"Mal come on, it's been hours, can you please come out of there. I don't want you sleeping on the floor," Sara called out to the toddler who was still hiding under her crib and refusing to come out.

"No!" The young two year old screamed out as she continued to just stay as far back as she could making Sara sigh again as she just wanted Mal to come out so she would at least have her with her right now.

Sara was already going through a lot right now and just wanted to cuddle up with Mal, but the small girl was still refusing.

"Mal come on, it's dangerous under there please," Sara told the toddler as she was growing desperate. "No wanna!" Mal screamed out as she scooted back the furthest she could go.

Sara just sighed again when she realized she wasn't getting the toddler to come out as she just went back into the hallway and called Nico.

"Hey how is she," Nico asked Sara hoping this was just a false alarm situation and that everything would be okay even though deep down he knew that wasn't the case especially when he could see Sara's very upset face.

"Not good, she has a fever," Sara told Nico as she held back her tears.

"Oh sh*t. Okay but how's Mal doing? Is she okay?" Nico asked Sara who just cried again as she thought about the toddler that won't even look at her.

"She's fine but she won't even look at me anymore because I yelled at her to protect her since she wouldn't stop trying to get into Lita's room and I was scared. I just want her with me but she probably is never going to look at me again," Sara cried out to Nico as she couldn't help it.

Mal was her baby and she had spent so much time looking after her and watching her grow and now Mal didn't even want to look at her anymore.

"Sara, she's two. Toddlers don't know what they're doing. I'm sure she'll be begging for you to spend time with her again. She loves you," Nico told Sara, making her smile a little.

"Yeah she does and I know I just love her so much and I can't imagine my life without that little adorable ray of sunshine," Sara told Nico as she smiled remembering how much she loves her baby sister before realization sunk in as she remembered what happens when you get a fever.

"Oh no!" Sara cried out in panic when she remembered that her grandma was running a fever. "What's wrong!" Nico asked his girlfriend in concern but Sara just started freaking out as she began to panic about the very near future.

"I just remembered Lita has a fever and temp check is at 9 am Nico. They'll take us both, you know that. They'll take both her and me. What's going to happen to Mal. Nico if they find her they're gonna kill her! She's too little for the Q zone and no one even knows she exists! And even if they don't she'll have no one left to take care of her. We're all she has left Nico!" Sara rambled out in panic.

"Hey Sara, come on, stop that! No one is taking you away from me and no one is going to hurt Mal. She's going to be okay and you're going to be okay. I promise I won't let anything bad happen to either of you okay," Nico told Sara as he loved them both so much and couldn't lose them. Sara was the girl of his dreams and Mal was basically his daughter even though he's never met her before in person.

He met Sara when Mal was less than a month old and he has been a part of their lives ever since. He may not have been there for Mal's birth or anything but he's known her since she was a few weeks old and he watched her grow from a tiny newborn to the hilariously adorable little curious toddler she is now.

He knows Mal isn't technically Sara's either because she's technically her sister but to Sara, Mal is her baby and that makes Mal his too. He's never told Sara about this though because he doesn't want to be overstepping his boundaries when it comes to the toddler but deep down that's how he feels.

"You sure," Sara asked Nico who just nodded. "Yeah Sara I'm sure nothing is going to happen to you or our daughter," Nico told Sara before he immediately froze as he realized what he had accidentally let slip out when he saw Sara's shocked face as he didn't know how to take it.

"Sara I um I didn't mean to say that it just slipped! I meant to say Mal," Nick quickly told Sara hoping to cover up his mistake but Sara just sighed as she was about to respond when she heard her grandma start coughing badly again.

"Nico I gotta go okay! Lita needs me. You should go, it's not safe," Sara quickly told Nico who just shook his head no as he refused to leave Sara alone especially right now.

"Yeah right I'm not going anywhere and again Sara I really shouldn't have said that again it just slipped," Nico told Sara, making her smile a tiny bit knowing Nico was staying for her.

"Thank you and Nico, it's fine, trust me. I really gotta go now I'll be right back," Sara told Nico as she quickly got up and went back to go check up on her grandma again.

"Okay Mal come on! It's basically bed time now. I don't want you sleeping under the crib," Sara called out to the toddler after she had taken care of her grandma until she fell asleep and then cleaned herself off again making sure she had all the germs off before going back to check up on the toddler.

"No!" The toddler screamed out again, refusing to give in to Sara as she was still mad at her for yelling at her, trying to take her bottle, and keeping her from Lita.

"Okay fine but Mal it's going to get really dark when I close this door and all the light goes away. You can come out now or you can stay under there in the dark. I'm warning you right now Mal it's gonna get really dark," Sara told the toddler hoping to scare her out but Mal just stayed under making Sara sigh as she knew this was going to be a disaster but Mal asked for it.

Sara then closed the door filling the whole nursery room with darkness as she then went back to the front door and sat down to talk with Nico again knowing Mal would be crying any minute now to get out.

Sara just quietly knocked on the door as she whispered out for Nico wanting him to still be there. Sara smiled a little when he responded back as she felt connected to him again.

"She's sleeping and Mal's still hiding away," Sara told Nico who just slowly nodded. "She needs her rest and I'm sure Mal will come out soon," Nico told Sara who placed her hand on the door and smiled a little.

"It's like I can feel you through this door,"Sara quietly told Nico, making him place his hand on the door as well as he chuckled a little remembering the day they first met.

"Remember how we first met and you were yelling at me in Spanish," Nico told Sara while laughing a little, making her smile as she remembered that day as well.

"I have no recollection of that. I do remember just putting a newborn down to sleep and her being woken up," Sara playfully told him back making him laugh again as he continued on.

"I blame Lester's handwriting. It said 31, but I read it as 37. I came pounding on your door like a jackass," Nico told Sara, making her smile again.

"Yeah and then Mal started sobbing from all the noise and I had just put her down for bed too after hours of trying," Sara told Nico, making him feel a little bad about that.

Before Nico could respond though crying filled the apartment as Mal was terrified of the darkness like Sara had told her she would be and she wanted Sara.

"SAWA! SAWA! SAWA! I SOWY! I SCAW! PWEASE! SAWA!" The small girl cried out making Sara smile a little as she looked at the door.

"Speaking of Mal and sobbing. I should probably go get her. I'll be right back and we can continue with this conversation once I'm back," Sara quickly told Nico as she stood up.

"I know Mal I'm coming!" Sara called out as she went running to the nursery and turned on the lights causing Mal to immediately crawl out from the crib as she just clung onto Sara.

"Aw I know Mal the dark is scary huh," Sara told the toddler who just nodded as she laid her head down on Sara. "Alright come on sweetie we're gonna go talk to Nico again," Sara told the toddler making her smile and giggle at the mention of Nico.

"Yay! Ico!" Mal screamed out as she squirmed out of Sara's arms and ran over to the front door making Sara laugh as she followed after the toddler and sat back down to continue on her conversation with Nico this time with Mal cuddled up on her like it always should be.

Sara knew that the morning was going to bring lots of suffering as it was obvious her grandma wasn't passing that temp check but for now she has Mal and Nico close to her making it a little better even though tomorrow their lives would most likely be over as you can't hide a fever no matter how much you try.

"Nico," Sara called out again a few hours later once Mal had fallen asleep and they were both falling asleep as well. "Yeah?" Nico asked making Sara hold back some tears as she hates the possibility of this happening but with how things were going it was very likely it would happen.

"If anything happens tomorrow I need you to promise me that you'll look after Mal and keep her safe," Sara told Nico as she started crying, making Nico freeze up as he knew that tone. It was Sara's giving up tone and he refused to hear it.

"Sara I can't promise that because nothing is going to happen, I told you I won't let it," Nico told Sara who just held back her tears.

"I know this is hard Nico but the truth is I'm probably not going to get out of this. Please I need to know that she'll be okay. Just please promise me that," Sara told Nico, making them both cry.

"Sara nothing is going to happen okay. Trust me please," Nico told Sara who just nodded even though she didn't believe it but she was still willing to have hope.
