"So, you're going to get Yaomomo to make a tracker, and then follow it to go save Bakugou yourselves?" I asked him, but it was Todoroki who answered, while Eiji almost glared over at Iida.
"Even though the villains called us 'kill targets', they snatched Bakugou away without killing him. They may let him live, but I honestly can't be sure they won't kill him. Kirishima and I will go -"
Iida interrupted him. "Stop messing around! You all are getting carried away!"
"Hold on. Calm down," said Shoji, holding his bandaged arm up to stop Iida. "Kirishima's frustration of not being able to do anything. Todoroki's frustration of BAkugou getting snatched before his eyes. I know how it feels. But this is not a decision one should make based on how they feel," he finished, the last words coming from the mouth on his tentacle.
Eiji looked a little saddened at that.
"Let's leave it to All Might," said a shaking Aoyama. "They rescinded our combat authorization too."
"I agree with Aoyama," said Tokoyami. "I know I'm not in a position to say anything, since I'm part of the reason we failed."
"I know we're all still in shock from Bakugou's kidnapping," said TSu. "However, let's be level-headed about this. No matter how just your feelings may be, if you engage in battle…if you break the rules like that, then your actions are no different than those of the villains."
There was nothing anyone could say to those words. We all stood there in silence for quite a long time.
It was the doctor who broke it.
"I'm sorry to interrupt your conversation, but it's time for MIdoriya's check-up."
"L-Let's go," said Sero. "I want to see Jirou and Hagakure too."
I followed him out, with the rest of the class. I looked back and saw Eiji had stayed behind, to talk to Midoriya.
You guys aren't gonna give this up, are you?
Iida gestured and led us all into another room, then closed the doors. All of a sudden we were grouped around Eiji and Todoroki, like we were gonna have an intervention with them.
"Todoroki, Kirishima," said Iida. "I will not allow this to happen."
"You gonna stop us?" snapped Todoroki.
"Guys, this - this isn't about fighting!" said Uraraka. "But think about it. I really think - Bakugou would probably feel disgraced to get rescued that way."
That seemed to stop them for a moment. Tsu nodded. "Ochako's right too."
I could tell tho that Eiji wasn't persuaded really. I reached out, while Sero and Todoroki started arguing, and whispered to him,
"Back then, with the villain…you remember, I didn't fight him - you remember, don't you?"
He stiffened at that. I could tell he remembered. And was finally listening.
"I didn't use my quirk. Or try and fight him. You can still be brave…just by standing up to who you can, ok?"
Please just listen to me, don't go out there. I can't lose you too…I really think you've become my friend, haven't you?
"You still saved them, without fighting," he murmured. And it seemed to me like he had really heard me. Like I hadn't spoken in vain. It was a real relief.
I can't believe I thought I'd talked him out of it.
A few weeks later, after the world had ended, and when we were all together in the new one…Eiji told me what happened next.
"I went to Midoriya, when I was sure everyone else had left us, and told him 'I talked to Yaoyorozu yesterday. IF we're going, it's gotta be fast. Tonight. With your injuries, I don't know if you're gonna be able to move. But I'm inviting you because…I think you're probably the most frustrated of all.'
"I'm sure you remember what happened next, Ashido. How everyone in class tried to talk us out of it. Even Uraraka, telling us how 'Bakugou would probably feel disgraced to be saved'. And how you told me - tried to talk me out of it…reminded me what happened last time. And I know - I know you were probably right. But I can't regret it because - well, I'll tell you.
"Me and Todoroki waited outside that night. And I kept wondering if Yaoyorozu would do it. Or if she was gonna change her mind. And I even asked him.
'Yaoyorozu said she'd think about it. Think she's coming?'
'Well, no matter how impatient we get, in the end it's all up to her,' he told me.
But there she was - she'd come, and with Midoriya too.
'Yaoyorozu?' I asked her. 'What's your answer?'
She started to say 'I think - ' But then she got interrupted.
'Wait!'
It was Iida. And I thought 'crap, he must've overheard me talking to Midoriya.
'Why…' he asked, glaring at Todoroki and Midoriya. 'Why of all people…why you guys? The two of you who scolded me for my own reckless actions. Who received a special pardon. Why are you guys trying to make the same mistake I did? This is too much!'
'What're you talking about, man?' I asked him. Course, e never explained that, but anyway. HE went on going.
'We're under the protection of the school. And things are bad enough for UA as it is. Who do you think will have to take responsibility for your actions?'
'Iida, you've got it wrong!' said Midoriya. 'It's not like it's ok for us to break the rules -'
And Iida punched him in the face.
'I'm frustrated too! I'm worried! Who wouldn't be? I'm the class president! I worry about my classmates! Seeing your injuries, lying on the bed, just like my brother…if you guys go through with this rashness - if something happens to you that can't be recovered from - are you saying my concerns don't mean anything? Do my feelings not mean anything?' He held Midoriya's arms.
'Iida…' said Midoriya.
'Iida!' said Todoroki. 'We're not trying to confront and attack them head on. Not at all. We're going to rescue him without combat.'
'This is a covert operation! A way for us to fight without breaking the rules!'
'I trust in Todoroki's judgement,' said Yaoyorozu. 'But I came with the attention of accompanying you all. As a failure, should the unthinkable happen, I will prevent combat.'
'Yaoyorozu!' Iida cried out, and I told her 'You're the best!'
'I don't really understand it myself,' said Midoriya. 'After being told that my hands can still reach him, I can't just sit around. I can't help but think I want to save him!'
I guess what Itold him really got through.
Iida didn't look like he was gonna give in. 'A parallel, huh? In that case, take me with you!'
