Chapter One: The Fall Of The Dark Lord
Mr. and Mrs Malfoy of Malfoy Manor, located in Wiltshire, far away from the prying eyes of muggles or for that matter, the wizarding world, were proud to say that they were one of the few remaining pureblood families in wizarding England. They were the last people one would expect to be involved with anything to do with muggles or muggle-borns, because they just didn;t hold with such nonsense. "A disgrace it would be to the family" Mr. Malfoy had once said over dinner.
Mr. Malfoy was the son of Abraxas Malfoy, who had inherited the family wealth and thus has no need to work for a living, rather, he continued to inhibit the family estate, enjoying the comforts of their ancestral home whilst his family name garnered him great influenced within the Ministry of Magic. Mr. Malfoy was a tall man with shoulder length white blonde hair, grey eyes and a pale, pointed face. Mrs. Malfoy on the other hand was a thin woman, with bright blue eyes and black hair of which she had dyed the bottom blonde and an extraordinarily pretty face which came in very handy when trying to get her way. The Malfoy's had a small son called Draco and in their opinion, there was no finer boy anywhere and none more suited to inherit the Malfoy Estate and legacy.
The Malfoy's had everything they wanted, exceptional wealth, high standing in the wizarding community but most importantly, they had each other. But in times like these, the true nature of the Malfoy's showed, the ones which the Hogwarts sorting hat most valued in Slytherin's. To protect one's own. At the time of the first wizarding war, Tom Riddle, or Lord Voldemort as he would rather be known, was considered to be one of the most powerful and dangerous dark wizards of the time and Lucius Malfoy sat high up on the ranks of the death eaters. Lucius claimed that he sought to maintain the purity of the wizarding race, second only to that of power. However, his wife knew differently, she knew that he did the Dark Lord's bidding to protect his family.
When Mr. Malfoy awoke that Autumn night, on October 31st, he never could have imagined the words that would tumblr from his young wife's pretty lips. "Lucius!" Narcissa whispered, shoving her sleeping husband's shoulder. "Lucius, wake up!" The grey-eyed man opened his eyes to look at his wife, who was crouched down on the floor next to their bed, her body wrapped in black silk, her hair tied messily in a bun, tendrils falling around her pretty face. A face that now looked worried, anxious… scared even. "What?" Lucius asked, sitting up to look at her. "What happened?" he asked again, picking up his wand from the bedside table and with the flick of his plae wrist, the room was illuminated by candles. "Severus is here… The, the dark lord… he's gone", she whispered.
Lucius threw the covers off himself, his hair falling out the ribbon that held it back out of his face as he stood up, walking towards the large chest of draws that stood at the other end of the room. Through the gap in the curtain, he could see black smoke flying through the sky towards the manor. Lucius began to pull off his night clothes, slipping on a button up shirt and slacks. As he did the buttons of his black shirt he looked at his wife. "Take Draco and go. Take him to Andromeda's. It's the last place they'll think to look for the two of you. Stay there until I tell you that it's safe. I'll come to collect you both and -". Narcissa cut him off "I'm not leaving you here Lucius, who knows what will happen!". Lucius walked towards his wife, buttoning the top of his robes and reaching his hand out to touch her cheek. "Please love, I need you to be safe, I need you to take our son and go". Narcissa looked up into his husband's face. Blue meeting grey. She nodded. The young couple left their bedroom, Lucius squeezed Narcissa's hand before they parted ways. Lucius down the stairs while Narcissa made her way down the long passage towards their son Draco's bedroom.
Within the next few hours, as she sat in her older sister's tiny kitchen, Narcissa Malfoy would learn that the Dark Lord had in fact fallen and that her husband had done all he could, along with her crazed sister, to find him. A task that proved to be impossible. While the remaining death eaters did all that they cold to close ranks, the rest of the wizarding world celebrated the fall of the Dark Lord in secret all over the country, holding up their glasses and in hushed voices, uttering the words: " To Harry Potter - the body who lived".
Over the coming months, the wizarding world would change. The death eaters fell into chaos. The aurors arrested anyone they thought to be in league with Voldemort. Some went quietly, while others, Rosier and the like, fought to the death. Many were imprisoned in Azkaban, most without a trial. Bellatrix, Rodolphus, Rastaban and Crouch, who Lucius had sent to the Longbottoms to interrogate about Voldemort's whereabouts, had touchered them to the point of insanity, leaving their young son who was about Draco's age, orphaned. Narcissa had rushed into the bathroom once Lucius had shared this tiny bit of information with her, returning to him glassy-eyed. Others, like Igor Karkorof provided the Ministry with information for lesser sentences. Severus Snape, a close friend of Lucius, whom he had mentored, had deflected to the other side, providing information to Albus Dumbledor. However, Lucius still trusted Severus, knowing that he would have done the same had he needed to. Lucius had lied during his trial, claiming that the imperius curse had been used on him, knowing that his standing in the Ministry would hold some weight in the matter, hoping that he could retain the power and stature of the Malfoy name and their place within wizarding society. It had worked and Lucius returned to his wife and young son. Kissing them both. However, he knew things would change soon enough, that this would not last. The Dark Lord would return, the death eaters would reclaim their power and the Malfoys would be on the right side of history. The winning side. When? He did not know… but soon.
