Akira waits outside for Lupin. He looks at the phone in his hand. There was a lot on his mind. Would he be successful with just him and Lupin? Akira shakes his head. They had to be, he thought. Lupin comes out of the building.
"So kid," He says "are we ready to do this or what?"
"I'm as ready as I can be." Akira says. "I'm a bit nervous about all this."
"Hey it'll be fine! Even if we can't get it today, we can always try again!" Akira stares at him.
"No, we can't. Once the window of opportunity passes, we can't try again."
"Oh." Lupin rubs in head. "Well, no worries! You have me, and I'm almost always successful at my heists"
"That makes me feel a little better actually. Thanks."
"No problem." Akira touches the mementos app and presses it. A familiar red and black portal takes him and Lupin to Bando's courthouse.
"Looks really cool now that I'm seeing it again." Lupin says. Joker agrees with that. Joker looks at the building again. If he remembered right, the treasure door was on the third floor.
"Stay close to me." Joker says. "You may be a excellent thief, but you're still just human. It'd be best to let me do the fighting."
"No way!" Lupin says "I held my own just fine last time! I don't need to be watched over." Joker thinks about it.
"Alright." He says "You can fight but you have to be at least a foot behind me."
"Deal." Lupin says. Then they begin to storm the courthouse Joker jumps into shadowy places for cover with Lupin close behind.
"By the way," Lupin says quietly. " What does the treasure look like?"
"I don't know.' Joker says "It's different every time. The treasure also becomes different in the real world. It's an item that represent the start of their distorted desires.
"Oh I see." Lupin says "That's interesting." They stop when they spot a lone guard blocking the hallway. Joker jumps on it's back and pulls it's mask off. the shadow devolves into three enemies. Joker took two down with Red Rider while Lupin shoots the third one. They kill more enemies along the way till they reach the fifth floor. Joker looks into the room to find no one in there. Both of them look to each other. They knew that something was up. Joker takes out a bullet and throws it into the room. A long tongue grabs it and pulls it up.
"I know you're there, thieves." Bando says, his voice much more distorted. "Come in and face justice!"
"I'll go in and face him." Joker says "he's in a form too dangerous for you. You wait here until the door opens." Lupin wanted to complain, but Joker already entered. Joker looked up to find a monstrous chameleon with a long neck and holes in it's back. It looked down at Joker with hatred. Joker summons Arsene and the fight begins. The holes in the chameleon's back started spewing black goo. The goo then transforms into the bailiffs. Lupin saw a chance to help then. He started shooting at the bailiffs that wanted to attack Joker. Joker was busy using Arsene to attack Bando's head. A long tonuge shoots out at Joker to grab him but he dodges.
Lupin dispenses three more bailiffs before turning around. Some shadows were coming up the stairs to help Bando. Lupin couldn't have that, so he grabs a explosive from his jacket and shoots it when it lands on the stairs. The stairs explode and the shadows get destroyed. Meanwhile with Joker, he's starting to wear out. Bando's tougher than he thought. He really wished his team was here. Lupin starts shooting again, getting rid of more bailiffs. This goes on for a while before Bando has had enough.
He shoots his tounge at Lupin. Joker attempts to shoot it, but gets grabbed by Bando's tail. Lupin dodges the tongue. He aims his walther at Bando's head an fires. It does nothing. Lupin enters the room with worry. Bando was squeezing Joker. Joker's mask was on at the moment, so he couldn't call on Arsene. Lupin stares at them, they were almost there. The real vault should open any minute now. He had to stall.
"Hey ugly, Put him down!" He shouts. Bando stops squeezing. He looks at Lupin
"And why should I?" He says in a smug voice.
"If you do, we'll leave." Lupin says, taking a step towards them. Joker shakes his head
"I don't believe you!" Bando says.
"You should, we only get one shot at this before it's gone forever." He takes another step.
"Only one?" Bando says.
"Yeah. Let's face it, you're too strong. Being a gentleman thief, I know when I'm beat." One more step. Bando says nothing.
"C'mon, let me take the kid and we'll leave." Lupin takes one last step before he's below Joker. Before Bando respond, Lupin pulls out a dagger and throws it into Bando's tongue. He screams and drops Joker. Just then, the vault opens. It revealed a golden egg. Joker summons Arsene one last time for an all out attack while Lupin grabs the egg. Bando goes down with one last scream before turning back into a normal shadow.
"It's not fair!" He cries "That treasure's is mine! You can't take it!
"We can and we did." Lupin says, giving with egg to Joker.
"But, it's the only thing that proves I'm good enough." He cried. "Without it, I'm nothing."
"That's not true," Joker says. "Treasure like this doesn't make you a good lawyer, your skill does. It's a shame you turned out like this, you could have really helped people with your skill."
"I did want to help once." Bando said. "But then, I eventually thought I wouldn't be good enough without fake evidence. Oh god, what do I do?
"Confess." Jokers says. Bando smiles sadly before disappearing into himself.
"Oh I forgot" Joker says, turning to Lupin. "Something happens when we successfully take the treasure."
"Really? What's that?" Just then, the courthouse starts to rumble.
"The palace falls apart" Joker runs to the stairs but Lupin grabs him.
"I blew them up, let's go out the window again!" Joker nods before they both jump out of the window and into the bushes. The two of them run to the exit. They barely make it as the red and black portal envelops them. They make it out to the real world in a huff. Akira looks around. It was finally over. They had won. Akira looked at the treasure in his hand. It was a folder. Looking inside revealed that this was Bando's first ever case he had won.
"So, that's what made him bad." Lupin said, staring at the folder. "He got cocky after winning his first case. Narcissism really is a bitch, huh?"
"In a few days, he'll be the one on trial." Akira said. He turns to Lupin with a relieved smile on his face. "Thank you so much! If you hadn't been there, I wouldn't have been able to do this. Just, thank you!"
"Hold your horses, kid, you're too much!" Lupin says. "You're the one that really put in the effort back there." I don't know what I would have don't without you telling me how everything works." The two stare at each other in silence before Lupin turns around. "Well, I gotta get back to Goemon and Jigen, they're probably wondering where I've been the whole heist. "
"You gonna get an earful?" Akira asks.
"Definitely." He says. "It's been fun kid, I mean it." He prepares to leave but Akira stops him.
"Wait!" He cries. "Will I ever see you again?"
"That depends really." Lupin replies. "Life is mysterious kid, but if you're lucky, you might see me again." Akira nods at that. He waves at Lupin and Lupin waves back. It was finally time for Akira to go home. Taking the train, he reads articles about Lupin's recent heist. they got away without fail. He smiles and reads the rest before finally stopping at his town. He walks to Cafe LeBlanc while thinking of his own heist. It had been so surreal that he was able to meet Lupin's descendent and got to go on and adventure with him. he will never forget it for as long as he lives. He enters the Cafe and is greeted by Morgana.
"You're finally back!" The cat says. "Where were you?"
"On a heist." Akira said.
"No really, where were you?"
"I'm not lying." Akira tells him of the adventure he had excluding Lupin because he didn't want to tell Morgana he had leaked his secret to yet another person. Morgana was speechless for a moment before finally saying "You did a heist without me? You completed it alone?! You're really amazing Akira!" Morgana meant what he said, but Akira could tell that he was a little hurt that he wasn't included.
"I'll bring everyone next time." Akira says. "I'm never doing a heist alone again."
"You better not!" Morgana says. "Doing it alone is dangerous!" Akira yawns, suddenly feeling tired.
"I'm gonna go to bed." Akira says before going up the stairs.
"Good night Akira!" Morgana says. Akira goes up to his familiar room. It was nice to be back. He goes to sit on his bed when something catches his eye. A letter was by his bedside. He picks it up. It read to Akira from Lupin the 3rd. He opened it quickly to find a single watch fall out onto the bed. He also finds a note inside the envelope.
"Hey kid," The letter says. "Since the case file isn't of any value, I decided to give you one of Bando's watches as compensation. I really enjoyed our time together. Hopefully we team up in the future again. Yours, Lupin the Third." Akira smiles. He puts the watch in his pocket and walks to his table. He grabs some tape and tapes the letter in a hidden spot only he could find. He then crashed on the bed, feeling exhausted. He looks to the night sky. He will never forget the adventure he had with Lupin. He closes his eyes. The last thing he thinks about was his new friend.
