Olive was about a month away from giving birth. This was the weekend of her baby shower. The women from Chicago were all coming in, which included the ones from 51 and Donna Boden and Cindy Herrmann. Olive's sister was coming in and the flights were due in at about the same time. Olivia had taken the afternoon off as did Olive and they were picking up Jessica and the kids at the airport. Pete, Chad and their families had just moved out there, so Dan and Nicole were helping them get things organized. Olive wasn't driving anymore anyway. Olivia had parked by the door and had her lights flashing, so she ran inside.
"Are you Jessica?"
"I am. You must be Olivia."
"That's me. It's nice to meet you. I am so sorry for your loss."
"Thank you. It's nice to meet you too. This is Brianna, Ethan, Andy and Mia."
"Hey, you 4. I'm Olivia."
"Hi Olivia."
Olivia helped with the seats and bags then they went out to the SUV.
"Are we riding in a police car?"
"Yeah, kind of."
"Cool!"
They put the seats in and then the kids got into their seats. Olivia got the luggage in and then she and Jessica both got in.
"Hey, Ollie."
"Hey. Olivia, can I use your phone? I left mine at work, so I need to contact Adrienne to get it to Trevor."
"Yeah, sure."
Olivia gave Olive her phone, so she could call Adrienne. Olivia drove to Dan and Nicole's and then she helped Jessica take the stuff in. Olivia told her to grab the swimsuits if they had them. Jessica grabbed everyone's swimsuits. Then they went back down and got into the SUV. Olivia then drove home. Olivia pulled into the garage and then they went inside.
"This is beautiful."
"Thank you. This is Lucy Huston, our kids' nanny. Lucy, this is Olive's sister, Jessica and her kids Brianna, Andy, Ethan and Mia."
"It's nice to meet all of you."
"You too."
"I am so sorry for your loss."
"Thank you."
"Did Jamie drop them off?"
"She did. Everyone is fine. She said she texted you."
"I left my phone at work."
"That'll do it."
"Where's Hank?"
"He went somewhere with Ed and Alvin. Meredith is here though. The kids are all outside with Meredith, Kara, Kelly and Connor. The puppies are all running around out there too."
"Ok."
"I'm going to go if that's ok."
"That's fine. We'll see you tomorrow?"
"Definitely."
Lucy went out to say goodbye to the kids and then she left. Everyone else went outside.
"This is Meredith Olinsky and this is our youngest granddaughter Camille. Meredith, this is Olive's sister Jessica and her kids Brianna, Mia, Andy and Ethan."
"It's nice to meet you."
"You too."
"MOMMY!"
Rachel came running over to Olivia.
"Hey, you!"
"Mommy, can we go play?"
"Sure."
Brianna and the boys went to join the other kids and introduced themselves to everyone.
"This is Rachel. Rachel, this is Mia."
"Hi."
"Hi."
"How old is Rachel?"
"She will be 4 in November. Noah will be 5."
Nikki started screaming and then Kara came over with her.
"What's the matter?"
"She got stung by a bee."
"Uh oh! Let's go get some ice."
Olive took Nikki and then they went inside to get some ice, while Kara went back over by the other kids. While she was inside, the others from Chicago arrived the house. They all came outside.
"Hey."
"Hey, ladies."
"This is my sister Jessica and my niece Mia. These are friends from Chicago: Trudy Platt, Kim Burgess, Hailey Upton, Gabby Dawson, Sylvie Brett, Stella Kidd, Donna Boden and Cindy Herrmann."
"Nice to meet all of you."
"You too. Camille is getting so big."
"She sure is."
"How are you, Meredith?"
"I'm doing great. I'm glad we moved out here."
"Great."
"Are there a lot of people coming to the shower?"
"Amanda and Jesse, Shauna, Jeff's mother, Diana and Kara, Alex, Casey and Melinda. Ed's mom and sisters will be there but it's at the Pub and because Kara is there, Kelly will be there. Olive's aunts are coming in, Trevor's stepbrother's wife is coming in from Chicago, his stepsisters will both be there and of course his mom, Olive's mom, sister and sisters-in-law."
"Jess Miller was on the flight with us. You're the sister she doesn't get along with?"
"Trudy!"
"It's ok. Yeah, I am but we're working on that. I lost my husband a month ago and I'm glad Olive was there. This is probably the closest we have been in years."
"What happened with your husband?"
"We got into an argument and he left. I begged him not to but he did anyway. The kid that hit him was texting and hit him head on. A friend of our dad's came to tell me but he made sure my brothers were there with me."
"Sorry to hear that."
"Thanks. What do all of you do?"
"We're all either cops, firefighters or paramedics. Donna and Cindy are wives of firefighters. Trudy is a Desk Sergeant in charge of Patrol and her husband is a firefighter. Kim is an Officer and Hailey is a Detective. They are with the Intelligence Unit, where my brother Antonio is the Commanding Officer. I'm a firefighter/paramedic, Sylvie is a paramedic and Stella is a firefighter. My husband is also a firefighter. He's actually a Captain. Donna is a teacher and her husband is our Battalion Chief. We do understand what you're going through, since it's what we do. At least it was someone you knew that told you."
"I'm grateful for that."
"Trudy is a good friend of Hank's and Intelligence was the unit Hank ran for years."
"Ok"
"You couldn't talk the guys into coming with you though, huh?"
"Nope."
"I even told Randy that he could hang out with Hank, Olinsky and Ed but he chose to stay home."
"We decided to leave Herrmann at home, so he didn't decide yet again that we needed to make our own beer."
Cindy just rolled her eyes.
"I told Adam that he could hang out with Jay but he said no too. We never go anywhere together. May I hold Camille?"
"Of course."
Kim took Camille from Meredith.
"I can't believe she's almost a year old."
"Neither can we. She is definitely Daddy's little girl though."
"She definitely looks like Jay."
"She does but she's feisty like her mama. She has her daddy and her papa wrapped around her little finger."
"Is she talking yet?"
"Her first word was actually 'Papa' because she's with Hank all the time and then it was 'Dada'. 'Gama' and 'Mama' came later."
"Gama!"
"That is so cute."
Olivia kissed Camille on top of her head.
"Meredith, where did the 3 troublemakers go?"
"They went to put that stuff together."
"Oh, that's right. He did tell me that."
"Put what stuff together?"
"The furniture we bought."
"Which you totally didn't have to do. Thank you so much."
Olive had tears running down her cheeks and then she hugged Olivia.
"I'm sorry. I'm turning into an emotional mess and I look like a whale. I'm bigger now than I was when I was this far along with Daniel."
"I'm sure Trevor loves you no matter what you look like."
"He does. I really don't deserve him. He has been so amazing. He waits on me hand and foot. Trevor pampers me. Even after working a full day, he comes home and fixes dinner for all of us, cleans up and then gets the kids ready for bed. He gets them up, fed and dressed in the mornings too. As much as I loved Justin, he never did that. I never thought I would ever love anyone as much as I loved Justin but I was definitely wrong about that."
"Hank said the exact same thing. It took him a lot longer to get his act together though. He took care of Camille after she became so sick and he was a wreck when she died. He wouldn't have retired to become a full-time husband and father for just anyone."
Meredith nodded in agreement.
"Definitely. I wish Alvin was more like Hank."
"I wish Mouch was too. He's a good guy though."
"Hank is so amazing. He does everything around the house. None of the other men I've been with ever did that."
"Ed seems like he's pretty domesticated."
"Now, yeah. When we were together, we either ate out, ordered in or carried out. I didn't cook much either. Diana comes home to dinner on the table almost every night unless they're over here. What a difference a year makes. Both Ed and Hank even learned to bake thanks to Lucy."
"Wait, Hank Voight bakes?"
"Yep."
Olivia went in and got the cookies that he recently made.
"Try these."
Everyone tried a cookie.
"These are amazing! I never would have guessed that Hank would ever do something like this."
"Sometimes he even surprises himself. I'm going to go change out of my work clothes."
Olivia took the cookies over to the kids and then they all took one. She went inside and headed upstairs. Hank, Ed and Al arrived at the house and went in. Olive introduced Jessica to them and then Hank went upstairs. Olivia was sitting on the bed.
"Hey."
"Hey yourself. Did all the stuff get put together?"
"Yeah. It looks good."
"Good."
"Tired?"
"Yeah."
"Me too."
Hank kissed Olivia.
"I missed you."
"I missed you too."
They kissed again and then they both changed into their swimsuits. Olive's sister and the kids had changed into theirs as well. The group from Chicago had gone to get their swimsuits from their vehicles and changed. Ed went home to change as well. Hank and Olivia went back downstairs and then Olivia went over to the hot tub before getting in. Hank joined her as did Al, Meredith and Trudy. When Ed got back, he joined them while everyone else, including the kids, got into the pool.
"How'd things go today?"
"It was the worst day I've had in a long time. Diana and I got into an argument for no reason and I basically called her a bitch, which I never meant to do."
"She had an appointment the other day and she won't talk about it, which probably means it's not good news."
Then Diana came around back.
"Olivia, I am so sorry about earlier."
"I'm sorry too. I didn't mean to call you a bitch."
"I deserved it. I'm upset and I didn't mean to take it out on you."
"Babe, did your appointment not go well?"
"I've been having problems with my cycle. I still get a period but every couple months. They ran some tests and I have fibroids on my uterus and cysts on my ovaries. One of the fibroids is big enough that my doctor is concerned and one of the cysts is about 4.5 cm, so I do need to have surgery. I need to call to schedule it though."
"I went through the thing with the ovarian cysts a year and a half ago, so I know how you feel. Are you having a complete hysterectomy?"
"That's the plan."
"Do they think it's cancer?"
"No but they will still have to be sent for biopsy. I'm just nervous about it."
"At least she didn't wait several days to tell you like Olivia did with me."
Olivia smacked Hank.
"Ass!"
"I love you too!"
Olivia rolled her eyes.
"Let me know when the surgery is and I will take some vacation time and come out here again. If Randy wants to come with me, fine but if not, I'll come out anyway."
"Thank you."
"No problem."
"You can stay with us."
"Or us."
"I will take that into consideration."
"Does anyone know?"
"After Olivia and I had gotten into it and I went back to my office, Shauna came to see me and we talked. I told her not to say anything to anyone in the family until I talked to you. She figured something was wrong but she came to see me as my niece and not as a cop."
"I can almost guarantee that someone will move in with us temporarily whether it's my mother or one of my sisters. It'll probably either be my mom or Patty, since she doesn't have to worry about her kids."
"I still need to talk to Kara and Brandon."
"We can tell them together."
"Thank you."
"No problem. You done for the day?"
"Yeah. I needed to get out of there. I'm going to go change."
"Ok."
"Come with me?"
"Yeah, sure."
Ed got out of the hot tub and dried off. He put his T-shirt and shoes on and then he left with Diana.
"I feel really bad that I called her a bitch."
"At least she admitted she deserved it. She'll be fine. At least she isn't alone through all this."
"The ovarian cyst thing still makes me feel so uneasy. I know you were fine but it doesn't always happen that way."
"We'll all be there for her. It just seems weird that she ended up with the same thing as me and we have the same father."
"Maybe someone on that side had the same problem."
"I don't know anything about anyone on his side."
Everyone in the hot tub kept talking, while the others and the kids had fun in the pool. Hank had gotten out and went to find something for dinner. Olivia, Al, Meredith and Trudy moved to the pool and then Ed and Diana came back. By the time dinner was ready, Erin and Jay were home and Trevor and mostly everyone in Olive's family arrived. After dinner, the guys went to play poker, while the ladies and the kids stayed at the pool. Once everyone left and headed home or to their hotel, Olivia and Hank put Noah and Rachel to bed. Camille had gone to bed a while ago. When Ed, Diana and the kids had gotten home, they needed to talk to the kids. Kelly was there too.
"Before you head upstairs, can we talk to you for a few minutes?"
"Sure."
"Should I go up?"
"You can stay."
Everyone sat down in the kitchen.
"What's going on, Mom?"
"I need to have surgery."
"What kind of surgery?"
"A hysterectomy. I have fibroids on my uterus and cysts on my ovaries."
"Didn't Aunt Olivia have those?"
"She had the cysts on her ovaries, yes."
"Is this serious?"
"They don't think it's cancer but they will need to be sent for biopsy."
"Oh. This is why you haven't been too happy these last few days?"
"Yeah. The first person I told was Shauna. After Aunt Olivia and I got had an argument today, Shauna wanted to know if I was ok. I told your dad, Aunt Olivia, Uncle Hank, Aunt Meredith, Uncle Al and Aunt Trudy. Aunt Trudy said she will come out whenever I have the surgery. Your dad seems to think that Grandma or Aunt Patty will move in with us temporarily to help out."
"I don't doubt that. When mom broke her leg a few years ago and had to have surgery, Grandma stayed with us. I'm sure Mom will help out too."
"Ok. Just don't say anything to your mom yet."
"I won't. I hope everything is ok."
"Me too."
"Mommy, are you gonna die?"
"I hope not, Sweetie. I am scared though."
"You have every right to be. We were scared for Olivia when she was goin' through it."
"I love you, Mommy."
"I love you too."
"Me too, Mom."
"Thanks. I love you too. Ok, you 3, up to bed. Brandon, we'll be up to tuck you in in a few minutes."
"Ok."
The kids headed upstairs and got ready for bed, while Ed let Lola out. Once Lola came back in, they all headed upstairs and went to tuck Brandon in. Kara and Kelly were helping Brandon with his book. After they were done, they both kissed the girls and then kissed Brandon. The girls went into Kara's room to go to bed, while Ed and Diana got ready for bed and went to bed themselves.
The next day, everyone got up and got ready for the day. Diana, Ed, Brandon and the girls were headed to the Pub to talk to the family. Just as Ed thought, his mother or sister would come stay with them as long as they needed them to.
Everyone arrived for the shower and as always, there was a ton of food. The guys decided not to stay, so they took the kids after they had some food. Once they left, Olive opened all of her gifts.
"Everything is so amazing. Thank you so much."
"You're welcome."
"We really appreciate everything that all the grandparents did to get the furniture. We're also thankful to Hank, Al, Ed and my dad for doing the nursery."
"What are you naming her?"
"Margaret Grace and we will call her Maggie. Trevor has been absolutely amazing throughout my entire pregnancy."
"Are you planning to go back to work?"
"Right now, yes. I'm taking my maternity leave and a family medical leave, so I can stay home until after the first of the year. Trevor is planning to take some time off and then he will pretty much be working from home. He'll go in only if he really has to or if he has to be somewhere."
"That's great."
They brought the cake out and then after everyone had cake, they all talked some more. Everyone headed home or to their hotel. Hank and Olivia had the group from Chicago over for dinner one more time, since they were leaving the following day.
The rest of the weekend went quickly but Hank, Erin and Jay, along with Al, Meredith, Diana, Kara and Shauna, were glad they got to spend some time with the people from Chicago. Diana told Trudy she would let her know as soon as her surgery was scheduled.
