Tony x Kagome: Confliction

The document in front of her weighed heavily on her shoulders as she repeatedly flicked her gaze to and from it. A dull ache started in her head, and she let out a soft sigh as she covered her face with her hands.

For the first time in what felt like forever, she really didn't know what she should do. She was torn right down the middle, and she knew the concern that the Sokovia Accords had stemmed from was warranted in its own way, but at the same time it didn't seem like the best option settled upon. With a frustrated huff, she all but shoved the document away from her- disgusted and distraught in nearly every possible way.

She always knew that once the public became aware of her ownership of the Shikon no Tama, then she'd be regarded in… less than ideal ways, but being deemed in the category of a dangerous weapon hurt more than she cared to admit. No matter what she did, no matter how careful she was, she'd never be seen how she wanted to be seen. She was a danger, plain and simple, and that fact stung.

Some days she wished she'd never been pulled down that old well, that she'd just be able to pretend none of that ever happened. She wondered where she would be now, what her life would be like, if she never had to worry about it a single day in her life. In the end, she knew it was pointless. All of it was. The jewel refused to abide by her desires for it to leave the living realm, and because it kept acting out she was forever going to be seen as some sort of destructive-!

"Hey Sunshine," Tony's voice came from the doorway, and she all but jumped at realizing she wasn't alone. He walked in, setting a bottle of water down in front of her. "You've been here for how long already?" he asked, and she turned away from him, resting her chin in her palm as she did so. "Figured you might want something other than old coffee to drink."

"Thanks," she replied. Her somber tone was easy to pick up on, and Tony sat down beside her with a low sigh.

"So?" he said, taking a sip of whatever he had in his glass as he nodded at her. She could feel his attention on her as he didn't bother to beat around the bush. He knew what she had been contemplating in here for hours on end. She shook her head and sat back in her chair, resting her palms flat on the table as she looked at anything other than him.

"What do you want me to say, Tony?" she asked softly, her voice quivering.

He set his glass down. "I want you to do what's for the best," he said. "You know that, and I know in your little "justice-will-always-prevail" mindset that you agree." She laughed dryly.

"Is that what you think?" she asked, turning to eye him skeptically. "When the hell did you start caring about the importance of justice? Isn't that more Steve's thing?" She caught his stare, and a second later she shook her head. "Sorry, I- I just… never thought the day would come where I came to be regarded as a dangerous weapon. The jewel? Sure, that's entirely fair and justified," she forced a laugh, "but me?"

He was silent as she blinked back her tears.

"I always did my best- everything I could possibly do to help and save as many people as I could, even if it meant something bad happening to me or- or worse," she continued, more tears building up. "I- I just…" she shook her head, looking away again. "I don't know."

"You know what has to happen if you don't sign," he said, and she nodded.

"What if that's for the best, then?" she responded, looking back at him. It hurt her deep in her heart to say that, and she knew it showed on her face when she saw his expression shift. She didn't want that, but maybe it was for the better. "I-I could shrink away and handle the jewel far away from anyone else."

"How is that better for anyone?" he asked, setting a hand on the table and leaning into her. "Is it really worth it for you? Giving up something that's a part of you because of your pride?"

"That's rich coming from you," she snapped at him, heat entering her gaze. "You have no right to talk about my pride when you-!"

"Actually, I think I do have a right because you are way too important to this entire team for you to just up and vanish into whatever void just might consume you!" Tony said, his voice turning serious in a single second. "I'm trying to keep this team together the only way I can," he said, his voice going soft, and it almost sounded as if he was trying to plead with her. "If you leave, our team isn't whole anymore. I know that. You know that. Everyone knows that."

Kagome found it impossible to hold his stare any longer, and she looked away with a shaky exhale. He took her hand in his own, and she glanced at their connected hands from the corner of her eye, contemplating for a split second whether to yank her hand away or not. She decided not to, turning her hand palm up so she could hold his hand at the same time.

"I don't know if I'm going to sign the Accords or not," she said after a few minutes of silence. "I understand and accept that they are needed, Tony, I do," she said, glancing at him. "I just… don't know if there could be a better way to handle all of this."

"There's not any time for that," he responded, and she nodded, letting him know she was aware. He stood up, and she followed suit not long after. "In the end, I know what I want doesn't matter to you, but I'll tell you anyway. I want you to sign them- for your sake and for the sake of all of us," he said, "but it needs to be by your own decision. I can't force your hand to do this or that, I know," he said, looking down at her.

"Tony, I care about what you think because you're my friend," she said, her tone soft. "Of course it matters to me, please don't think otherwise." Kagome glanced down and sighed. "I'm just not sure what I want to do. I need more time to think it over."

Tony nodded, his expression contorting some as she said those words. She was able to pick up on a shift in his aura, and she turned blue eyes up to focus on him, her gaze narrowing slightly.

"What's with all that?" she asked.

"Okay, I'm not going to pretend it's not a problem because you're aware," he said, and she got the hint easily enough. Frustrated, she looked away. "You are seen as a danger, or more so that jewel is."

She rolled her eyes. "If you're trying to spare my feelings, it's a swing and miss from you."

"My point is- until everything is settled I'd really appreciate it if you stayed put here." She looked at him, her eyes going wide with disbelief as he said those words. "Don't look at me like that," Tony said. "We know you don't mean harm, but if something happens and you, you little justice-seeker, happen to get involved- no matter how small, it could be you breaking up a street fight for all they care- it won't end well."

"Tony I'm not that kid you met when Loki brainwashed my dad," she responded. "If I go out, I can handle myself perfectly fine. Well… let's be honest," she sighed, "I was perfectly capable back then, too."

"I know you're not, and that's the problem," he said. "You're an adult and any limits that might've existed back then don't anymore."

"Tony-"

"It's not you that's seen as a weapon, Kagome, it's that cursed little jewel that makes your life a living hell, you know that, right?" he asked, tilting his head to the side. "It's stuck with you though, so in their eyes, it's an extension of you. Like my suits are an extension of me, or like how Wanda's magic is an extension of her, and they don't care for other arguments about it."

She was silent as she nodded, understanding his concern. "I understand."

"Good," he responded, reaching and resting a hand on her shoulder. "I need to know that you're safe," he said. "I need to be sure because if something were to happen to you, things would never go back to how they were."

She was silent as he said those words, and a few minutes passed before she responded in any sort of way, and it was by a nod of her head. A second later, she spoke. "I'll… do all I can to stay within the Compound until things are all said and done." She felt the relief in his aura as he sighed.

A second or two passed before she moved, and she stepped up to him- much to his surprise- as she wrapped her arms around him in a hug, tangling her fingers in the back of his shirt. He gently reacted, patting her back with a soft touch. Without thinking, he reacted, pressing a chaste kiss to the top of her head. It was simple, yet affectionate.

Kagome's eyes widened when she felt it, but she didn't comment on it. She instead squeezed him a bit tighter before she let go. As she did, she went to leave behind him, and as she did, she glanced back over her shoulder to give the document on the table one last parting glance.

She had no idea what to do.

C.R: New update for this collection. It's pretty apparent when this one takes place, due to the mention of the Accords. (Civil War.)

This one can be interpreted as romantic or platonic depending on your own views. I'm still unsure if I want her paired with any of the main avengers, or if I want more of a family/friend connection with them for her. A big part of me really likes the possibility of Tony and Kagome, but at the same time, I'm also really partial to that friend and/or familial vibe for them.

Anyway, thank you all for reading, and I hope you all enjoyed! Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.

Please remember to Review&Favorite&Follow, thank you!

Bye for now~
