"Jenna!" the Doctor greeted, happily as she walked into the TARDIS.
"Hey", the brunette greeted back, flatly and his smile dropped.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
"I had to watch a child die", Jenna replied, quietly, sinking down onto the jump seat "granted he was a member of the Slitheen family and they wanted to turn of the sun…but still…he was 12 years old".
"Oh Jen…", the Time Lord breathed, sitting down next to her.
"I've never…this has never…" Jenna burst into tears.
The Doctor drew her into a hug "I'm sorry", he said, softly "I'm so, so sorry".
"H-how do I move on from this!" Jenna sobbed "how?!"
"I don't know", the Time Lord admitted, his hearts aching at her pain. He wished that he could just take it all away, stop her from hurting…from grieving over the death of a child. "But I'm going to help you anyway I can".
Jenna glanced up at him with tear filled eyes "thank you", she whispered. She moved back, wiping her eyes. She then let out a breath "I could do with a cup of tea", she admitted.
"I'll make you one", the Doctor said, standing up "but first, lets get the TARDIS moving". He pulled a lever on the console and the ship shuddered, throwing them both to the floor.
"What the hell was that?" Jenna asked as the Time Lord helped her up.
"No idea", the Doctor confessed. Then alarms started blare and he moved around the console, trying to silence them. "Ah, stop it! What was all that about, eh? Eh? What's your problem?" the Time Lord enquired, confused. Jenna mouth dropped open when she saw another guy appear in a cricket outfit and a stick of celery on his lapel.
"Right, just settle down now", the 5th Doctor told the TARDIS.
"Oh my god", Jenna breathed watching them work.
"Cue the triple 'what'", a female voice muttered from her left. Jenna glanced over and her eyes widened, seeing a slightly taller brunette standing next to her. She was wearing 50's style garb and an all too familiar locket around her neck. She'd seen the woman once before, she was Naiyah! At least, she was one of them. The Time Lady looked at her and smiled "Hello Jenna".
"Hi", Jenna said slowly "I'm sorry but are you really here?"
Naiyah nodded "I am", she confirmed "we're here because of…" she trailed off "watch, its about to happen". She nodded to the two Time Lords who were now staring at each other.
"What?" the Doctor asked.
"What?" the 5th Doctor repeated.
"What!" his older-self exclaimed and Naiyah shot an amused look at Jenna.
"Who are you?" the 5th Doctor demanded.
"Oh, brilliant. I mean, totally wrong. Bit emergency, universe goes bang in five minutes, but, brilliant", the Doctor rambled with a silly grin on his face.
The other Time Lord frowned at him "I'm the Doctor. Who are you?" he questioned.
"Yes, you are. You are the Doctor", the Doctor said, rather giddily.
"Yes, I am. I'm the Doctor", the 5th Doctor argued.
"Oh, good for you, Doctor. Good for brilliant old you", the Doctor gushed.
Naiyah sighed "better step in otherwise this will keep going until the TARDIS goes bang", she said to Jenna "wanna help?"
"I don't know what to do", Jenna admitted.
"Yes you do", Naiyah insisted "just trust yourself and trust those 'feelings' of yours". The Time Lady gave her a wink and Jenna smiled. "Right! Out of the way you two", Naiyah stepped up in between the Time Lords "we'll take it from here". The Doctors moved back to watch the pair of them work in tandem at the console. The older Time Lord smiled at the two of them, trying to ignore the ache in his twin hearts at seeing an earlier version of his best friend. He wished he could tell her…to warn her about the Time War but he couldn't. The timeline had to be maintained no matter how much he hated it.
"So we've got two Tardises have merged together which is one heck of a paradox", the Time Lady explained "it'll blow a hole in the space time continuum the size of…" she glanced at the "Belgium" she made a face "That's a bit undramatic, isn't it? Belgium?"
"Just a little bit", Jenna agreed. Suddenly the cloister bell tolled "that's not good", she stated.
"Need some help?" the Time Lords chorused.
"We're good!" Jenna and Naiyah said together, and they grinned.
"Well, we will be in a minute", the Time Lady "once we stop the black hole our ships are about to create". The two women ran around the console, throwing levers. "Venting the thermobuffer", Naiyah reported.
"Drawing the Helmic regulator", Jenna added.
"And just to finish off, let's fry those Zeiton crystals", Naiyah finished.
"You'll blow up the TARDIS!" the 5th Doctor exclaimed.
The Time Lady shot him a look "give me some credit Doctor, I know what I'm doing. Besides when you've got this girl at your side" she nudged Jenna "you can't go wrong". She threw one more lever and everything turned white.
When it faded, everything was calm. "Supernova and black hole at the exact same instant", the 5th Doctor breathed in awe.
"The explosion cancels out the implosion", Naiyah explained.
"Pressure remains constant", Jenna put in and they high fived.
"Oh that's brilliant", the Doctor said, proudly.
"Very brilliant", the 5th Doctor agreed "I doubt we would've worked together that easily".
"Don't sell yourselves short. Once you realised that you're both the Doctor, everything would've been fine", Naiyah waved him off. She and the 5th Doctor started to fade. "Right then, our Tardises are separating. Jenna keep being brilliant" she glanced at the Doctor "and you…look after her. She's one in a million".
"Don't I know it", the Doctor remarked and Jenna blushed at the look he was giving her.
"To days to come", the 5th Doctor said to him.
"All my love to long ago", the Doctor said back. The two Time Lords vanished with smiles on their faces. Wordlessly, Jenna went over to him and put her arms around his waist. The Doctor hugged her back, the loss of Naiyah hitting him all over again.
Suddenly a fog horn blares through the large room. The Doctor and Jenna look at each other confused before something crashes through the side of the TARDIS. The latter yelped as they were thrown to the floor by the force of it, debris showering down on them. The Time Lord quickly got up, coughing from the dust and helped Jenna to her feet. "You alright?" he asked, looking her over for injuries.
"Fine", Jenna replied "though…" she trailed off, seeing a ship's bow sticking through one of the walls "that might be a problem".
"I can fix that", the Doctor declared, going to the console. Jenna then spotted something on the floor and went over to it.
"No way", she breathed, picked it up.
"What is it?" the Doctor asked.
"We just crashed into the Titanic", Jenna answered, showing the life preserver to him "or it crashed into us". The Doctor just stared at the life preserver in her hands, speechless.
