Chapter 11-Work To Do

Daryl's P.O.V

Daryl wakes up with a gasp. He looks around. It was dark outside. The group had gotten out of Alabama about two hours before and were now in Mississippi. Dary sits up in the bed of the truck. "You okay?" Glenn asks from Merle's truck. Daryl looks at him.

"Nightmare," Daryl tells him. Glenn nods.

"You want to join me?" Glenn asks Daryl, who nods as he stands up and goes over to Merle's truck. He sits down by Glenn. "What did Hershel say?"

"They'll scar-like everything else on my back," Daryl says to him. "Winters coming soon. We need to find somewhere to hold out,"

"We're almost to Texas. If we don't run into any more problems, we should get there in the next few days," Glenn says. "We are in Mississippi, so all we have left is Louisiana."

"We'll find somewhere hopefully safer than the farm," Daryl says.

"We'll find it. It is out there somewhere," Glenn says. Daryl nods. He stays with Glenn for about ten minutes before he goes back to bed.

Madison's P.O.V

Madison, Alicia, Arthur, and Strand stare at Abraham, Rosita, and John. "Come on. Let's get you, folks, up," Abraham says. He helps Madison up as Rosita helps Alicia. Arthur and Strand stand up.

"Who are you?" Alicia asks.

"I"m Sergeant Abraham Ford and these are my companions Rosita Espinosa, John Dorie, and Eugene Porter is out in the car," Abraham says.

"I'm Madison. That is my daughter Alicia, and this is Arthur and Strand," Madison says.

"Well, you guys should be happy we closed your mouth for you because you were about to eat a whole creekbed full of shit," Abraham says with a grin.

"We need to leave, Madison. More walkers will be showing up soon enough," Strand says.

"Yeah, go get the others. Can you help me with something?" Madison asks Abraham, who nods. Madison leads him through the house until they get to Nick's room.

"What happened to him?" Abraham asks.

"He wasn't bit. A damn explosion," Madison says. "Can you help me move him," Abraham nods as he goes over to Nick. He helps Nick up on his feet as Madison comes over to him. They walk Nick outside, and John and Rosita help them put him in the back of the truck. The others came out with Daniel, who was walking. They help Daniel into the back. Arthur lifts Ruby into the back.

"We need somewhere to go," John says, making Madison look at him. "I passed it on my travels. There is a baseball stadium about three hours from. It will be safe for all of you,"

"It's cleared?" Alicia asks.

"There might be a few left," John says.

"We should give them a ride," Rosita says as Eugene gets out of the car.

"No, we have already lost enough time," Abraham says.

"I agree with our companion," Eugene says. "We should show them safe passage before we move on,"

"They'll figure it out. Get back in the truck," Abraham says. Eugene stands still. "I said get in the truck!" Abraham shouts at him.

"No," Eugene says. "We will help them," Abraham grabs Eugene by the arm.

"Abraham let him go," Rosita says. Abraham pushes Eugene into the truck door.

"I'm not a scientist," Eugene says. "I lied! I lied!" Abraham punches Eugene in the face making him hit the door.

"Abraham," Rosita says. She grabs Abraham, who shoves her back. A bullet goes past Abraham's head, hitting the door. Abraham turns his head and looks at John.

"I'm going to ask you to take a setback now. I can hit you if I want to," John says. Abraham walks around Eugene and goes to the front of the truck. Arthur goes over to Eugene, who is on the ground.

"Jesus. That is one hell of a punch," Arthur says as he looks at her. "Mr. Dorie, can you help me?" John nods as he holsters his gun and comes over to him. Strand and Madison come over to.

"Let's get him in the bed as well. Alicia, Ofelia, Luciana, we will need your help," Arthur says. The three women nod as they bring Eugene over. They lift him in the bed and set him down. John walks up to Abraham.

"Get in," John tells Abraham, who doesn't move. "Get in the damn truck. We have to go!" Abraham goes to the driver's side and climbs in. John climbs in the passenger seat as the other sits in the back. "Y'all good back there?"

"The best we're going to get," Madison says. Abraham starts to truck and drives.

Alicia's P.O.V

Alicia sat in the back of the truck with the rest of the group as Abraham drove them down the road. The group was silent as Arthur looked at Eugene. "He'll be out for a little bit, but he should wake up," Arthur says. The others nod as Arthur sits down beside Ruby.

"What was he talking about. What did he lie about?" Ofelia asks Rosita.

"He told us he knew what the cure was to fix all of this. Good people have died. Abraham and I were looking for the same thing. A purpose in this fucked up world, and Eugene gave it to us," Rosita says.

"He did what he had to so he could survive," Strand says. "He used the skills he had, and that happened to be lying."

"I guess that's one way of looking at it," Rosita says. "We met John a few hours ago, and we saw the walkers and heard the gunshots. We didn't expect this when we decided to help."

"We're glad you did," Madison says. "We'll figure it out," Rosita nods as they continue to go down the road.

Daryl's P.O.V

Daryl drove his bike down the road with Carl once again on the back. It was around noon, and the group had been on the road for about four hours. Daryl slows down his bike when Merle honks his horn behind them. He pulls his bike onto the side of the road and stops it as the others do the same. He climbs off the bike and walks back to Merle's truck. Merle rolls down the window. "Low on gas," Merle tells Daryl. "Go get me a can from the jeep, and we can keep going," Daryl nods as he walks away from his brother.

"Wait in the car," He tells Shane as he walks past him. Shane nods as Daryl gets to the red jeep. He opens the trunk and grabs the gas canister. Daryl goes to Merle's truck. Merle gets out of the truck and follows his brother to the back.

"Glenn told me you woke up last night," Merle says as he pours the gas.

"It isn't any different than when we were kids. The same kind of shit," Daryl says. "Don't worry about me. I'll be fine."

"When we stop for lunch, have Hershel check those wounds," Merle says. Daryl nods as he goes back towards his bike.

Abraham's P.O.V

Abraham stops the truck outside of a baseball stadium. John climbs out as Abraham opens his door and gets out of the truck. "This is it?" Luciana asks John, who nods.

"Yeah, figured if you could turn any place safe, it would be here," John says.

"It sounds like you aren't staying," Strand says.

"John, it might be easier for you to find this girl if you do stay. You'll know where you've looked, and more people would be looking," Rosita says.

"Give it a chance at least," Alicia says.

"Fine. I will stay for a little bit," John says. The group nods as they slowly get out of the car.

"We'll stay here while you guys clear it," Alicia says as she looks at Ofelia, who nods. Madison nods as she goes towards the stadium.

"Let's get to work," Madison says as the others follow.

Thanks for reading. So next chapter will probably be a time skip of a few days to bring the main group into Texas because I am running out of ideas on the road, and it is making it very hard to write them, so I may bring the two groups together. As always, suggestions, ideas, and feedback are welcomed. Until next time.
