Game of Conquest
Chapter 1 - The Conqueror's Starting Session.
[Booting...]
...Why am I seeing blue words?
I can't feel my body, I can't even shake my head or twitch a single finger. The scenery around me is all black and the only thing I can see are neatly written blue words floating just right in front of me.
[Loading...]
'Ok, calm down and think.' I let out a deep breath even though I don't know if I can and try to recall my last memories. I remember a car horn, a sudden flash, tremendous pain, a terrified scream, the sound of glass breaking, another surge of pain, blackening vision...
And then nothing. My memories end there.
There is no mistake about it.
I died, hit by a fucking truck while I was going home from work.
Just what bad deeds did I do when I'm alive to deserve death at the youthful age of 24? What about my family? My father and mother are already old, and they only have me a single child. How would they feel about this?
God, I can't even imagine.
[Congratulation, Lucky One. You have been chosen to become the Beta Tester of The Conqueror's System.]
An emotionless female voice rang out in my head as the blue words in front of me changed.
Lucky One? Lucky One?
I just fucking died and it said I died because I was lucky? What the heck?
What the emotionless voice said made me angry. But that doesn't mean I miss the hidden meaning behind what it has just said.
I think I know what shit have I gotten myself into now…
…Or should I say dragged into?
The Conqueror's System, a strange voice in my head and my sudden death caused by Truck-kun of all things. All of it points to only one possible conclusion.
That is I have been Isekai'ed.
But instead of joy and excitement, knowing that I will get a second chance to walk the Earth again, I feel strangely conflicted about the whole thing. As an Otaku who loves reading webnovel and fanfic, I have read a lot of Isekai stories about a main character reincarnated into another world and given a powerful system.
Most of them would then lead a wonderful and glorious life surrounded by beauties and having enough power to shake the world. No matter what obstacles stand in their way, no matter how hard their starting situation is, they all reach there at the end of the journey.
To be honest, now that I have become a member of the 'Army of Isekai'ed People' and possess The Conqueror's System, I can safely assume that I have become a main character in a webnovel too.
And that's why I'm having complicated feelings about this.
Before all of this, I'm just an ordinary young man living an uninteresting, ordinary life. I wake up, go to work, go back home, play some games, read webnovel, sleep, repeat. Aside from hoping for a kind, beautiful wife and a good job, I have no other dream or ambition.
It's uneventful and boring. But it's a life of peace and quiet.
And it's MY life.
But now that I have possibly become a main character in a story, is my life really mine now? Or is it just a story for others to read and entertain themselves?
Am I still myself? Or have I become a puppet of the Author without even realizing it?
Was my past life all staged? What about my future? What about my family?
These thoughts… are these really mine?
God, I think I'm going crazy…
Conqueror, you have been given the following items to begin your conquest:
-Palace of Conquest - Unique (Already in use): The extravagant palace the chosen Conqueror lives in, indestructible by any means and has unlimited space inside.
*Only one Palace of Conquest can exist in the entire multiverse.
*Inside the palace, the Conqueror is invincible.
-[Ruler] Class Summoning Ticket (90 AP) x1: Summon a random [Ruler] Class to your faction and increase her Affection Point by 90.
-Soldier Summoning Ticket x30: Summon a basic soldier the same race as the [Ruler] Class. Can only be used by a [Ruler] Class.
-Civilian Summoning Ticket x100: Summon a civilian the same race as [Ruler] Class. Can only be used by a [Ruler] Class.
-1000 Golds; 1000 Foods.
Such a heartless system, ignoring my feelings and just doing its job as programmed.
Then again, maybe the Author just wants me to stop brooding already.
It's true that I have conflicted feeling about this whole thing, but what can I do? A character dies and lives at the whims of the Author. Brooding does me no good, and I don't want to die again so soon.
This whole situation is like you are working under a guy you hate. You don't like him, but you have to work to earn your salary, and that guy can kick your ass out of the company if you anger him. Just, the salary is your life, and being kick out means death. What will you do?
Accept your death gallantly like a fool? Or endure it a bit to live a better life?
The answer is rather obvious, at least to me. Besides, I'm actually rather interested in finding out what my 'cheat' is too.
After all, what Isekai fan doesn't want to have their own cheat system?
Hm…
So, my new home and base of operation are indestructible even if a nuclear warhead is dropped on it? I don't have to fear any assassins too because I'm invincible while inside?
That's great. With the 'Palace of Conquest', even if I messed up and became an enemy of the world, I would still be safe as long as I stayed inside. Since the system is called 'The Conqueror's System', war is inevitable in the future. So having a broken defensive item like the 'Palace of Conquest' put my heart at ease a little.
Next is a golden ticket the size of a plane ticket as hard as iron. There is nothing special to it, no mysterious runes or magic patterns, only the word '[Ruler] Summoning Ticket' on both sides.
...
…Isn't this Author too lazy? What is this boring design?
And, why is it classified [Ruler]? Are there other classes, like Fate?
[There are two classes, [Ruler] and [Hero]]
[[Ruler] Classes are generally leaders of their race or tribe, not only powerful Hero Skills, they also possess unique Ruler Skills which greatly help The Conqueror in managing his territory]
[[Hero] Classes are generally important figures of their race or tribe, possessing strong Hero Skills and unique Sub-Ruler Skills specialized in supporting their [Ruler]]
I see.
So, to put it bluntly, I have a [Ruler] and a [Hero]. Both of them are my subordinates, but the [Hero] answers to both the [Ruler] and me while the [Ruler] only answers to me, right?
It's an orderly and organized chain of command seeing that [Hero] and [Ruler] of the same race are obviously made to work together. As long as I group up all the [Hero] and [Ruler] of the same race and let them take care of their own people, even a complete noob like me can manage a decent job, I think.
So that's why they give out a [Ruler] Summoning Ticket as starting bonuses. To make sure that I won't screw up and the story ends as soon as it begins. The starting 90 Affection Points must be there to make sure the [Ruler] doesn't betray me as soon as they are summoned, which is a welcome factor. With this, even if I manage to summon an ambitious and evil [Ruler] Class, they won't kill me.
Hm…
[Do you want to use '[Ruler] Summoning Ticket (90 AP)' x1]
And I'm wondering how to use it when I can't move my body.
Yes!
[Congratulations, Conqueror! You have summoned [Ruler] Class - Morgan le Fay]
[Ruler] Class – Morgan le Fay
Origin: Fate/Grand Order
Race: Fairy
Affection Point: 90 (Till death does us apart)
Morgan from F/GO!
Ah, my dearest wife, I'm so touched that you come to me even after I have been reincarnated into another world. Is this what they call reunion even in death?
*cough*
Jokes aside, it seems like I hit the jackpot with my first summon. With a gorgeous design and excellent gameplay, I have fallen in love with Morgan since the first day she was released. It's exciting just thinking about seeing one of my beloved waifu in the flesh. I'm really looking forward to meeting her right now.
Her beauty aside, Morgan's ability as a [Ruler] Class is also unquestionable, both Pan Human History Morgan and Lostbelt Morgan. The former had once ruled over Britain alongside Uther while the latter had been managing Lostbelt Britain for 2000 years. But, if it's possible, I want the Morgan I summoned to be Lostbelt Morgan.
Not only is she more powerful than her counterpart in Pan Human History, her personality is also better. She still has a heart that is capable of giving and accepting love. No matter how much she changes, she can't changes the fact that she has once been called 'Tonelico the Savior'.
[Ruler] Class - Morgan le Fay – Ruler Skills:
-Avalon le Fae (Unique): Unlock Fairy race for civilians and soldiers. The Conqueror can now designate summon Barghest, Baobhan Sith, Melusine, Habetrot, and Artoria Avalon via Summoning Ticket.
*It's not possible to summon another Fairy-related [Ruler] Class.
-Lostbelt Britain (Unique): Turn territory of choice into Lostbelt Britain and manifest Camelot installed with 12 Rhongomyniads (Uncharged) on its walls.
*There can only be one Lostbelt Britain that exists at the same time.
-Evil Queen of the Fairy: Faction Satisfaction -10; Obedience +20; Public order +10. These effects are doubled on Fairy.
-Talented: Faction Food Production +20%; Gold Income +20%
So, it's Lostbelt Morgan after all. I'm glad.
Honestly, if it's Pan Human History Morgan, I don't know if I can love her the same way I love Lostbelt Morgan. They are just too different from each other.
Summoning Morgan unlocks the Fairy race and prevents other Fairy race [Ruler] Classes from being summoned. Based on this piece of info alone, I can safely assume that to unlock a new race, I have to summon their [Ruler] Class first, and each race can only have one [Ruler].
A mountain can't have two tigers.
Morgan alone taking care of all the Fairy is enough. To Morgan anyone who interferes with her rule is evil. Having another Fairy race [Ruler] will possibly cause a civil war.
Not only Morgan, but all rulers are like that, so each race can only have one king or queen is a good thing to do.
On a side note, it's good to know that I can now designate summon Barghest, Baobhan Sith, Melusine, Habetrot, and Artoria Avalon. A pleasant surprise to be honest. I don't especially like any of them save for Artoria, so I don't feel too much joy. But it's not like I dislike them either so I think I will be summoning them later when I know how to get more Summoning Ticket.
Moving on, 'Lostbelt Britain' is really a cheat! Turning territory of choice into 'Lostbelt Britain' will ensure the fairies have a suitable environment for them to live in. And what suits them better than their own hometown?
Well, that's good and all, but it's only the second reason I call 'Lostbelt Britain' a cheat.
Manifesting Camelot with 12 Rhongomyniads installed on its walls is what makes this skill broken. It must be known that each Rhongomyniad has enough power to inflict Divine Punishment according to canon!
Such unstoppable power and yet, its striking range is unimaginable too! In canon, Morgan has used it to destroy the Fantasy Tree in Lostbelt Olympus while sitting on her throne in Lostbelt Britain!
They are like nuclear warheads that can be launched from Camelot to decimate the enemy!
Even though they are all uncharged at the moment, and it will take quite a long while until I can use them, I'm still pleased with this.
Moving on, it seems like Public Order, Satisfaction and Obedience are important stats I need to keep a watch on while managing my territory. After inquiring the system, I managed to get a rough grasp on what these stats mean and their importance.
Satisfaction shows how happy people are with their life. When Satisfaction reaches 0, even if Obedience is 100, a revolution will occur. This usually happens when the ruler is a tyrant who rules through fear. On the outside, the people listen and support the ruler, but in their hearts, they only want to kill him.
Morgan is the perfect example of this. She is talented, as expected of the woman who ruled over Lostbelt Britain for 2000 years, but her extreme method made the fairy hate her. Even if the cause for Morgan's action is 'defending Britain', in the fairy's eyes, she is still an Evil Queen, and thus they kill her.
Unlike Satisfaction, which is easy to explain, Obedience is a bit more complex. But it can be understood as how much respect the people give to their ruler. And, just like Satisfaction, if Obedience reaches 0, a coup will occur. This usually happens when the ruler is a kind heart, weak will individual who doesn't have the respect of his people.
Seriously, ruling is hard work.
Too hard and you will be called a tyrant. Too kind and you will be called weak. People are just that hard to please. Thankfully, with the system, I can see what is happening in my territory and fix it before it becomes trouble.
But even then, ruling is hard work.
Moving on, Public Order reflects how safe and organized your territory is. The reason I said this stat makes things difficult is that it decreases ALL other stats when it gets low, including resources production rates! And when it reaches, 0, a rebellion will occur!
I have to admit, even the Total War series isn't that difficult.
Fortunately, I have Morgan at my side. As an experienced Queen, she will surely handle my early territory with ease. Morgan might be an Evil Queen, but I can trust her with that. Besides, with me around, she probably won't fail a second time.
I won't allow it to happen.
[Your starting session ends here, Conqueror!]
[Your first quest will be delivered to you once you leave this space.]
[Good luck with your Conquest.]
So, it's finally time the story begins for real. The moment I leave this space, I will have to face a lot of bullshits thrown at me courtesy of the Author…
…I'm really not looking forward to it, but at the same time, I'm kinda excited.
Seeing my 2D-turned-real waifu Morgan le Fay! And various other characters too, as long as I can get more Summoning Ticket!
And then, there is a whole new world too! Will it be anime-based, or game-based?
Just the thought make my heart beat faster even though I had conflicted feeling about my sudden Isekai.
[Returning in 3…2…1]
