Prologue: Kindergarten Begins

Izuku watched as the two team captains picked from the line of four or five-year-olds. The first one to be picked was a boy with a Quirk that gave him freakishly muscular arms. Even at this age, you could see a bulge through the hoodie he was wearing as he flexed his arms. He had the perfect Quirk for a game like this.

Then, a boy with spiky blonde hair and red eyes picked a girl who could pick up things with her mind. A good ability to have if you needed to resupply teammates. This boy must be smarter than the other, he was going for the tactical advantages that weren't obvious. To show off, the girl picked up three rubber balls from the half-court line and held them above her head.

The next pick was a fairly obvious one. A girl with green hair similar to Izuku's who could separate her body from itself and control each one of them. Then, the spiky-haired boy needed to make another selection from the remaining picks, which was three total, including Izuku. After he looked over them all, the loud boy shouted, "You, with the tail! You look pretty strong, you're on my team!" Izuku walked over to his team as the remaining two students were divided onto either team by the Physical Education teacher.

When their last member joined the three of them, a large girl with a third eye, their team ran to the other side of the gym and huddled together. "Alright," the boy began. "I'm gonna lead the attack against them. My explosions are good enough to make me faster than anyone else here, so I'll get as many balls as I can. You three just stay here and be ready to catch whatever comes your way!" The captain broke the huddle and lined up on the baseline, getting into a runner's stance, except his hands were out behind him.

Recently, the laws in Japan had changed enough to allow minor Quirk usage on school grounds. Sure, you couldn't use them to help you on a test or anything, but in Physical Education, any usage that didn't result in injury was okay. Izuku and his other two teammates stood still, waiting for their captain to retrieve the balls.

The instant the teacher shouted, "Go!" the team captain was running towards the half-court line, where five rubber balls were laying. The explosive boy was able to grab three of them and toss them behind him before the other team made it there, the girl who could control her limbs grabbing two while still standing on the baseline on their side of the gym.

The girl handed a ball to her teammate on her immediate right as Izuku caught one of the balls the captain had thrown into the air. Izuku saw out of the corner of his eye the muscular boy running towards him, a red rubber ball in hand. As he barrelled towards him, he cocked back an arm, ready to throw the ball. At the very last second, Izuku jumped as high as he could into the air. While he ascended, Izuku saw his head reach higher than even the rim of the basketball hoop. For some flair, the green haired boy did his best version of a backflip, which ended up being more of a one hundred eighty degree flip. Thankfully, he was caught by the physic girl and sat back down upright. "Don't be flashy," she warned, "Just get the job done." Izuku nodded and returned his focus to the game.

Izuku saw that the last person to be added to their team was now out, with the outline of a big ball over one of their eyes. There was already some swelling. That was probably from the muscular one. Speaking of, with a loud boom, the captain of his team threw a ball that seemed to tear through the air around it, hitting the strongest one there solidly on his hind leg, sending him falling down onto the ground. He quickly picked himself back up and marched off to the sideline, albeit limping and pouty about it.

But, the captain was hit suddenly in the back of the head. Izuku and the captain looked to see what had happened, and it had been because of the detachable limbs of the green haired girl. There floated an arm, holding the ball that had bounced off his head. "Come on!" he shouted at the teacher. "That can't be legal! That's breaking the only damn rule!"

The teacher shrugged and said, "Her feet didn't cross the line. I don't get paid enough to care, anyways."

The captain stormed off, looking ready to punch the next person he spoke to. Izuku made sure to keep one eye on the limb that remained and the other on his two opponents. At least he had the physic girl on his side still.

As he looked to check if he was correct in assuming such a thing, he saw two balls collide in mid-air so perfectly that they zoomed back towards the two throwers. Now, his teammate was out and so was the other one who had been forced into that team, the triclops. The green haired girl flashed him a grin, showing her sharp, shark-like teeth. It freaked Izuku out, but he reminded himself to keep his head in the game. She was still missing an arm, which meant it had to be around here somewhere while she waited for the best moment to strike.

Both sides' members who were out began to cheer, knowing that whoever who would survive would win for their team. "You're going down!" shouted the blonde boy who was their team captain.

"Oh yeah!? What's this kid gonna do, catch a ball with his tail?" the other team captain shouted back. The team captain, who Izuku remembered vaguely playing with on the playground once a couple days ago and who was in his homeroom, smirked in response.

Izuku looked at his tail, knowing it was a weak point on his body, something he had discovered in a game of tag, wrapped it around his waist so it wasn't out in the open. Izuku flashed the girl a confident smile as he bent down and picked up a ball. "Let's end it! Right here and right now!" the girl declared as her lost arm returned to its body. Izuku nodded.

The girl launched a ball towards him. The speed surprised him, because she was pretty frail, but he had heard his mother say to not judge based on appearances. After all, even though Izuku looked like a toothpick, he was pretty strong himself. Izuku reached out for the ball, ready to catch it. Then, he was hit by another ball that hit his ankle. Stunned, Izuku looked to see what it was as the teacher called the game.

As the bell rang, Izuku saw a single hand hovering at his side. The hand gave him a peace sign before returning to the girl. Still in a little bit of shock, Izuku walked out of the gym and began to walk to the cafeteria.

Their class filed into line slowly, the energy from summer break still very evident in each of them. Except for those who had just had Physical Education, who were all exhausted from the hour they had spent in a game of dodgeball. Even though it hadn't felt like it, they had been at it for multiple games. Each time, someone else was the captain. Izuku would've been the leader of one of the teams in the next round if that game in particular hadn't taken so long.

Izuku ended up in line next to the kid who had been the one to pick him in the last game. "What's your name?" the angry boy asked.

"Izuku Midoriya, why?" he responded.

"I wanna know who all could become heroes out of this dumpster fire of a school," the boy responded. "You seem to be a lot brighter than that muscled up punk," he said, gesturing towards the boy showing off his muscles to a pair of girls, much to their amusement. "That's something a good hero needs, and you have the ability to back it up. You jumped up pretty high during that last game."

Ignoring the fact that he had been complimented by the boy, something that seemed unlikely from him, Izuku asked, "What's your name, then?"

"Katsuki Bakugou, and keep that name in mind. When you're a hero, you're gonna be looking up toe, because I'm gonna be number one!" proclaimed the newly dubbed boy. Katsuki turned around and looked for someone. He soon found whoever it was he was looking for and ran off, returning with the green haired girl who had single handedly won the game for her team.

"You're sitting with us," Katsuki demanded from the girl, much to her outcry.

"You aren't telling me what to do!" she shouted, letting her hand pop off from the rest of his body, making Katsuki fall to the ground as any weight that he had been holding onto disappeared. Landing on his back, Katsuki cussed and slowly stood back up.

"He means well," Izuku said to the girl. "He just thinks that you could become a hero, or at least, that's why I assume he wants you to sit by us." The girl rolled her eyes at Katsuki.

"Fine, but if you try something like that again, I'm kicking you ass," the girl said to Katsuki, who faked a smile. It was one of those really toothy grins that you could tell pained a person to make.

After an awkward silence and nearly making it to the front of the line, the girl said, "Sorry for being rude. I'm Setsuna Tokage, it's nice to meet you both." After both Izuku and Katsuki introduced themselves, the trio ordered their food and sat down at the nearest lunch table. The three began to talk, and Izuku noticed that, once everyone had went through the line, they were the only ones at their table. "What's that about?" Izuku questioned, making it clear he was talking about the lack of any other table mates.

Setsuna sighed, not seeming to be her usual cheery self. "It's my Quirk. It freaks people out, y'know? They find a stray arm or a leg every once in a while when it goes haywire, and word spreads."

"They're dumb," Izuku said.

"Huh?"

"I said 'they're dumb'. You're amazing, Tokage!" Izuku exclaimed. "You're Quirk is so versatile, if you detach all of your limbs you could technically fly! It'd be a really good tactic to misdirect a villain, too. Besides that, you could become an amazing hero if you just work hard!" Izuku explained, planning to write down all the info he had on her Quirk at some point, preferably as soon as possible.

Katsuki picked up where he left off. "If anyone tried to put you down for your Quirk, kick their ass until they change their mind!" he shouted, emboldening Setsuna greatly.

She nodded and quietly said, "Okay."

The three soon got to work, eating their food. However, what they were surprised by was the speed at which Izuku ate his food. And then, Izuku took out a lunch box the size of an entire backpack. The look of shock on their faces as Izuku retrieved a mountain of food out of his lunch box was priceless. Before they finished their trays, Izuku had finished his and the food from his lunchbox. "You're like a vacuum cleaner when you're eating!" Setsuna exclaimed.

After Izuku gave one big gulp, swallowing the remainder of his food, he said, "Yeah, I've always been a bit of a big eater. Mom has to make a lot of food for me, I think it has something to do with my Quirk. My strength makes me a lot hungrier than some usually is."

"You can say that again, I mean shit, that's enough food to feed our entire class!" Katsuki said. "Midoriya, you're something else."

Izuku smiled, unsure if that was a good thing or a bad thing. He stood up to go take his tray back to the cooks, feeling good about how the school year had started
