Love Death and Voidlings
Chapter 4
Riven stared at the ceiling with a frown on her face, she had to wait another two hours for everyone to settle into their beds and an additional twenty minutes just to make sure that everyone was asleep. Her eyes now adjusted to the darkness she turned around to see Kai'sa asleep her soft breaths barely audible. She had not thought about it before but now that she looked at her with more inquisitive eyes, Riven realized just how tired Kai'sa truly was.
As soon as her head hit the pillow she was out, just how long had she gone without sleep? A tinge of sympathy made its way into her heart, she had endured so many sleepless nights, the faces of the fallen showing themselves every time she closed her eyes and sleep wouldn't claim her until the exhaustion was too much. She missed her adoptive mother and father, but it was better this way, her being alone meant that there was no one she could drag down with her sins.
And that applied to right now, she slowly rose from the bed and tried to escape into the dead of the night, emphasis in tried because she only reached the main door when a hand on her shoulder stopped her "Sleep is not only for the dead you know"
Sett said making her stop in her tracks; Riven glared at him "What do you want?"
"My mom is gonna drill me tomorrow if you leave, would like to avoid that and plus… you should stay and eat breakfast at least; you got that look you know"
Riven tilted her head "What do you mean?" Sett let out a sigh and motioned her to follow him outside, they sat on the grass sorrunded by the flowers that Sett's mother had planted, just relaxing for a second, Riven enjoyed the cold breeze.
"You have that look that I have seen before, fighters in my arena have them from time to time you know, adrift waiting for death, if you plan to die at least you can die with a full stomach"
Riven let out a sigh "I won't die, not yet anyways, I need… to atone"
Sett turned to look at her fully with a raised eyebrow "How?"
"I… I am searching for my past, Noxus has planted seeds in Ionia, I will help to kill them before they bloom" Riven tilted her head at him "Noxians fought in your arena, do you not care about the war?"
"Countries don't exist in my mind, nor nationalities, if you are good at what you do you get a spot simple as that, if I get to picky money is lost"
"Is that all there is to you, money?" Riven didn't raise her voice, she was genuinely curious "No, money is just means to an end; let me put it this way gold is universal and that buys comfort, security and the ability to know that no one will mess with me or the one I care, that's the Boss's logic"
Riven smiled "So keeping mommy safe is what matters in the end"
"Only fair, she sacrificed a lot for me to be happy, she lost her tribe and Ionians are not very kind to someone who would have a kid with a noxian… no offense"
"None taken, I am not ashamed of my roots… but I am nor proud of them either I think I finally feel numb about everything I just really miss feeling like I belong"
"There will come a time for that, I am sure but for now" Sett said as he stood up and cracked his neck "Lets take care of our guests"
Riven tilted her head in confusion but stood up and unsheated her sword "They have been spying on us since we stepped outside, not many but it will be a bit of a bitch to take them out without noice" Sett said as he kicked dirt hard enough to hit the window of his home.
"Sister, we have come for you" a pale figure said as Riven glared and she steeled herself to face the ghosts she refered to before "Arrel you tracked me down"
Arrel let out a chuckle devoid of happiness "We have run to much sister… too far from home but now we have you and with you the chance to return home"
"You hold the greatest gift a warrior could want Riven and you hide it like a coward" Marit the masked sister said and to her left Teneff the brutal nodded as she prepared her spiked weapon.
"This hunt ends now little sister"
"Yeah what they said" a squire named Erath said, Sett snorted at him. Seemed like he wasn't part of the family "Look I think is all cute that you chose to find your family and all but, you came to the wrong house to pick a fight" Sett said finally making his presence know.
"The leader of the fighting arenas" Arrel said as she motioned the squire to get closer to him, the squire did so and out of his pocket brought out a large coin bag shaking it to emphasize the quantity inside.
"We know how you work, we are sorry you got tangle with Noxian business, we offer this as compensation we will leave with our sister at once… we wouldn't want anything bad to happen to you or your loved ones"
Riven stared in shock as Sett grabbed the coin bag and tossed into the air weighting it "You noxians are not all that bad" he said as Riven looked away, another betrayal. But with another toss he slammed the bag into Arrel's face knocking him back "But you are not all that good either, I'm no dumbass you will just kill me later"
Arrel held his broken nose and let out a sigh "Told you"
"Enough we outnumber them, kill him and capture Riven" Teneff said angrily, Sett simply grinned as Riven looked at him with a small smile. "Don't mater that we are three to four we still win"
Sett said as Kai'Sa launched herself like a torpedo towards Teneff knocking the wind out of her "You threw dirt at me" she said to Sett sounding slightly upset to wich he replied with a small shrug.
Riven was paying them no mind as she engaged in battle with two of her sister "We slew thousands together Riven and you would throw all that for nothing!"
"You have not seen what I have seen… my beloved Sister" Riven said staring at them with sadness in her eyes. Sett stopped Kai'sa from interfering grabbing her shoulder as she prepared to cannonball herself again "Let's just beat up the small guy"
Kai'sa gave a nod as she launched herself at Arrel who was trying to sneak attack them, Arrel only had time to curse as a purple glow launched itself at him but call it luck or call it mastery he managed to jump out of the way in time and he brought down his weapon.
A lethal blow on any other opponent, but Kai'sa simply shrugged it off and kicked towards Sett, who grabbed him by the neck "Any last words"
"I… I really hated this fucking job" Arrel said with a smirk making Sett laugh as he slammed him to the ground. Arrel groaned as he passed out, Kai'sa moved next to Sett and tilted her head "Some guys just get the short end of the stick when it comes to life but dammit they work with what they have"
Riven pushed both of her sisters back not bothering with talking anymore, with a brutal head-butt she pushed Teneff back and with the hilt of her blade she broke Marit's wrist. With a quick turn she assembled her sword, the green glow illuminated the three sisters as their little sister showed them just how out classed they where. Tennef tried to get back up but Marit stopped her and shook her head "We yield sister but Noxus won't, are you ready to see flames in ionian soil again sister?"
Riven turned to look back at Sett who was felxing his muscles o Kai'sa who poked at his bicep with a light blush, neither of them noticing how Arrel was leaving on a noxian beast.
Riven felt her sword shatter again, falling to the ground "Leave my sisters, there's nothing for you here in Ionia" Riven said as her sisters left and she made up her mind. She would return, give herself in to the empire that despised her, she had nothing left here either.
But Sett stopped her thoughts as "Hey, we have to talk. Those guys know where I live, so we better start thinking of an idea on what to do"
"I have a solution; you will take me to Noxus in chains"
A/N: Roadtrip to Noxus begins shortly. I'm wondering if I should include the sentinels of light event, after all Sett punching Viego sounds funny in my head. Thank you for reading!
