I don't own Hetalia okay? I honestly don't have much to say on this one so enough of the A/N, on with the fic!
"Well, I guess I should call Mum and Papa…." Alfred sighed as Natalya smiled at him.
"You promised to not tell them what you were told by your brother." Natalya reminded him.
"I know; I should tell Matt or Julia to get a picture because Papa can be so overdramatic sometimes." Alfred smiled. "And from what I heard about Julia's father, I can't see anything shocking him. May get a call that Pops is in a hospital in France from a heart attack."
"Well what would they do when the time comes with us?" Natalya said.
"For some reason I think you'd handle delivery a lot better than Julia." Alfred said as he dialed his parents.
"Oh hello Alfred." Alice said as she picked up the phone. "How has your Christmas been?"
"Just fine Mum…." Alfred said.
"And how is Natalya doing?"
"I am doing just well myself Ms. Kirkland." Natalya replied, knowing just how Alice was with her husband. Would never have taken his last name, nor even hyphenated like she did with Alfred's name.
"Well your father is in the kitchen making dessert," Alice said as Alfred laughed. It was well known in the family that Francis would never allow Alice to handle cooking for special occasions and Natalya could not blame the man. She had Alice's cooking when Alfred first introduced her to his parents and it was a rather unfortunate burned mess that food at the hospital was much better.
"Is that Alfred mon Cherie?" Francis said as he ran out of the kitchen and to the phone. "How are you my dear boy and how is your lovely wife?"
"Fine." Alfred blushed. "Just wanted to say Merry Christmas before I have to get dinner started. Natalya's brother is over for the holiday and well…."
"Oh, I do hope you act better towards him than you did at your wedding." Alice scolded.
"Mom!" Alfred moaned. "He started it. That was my wedding tux and it was expensive!"
"It was just vodka! That would at worst leave a smell." Alice said. "No need to smash half the cake in his face! That was supposed to be the best day of Natalya's life and you two acting like children obviously did not leave a good impression on her."
"Ms. Kirkland, I should have known something was going to happen between those two that day. But I am happy to report that if nothing else the spirt of the holiday has those two acting, well more mature than that. There are still slightly condescending remarks and insults but if that is as bad as it gets, I am happy." Natalya said. "It is highly unrealistic to expect them to get along perfectly. I am coming to terms with that."
"I had still raised him to act better than that." Alice scolded.
"My mother had as well. My sister had to tell him to not object based on as I quote 'thinking the groom is an idiot'" Natalya said as Alfred rolled his eyes.
"Well if I am to be honest, my wedding to Francis had a few incidents that I would care to forget. Like my older brother Allistor partaking too much and then Francis' parents learning the hard way that the saying of Scotsmen not wearing anything under their kilts was true…." Alice said.
"So cake fights and spilled vodka isn't that bad." Natalya said.
"The dry cleaning bill was on that tux though…." Alfred pouted.
"Oh your father wants me to ask, when are you two going to make us grandparents?" Alice asked.
Alfred and Natalya's eyes grew wide. "Uhhhhhhhhhh" They both said.
"What brings up the interest Mom?" Alfred asked blushing. Had Mattie or Julia called them yet? Matt said he was saving it to tell them when they were in Paris but knowing Julia…
"Oh the other day your father and I were in a café with other couples our age and they were showing us pictures and well, I was feeling rather left out. Your father is scared of the idea because that will really make him old in his mind. Not his age, not the fact he uses more hair dye than I do, not the fact our sons are grown and have lives of their own, it is that." Alice said. "But I frankly cannot wait for the prospect myself and I am especially curious of how your children would turn out Alfred."
"Me?" Alfred bushed as he could see Natalya giggling. "I mean they'd be blonde, I mean look at Nattie and me…. It's Mattie and Julia I'd be more curious about…."
"Not appearances. Although as your mother I think whatever children you have would be beautiful," Alice scolded. "But I think the child would certainly have an interesting upbringing between you and Natalya. Alfred would be the fun loving father figure and you would be the stern but loving matron Natalya." Alice paused. "I guess it is true what they say, men go for women like their mothers."
"Only Natalya can cook better than you, on Cherie" Francis said. "Merry Christmas you two but I hope you do not mind me taking your mother for the evening but I had not brought her all the way to Paris, the city of love for her to talk to her son all night."
Alfred stuck his tongue out knowing well what his father was talking about. "Well I guess I have to get started on our Christmas dinner. Nattie's brother won't shut up about it."
"Well I won't keep you." Francis said. "But it is important my son, that you let your lady know she is loved no matter how old you get."
"I know Papa…." Alfred sighed as he hung up.
"Why did you hang up?" Natalya asked.
"It was only going to get more awkward from there." Alfred sighed.
"Well I clearly see where you learned how to charm a girl." Natalya smiled kissing Alfred on the cheek.
"I am not that bad." Alfred said as they headed out of his office.
"You take your ideas for dates from bad romance movies." Natalya said.
"Well I got work to do." Alfred smiled as he headed into the kitchen to start making the turkey to see a large punch bowl was placed on a counter in the corner. "Dude, what's this?" Alfred asked
"Oh that's sbiten a kind of holiday wine drink. I got the things recently while you were talking with your family on the phone. A few stores in this city were still open and I was able to get everything to keep it warm too."
"Well that shouldn't surprise me. You wander around this city; you're going to get lost." Alfred said. I hope you get lost. He thought to himself as he looked over back at Ivan.
"Oh are you two heading to Times Square this year for New Year's?" Ivan asked with a blush as Alfred got himself a glass of the mulled wine.
"This stuff isn't that bad…. very sweet…." Alfred noted as Ivan smiled at the praise of his work. "But yeah I like taking Nattie there, always a fun way to ring in the New Year. Why?"
"Ummmmm…" Ivan was blushing and Alfred looked at him curiously when Natalya noticed the wine and her brother blushing like a schoolgirl.
"Are you feeling well big brother?" Natalya asked.
"While I was at the store I met someone who had asked me to come with her to the celebration." Ivan blushed as Alfred started to giggle, despite Natalya stepping on his foot.
"Well that is very nice." Natalya said. "Isn't that right Fredka?" She asked as she jabbed him in the ribs.
"OOOooooooowwwwwchhh!" Alfred moaned as he bent over in paid. "Why did you do that?"
"I asked," Natalya continued as if nothing was done. "Is it nice that big brother had someone ask him to the new year's celebration, is it not?"
"Yeah…." Alfred winced. "That's cool dude. So you want us to stay home to not embarrass you? Ouch…." he moaned as he got back up to get ready to make the turkey. "You hit pretty hard Nattie…."
"Not exactly…." Ivan blushed sinking his head into his scarf. "I think this girl is rather pretty but I don't know if I would want to be with her alone just yet and…."
"You would feel more comfortable with us as kind of how you say…. double date….?" Natalya asked. Ivan nodded. "Well Fredka and I would be delighted to help you out in that way wouldn't we?"
Alfred jumped up in surprise at what Natalya offered. Secretly he had hoped to not be with Ivan more than he had to. "Uhhhhhh sure dude." Alfred blushed.
"Thank you so much!" Ivan blushed. "She called me a big teddy bear."
"Well that is so sweet." Natalya smiled, showing happiness for her brother. "Isn't that right Fredka?" She looked over at Alfred.
"Yeah cool dude…." Alfred said wanting to make Natalya happy.
"I have to catch up on my reading." Ivan said. "I will be in the living room. It's so nice to have met someone who seems to think I am interesting and not scary at all."
"Yes you do that." Natalya said as she headed over to Alfred.
"I am thinking of basting the bird in some of this sbiten stuff…." Alfred said.
"Well that would be interesting to try." Natalya said. "Please try to be happy for big brother. It's not often he meets people. He may act like a jerk to you, and I am honestly trying to work with him on that, but he is actually very shy when it comes to meeting people and can get very lonely."
"But not like he's staying here forever…. wait is he? Did you not tell me something about his place in Russia or something?" Alfred panicked at the idea that Ivan would be staying longer than he was. Into the new year was rough enough on him. The idea that Ivan would stay longer because he didn't have anything back in Russia scared him. He would help to make Natalya happy but he could only put up with so much.
"No!" Natalya assured him. "He's still going back to Russia on the 7th but it would help him have some confidence and maybe meet someone he can be friends with at least, even if it is a long distance thing over the internet or something. Who knows they may actually fall in love and he won't bother you as much." Alfred looked at her as if he didn't believe her. "He will never admit it but I think part of the reason he gives you such a difficult time is that he is lonely himself and he misses me such. Even though he said I was too clingy to him growing up."
"I guess I'll take your word on it for why he is how he is. But now I am busy cooking." Alfred sighed.
"I'll see you later then." Natalya said kissing him on the cheek.
So how was that? Good? Bad? Short? Long? Let me know in a review. I don't know when I will be able to update again. Work, school and various projects for both make things hard to get what I like doing done. I don't have much to say other than remember to read (well you just did) and to review. Ciao for now,
