Percy/Oliver - 16.3
Assignment 4 - Alchemy - Task 2: Write a Author/Writer!AU
Something really kind of neat
Percy is tired of all the distractions. His boyfriend, Oliver, comes up with a solution.
Percy/Oliver.
Percy presses down the buttons on the typewriter, enjoying the clicking as the words appear on the paper. His next book is due in a few months, and despite him being completely stuck, he just wants to type anything. Maybe get his brain working.
He types up one of the short stories he made up the night before for his daughters. A story about dragons and princesses riding on dragons to fight. His daughters loved the story and he's considering writing it up as something real. But for now, he types out what he remembers from last night so he doesn't forget the bits that his daughters loved the most.
Oliver walks into the room, his hair sticking up all over the place and without his shirt.
"The girls gone?" he asks, yawning.
Percy pauses in his writing and he nods. "I know you got in at around four. We didn't want to wake you," he says. "How are you feeling?"
"Like hell." Oliver yawns. "Breakfast?"
"Lunch. I'll get started in a moment. Just let me—"
"I know what you're like when you're writing. I'll get something made up." Oliver gives him a tired grin before turning around, stretching his arms in the air as he does. Percy winces as the clicks of Oliver's joints as he does.
He's still writing when Oliver comes back. Oliver grabs his arm and pulls him away from his story. "Come on, luv, get some food. Otherwise you'll pass out at the typewriter."
Percy hesitates, but he knows Oliver is stubborn and can be quite insistent, and he stands up and walks to the dining table. He can't help but smile at the sight. Oliver has cooked a fry-up and Percy wonders how long he's been writing for.
"Lost in your story," Oliver explains, a grin on his lips. "Come eat, luv."
Percy tucks into the food. When his girls aren't at his for the weekend, he finds himself getting lost in the stories. He refuses to touch the typewriter when they are there. If he has ideas for stories, he writes them in one of his several notebooks instead. Because he just uses them for notes. The typewriter is what takes his attention.
"So… what are you writing?" Oliver asks.
"Just now? Just a story I told the girls last night," Percy says. "I'm writing it in short form for now, but am thinking I can make it longer one day."
"One for the file?" Oliver teases.
Percy smiles sheepishly. "I was hoping it'd inspire me for the story that the publishing company is waiting on. I'm completely stuck on how to write a sequel, but that's what I said I'd do, and… I need to do it."
Oliver nods as he cuts into one of his eggs.
"How was training? You've got the match in a few days. How are you feeling about it?"
"Nervous. It's my first big game," Oliver admits. "I'm hurting a little. From the training, but I'll be fine. My muscles will get used to the strict training."
"Training to sit on a broom?" Percy teases.
Oliver laughs. "You know there's more to it than that," he says. "Also, you think they'd find a way to cushion those bloody things. I'm going to have a bruise across my backside for weeks at this rate."
Percy laughs softly and the get back to eating. He loves these quiet moments when it's just them (though he loves when his daughters visit even more, of course).. "Do we have plans today?" Percy checks.
"Nothing at all. I know you want to get back to your writing, so you go ahead. I'm going to take a long bath." He leans over and presses his lips to Percy's cheek before picking up their empty plates and leaving the room. Percy smiles after him before standing up and returning to the typewriter.
Percy lets out a loud sigh as he moves away from the typewriter. He wanted a nice, quiet day to write. Oliver is recovering from training, and Percy has writing, which is pretty much his job. But now Ron is here.
He loves his brothers. But today is not the day. But still, he moves away from his work and he sits down on the sofa and he talks to his brother, and he listens as Oliver and Ron discuss Quidditch.
His eyes keep moving back to the typewriter. He hides his frustration, not wanting to take it out on anyone. It's how their family is, unfortunately.
This is every weekend, unfortunately. His family don't have boundaries and certainly don't think of bowling or calling before just turning up. But Percy appreciates them all the same, but he'd like a bit of notice.
Finally Ron leaves, and Percy returns to the typewriter, noting down so many things that had been going through his mind during the Quidditch conversations. He doesn't stop until Oliver is pulling him away from it for dinner.
Then his dad turns up, just as he's sitting back down again, and Percy feels like he's going to lose his mind. He just wants to get this story finished so he can get back to his main story. But he's not going to do either if he keeps getting distracted.
The small bin by his desk ends up full of paper because with all of the distractions, Percy finds himself making mistakes on the sheets. He's a perfectionist, and can't have sheets full of mistakes. Which sets him back even more.
Percy is almost pulling his curls out. He's tried to relax because he doesn't want to stress Oliver out before the match. But the match has been and gone (and Oliver did amazingly). Now Percy can get back to writing.
He's finished the story he told his daughters, and he's noted down another couple of small ideas, but now he's on the sequel to his book, writing out the outline of it and some plot points, and people just keep turning up and distracting him.
"Percy," Oliver says, distracting him once more. "You look so fed up. You look like you're about to burst."
"I'm okay," Percy lies.
"You're not," Oliver argues. "I'm sorry, I know I might have stressed you out during the lead-up to the match. I'm so glad it's over and that we get a few weeks off before having to go back to training."
"You don't stress me out," Percy says, a little softer now.
"I know you want to get on with your book and I don't want to disrupt you any longer. I just… here." Oliver holds out two tickets.
Percy takes them. Two tickets. "What are these?"
"We're going to watch the big game in Italy," Oliver says with a grin on his lips.
Percy holds back a sigh. That is the biggest distraction he can think of. But he reminds himself that this isn't about him. It's about them as a couple, and if Oliver wants to go and see the game, Percy can be supportive and take an interest in Oliver's likes and go to see it with him. He might fit in some writing along the way.
"Don't give me that look," Oliver adds, smirking. "Come to one game with me whilst we're there, that's all I ask. But… I've booked two weeks for us in a nice hotel, all inclusive meals, and best of all, no family to distract you. Except me, that is."
Percy brightens up. "You don't mind me writing whilst we're there?" he asks.
"I don't mind," Oliver laughs. "I spoke to Audrey about you missing a couple of weekends with the girls, and she's happy for us to have them over the half-term for an extra few days to make up for it. Oh. Also, we leave tomorrow. So get packing."
Percy stands up and wraps his arms around his boyfriend and leans in for a kiss. "How do you know me so well?" he asks.
Oliver grins. "There are pros to being your roommate in school," he admits. "But you can thank me on holiday." He glances towards the door. "I'll give you some time to get back to writing. I think I'll go for a jog, or maybe to the gym or something."
Percy glances at the typewriter. He has a story to write, but he's about to have two weeks of peace and quiet. He can move away from it for now.
"How about I thank you now?" he suggests. "I have more interesting thoughts about how to work out."
Oliver smirks. "You know me," he replies. "Very easily convinced. How about you show me in the bedroom?"
