Chapter 3-One last run-in
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl climbed out of the cab of the truck and looked at Hershel, who was on top of the truck. "How long have you been up there?" Daryl asks Hershel.
"A few hours. I sent Shane to bed. He needed to sleep," Hershel says. Daryl nods as Lori climbs out of the bed of the truck and walks over to them.
"How long until we leave this highway?" Lori asks them.
"We got enough supplies yesterday while you guys were looking for Andrea and burying Rick," Hershel says. "Once everybody is awake, we'll eat, talk about our next move and go," Lori nods as Carol walks over to them, followed by Andrea and Michonne. Beth, Maggie, Glenn, Shane, and Carl soon join the rest of them. Maggie grabs a map that they had found and sets I down on the truck. They put rocks on the map.
"So, what's the plan? Winter will be here soon," Beth says.
"I say we head west," T-dog says.
"Towards Texas?" Shane asks him.
"Yeah, and if that doesn't work, we can head north," T-dog says.
"We'll be able to gather supplies as we travel," Glenn says. "Maybe we can find another R.V and try to use less vehicles and less gas,"
"Then we'll head west," Shane says. "Glenn, Maggie, Hershel, Beth, and Carol take the red jeep. Michonne, Andrea, Carl, T-dig and I will take my car. Daryl will take his bike with Lori. Any problems with that?"
"I'll ride with you, Shane. Maybe Carl should ride with Glenn," Carol says.
"Yeah, good idea," Shane says. "Let's get the gas from the truck and go," They nod. T-dog and Glenn go to the truck and start to get the gas. Daryl looks at Lori.
"If you want, you can switch with Carol or Andrea," Daryl says to her.
"I'm okay with the bike. I don't want to be in a car full of people right now," Lori tells him. Daryl nods as he walks over to Shane, who was looking at a map.
"Where is the closet town?" Daryl asks.
"Maybe we should stay an extra day," Shane says. Daryl looks at him. "There are supplies left in the town near here. Some of us could go there, and the rest of us can stay here and search the highway,"
"Who would go to town?" Daryl asks.
"I'll take Maggie, Glenn, Hershel, and Michonne," Shane says.
"I'm going to take Carl, Beth, and Carol on a hunt. Beth and Carol should start carrying their weight," Daryl says.
"Lori, T-dog, and Andrea can stay and look in the cars," Shane says. Daryl nods as they walk back to the group. "Okay, we are going to leave tomorrow. Today Glenn, Maggie, Hershel, Michonne, and I are going to take my car and head to town. We are going to get as many supplies as we can from town,"
"What about the rest of us?" Carol asks.
"You, Carl, and Beth are coming with me. I'm going to show you how to hunt," Daryl says. He looks at Lori. "You okay with that?"
"Yeah," Lori says.
"Andrea, T-dog, and Lori will stay here and look for supplies," Shane says. The group nods. Shane, Hershel, Maggie, Glenn, and Michonne get in Shane's car and leave.
"Come on," Daryl says to Carol, Beth, and Carl, who follow him into the woods.
Shane's P.O.V
Shane stops the car in the middle of town and climbs out. He pulls out his knife as a walker comes towards them. He stabs the walker in the head and lets it fall to the ground. "Let's go to the pharmacy first," Shane says. The other four nod as they follow Shane to the pharmacy. Shane pushes the door open and looks around. "It's clear,"
"We'll keep watch. You three know what you are looking for," Michonne says. Glenn, Maggie, and Hershel nod as they head into the pharmacy.
"Shane," Hershel says. Shane looks at him. "If you go to the bar, you might find a few guns from the people in Randall's group we killed,"
"Will you guys be okay?" Shane asks.
"We'll be fine," Glenn says. Michonne and Shane nod as they walk away. Shane and Michonne walk through the streets in silence. Michonne pulls out her katana as they get to the bar. She cuts off a walker's head as it comes towards them. They walk to the side of the bar and see three more walkers. Shane pulls out his knife as the walkers come towards them. Michonne cuts off one's head as Shane stabs another in the head. Michonne puts the katana through another walkers head. Shane walks past the walkers and grabs a handgun.
"Rick took the guns from the other two men," Shane tells Michonne. He stands back up as they hear gunshots coming from the direction the pharmacy was in. They both start to run back.
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl walked with Carl, Carol, and Beth through the woods. He could hear the branches breaking under them. "Stop," Daryl says to them. They all look at him. "Watch where you are stepping. It sounds like elephants are going through the woods," Daryl says to them. "We aren't going to get anything besides walkers at this rate,"
"I don't understand while we are out here," Beth says.
"Because you two need to learn to carry your weight. We aren't on your Daddy's farm anymore. You don't get to stay in your room and do whatever you want while the rest of us keep you alive," Daryl says to her. "Now, come on," They nod as they start to follow him. Carol walks up to him.
"Go a little easy on her. She just lost her home and her boyfriend. She has to take time to adapt," Carol says.
"Carl had to shoot his own father's walker, and he's doing better. She has to get used to this fast," Daryl says to Carol. "So do you,"
"I know the horrors of this world," Carol says.
"I know you do," Daryl says to her as they see a walker coming towards them. "Take it," Daryl says. Carol pulls out a knife she had found in one of the cars. Daryl raises his crossbow as Carol goes to the walker. Carol goes up to the walker and brings her arm back. She stabs the walker in the eye and pulls her knife back out, and then stabs it in the forehead. Carol backs up as the walker falls to the ground. "Good job," Carol puts her knife away and walks back over to them.
"Come on," Daryl says. They start to walk through the woods again.
Lori's P.O.V
Lori opens the back of a car and sees a baby carrier. She sighs as she looks at them. "You okay?" T-dog asks as he walks up behind her.
"We were safe, T-dog. I was okay with having this baby because we were safe, but now we are back on the road," Lori says to him.
"Regardless of if we are safe. You and that baby will be okay. We have Hershel, and we will find the medicine you need," T-dog tells Lori as she goes towards another car.
"How can you be so sure?" Lori asks him.
"Because that baby is the future," T-dog tells Lori as she looks at the car she was at with dark windows. Lori opens the back and smiles. T-dog walks up beside her. There were two handguns, two shotguns, and three rifles in the back of the car. T-dog goes to the back and opens it to see another bag with ammo. "See, things are in our favor,"
"Maybe they are," Lori says before they start to grab the guns.
Shane's P.O.V
Shane and Michonne stop behind a car and could see two trucks with a group of men in front of the pharmacy. "How many?" Shane asks.
"Eight," Michonne says.
"Are you the assholes that killed Tony and Dave?" The man at the front asks.
"That wasn't us," Maggie says. Shane pulls out the handgun they found and holds it out to Michonne, who grabs it. Shane pulls his gun out.
"Well, my friends, why don't you send the lady out, and we'll go," The man says. Shane and Michonne nod to each other. They both rise up and shoot three of the men in the chest. The other men look at them and start to shoot at them. Shane and Michonne get back beside the car. Inside the pharmacy, Maggie and Hershel both shoot a man leaving three men alive. The rest of the men get behind cover. One of the men come up and shoot at Hershel and Maggie. Shane shoots him in the head. Maggie shoots another as he comes out of cover. Michonne and Shane move towards the car and hold their gun on the last man.
"Wait. You don't have to-" Shane shoots the man in the eye and watches as he falls to the ground. They go into the pharmacy and look at Glenn, Maggie, and Hershel.
"Are you guys okay?" Shane asks them.
"Yeah, we should go. It won't be long before walkers come," Hershel says. Michonne and Shane nod as they head back to the car.
Daryl's P.O.V
The group sat around the cars. It has been a few hours since Shane came back. They had eaten and were about to go to bed. "We'll wake up early and get on the road," Shane says. Everybody nods as they slowly go to bed.
