His first day went eventful. Especially after Rebekah tried to kill Elena Gilbert. It was nice knowing that even though Rebekah still intended to find the cure, she still cared about him. He had escorted Bonnie home. Funny enough, with Jeremy Gilbert. There was no sign of Shane. He didn't show his face in school. Yet. Despite what Bonnie said the best thing he could do was killing the deranged man at the first sight. Making sure that both hunter and the witch were safe and hadn't been bothered by anybody, he came home.
The Mikaelson mansion.
He saw Elijah's car in the front yard.
This will be interesting he thought and entered the mansion as quietly as he can be. Then he heard Elijah's voice.
'Are you sure it wasn't self-defense on Elena's part?' Kol held back a snort.
'When I found him, he was sprayed with vervain and screaming in agony. Those two imbeciles nearly daggered him, Elijah. He almost got burned in front of my eyes.'
Nik's voice was full of spite. Even though he made jokes about him getting killed by a newbie vampire and baby hunter, getting reminded of the fact that his brother nearly got killed still made him vengeful.
'And Miss Bennett and Miss Forbes informed you about the trap and helped you save him.'
Elijah's voice was almost full of disbelief.
'Somehow, no matter how unbelievable it is. Caroline was tired of the constant death and Bonnie believes Kol is right about all the Silas thing. The only reason I didn't hunt Gilberts down already. Have you returned from bodyguarding the Bennett witch, Kol?'
That is my cue, thought Kol. There was no hiding from Nik's hybrid ears. Kol innocently lifted his hands to the air.
'Ok. I was eavesdropping. And yes, I dropped the little witch home.'
'I was just talking about how you almost got yourself killed by a newbie vampire and a baby hunter.' Klaus said in a cheeky tone.
'Enough,' Kol said in a bored tone. 'Will you never let me out of it?'
His defeat made Klaus laugh. However, Elijah wasn't laughing. His eyes were piercing through him. Not condescendingly or angrily. Of concern.
'Are you alright, Kol?'
'Yes, Elijah. If you have listened to the voice mails I have sent you you would have known what is happening for three weeks.'
Why was he talking to him like a child?
'Rebekah told me about your thoughts about this Silas. How can you be so sure about his existence?'
Realization hit Kol.
'Wait. Do you think I am going nuts?!'
'Well, actually that was a possibility that I considered.' Klaus barged in.
'Rebekah told me what happened Kol. You have threatened to kill her in the fear of some being whom you are not sure that exists?'
So this was Rebekah's new game? Convincing everyone that he was crazy?
'That creepy Professor Shane who taught Bonnie expression admitted Silas is real. Silas was also mentioned in both our mother's and Ayana's grimoire. You never doubted my knowledge of witchcraft before! Is this a lame attempt to defend the Tatia look-alike?'
The mention of Tatia's name ignited something within Elijah. He harshly got up from the chair and stood only an inch away from Kol. Kol challenged him with his gaze. Klaus stood between them, ready to intervene.
'Don't mention Tatia ever again,' Elijah hissed. 'And don't you think I am willing to discard you like this. I would never let anyone use you as a ritual sacrifice.'
'No, but you let Nik discard me. Over a century.'
'The first time I let him dagger you, you intended on wait for Michael to murder you. It was suicide. The second time you could have killed each other.'
'Enough!' Klaus held his hands to shut them up. 'Perhaps you are right about getting sidelined, Kol. And I do mean that. There may still be a chance to make it up to you. We will start a new chapter. Now, I want us to have a toast. For understanding the worth of family.'
The intensity in the air cleared up a bit. And three brothers had toast.
...
Bonnie's phone buzzed. When she looked at her phone she saw two messages. One was from her dad.
Dad
Come home at 7 Pm, please. We are having a family meeting.
So formal. Just like her dad. It was like he was inviting an employer. The other text however was quite the opposite, she almost burst out laughing.
Kol:
What's up?
Bonnie tried to hold her smile. Kol was an original whose past was unknown to her. There were times she regretted building an alliance with him. Especially considering her fallout with Elena. Yet his upbeat attitude was making her feel better. She was almost becoming fond of him. She texted back.
Bonnie
Goodish . I have a family meeting.
Kol
Joy! Surely it would be better than mine.
Bonnie
Don't be so sure. What happened?
Kol
Rebecca tried to convince everyone that I was crazy.
Bonnie
She gaslighted you?
Kol
Gaslight ? Don't you people have lamps in this century? Is she supposed to burn me with it ?
Bonnie found herself chuckling.
Bonnie
Sorry XD It is a psychological term.
It means making someone question their senses or sanity.
Kol
Oh, yeah she did. My family gaslights me all the time :(
Any news on Shane?
Bonnie
Nothing yet.
…..
When her father texted her that they are having a family meeting, Bonnie thought things can't be worse. Guess she was wrong.
She thought there would be just her father and her but the doorbell rang and they had an unexpected visitor.
'Mom! What are you doing here?'
Her mother came in without asking for permission since she was already invited.
'You know exactly what I am doing here Bonnie Bennett. I told you to stay away from dark magic. And you got involved yourself with Silas?'
She turned to her dad. 'When did you have time to invite her in?'
'Honey, we are trying to protect you. I saw how Shane manipulated you in the interrogation room.'
'And I shut him off later. I won't let him use me again!'
Her mother gave her a questioning look.
'I am also aware of your companionship with wild original Kol Mikaelson, Bonnie.'
The word companionship struck Bonnie hard. Like Abby had implied that...
'There is no companionship! He just wants to help. I saw how much he fears Silas.'
'You are letting dark forces and vampires walk all over you. You must leave Mystic Falls Bonnie. If you don't you will be dragged to their dirty business. You started to look for the cure for Elena, didn't you?'
Leaving Mystic Falls? As if she could do that! Sometimes she wanted to but whenever she tried or even thought about it something pulled her back into Mystic Falls. Her friends, threats to her loved ones, prophetic dreams, or sometimes just her conscience. Knowing she had the power to stop whatever evil that is in the way and the responsibility to use it.
'Yes, at first,' Bonnie answered defeatedly 'But I am over it now. Looking for the cure for Elena was my decision and I know it was a mistake. Trusting Kol on this is my decision too. And nor you or some immortal can make the decision for me.'
Then her phone buzzed. She hoped that it wasn't Kol this time. Now was not right the time.
She thanked the gods that it was Caroline. But her relaxation didn't last long.
Sorry to bother you, Bonnie. I know you have a lot in your head. I saw Elena and Damon at the Nightclub, simply feeding on people just for fun. I am starting to think that leaving her with Damon is a huge mistake. But don't worry I got this. Love you XOXO
'Is that him?'
Bonnie didn't need to ask who she meant. Abby's voice was so spiteful and she almost said the word him like mentioning a disease. She silently wondered what Abby knew about Kol that made her hate him so much.
'No, it is just Caroline.' She answered and looked at the screen dully. But since she was distracted she didn't have time to react when Abby knocked her out.
Rudy made no effort to stop Abby while she was carrying Bonnie to the car yet his distress was evident.
'I am not okay with this Abby.'
'I am doing this for her, Rudy. After she gets cleansed from the dark magic inside her she can live her life away from here.'
...
Meanwhile, Kol Mikaelson was trying to decide whether to message Bonnie Bennett again. He had fun having a conversation with her and might as well start a new one by asking how her family dinner went.
Elijah noticed his demeanor.
'Are you expecting a word from Miss Bennett?'
'Sort of. I helped her to control her magic today. But she is having a family dinner tonight. A change in her mood can turn things upside down. I wonder how it went.'
His concern for the witch surprised Elijah. He put a hand on Kol's shoulder.
'You know Kol, I don't know whether Silas is real or not but it is good to see you like this.'
'Like what?'
'Responsible.'
