Thanksgiving With The Morgan's-Ch 15
As they walked up path Derek gently squeezed her hand, he loved her so much and he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her and introducing her to his father was very important to him. Derek's father had been shot and killed on duty as a police officer when Derek was a little boy and growing up fatherless was hard on Derek and if it hadn't been for his mom and sisters he doesn't know how he would have made it.
It didn't take long and soon they were standing in front of a huge tombstone that read, "HANK MORGAN, BELOVED HUSBAND, FATHER AND FRIEND", she gently squeezed his hand and weakly smiled. Derek cleared his throat and said, "dad, this is her, this is my baby girl, this is the love of my life, she's the beautiful woman I've been telling you about all this time".
Penelope looked at Derek and then the tombstone and said, "Mr. Morgan sir, you have an amazing son, he is the love of my life, he is the sole owner of my heart and he is one of the bravest and strongest men I have ever known". Derek stood listening as she continued by saying, "I'd say he's a lot like you sir and you would be so so proud of him just like I am", Derek smiled and said, "see dad what did I tell you, is she a keeper or what".
Derek glanced down at Penelope and said, "every time I come to Chicago I come here and visit pops, I fill him in on everything that's happening with me at work and with you", she said, "me"?, he said, "of course baby girl, when a man wants to marry the love of his life, he wants his parents to know about it and her".
Penelope said, "wait, what, did you say marry, you want to marry me"?, he laughed and said, "well duhhhhh baby girl, I told you on multiple times in the past few days that I want to spend the rest of my life with you, what did you think that meant"?, she said, "well I" and he said, "I want to marry you, I want to take you on a wonderful honeymoon and I want us to have beautiful babies, lots and lots of beautiful babies".
She grinned and said, "I I I want that too Derek", he said, "I wasn't going to do this here, I wanted to take you someplace romantic butttttt, I can't wait any longer" and she watched as he pulled out a small black box and dropped to one knee. She covered her mouth with her hand as he opened the box and blew out a deep as he readied to ask her the most important question that a man could ask a woman.
Penelope looked up at him as he said, "Penelope, baby girl, will you do me the honor of marrying me and spending the rest of our lives together"?, he smiled at her and said, "will you marry me"?, she said, "yes, yes Derek of course I'll marry you". He pulled the ring from the box and slid it onto her finger, she squealed and said, "I love you" as she dropped to her knees and threw her arms around his neck.
Derek turned his head to look at his fathers tombstone and said, "she said yes dad, she said yes", he said, "well dad it's cold today and I don't want my girl to get sick so we're gonna head back to momma's". They stood up and Derek said, "everybody is doing good pop, mom and the girls all love you and miss you pop", he sighed and said, "I love you and miss you dad".
He then looked at Penelope and said, "we better get home, I know that you're dying to tell ma and the girls", Penelope smiled and said, "well you know I am" but before they left Penelope walked over and touched Hanks headstone and said "I promise that I will love, honor and cherish him forever" causing Derek to grin and say, "and I'll love, honor and cherish her dad as long as their is life left in this body".
They stood silently for a few seconds before they turned around and headed back to the SUV and the entire ride back to his moms house all Penelope could do was smile and look down at the beautiful engagement ring that now lay on her finger. When they pulled into the driveway Derek walked around to her side of the truck and opened the door, they intertwined fingers and headed toward the front door/
When they walked through the front door Fran looked up and said, "I have a surprise for you", Derek said, "us first momma, us first", she stood looking and said, "okay, you first". Penelope raised her left hand and Derek said, "she said yes momma, she said yes", Fran threw her arms around both of them and said, "that's wonderful, congratulations, I'm so happy that the two of you are getting married".
As Fran opened her mouth to tell them her surprise a voice in the background said, "WELL IT'S ABOUT TIME", Derek and Penelope looked up to see the one and only David Rossi standing there with a huge smile on his face
