MY SOUL SAW YOU AND KIND OF WENT: "OH, THERE YOU ARE"

Was it wrong of Bella to be terrified but thrilled at the same time? How had she wanted to turn around but not at the same time? How her heart both raced with excitement but also fear?

Oh, Bella had never felt these strong emotions before. She knew she was an emotional person, but who could blame her? Her life felt as though it was a soap opera currently, and everyone was tuned in to see what would happen next for Bella Swan. First the dramatic pilot of the botched ear surgery, and now her first day at Forks High.

Taking a deep breath, Bella slowly turned around to see who these mysterious Cullens were. She hadn't expected to see how beautiful, inhuman they were or the golden irises they had.

The girls were the first ones to enter the cafeteria, one of them a quite tall blonde femme fatale.

With deep golden waves that fell down her midback, the girl reminded Bella of the Sports Illustrated models, or one of the America's Top Model contestants. She had more curves than Bella, but then again mostly all the girls had more curves than Bella and was dressed in a light gray, skin tight sweater with a stylish white pea coat over it and a darker gray scarf draped over her shoulders. Her jeans were obviously designer and her black heels reminded Bella of knives instead of actual heels. Her topaz eyes were even more noticeable due to the impressive eyeliner around her eyes, and the color of her hair.

The other girl was holding one of the blonde girl's hands, though she was barely above four feet in height. She was pixie like, thin in the extreme and had deep, dark cropped short hair that pointed out in all different types of directions. A deep navy-blue vest was above her white ruffled blouse. She had a navy-blue jacket in the crook one of her elbows, high end of course, but it was more in her arms as though it was just a second thought. Nothing she would wear of course.

"The blonde is Rosalie Hale, and the small one is Alice Cullen. They're dating, you can't see one without the other," Jessica whispered to Bella, enough she nodded her head.

They might look a little odd to some, but Bella couldn't help but smile. Especially when Alice held this kind of pride in her own golden eyes, as though she wanted everyone to know she was the one dating the hottest girl in school.

Two boys trailed after them, conversing easily with each other. From the golden eyes they had, it was obvious they were siblings with not only each other but with Rosalie and Alice too.

One of them was only an inch or two taller than Rosalie Hale, and he had the body type of an axman. He was dressed in a quarter length sleeved dark shirt, dark washed jeans, and big, almost clunky hunting boots. He had a mess of dark curls across his chiseled features, though he had an almost teddy bear essence about him. He was more of a lover than a fighter, though Bella was certain the teenager could make someone regret even being alive. His golden eyes were alive, content with everything around him.

The other guy was tall, slender. He had his hands stuffed into his jean pockets, and his eyes were focused on nothing at all, he had walked across this cafeteria multiple times. He didn't have to focus on everything and anything. His bronze hair fell in feathered layers, some of his hair almost touched one of his eyes. He had a dark gray pea coat draped over his black t-shirt he was wearing, and his nice dress shoes made almost no sounds.

"The big one is Emmett Cullen, and the other is his brother, Edward Cullen," Jessica added a moment later. Bella studied them as they reached their table they normally sat at, one of the round shaped tables that were near the cafeteria doors that led outside.

"And there's Jasper Hale, he's Rosalie's twin. They are, Dr. Cullen's niece and nephew. Him and his wife adopted them when his sister and her husband had died in a freak accident when they were younger. The others are adopted too, Dr. Cullen and his wife suffer from the same eye condition as them, so they thought they needed a good parental support system. They are really young though; they look only in their late twenties—early thirties at the most."

The moment Jasper Hale came into the cafeteria she swore everything disappeared.

The boy that walked in was tall, lean, and muscular. His pale skin (just like his siblings') almost became translucent from the bluish, gray light that came through the cafeteria windows. He had his arms by his sides though his hands were twitching, he was contemplating on doing something, but he was trying to restrain himself from doing it.

His hair, a deep honey, canary blond, was made of a soft mane of curls. They brushed against his collarbones and hid a good bit of his face from Bella—though she could see the handsome features. He wore a white sweater, dark washed jeans, cowboy boots (maybe he was from the south?) along with a black stylish jacket over the sweater. He had an old-time aesthetic to him, as though he came from another time period completely, sure the others had the same aesthetic but this aesthetic, it was so strong by the way he walked.

A military man. He walked as though he was in the military. Perhaps his father or mother were in the military, or they were stationed together overseas, and they died in action. It would fall under the category of a freak accident. It would make sense, because even Rosalie looked as though she herself held this commanding vibe to her.

Jasper paused where he was, stiffening, his eyes traveling from where his siblings were to the sight of Bella. His eyes were wide, so terrified and darkening rapidly. The deep golden irises which seemed like a trademark for his family, were becoming swallowed completely by an avalanche of obsidian. He swallowed hard, almost inhumanly hard, before he turned on his heel and stalked out of the cafeteria—not even giving a look towards his siblings.

Tears began to rise in Bella's tear ducts, but she reached her hands up and wiped them away, before she turned around. She didn't cry about not gaining the attention of a boy. Renee didn't tell her whether it was appropriate to cry or not to. Charlie on the other hand tried his very best, he would be there right now telling her not to cry over some stupid boy.

Making sure she would pay attention to her new friends; Bella was thankful for one thing when it came to her hearing impairment. She played with one of the napkins that were next to her tray of food, her fingers tearing pieces apart from the cheap paper napkin. She only jolted away from her concentration on destroying the paper napkin when the cafeteria bell above her went off. She glared heatedly up at the ceiling before she got up and threw away the remains of her lunch and gave her cafeteria tray back to the cafeteria ladies.

"Who do you have next, Bella?"

Bella turned, noting Mike went forward and looked over her shoulder blade. She curled in on herself and moved so she was standing next to him and not having him behind her. Since she couldn't hear footsteps as well as she used to, she didn't like knowing someone could sneak up behind her without having to worry about her hearing them. It was creepy, and one of the things she loathed completely once she experienced it not even a week into being hearing impaired.

"Biology, with Mr. Banner," she explained, earning an excited aura around him. He perked up as though he was a child being told he could go to Disneyland. Bella sighed internally, hoping she wouldn't become his lab partner.

Angela came forward with Jessica also. Angela gave an assuring smile towards Bella. She reached her hand as though to take Bella's arm to drag her away from the brunette and blond. Bella gave a slight nod, barely noticeable but Angela merely gave a nod back to her. She wrapped her arm around Bella's and pulled her away from Jessica and Mike.

Bella wanted to ask if this was how Jasper Hale normally was, but she didn't want to hear them tell her it was just her, he had acted this way about. Just one look at her and he would turn on his heel. He'd leave the cafeteria. She knew he must be an odd case, the way he held himself wasn't normal, the way his eyes seemed as though he was revealing his tortured soul for everyone to see. He was in pain, emotionally and physically, and he was letting everyone know they would experience pain too if they thought to come any closer to him.

When they reached Biology, Bella surprised herself when she threw her arms around Angela, hugging her. Angela merely patted her shoulder and let her hold her before Bella pulled away. She blushed and pushed pieces of her hair behind her ear, before she said, "thanks for keeping me away from them. I think I'd only be able to handle them for short bursts."

Angela giggled before silently agreeing, entering the biology classroom before Bella. She was letting her know she should be able to go into the classroom without her help.

Bella made sure her hearing aids were stuck in well enough. She smoothed down her clothes and stepped forward, her eyes automatically landing on the dark-haired man standing in front of his desk. He had smile eyes (when his eyes crinkled when he smiled), and he had his dark hair combed back. He had on a simple dress shirt, dress pants, and dress shoes. He was of average height and features, there was nothing of him that caught someone's attention a second time.

Reaching Mr. Banner, she didn't have time to say anything before he greeted her, "welcome to Biology, Miss Swan. Today we are going over Cellular Anatomy, something I've noticed you went over in Phoenix before you came up here. I believe you'll do fine, Ms. Debra sent me all your past work in your previous science classes."

Bella nodded her head, her eyes staring at the window behind him. The bluish gray light that came in through the windows only made this town drearier. She preferred this dreary, small town right now and her dad, Charlie than the busy dry heat city and a mother who shouldn't have had a kid to begin with. So yeah, Bella knew she was where she was meant to be, even if she didn't agree with the weather pattern she was currently experiencing.

Mr. Banner finished saying something, before he went to one of the bookshelves that were behind his desk. He came forward to give her the textbook and took the slip of paper for him to sign. He handed the slip to her before he commented, "you'll have to sit next to Edward Cullen, Isabella. It's the only spot available. He's a good student."

Bella opened her mouth, mumbling quietly, "Um okay…I prefer Bella though."

Mr. Banner had already turned away from her and was writing the last bit of information he had for the class to learn today onto the white board. Bella frowned and closed her eyes, took a deep breath, before she moved forward to the lab table and metal stool she was meant to be at. She stumbled some, almost tripping, but managed to grab one of the tables at the last minute. She blushed and kept her head down before she reached her stool and sat her things onto the table, her face hot red and as bright as a fresh grown cherry.

She hopped onto the bar stool and closed her eyes before she slowly counted down from ten to calm her nerves. Once she did, she flipped open the textbook to the correct page, though she swallowed hard as she could feel the boring, golden eyed gaze she was receiving from Edward Cullen. She didn't want to turn to look at him, for she knew he would have sour features, a bitterness would envelop over him as he would stare at her.

If she did turn her head, she would have seen his hands folded together in a harsh fist, purplish veins underneath his pallid skin almost sticking through them along with his knuckle bones. His jaw would be clenched, and his bronze hair would have pieces caressing his eyebrows, never going further into his eyesight. He wouldn't be breathing; he would be silent and still. Yet his stare was that of dry ice, he would both burn and freeze her at the same time if she looked at him.

The moment the bell rang for class to be over, Bella let out a big breath of relief and loosened up her tightened muscles. Edward had been a predator and he was staring at her as though she was his prey. It was frightening, she knew other girls would have had found it hot. She just wanted to survive the rest of the period, she didn't know if he was going to randomly grab a sharpened pencil and stab it through her throat in order to kill her.

"Bella? Bella, are you alright?" Mike popped up next to her as she got from the stool and gave a manageable smile though she couldn't help but ask, "am I not the only one who sensed some really intense vibes from Edward Cullen?"

"Yeah, he looked like he wanted to eat you," Mike admitted, as they walked out of the classroom and in the direction of their last class of the day they shared together, Gym.

Angela didn't share this class with them, but Jessica did. Thankfully Lauren somehow managed to appear and intercept Jessica from walking with Mike and Bella. Otherwise, Bella would have had three people around her, and that was three people too many. She could barely handle herself, how the hell was she supposed to handle three people (not including herself)?

"To be honest, I thought he would have grabbed a sharpened pencil and stabbed me in the neck," Bella mumbled, quiet enough for Mike to not hear. She didn't want to say something morbid, or to be known as the girl in school with a dark sense of humor. So, she still said it but though it was aloud, she knew she was saying it more to herself instead to anyone else.

Coach Clapp was standing in the middle of the gymnasium with his clipboard in front of him. A baseball cap with the school logo was written in bold gold while the background was navy-blue. He wore a matching gym uniform, a jacket with gym shorts. His tennis shoes were worn out. He didn't have much hair on the top of his head, but it was still there.

Bella came up to him, only for him to look up. He reached his hand out, and Bella handed him the slip of paper he needed to sign. He signed it before he handed it back to her. He motioned for her to come forward, Bella contemplated on not going forward but did so in the end. She didn't complain when he motioned for her to show both of her ears so he could see the hearing aids.

He nodded his head before speaking, "Alright, you should be good to go! You look like you have a good pair of hearing aids, worn around the edges but nothing bad. You'll have to give me your uniform size though, we wear uniforms here."

Bella was stunned, her eyes wide, at how he just thought it was fine for him to rate her hearing aids. It was incredibly rude to do so, to even talk about hearing aids in front of said person who wore the hearing aids. Of course, some could say it was rude of a hearing-impaired person to suddenly talk over someone who was in mid conversation, but sometimes the person who was hearing impaired might not have even heard them talk to begin with.

Ushered to the bleachers, Bella sat down near the top of the bleachers and kept her arms wrapped together as she peered down at the teenagers forced to exercise. Lauren Mallory was in her environment; she barely broke a sweat as she played soccer with the other girls. There were two soccer goals on each side of the gymnasium. One set happened to be for the girls and the other set happened to be for the boys. To say the least, Bella wasn't jealous of them playing soccer.

Pulling out one of her sketchbooks she already had in her purse, Bella opened it to a fresh page and pulled out a charcoal pencil. Without hesitation she began to draw Jasper. Well, the first thing she was doing was a rough sketch of him, to make sure she would get the proportions of his face right. She just hoped he would never see this sketch; it would be too embarrassing (Bella was talented enough to win an award for one of her sketches because Charlie had shipped it off to an art competition without her being told about it).

She couldn't help but squeak in fright when the final bell of the day went off, signaling it was the end of school. Bella shoved her charcoal pencil back into its little container and then stuffed her sketchbook back into her purse. She stood up and made her way downstairs, dismissing Mike when he called out for her to wait on him. She knew he was going to go and take a quick shower (he was drenched in sweat), and he wanted to walk her to the front office.

Bella tripped some as she hurried to the front office, if she were in Phoenix, she would have some scraps against her knees and more bruises forming on her legs. She rushed into the front office, soaking in the heat as it kicked on in the front office before, she looked towards the front office desk. She paused where she was, when she had gone to step forward, as she saw Edward Cullen leaning up against the front office desk with his head tilted down.

Mrs. Cope was blushing and fiddling with the stapler she had in her hands, her head turned to the side. She obviously was flattered, but she was wearing a wedding ring, and she had some morals. She wasn't knowing how to feel about a handsome teenage boy flirting with her when she was faithful to her husband. It was despicable of him.

Edward stiffened though, sensing Bella behind him. He cleared his throat and straightened up, "never mind, I understand you can't change my Biology for another period."

Bella's mouth fell open, as Edward's deep golden irises kept themselves focused on her. She ducked her head down, and fiddled with Grandma Swan's necklace, not liking how Edward was staring at her. She had never been stared at so intensely, so heatedly before.

Bella hurriedly moved out of the way as Edward went towards the front office doors. She didn't pay attention to Mrs. Cope as she asked her how her day had gone. She smiled and nodded her head at the appropriate times, before she left the front office and got into her truck. She leant back up against the driver's seat and frowned as she noticed she couldn't see Edward Cullen anywhere near her, she hadn't been in the office that long after he had left. She should be able to see him still walking away from the office not far away.

Despite her trying not to, Bella had the Cullens stuck in the back of her head. Edward would pop up a good amount of time, but only one of them would appear in her head more than Edward Cullen. His cousin-turned-adoptive-brother Jasper Hale, he was the one who captured her. He reminded her of that saying she had heard before—my soul saw you and kind of went, "oh, there you are".

It wasn't until she was sitting at the kitchen table with their meal in front of them (steak and potatoes), that Bella gained enough guts to clear her throat. Charlie sat at his signature chair he always sat at, even before Bella had moved here, and was cutting his steak when Bella brought up the Cullens. He frowned and sat his utensils down.

"They're good kids, Bells. You have nothing to worry about them. Their father, Dr. Carlisle Cullen, is the best doctor that this town has ever had. He's a good, Christian man, and his wife is a good fashion interior designer. She helped with their house, before they moved here," Charlie informed her, making Bella nod her head as she looked down and began to cut at her steak.

"Edward Cullen didn't seem that thrilled with having me as his Biology partner. I was handing in my slip for Mrs. Cope when I came across him asking if he could swap his Biology class with another class of his," Bella mumbled, stabbing some of her fork into her potatoes before she began to eat them. She didn't look at Charlie again, hoping he wouldn't get mad.

Charlie went to say something only for Bella to shake her head. "It's fine, Dad. I was just wondering what you thought about them."

The good thing about Charlie, they were in tuned with each other, one of the things Renee would never be able she had with her daughter. Bella was more like her dad than anyone else. Both didn't like talking that much to begin with. When they spoke, it was only when they were both felt as though they could contribute to the conversation or to be polite.

The rest of the dinner went by faster, and without any awkwardness there. Bella made sure to clean off the scraps on their plates before putting them into the dishwasher. It was about time for him to buy a new one, this one was ancient and sometimes had to have two cycles done so the plates could be decently cleaned. Then she would have to wash them in the sink if there was anything left, before putting them into the dish dryer rack.

Dragging herself upstairs, Bella went to her bedroom and pulled out some pajamas from her dresser. Charlie was downstairs, watching one of his faithful television shows he had been watching since she was in middle school. She did her nightly routine before she went to bed (double checking to make sure she would turn on the alarm clock) and closed her eyes.

She woke the next morning, only remembering five pairs of golden irises staring at her in darkness. She didn't know why they were staring at her, but she knew there had to be a deeper meaning behind the Cullens and the Hale Twins staring at her.

Perhaps she was just nervous because they had golden eyes, and they were almost inhumanly beautiful. Perhaps it had to do with how Edward had acted as though he was going to murder her in Biology, or perhaps it had to do with the strong connections she had with Jasper before he left the cafeteria. It could have been all of it together, which wouldn't help or solve anything, anytime soon.

Despite not being hungry, Bella ate about half of a piece of toast, knowing she needed something in her system. It would probably only make her nauseous not too long after, but it was the least she could do for Charlie. She needed to make sure to eat breakfast a lot more here than she did back in Phoenix, and she needed to make friends, even if they weren't all her cup of tea.

Arriving at the high school, Bella frowned when she saw only Alice Cullen and Rosalie Hale leaning against a crimson convertible. Alice was sitting on the front hood of the convertible and Rosalie was listening to her girlfriend, though she seemed as though she was also aware of everything happening around her. Emmett Cullen was on the other side of the convertible, he kept sending winks towards girls and some guys when they stared at him. If it were anyone else doing that Bella would have thought it disgusting, but Emmett didn't seem as though he meant anything by it.

The only two that weren't here were Edward Cullen and Jasper Hale. They wouldn't be here for the rest of the week either, making Bella wonder if it was her fault for them not being here. She never voiced this to her new friends, despite having the many opportunities of asking them about the strange absences. She didn't want to be known as obsessive.

On Friday, as Bella sat at the cafeteria table, and was cleaning her hearing aids (because of the excessive amounts of earwax that would build up), she was soon nudged into the side by Mike. She had noticed him in the corner of her eye, so she hadn't jumped for once. She put her hearing aids back into her ears and made sure the volume was at the right spot, letting him know she could hear him as she looked him straight in the eye.

Mike blushed as he reached his hand up and ran it through his blond spikes. "So, we're thinking about going up to La Push in two weeks, would you like to come with us?"

Excitement flooded across Bella's face as she eagerly agreed. She was meaning to go and visit her favorite godbrother, and it would be the perfect opportunity to get away from the Cullens.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: first of all, as usual disclaimer, Twilight doesn't belong to me

secondly: originally I didn't think about pairing Rosalie and Alice together. Yet when I was writing the cafeteria scene I just randomly wrote about them holding hands and so that turned into them being mates. If you are homophobic then leave, or don't like the pairing leave. I'm not going to change the pairing.

anyway, thanks for reading!
