Chapter 4-Finding Family
Lori's P.O.V
Lori climbs out of the bed of the truck during the early morning. She goes to the front of the truck and looks at Andrea, who was sitting on the hood. "Are you going to sit?" Andrea asks Lori, who nods. Lori sits down beside her. Andrea looks at Lori, who was staring at the woods. "How is Carl doing?"
"He's managing," Lori says. "I think he's doing his best to distract himself,"
"Rick saved us in Atlanta," Andrea says. "Even though he is the reason we were trapped," Lori smiles and nods. "Have you thought about killing Shane?"
"I pulled a gun on him in the field," Lori says. "I couldn't pull the trigger,"
"Dale was right. We are broken," Andrea says.
"Now even more than ever," Lori says. "We could use his wise words,"
"We'll make it," Lori says as Daryl and Shane walk over to them.
"We'll get some of the food and then go," Daryl tells Shane, who nods. They look at the two women who look at them.
"You should have Hershel check your wounds before we leave," Andrea says.
"I will," Shane tells her. "Nobody else is awake?"
"I sent Glenn off to bed a few hours ago. She woke up a few minutes ago," Andrea tells them. They nod as they go to the back of Shane's car and pull some granola bars out of the car.
"We are going have to get used to eating less. We need to make sure we have enough food," Shane says as he hands the two of them a bar. They open it and start to eat as Hershel walks over to them. Shane holds one out to Hershel, who grabs it and starts to eat.
"Let's check those wounds before the others wake up," Hershel says to Shane, who nods as he follows the older man. Daryl leans back against another car and eats as the three of them sit in silence. The group slowly starts to come over to them, and Daryl hands them food as they come over. The group sat around the cars eating.
"What do we do if we run into people?" Glenn asks.
"Guess it depends on what they want," Shane says. "If they are trying to kill us, then we'll kill them, and if they want to join us, we'll talk about it," Shane says as he finishes his food. "Everybody ready?" Everybody nods and starts to go into the cars they were assigned to. Daryl climbs on his bike, and Lori climbs on behind him as he starts to bike and starts to drive with the others following them as they head away from the farm.
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl drives his bike down the road. The wind blew through his hair. He felt Lori's arm on his waist. They had gotten off the highway about an hour ago and had been driving down a road. Daryl slows the bikes down when he sees cars blocking the road ahead. He stops the bike and turns it off. The others stop behind him and get out of the car as Daryl and Lori climb off. "Let's get these off the road quickly," Shane says to Daryl, Glenn, and T-dog, who nod as they go to the first car as the others keep watch. Glenn puts the car in neutral and helps the other three push it off the road. "Daryl," Shane says, making the man look at him. "Why don't you take your bike and Glenn and go ahead. See if there are any more roadblocks or problems that will slow us down. Only go a few miles," Shane says. Daryl nods as he motions for Glenn to follow him. Daryl and Glenn get on Daryl's bike, and Daryl goes down the road leaving the rest of the group to clear the cars.
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl stops his bike about 15 minutes away from the group when they find another roadblock. "What the hell?" Glenn asks as Daryl climbs off his bike with his crossbow.
"Someone set this up," Daryl says. Before Glenn can speak, they hear guns click as five men come out of the woods holding guns at them.
"Well, look at this, boys. We have a couple of suckers," A man says as he walks up behind him. Daryl and Glenn both stare at him.
"Merle?" Glenn says. Merle looks at them and grins before he starts to laugh.
"Well, look what we have here. Glenn, how have you been?" Merle asks. He looks at Dary. "Give me a second, baby brother," Merle walks up to Glenn and punches him in the face. Glenn falls to the ground as Daryl moves towards them.
"Move again, and you'll die," The man says. Merle kicks Glenn in the stomach, making him gasp for air. He kicks him in the face making his nose bleed.
"Stop!" Daryl shouts at his brother, who stops and looks at him.
"This bastard left me to die, baby brother. We'll kill him, and then I'll take you to my home," Merle says.
"Leave him alone," Daryl says. Merle holds his hand up with a grin.
"Okay," Merle says. "Let him go," Daryl goes over to Glenn and helps him up.
"Your brother is still a dick," Glenn says as Daryl pulls a rag out and hands it to Glenn.
"So where is Officer friendly and T-dog?" Merle asks as he looks at them.
"Rick's dead," Daryl says. "Shane killed him a few nights ago,"
"Well, that's a shame. I wish I could have done that," Merle says. "What about T-dog?"
"You ain't touching him or anybody else," Daryl says as he stands up.
"Looks who grew some balls," Merle says.
"I say we kill them and find this group, Merle. They aren't going to give them up," Another man says. Merle looks at him and holds his hand up.
"You don't have to do this, Merle. You can come back with us and join us," Daryl says.
"Sorry, baby brother," Merle says before he hits Daryl in the face knocking him to the ground. "Have fun, boys," Merle says. The other five men start to hit Daryl and Glenn. Behind them, Merle pulls out his gun and starts to shoot the five men. They all fall to the ground as bullets enter their chest and head. The last one falls to the ground as Merle shoots him in the neck. Daryl and Glenn both look at Merle, who stares at them with a grin. "Bunch of pricks. Well, are you two pussies going to stand up?" Daryl and Glenn stand up and wipe the blood off their faces.
"What the hell was that?" Glenn asks as he looks at the dead bodies.
"How about a thank you. I just saved your asses," Merle says. "But now I am joining your group because when he finds out what I did. He'll find and kill me,"
"Who is he?" Glenn asks.
"Not important," Merle says as he starts to collect the guns. "Where are you heading?"
"Texas," Daryl says. "You ain't coming if you are going to kill T-dog,"
"I'll leave your boyfriend alone, baby brother," Merle says. "Follow me," Merle says as he goes into the woods. Daryl and Glenn slowly follow Merle into the woods and to a small camp with two trucks. "Help me load the white truck," Glenn and Daryl follow Merle and start to throw the supplies into the back of the truck. It takes them about half an hour before they are done. Glenn and Daryl get into the back as Merle starts the truck and drives down a path heading back onto the road. He stops the truck, and they move one of the cars out of the way so Merle can get the truck past. Daryl jumps out of the truck and gets back onto the bike. Daryl starts the bike, and they start to go down the road heading back to the group.
T-dog's P.O.V.
The group stood by their cars when they heard Daryl's bike. They look at the road and sees the truck behind his bike. "Whose truck is that?" Lori asks. Daryl stops his bike and climbs off, grabbing his crossbow as he does. Glenn gets out of the back of the truck as Merle opens the door and climbs out.
"Merle," T-dog says. Daryl grips his crossbow as he stares at his brother.
"Keep a hold of your dick baby brother. I ain't going to kill him as long as he doesn't piss me off," Merle says. He brings his knife gauntlet up. "Thanks for this,"
"Where did you find him?" Andrea asks.
"Blondie, how about a hug for your old pal, Merle?" Merle says with a grin
"I'm good," Andrea says to Merle. Merle looks at Shane.
"I heard you killed officer friendly," Merle says.
"Yeah, I did," Shane says. "He was my best friend. Imagine what I could do to you,"
"Understood," Merle says. He looks around the group. "Where are the others that were in Atlanta,"
"Dead," Lori says. "Amy was killed by walkers. Jim got bit, and he wanted us to leave him. Morales and his family left. Jacqui died at the C.D.C. Sophia was killed by a walker, and Dale died a day before Rick,"
"Sorry to hear that. They were good people," Merle says.
"They were," Carol says.
"You can't go the way we came. There are multiple roadblocks like this one. There are a few more roads you can take. It will take an extra few hours, but it will be safer," Merle says.
"He's joining us?" Lori asks.
"I just saved those two and killed some men in the process. When their leader finds out, he will hunt me," Merle says.
"He's joining us," Shane says. "Merle may be an asshole, but he knows what he is doing,"
"Let's go," Daryl says. They all get in their cars and turn around, following Daryl on his bike with Lori behind him.
Night
The group had stopped by a field on the side of the road. They had the cars in a circle, making a barrier. Daryl was on watch as the group was sleeping. He looks at Merle as he climbs on top of the truck and sits by his brother. "You seem close with those people,"
"They are my friends. Hell, they are my family," Daryl says.
"So you trust 'em?" Merle asks him.
"Yeah, I just met Michonne a few days ago, but Andrea trusts her, and so do I," Daryl says. He looks at Carl, who was sleeping beside his Mom. "That boy is strong. He had to shoot his father as a walker. T-dog chained the door to the roof shut with a chain. He didn't mean to drop that key. He's a good man,"
"Whatever," Merle says. "Go to sleep," Daryl climbs off the truck and goes to lay down on a sleeping bag. He looks at his brother before he goes to sleep.
Thanks for reading. Right now, Merle is the only other character I plan on bringing in from Georgia. Tell me if you want anybody else to join the group. Also, chapters might come out on different days. They will come out though. As always, suggestions, ideas, and feedback are welcomed. Until next time.
