "I..need to-"

"Stop." Izuku grabbed her shoulders, laying her down as she continued to shiver. "We're so close to the source that no energy is safe."

"Wwwwhat's ccccausing this?" She muttered, her shaky breath releasing more heat from her body.

"The shatter point." Izuku gestured to the machinery around him. "Was probably used as a power source. It went wrong, and instead of siphoning energy from the shatter point it's doing the opposite. If we don't fix this, that shatterpoint becomes a black hole."

"How are we supposed to stop a black hole?!" Hagakure screamed.

"Iiiit's cold yeah." Sero shivered. "Bbbbut ttthat shouldn't ccccause a black hole."

"It will." Izuku walked up to one of the towers of controls, prying open a panel to check inside of it. "Unless we stop it. Ochaco, I need you to use your quirk on those cables running to the diffraction modules next to the shatter point. It will temporarily stabilize the collapse enough to let us have some power to operate the-"

"Ok!" Ochaco threw her hands up, walking over to the cables. With a touch of her quirk, the lights began to flicker back in the room, the computers booting up.

Hagakure, Sero, and Mina collapsed to the ground. All of them enjoying the warmth of one another as their relief took them into a deep sleep.

Izuku began to type away, finding everything he could on this operation while simultaneously trying to prevent the universe from being destroyed.

"Why is Torchwood involved?" Ochaco demanded. "They were making quirks and stealing memories right? What does this have to do with all of this?!"

The Time Lord didn't have an answer, until he came across a very particular reading that emanated from the shatter point. "Your world has stolen the children of millions more and continues to do so. It's grasp on the universe pulls all of existence into its grasp."

"...what the hell is that supposed to mean?" The brunette folded her arms, deeply disturbed by what the boy revealed.

"Wait, the mirror people said that!" Nejire shouted.

"They knew." He replied, his eyes darting back and forth as he continued to read every line of text. "This...it was here centuries ago. It was funneling the potential energy from so many star systems including...unborn."

"That's...really creepy."

"Think about it." Izuku walked over to another control box, flipping switches as he explained. "The original quirks were made from the DNA of foreign life forms, the shatterpoint was absorbing all forms of energy, including potential and biological and funneling it to this side. All the worlds, the worlds that exist on the other side of this shatter point, their species and their traits are being taken into this point and thrown into the world as an undetectable frequency of Hawking radiation, not really called that but whatever, and then flooding this planet to the point where each generation is born with a random wave of whatever world was absorbed."

"Huh?" Both the girls seemed utterly confused.

"This is where the entire world of quirks came from!" Izuku announced with glee and horror. "Potential aliens get absorbed on one end, and the people on this world absorb them and manifest their qualities as quirks! No wonder Torchwood was involved. They probably designed this whole place and got funding from the Yaoyorozus.'"

"If we stop this." Ochaco gazed back to the shatterpoint. "Then..quirks won't be a thing anymore?"

Quirks, they were pretty much everything that their world had revolved around for the last few centuries. Humanity nearly collapsed when they came into their lives, could the planet really survive another shift that drastic?

"It, could go two ways.." Izuku admitted. "Either the external source that is fueling quirks immediately turns everyone into the equivalent of quirkless besides odd mutations, or everyone retains their quirks and they simply fade over time through the generations. But that's the choice."

"Either we end quirks, or the universe gets ripped apart by a blackhole splitting it in half."

The Time lord watched as the two of them processed the consequences. There wasn't really a choice, but it wasn't easy to make.

"How do we stop this?" Nejire finally spoke.

Izuku typed a few things on the screen, holding his finger over the last button. "I just need to hit the command code to reverse the-"

Ochaco slumped forward, the machines flickering as the lights grew increasingly dim.

"No!" Izuku ran to the fallen girl, Ochaco grabbing her stomach as she tossed and turned on the floor.

"What's happening?!" Nejire stepped to look over her, everything becoming chaos around them.

"The shatterpoint's absorption rate is increasing!" Izuku began to panic, looking between her and the crack in the universe. "Her quirk is the only thing keeping us alive right now but it's killing her!"

He picked her up, putting her in Nejire's arms as he tried to hit the enter key. "Dammit! Without a stable flow of energy we can't shut it down!"

"Can't we use the TARDIS?"

"No time!" Izuku ran up to one of the control boxes, ripping out a cable and dismantling it by hand. "I'm going to have to manually set up a folding sequence in order to patch the shatterpoint. No computers, no screwdriver, and no power!"

He twisted the wires, using his own mouth to separate or cut them as he grabbed whatever he could to assemble a crude contraption with two handles. "That's alright, I just need one of those things and I got it."

His tone of voice had shifted, enough to worry Nejire about what he was thinking. "Where are you getting the power?"

"I can convert my own vitality in order to jumpstart the process." Twisting two more cables together, a few of the arms around the shatterpoint sparked. "It's ok, it won't take up much."

One of the control boxes exploded, the flames quickly absorbed by the spacial crack.

"Nevermind, it's going to take up a lot." Izuku muttered, working faster as everything began to shake.

Nejire watched, helpless as Izuku continued to work. "What about me? Why can't I do it? My quirk is made to channel vitality."

Izuku ignored her, needing to get this done in order to stop the universe and more importantly everyone who lived in it from dying.

"Izuku." ochaco whimpered from Nejire's arms. "Please, you don't have to do it. Not again."

"Sacrificing you wasn't an option." Izuku muttered with an irrefutable stance. He then looked up at Nejire, the blue haired teen seeing such sad, sad eyes. "And neither are you."

Nejire's hands tightened around Ochaco's grasp, her heart breaking over what he just decided without even talking to her. No,nononono she didn't like this. This isn't how things were supposed to go.

"There we go." Izuku muttered, grabbing the handles of the contraption. "All done."

"That will fix this right?" Nejire asked, resting Ochaco on the ground.

"Yes." Izuku tightened his grip on the handles, bracing himself for the device to drain him. "Once Ochaco's quirk gives the cables will redirect my energy towards the converters and into the polarity drives, closing the shatterpoint."

"Izuku."

He looked her in the eyes, his hearts cracking as he saw her frown.

"You, were so kind to me. A stranger who went so far just to save me. Don't change that, don't ever stop being kind."

"You won't have to worry about that." Izuku assured her, in his own twisted way. "I won't have anything left in me to regenerate."

"I'm sorry." The girl sniffed, wiping the building tears from her eyes.

"Don't be." Izuku gave her one last smile. "This is my life, my choice. I just wished I could have spent it longer with you."

"I, wish we had more time together."

Nodding in acceptance, Izuku stared ahead at his demise, the shatterpoint that was going to rip him apart molecule by molecule. "I do too." He admitted.

Nejire came up to his side, hugging him tightly knowing it would be the last time. "Tell Dreamy I love her."

His head was throbbing, everything was dark and there were muffled noises around him. Izuku clutched his head trying to ease the pain that echoed through his mind. What was he doing here? Where was here?

Snapping his eyes open, the memories came flooding back. The shatterpoint, Ochaco, Momo, Hagakure, Mina, Sero.."Nejire!"

Pushing himself up off the ground, he scanned the people who were around him. Sero, Mina, and Hagakure were shifting as they woke up. Momo alongside her parents and the scientists were beginning to stir.

Ochaco, was already standing up and thinking the same thing.

"Where is she?"

Izuku's body scrambled as he crawled towards the contraption he made, freezing as his hands hovered over the scorch marks on them. He followed the cables, leading to the machine that was now inactive. No visible shatterpoint, no blackhole.

It was done.

"Izuku." Ochaco came closer, standing right next to him. "Where is she?"

"Can you use your quirk?" His emotionless voice asked.

Curious about the question, Ochaco tried it on a piece of metal next to her. Sure enough, it floated. "Yeah..guess quirks are still a thing for now."

"Good, you'll need it to get everyone out of here." He stood up, holding out his hand. Wordlessly, Ochaco tapped him to make him weightless.

"What's the plan now?"

With no response to her question, Izuku jumped up the elevator shaft.

"Ugh, I don't feel very good." Mina grumbled as she sat up.

"Yeah, me neither." Toru agreed, pulling up Sero.

"Where did Midoriya go?" Momo inquired, helping her mother onto her feet. "There's many questions I feel my family and I need to discuss and his actions did-"

Ochcaco tapped herself, leaping up the elevator shaft to chase after him. He was running away, something was wrong and he couldn't stay here. From what she last remembered before passing out, Izuku was about to do it. Give his life up so they could live.

It was stupid.

It was selfish.

It was exactly what he did before.

The last of her doubts now driven away, Ochaco deactivated her quirk once she exited the doorway with a still sleeping Jiro, Kaminari, and Ojiro laying next to it and sprinted through the empty but now lit house. Only a few turns before she got to the front doors which were already open. Sprinting outside in the cold night air, she saw the lights of the city shining brightly.

One particular light stood out, a window on a tree that sat just outside the property with a tree-house tucked in its branches. A lone figure was walking straight towards it.

"Izuku!" She called out while still running towards him.

He paused, halfway in the TARDIS with his back towards her. The interior lights of the time machine contrasting the shadow that stood in front of it.

"I, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." Huffing as she caught her breath, she rebuilt her confidence that was needed weeks ago. "We need to talk, there's a lot I don't get but...I know it's you now. I'm ready to hear you out."

"...It can wait." He slipped inside before she could get another word out. The TARDIS letting out a thudding noise as the engines whirred.

*Vwoorp* *VWOoorp* *VWOOORP* *VWOORP*

Her hair whipped around her face as the tree-house vanished from her sight, leaving the girl behind once again.

Izuku stood at the controls, mutely staring at the screen as the engines took him somewhere, anywhere. Just away. His thoughts were muddled, broken, scrambled and throwing themselves back together as he couldn't think straight. All he wanted, was her. But she wasn't here, and he couldn't accept that fact.

It didn't feel real, he knew it was but he just couldn't believe it ended that soon.

The Time Lord began typing away at the computer, pulling up a security recording that the TARDIS always had of the console room. Two holograms were displayed, Izuku and Nejire each in their casual attire in one another's arms. The image was unmoving, until with a click of a button they began to dance to music.

When Somebody Loves You

By Frank Sinatra

"When somebody loves you, you feel it in your heart. When somebody loves you, you know it from the start. Every kiss becomes more than a kiss. Each look, each touch, they mean so much. And that's when you discover how it feels to be a lover"

He just stared at the two of them, spinning around the console room and staring lovingly at each other. They were so happy, so content to just be together.

"When somebody loves you, it shows in every smile. When somebody loves you, your life becomes worthwhile"

"Izuku?" Dreamy came from the corridor. The Time Lord turned towards her, no emotions perceivable on his face. "Where's, Nejire?"

He didn't answer, just looked back to the dancing holograms of himself and Nejire as they swayed with one another.

"Always caring, always sharing everything you do. When somebody loves you like I love you"

"Gone." Izuku finally answered. "She's gone, and she wanted you to know she loved you."

The Dreamer, looked at the TARDIS, and heard the lyrics being sung by the machine.

"When somebody loves you, it shows in every smile. When somebody loves you, your life becomes worthwhile"

Hearing the words in person, they sounded full of happiness and joy. Yet now, she heard the TARDIS sing them with a sad, sad tone. Her eyes drooped to the floor, walking away as she left Izuku alone with the recording of himself, and Nejire.

The Time Lord watched them slow down, gazing lovingly at one another's eyes.

"Always caring, always sharing everything you do."

They kissed, everything right in the world right in front of Izuku.

"When somebody loves you like I love you."

Gone forever.

Nejire is dead, officially. We now see why the TARDIS was so sad, what had been taking energy from so many things, and how the world of quirks came to be. Ochaco is now ready and reaching out to Izuku, but unfortunately the boy is not in the mood to talk.

How will our Time Lord move on?

Harleking31: Was your prediction correct? Also, The Doctor is in his original universe and so is The Master. We won't be seeing them later in the series.

I don't own anything except a bunch of Egg Nog
