Chapter 16-Proving himself
Michonne's P.O.V
Michonne, Eugene, Daniel, Strand, and Andrea stared at the door as the walkers pounded on the glass. "What's the plan? We can't take out that many walkers without drawing more," Andrea says.
"We know," Strand says. Strand looks at Eugene. "Is there another way we can get in?" He questions the man.
"There may be a back entrance that we can take, but the walkers may be able to move freely through the building," Eugene says.
"Well, we didn't come here for nothing. Let's go," Michonne says as she starts to walk around the building. The others follow her. Andrea walks beside her. Strand and Daniel were behind them, and Eugene was in the back.
"If we get into trouble, he may run," Andrea quietly says to Michonne, who looks at her.
"He'll be fine," Michonne says as they get to the back of the building. They all pull their flashlights out before they go into the building.
Daryl's P.O.V
Daryl sat on a bench close to the cows watching Charlie and Carl feeding the animals. "Are they yours?" Leo asks as he walks up to Daryl.
"Nah, Carl is Lori's son, and we found Charlie in a barn not far from here," Daryl tells him.
"Oh, who is Carl's father then?" Leo asks.
"A man named Rick Grimes. He's dead," Daryl informs Leo, who nods. "The kid's strong, just like his old man," Leo nods as he sits down beside Daryl. "There will be another one here in a few months when Lori gives birth."
"She's pregnant?" Leo asks in mild shock. Daryl nods.
"Yeah, should have the baby not long after winter ends," Daryl tells him. "Gotta start looking for baby shit pretty soon." Leo doesn't say anything for a few minutes as he stares at the two children.
"What's the point?" Leo asks suddenly, making Daryl look at him.
"What do you mean?" Daryl asks him.
"What's the point in all of this? The world is over, and you'll die at some point, and all of this will be destroyed, so why build it all and create these lives for each other when they only end in death?" Leo asks. Daryl looks at him.
"You're right. The world is over. The old world is but this new one has just started, and sure it sucks as and it kicks you in the back and expects you to keep going. But before this, my life was worse, believe it or not. I got family now, and for me, I do this for them. So those two and that baby can grow up in a world that doesn't suck as much. So they can still live their lives. Yeah, I'll die at some point, but I'm not dying until I know they are safe," Daryl tells him. Leo nods as he stares at the kids. "You can still have a life even though your old one is over," The two sit in silence as they watch the kids.
Michonne's P.O.V
The group slowly walks through the school, shining their flashlights. They turn a hall and shine their flashlights on the herd of walkers. "Back!" Michonne shouts as the walkers move towards them. The group goes back into the hall. They turn another hall and come across another herd. Strand opens a door.
"In," He shouts. They all go into the room with Strand shutting it behind them. Andrea and Daniel push a desk in front of the door as the walkers start to hit it. "Fuck!" Strand exclaims as Michonne looks around the room. She looked at Eugene, who was looking around.
"What are you thinking about?" Michonne asks.
"I may have a plan to get us out of certain danger and to lock our friends outside up to get this mission done quick and clean," Eugene says. Eugene grabs a desk and moves it under a ceiling panel. Eugene goes to the board grabs a yardstick. He goes back to the desk and climbs on top of it. He pushes the ceiling panel up and out of the way.
"Eugene, your plan?" Daniel asks.
"If we move up into the ceiling and come out the other side. We can trap the walkers in this room," Eugene explains.
"Someone would have to open the door," Andrea points out.
"That is correct," Eugene says.
"I'll do it. I'm the lightest. You guys will need to pull me up," Andrea says.
"Michonne will go around and shut the door. Daniel and Strand will stay by the opening to pull Andrea up and keep the walkers inside," Eugene explains.
"Okay, let's get started," Michonne says.
Merle's P.O.V
Merle was on watch. He had taken watch from Abraham when he returned to the stadium with Glenn and Maggie. Merle watches the parking lot. He looks at Rosita as she walks over to him. "Have you seen anything?" Merle asks her. Rosita shakes her head.
"I saw a walker, but it went back into the woods," Rosita answers as she stops by Merle. "Do you think they'd attack during the day?" Rosita asks him.
"They could. I'm not putting anything past them," Merle says as he looks towards the field where Leo was talking with John and Daryl. Rosita follows his line of sight and looks at Leo.
"You think they sent him?" Rosita questions.
"As I said, I wouldn't put anything past 'em," Merle answers. Rosita looks back at the parking lot.
"Well, if they did send him, hopefully, he slips up," Rosita says to Merle, who nods.
School
No one P.O.V
Strand and Daniel layed in the ceiling, ready to pull Andrea out. Michonne was on the other side of them, looking at the hall, ready to drop down, and Eugene was in front of her. Andrea was waiting in the room. "Now!" Eugene says. In the room, Andrea pulls the door open and runs to the desk. Daniel and Strand grab her hands and starts to pull her up as the walkers fill into the room. Andrea pulls her legs up as they get her to the top and puts herself in the ceiling. Eugene nods to Michonne, who drops down.
"Come on fuckers!" Andrea shouts as the walkers fill the room. The three hit the ceiling as the walkers grab for them. Michonne moves around the hall and goes to the door as the last walker goes in. She grabs the door and pulls it shut.
"Come down," Michonne says as she walks over to them. Eugene drops down first, followed by Daniel, Strand, and Andrea. Michonne looks at Eugene with a smile. "See, we needed you," Michonne says. "Lead the way," Eugene nods as he starts to go through the halls once again. They get to the basement door, and Eugene pulls it open. They go down to the basement and stop at the bottom stair. In the room, there were guns, ammo, blankets, food, and gas cans. "Looks like you were right Eugene," Michonne says as they start to collect the supplies.
Lori's P.O.V
Lori was organizing their food. She looks at Carol as the woman walks up to her. "Hey, how are you feeling?" Carol asks Lori.
"I'm okay," Lori says as she continues. She looks at Carol. "How about you. It has been a wild few months."
"One day at a time, right?" Carol asks. Lori nods.
"Carol, I need you to promise me something," Lori says to Carol, who nods.
"Anything," Carol says.
"If I die giving birth to this baby. I need you to protect Carl. Keep him safe. I've been thinking about so much lately. He's already lost, Rick. I need to know he'll be taken care of," Lori says, her voice breaking a little. Carol wraps her arms around Lori and holds the woman. She lets her go after a few moments.
"You are not going to die because you have Arthur and Hershel. Carl is not going to lose his mother or his baby brother or sister. But if something does happen. You have my word that I will protect Carol as if he was my own," Carol says. Lori nods.
Leo's P.O.V
Leo watched as Michonne drove the truck in as well as another army truck. Both were filled with supplies. Michonne climbs out of the truck, and Daniel climbs out of the army truck. "Holy shit," Shane says as he walks up to them. "Good job, guys."
"Credit goes to Eugene. He found the place and got us out of a jam," Andrea says.
"I was just doing what was necessary to ensure me and my companions made it home," Eugene explains. Shane nods with a small smile as the group starts to unload the supplies. They spent the rest of the day unloading the supplies, and that night, Leo stood at the top of the stadium with a radio that was in his bag. He was supposed to call Ivy and tell her everything that he had found out, but something was holding him back. Leo put the radio away before he walked away to go to bed.
