In case I didn't hint to it with Texas, this story will crossover with Fear and its characters. I just wanted to make sure that was known, so nobody sent me a message saying this is the wrong chapter. This is What It Takes
Chapter 5-A Lucky Break
Madison's P.O.V
Madison Clark sat inside a motel with her group. Victor Strand, Luciana Galvez, Daniel Salazar, his daughter Ofelia Salazar and her two kids Alicia and Nick. They had been on the road for a few weeks now, and we're still healing from wounds they had gotten during the dam explosion. "We need more food," Ofelia says as she looks at the food they had left. "We have enough for two days at most,"
"Okay," Alicia says. "Ofelia and I will go search some of the nearby buildings,"
"Alicia," Madison says.
"We are in the best shape. Nick, Strand, and Daniel are steal healing, and you two should stay here and watch them," Alicia says.
"Okay," Madison says. "How many bullets do you have?" Alicia pulls her gun out and checks it.
"7," Alicia says. She looks at Ofelia.
"5," Ofelia says.
"We don't have much else. Only use it if you need to," Madison says. They nod. Ofelia goes over to Daniel and kisses his head as he rests. Alicia and Ofelia leave the motel.
Alicia's P.O.V
Alicia and Ofelia walk through the streets of the town they were in. There were cars on the road and trash on the ground. Alicia pulls out her knife as they get to the first store. Alicia taps the window with her knife and waits with Ofelia. "We need to find more medical supplies, too," Ofelia says. "Antibiotics would be helpful,"
"We'll see what we can find," Alicia says. Ofelia nods as a walker slams into the glass. "I'll get it,"
"I'll open the door," Ofelia says. Ofelia pulls the door open, and Alicia stabs the walker in the top of the head. She moves back and lets the walker fall to the ground. The two women go into the store and look around. Alicia pulls her bag off of her back and starts to go through the store. Alicia grabs a can of beans off the ground and puts it in her bag.
"How long do you think until we can move?" Alicia asks Ofelia.
"Hopefully, a few more days. Strand should be ready to move in a day or two. Nick and Dad have the most injuries," Ofelia says. Alicia nods as she grabs more food. Ofelia and Alicia look at the window as two walkers start to hit it.
"Leave them. We'll get them when we leave," Alicia says. Ofelia nods as they continue to look for supplies.
Madison's P.O.V
Madison pulls a bottle of water out of her bag and goes over to Nick, who was coughing. Madison opens the bottle of water and helps Nick drink it. She looks at Luciana and Strand, who were sitting in chairs. "Luciana, can you take over?" Madison asks Luciana, who nods as she walks over to Madison and Nick. Madison stands up and lets Luciana sit down with Nick. Madison walks over to Strand.
"Come on," Madison says to Strand, who looks at her.
"Where are we going?" Strand asks.
"We are going to check some of the rooms," Madison says. "We'll be in screaming range if they need us,"
"Okay," Strand says as he slowly stands up. Strand and Madison leave the room and shut the door.
"We should go get the rest of the keys in the office," Strand says. Madison nods as Strand and Madison walk towards the office. Madison and Strand open the office door and go behind the desk. Madison grabs the keys off the wall and puts them in her pocket. Strand and Madison leave the office and go to a motel room door. Madison knocks on the door and looks at Strand.
"A herd or another group are bound to come through here at some point," Madison says.
"Well, Nick and Daniel are still healing," Strand says.
"I know, Victor," Madison says. "We need to find somewhere to stay for longer than a few days,"
"If we do, it will just end up like the ranch or the dam," Strand says.
"There is someplace out there that will stand," Madison says. "We just have to find us," Madison turns the knob and opens the door, and goes inside the room. They start to look around the room. Madison opens a suitcase and pulls out a bottle of painkillers.
"That should help," Strand says as he pulls a Glock out of another suitcase. "Full clip," Strand tucks the gun in the back of his pants as Madison looks through the rest of the suitcase.
"Nothing left in here. Let's move on," Madison says. Strand nods as they leave the room.
Ofelia's P.O.V
Ofelia and Alicia knock on the door to a house and wait. They wait for a few minutes and open the door when they don't hear anything. Ofelia and Alicia look around the house and go to the kitchen. Alicia opens a cupboard and smiles at what she sees. "Ofelia," Alicia says. Ofelia looks at Alicia and looks at the cupboard. The cupboard was filled with canned food and water.
"We just hit the gold mine," Ofelia says as they hear a shotgun cock behind them.
"Drop your guns and knives," The man behind them says. "Now, before I blow your brains out," Ofelia and Alicia take their weapons out and throw them on the ground. "Turn around," Ofelia and Alicia turn around and look at the man. The man was about 6 feet tall with a hat on the top of his head and a brown beard that was graying. He held a pump-action shotgun in his hands.
"We didn't know anybody was here," Alicia says. "We knocked,"
"I was hoping you would leave," The man says. "What are your names?"
"I'm Ofelia, and this is Alicia," Ofelia says. "We'll leave," The man lowers his gun.
"There ain't no need for that. I'm Arthur," Arthur says. "Are you two hungry?" The two women slowly nod as Arthur walks past them and pulls out some bread. He pulls out peanut butter and sets them down on the counter. "Make yourselves some food,"
"You're serious?" Alicia asks.
"Believe it or not. You two are the first strangers I have seen since this has started," Arthur says. "I'm 39, and I feel like I'm 60,"
"You said, strangers. Is somebody else here?" Alicia asks.
"Yes," Arthur says. "Eat, and we can talk," Alicia and Ofelia slowly nod as they start to make food. Alicia and Ofelia make a sandwich and sit down at the table. Arthur sits across from them. "I've been slowly clearing out the town since all of this has started,"
"Yeah, we could tell," Alicia says.
"Is there anybody else with you?" Arthur asks. Alicia and Ofelia stay silent. "I get it. Stranger danger," Arthur says with a grin. He pulls off his hat showing his short brown hair. He sets the hat down. "I have a daughter upstairs. She is 12, and her name is Ruby,"
"My Mom and brother are at a motel with her Dad and our friend Strand. My brother and her Dad are healing," Alicia says.
"You have a safe home?" Arthur asks.
"We did," Ofelia says.
"Well, if you want, I can take a look at your family. I worked as a daughter before all of this," Arthur says.
"That would be nice," Alicia says. Arthur stands up and goes and grabs their weapons. He sets them down on the table before he heads upstairs. Arthur comes down a few minutes later with Ruby and a bag. Ruby had long blond hair and green eyes. She had a knife attached to her hip.
"This is my daughter, Ruby," Arthur says.
"Hey, Ruby. I'm Alicia, and this is Ofelia," Alicia says.
"Hi," Ruby says to them.
"So why don't you take us to your friends," Arthur says. Alicia and Ofelia nod as they leave the house with Arthur and Ruby.
Madison's P.O.V
Madison, Luciana, and Strand look at the door as it opens. Alicia, Ofelia, Arthur, and Ruby walk into the room. Madison and Strand grab their guns when they see the two strangers. "Woah," Alicia says. "It's okay,"
"They are here to help," Ofelia says. "Arthur, Ruby, that is Madison, Strand, Luciana, Nick, and my Dad Daniel,"
"He was a doctor before, Mom," Alicia says. Madison and Strand slowly lower their guns.
"May I?" Arthur asks as he looks at Nick and Daniel. Madison nods as Arthur pulls a bag off his bag and goes over to the men. Madison walks over to the two women.
"Where did you find him?" Madison asks.
"He was in a house on the edge of town. Mom, his house is filled with food. We need to work with him," Alicia says. Madison nods as Ruby stood in between Alicia and Ofelia as Arthur looked at Daniel and Nick. After a few minutes, he walks back over to them.
"Can they walk?" Arthur asks.
"Yeah," Strand says. "Why?"
"If you all want to, you can come to my house. We have food, and I can take better care of them there," Arthur says.
"Are you sure? We don't want to become a problem," Madison says.
"I'm sure," Arthur says. "Let's get them up and get them back to my house," They nod as Luciana helps Nick stand up, and Alicia and Ofelia help Daniel stand. They help the two men walk as they leave the motel room. They walk through the streets slowly, with the others covering them as they follow Arthur and Ruby. They get to the house, and Arthur opens the door and lets them in. "We have two rooms downstairs. We will put them in there," They nod as they take Nick and Daniel to the rooms and lay them on the beds. The two men slowly fall to sleep as the others go into the living room.
"This is a pullout bed," Arthur says.
"We'll use it," Alicia says as she motions between her and Ofelia.
"There is a bedroom in the basement with a couch and a bed. You two can share that room," Arthur says as he looks at Madison and Strand.
"I'll stay with Nick," Luciana says. They all nod as Ruby sits down.
"Let's get you all some food," Arthur says.
"Thank you," Madison says.
"There are more of them than there are of us. We need to stick together," Arthur says. "Ruby, come help me," Ruby nods as she follows her Dad into the kitchen.
"For now, this is a pretty good deal. It will be safe enough until Nick and Daniel heal," Strand says. "We need to make smart moves,"
"We will," Luciana says. The group sits in silence as they wait for Arthur and Ruby.
Night
Alicia's P.O.V
Alicia climbs in the bed beside Ofelia. Everybody had gone to bed by this point. Alicia looks at Ofelia. "You okay?" Alicia asks.
"Yeah, we did good," Ofelia says.
"Yeah, we did," Alicia says. "Get some sleep. We still have work to do," Ofelia nods as she turns and goes to sleep. Alicia closes her eyes and goes to sleep.
Thanks for reading. So first, let's address Ofelia. I know that she dies at the ranch, but I am changing that because I think she would have been really good in the later seasons. Daniel is still with the group because Ofelia is. We will be switching between Madison's group and Shane's group until they come together. Fear characters like John, June, and Al will come into the story at some point. Let me also make this clear. I have four pairings for this story. Daryl and Lori, Michonne and Andrea, Maggie and Glenn, and Ofelia and Alicia. I'm thinking about Shane and Madison, but that is not a guarantee.
