"Oof!"
Todoroki hit the ground hard.
"Come on, Todoroki. You'll need to go even further than that" Midoriya said. "Go all out on me!".
Todoroki got up and shot a barrage of ice at Midoriya.
Midoriya dodged each attack and used the ice a foot holds to get closer. Midoriya landed a solid punch with his right arm on Todoroki's stomach.
Todoroki fell down, trying to catch his breath.
"Again!" Midoriya said, getting ready for Todoroki to attack. "I won't stop until you realize what you're doing wrong".
Todoroki attacks again with a much larger ice barrage trying to leave no openings for Midoriya, but Midoriya punched through the first barrage with his new upgrade, the Jackhammer fist. His uses the Extendable hand which use to act like a grappling hook, and modified it to act like a piston instead. Todoroki kept his guard up by creating a thick layer of ice around him. Midoriya combined the Jackhammer fist with his heat module to melt the ice and punch through. Everything Todoroki tried against Midoriya failed.
Todoroki sat on the floor in defeat. Midoriya extended his left hand to help him back up onto his feet.
The two looked directly at each other and since they started their training together, Midoriya grew to the same height as Todoroki.
"Todoroki, the problem is obvious, you're not using everything you got, you're using one quirk, while you have two" said Midoriya.
"I'm not gonna use it" said Todoroki, frustrated. "I won't use my old man's quirk".
Midoriya understands why he doesn't want to use his fire quirk. Shoto is Endeavor's son, and Endeavor was well known for being ruthless and ambitious.
"Are you afraid, that you will turn out exactly like him?" Midoriya asked Todoroki.
"No... well, partly... but the real reason is that I don't want to give him the satisfaction of using it" said Todoroki.
"And that's gonna benefit him how, exactly?" Asked Midoriya rhetorically.
Todoroki paused to think about it before Midoriya explained to him.
"You're too stuck up on the history of this quirk. Of course, Endeavor used it to abuse your mother, and he hurt you while using it, but now, it's your quirk. What it was used for before you inherited it is not what matters, its what you make of it now that matters." Todoroki stopped to take in Midoriya's words.
"Now. One more time. Come at me!" Midoriya said as he backed away and went into his fighting stance.
Todoroki finally activated his fire quirk. Both Midoriya and Todoroki wore a smile on their faces.
Midoriya advances as Todoroki shoots an ice barrage and waited for Midoriya to come closer. Midoriya used the ice as foot holds again, but wasn't ready for the fire aimed directly at him. Midoriya put his arm in the way to reduce the damage and carried on moving closer. Todoroki got himself ready for another fire blast. Both of them clashed with a fire blast knocking Midoriya back a split second after Midoriya connected a hook with his right arm to Todoroki's chest, knocking him back too.
Both of them laid on the floor laughing it out. Todoroki looked at his watch and had to get up and go to class, Midoriya stayed in the gym to do his regular workout routine. Todoroki left for class with a smile on his face and everyone noticed as he walked in.
"What's with the smile, Todoroki? Something good happened?" asked Kirishima.
"No. Just training" Todoroki said without saying another word.
The day of the Sports Festival...
Midoriya took his role as doctor for the Sports Festival. For the most part, it was uneventful on his side, but was excited to notice that there is a student in class 1B with a quirk similar to Kirishima's.
"Tetsutetsu. Interesting. His quirk allows him to turn into pure steel, making his skin hard, just like Kirishima. I guess he finally has some competition" Midoriya thought to himself.
The Sports Festival was coming to an end, and that was when Midoriya was intrigued to find that the finalists were to fight one-on-one, tournament style.
Midoriya decided to go and congratulate the students who made it this far.
He made it to the door of the locker rooms where he could hear the sound of chattering on the other side. Midoriya opened the door and hit his right hand on the metal doorknob as his way of clapping.
Everyone turned to see Midoriya and realized that he is taller than before, and he has a new hair style.
"Hey Izuku!" said Uraraka trying to get his attention.
"Is it me? Or did you have a growth spurt or something?" Bakugo said eyeing Midoriya up and down.
"Yeah, yeah. He looks different too. Look at his hair!" Mina said excitedly pointing a Midoriya's head. Midoriya's hair was combed over with a fringe covering one eye. It was still messy, but it looked neater than before.
Yaoyorozu couldn't say a word. She was stunned by the look of Midoriya and her face went red of embarrassment.
"Thanks for noticing, but that's not why I'm here. I'm here to congratulate you all for making it this far" said Midoriya.
"Now I know you are giving it your all out there, but what's the point of it without being rewarded? Here's a little challenge, if at least one person can last 5 minutes against either Bakugo or Todoroki, everyone will get lunch, I'm paying of course" said Midoriya.
Everyone's eyes brightened up at the sound of lunch.
The tournament started and Midoriya started timing each match where Bakugo or Todoroki were fighting.
When Yaoyorozu lost her match against Kirishima, he noticed the frustration in her face. Midoriya decided to give her a visit after the match.
"Oh! Dr. Midoriya..." said Yaoyorozu.
"Are you okay?" Midoriya asked in a calm tone.
"Oh, I'm not injured in any way, I'm fine" said Yaoyorozu.
"No, I don't mean physically. I mean... mentally. I could tell you were frustrated when you lost" said Midoriya.
"It was that obvious?" asked Yaoyorozu.
"Yeah, from my perspective at least..." said Midoriya.
"I don't know" Yaoyorozu said with a sigh. "My quirk just isn't very effective in head-to-head combat, everyone else is able to do so many cool things, I don't know if I can become a hero at this point".
Midoriya let out a sigh of his own and sat next to Yaoyorozu.
"That's the thing about modern society, many people think that it takes a very strong quirk to be a hero these days, but who's to say yours isn't. Your quirk allows you to think. It may not not make you the most powerful, but it makes sure that you should be taken seriously. You're smart, Yaoyorozu. Probably smarter than me. You just need the confidence to use your intelligence to your advantage and literally be creative" said Midoriya.
Yaoyorozu and Midoriya locked eyes with each other.
"If ever you need a little help, or someone to boost your confidence. I'm here" Midoriya said with a warm smile.
Yaoyorozu gave Midoriya a hug. "Thank you... I really needed that" she said under her voice.
Midoriya hugged her back with his left arm before going back to work.
When it was Mina's match against Todoroki, she lasted 4 minutes and 50 seconds. Midoriya was surprised to see Mina get so close.
Uraraka lasted 4 minutes and 55 seconds against Bakugo, and Tenya lasted 4 minutes and 53 seconds against Todoroki.
"They're getting close, come on guys you can do this" Midoriya thought to himself.
It was Tokoyami's turn against Bakugo and completed the challenge, even though he lost, he lasted 5 minutes and an extra 30 seconds.
"Yes! Tokoyami did it!" Midoriya said to himself.
Midoriya walked up to Tokoyami after the match.
"Don't feel bad about it, Tokoyami. You did good" said Midoriya.
"Thanks, Dr. Midoriya. I'm sorry, none of us couldn't beat Bakugo or Todoroki" Tokoyami replied.
"Well the challenge said anyone who lasts 5 minutes against either of the two would win free lunch for both classes, not anyone who beats them" Midoriya said as he showed Tokoyami's time on the stop watch.
"I did it? I completed the challenge?" Tokoyami said with a surprised look on his face.
"He did it!" both classes said in unison.
"Ha! Guess lunch is on you Midoriya!" said Kaminari.
"Yep, I guess so..." said Midoriya with a chuckle.
Everyone sat down to watch Bakugo and Todoroki fight it out.
Todoroki is no longer afraid to use his fire quirk and went all out against Bakugo.
It was a close match, but Todoroki won.
Bakugo was filled with rage for losing against Todoroki, but it was just a one-time thing to him. There was no real reward in winning for Bakugo.
The ending ceremony began where Tokoyami got his bronze medal, Bakugo got his silver medal, and Todoroki got his gold medal.
"Wait... where's Iida?" Midoriya asked looking around the crowd for him.
"He had to attend to a family matter, he wouldn't say specifically what for" Uraraka replied.
Midoriya just got a call from Doc, telling him that he needs Midoriya at the hospital to tend to Ingenium.
Midoriya left as soon as he got the call and rushed to the hospital.
Midoriya sees Tenya and his mother waiting outside the door to Ingenium's bay.
"Hey, Iida" Midoriya said as he walked towards the concerned boy.
"Dr. Midoriya! What are you doing here?" Tenya asked him.
"I work here sometimes, I'm here to help your brother" said Midoriya.
"Thank you doctor!" both Tenya and his mother said as they bowed to him.
Midoriya continued in to see Ingenium.
"Dr. Midoriya! Long time no see" said Ingenium.
"Likewise, who did this to you?" asked Midoriya.
"It was the Hero Killer..." Ingenium said as Midoriya took a look at his x-rays.
"Hero Killer Stain" Midoriya said as he studied the x-rays. "Luckily, he didn't break any bones, your muscles in your legs are torn apart, though".
"Are you saying I might be able to walk again?" Ingenium asked Midoriya.
"Yes, you'll be able to do your thing again after a few weeks, give or take. All you need is for your bones to be put back in place and my sedative that I created specially for you to repair your muscles" Midoriya explained.
"But you'll have to be put under so that you don't feel the pain when I put your bones back to where they should be" said Midoriya.
"Okay. I'm willing to take the operation, Dr. Midoriya. Put me under" Ingenium said preparing himself.
The doctors put him under and Midoriya started using his right arm to push and pull his bones and joints back together with zero damage to the rest of his body. He later gave him a shot of his sedative to repair the muscles. It took Midoriya about three hours to complete the operation. Doc came in with the new x-rays showing that the operation was a success.
"Uhh... look at the time... I have a promise I must keep, Doc. Sorry to treat and run" Midoriya said.
"It's alright, I got things from here" Doc said.
Midoriya saw Tenya still waiting outside.
"Iida, your brother will be fine. He will be back to normal in a few weeks or so" said Midoriya.
"Thank you, Dr. Midoriya, for everything" said Tenya.
"Now. I have a promise to keep. Lets get back to the others. Lunch on me remember..." Midoriya said as he walked with Tenya out of the hospital.
Midoriya and Tenya made it back just in time for lunch and both classes bonded over their meals. Midoriya felt so much better now that he is surrounded by people who appreciate what he brings to the table.
"This group isn't bad at all. If anything, these are the most friends I've ever had in my life" Midoriya thought to himself.
