Part 2: Making Plans
Mina presses her lips firmly against Izuku's. The boy then takes his gloved hands and holds them to her face before deepening the kiss.
Izuku then suddenly breaks away, panic having overtaken his face.
Izuku: M-Mina! W-what are you doing!?
The girl giggles in response.
Mina: What? I can't have Recovery Girl give you all your get-well kisses.
Izuku continues to protest though Mina brushes him off.
Izuku: W-what if someone saw us? I-I thought we agreed that the school corridors were too risky!
Mina: Relax! Everyone else is in classes right now, no one's gonna be out here!
Izuku: W-What if Present Mic went to the photocopier o-or Hado came back from her work studies? What if they told someone who told someone else? All it takes is for someone in our class to hear before
She then teasingly puts her hands to her face, mimicking Izuku's movements from before.
Mina: Come on, I know you weren't fully opposed to the idea. You're gloves are really coarse by the way.
Distracted, Izuku looks down at his hand and begins to mutter to himself.
Izuku: T-they are? I know they're an old pair but Hatsume said that they'd last longer. Fabric softener could help but then I'd-
He then catches himself, turning back to Mina with an annoyed look on his face.
Izuku: That's n-not the point! We talked about this!
Mina starts to pout.
Mina: I know. Sorry.
A mischievous smile then forms on her face.
Mina: How about I make it up to you? I think we're due another date night, don'tcha think?
Izuku is taken aback.
Izuku: D-date night?
She winks at him.
Mina: It'll be my treat. Just be ready for us to go at six, okay?
Izuku: S-sure!
The two eventually make their way back to the Combat Training Facility. There they are greeted by a displeased Aizawa.
Aizawa: I thought I told you two to be quick. I expected you back five minutes ago.
The two bow their heads.
Izuku: S-sorry Mr Aizawa!
Mina: It's my fault; I kept bugging Midoriya with questions about the evaluation.
Aizawa sighs.
Aizawa: Well, since you two took so long. I trust that you've had ample time to reflect on your performances today?
Izuku and Mina: Yes Mr Aizawa.
Aizawa: Let's hear it then.
Izuku is about to speak but Aizawa interrupts him, pointing a finger at the girl standing beside him.
Aizawa: From Ashido please.
Izuku looks at Mina nervously while Mina herself gulps on air.
Aizawa: Go on.
There is a brief silence.
Finally, Mina speaks.
Mina: Izuku and I determined that a straightforward attack was the best strategy in order to prevent Kirishima and Yaoyorozu from fully working together and keep their focus on a singular opponent. However, it was mostly luck that I managed to separate Yaoyorozu from the fight and I failed to make sure she had been properly incapacitated. This allowed her to catch us off-guard later on. Similarly, Midoriya was holding back against Kirishima in order to buy me time, putting himself at greater risk, It was also lucky that we won against him as our planned attack wasn't guaranteed to succeed.
Aizawa: Very good.
The two teens sigh in relief.
Aizawa: Compared to previous training sessions; you two have demonstrated good progress in not only your individual skills but your co-operation as well. However, despite succeeding you created many problems for yourselves as well. This can always be improved upon by clearer communication and precise preparation. All in all though, not a bad effort. Keep up the good work.
Aizawa hands them each a performance sheet before Izuku and Mina begin to make their way to the observation room.
Izuku leans down to whisper into Mina's ear.
Izuku: Nice summary.
Mina: Thanks! I learned all my analysis skills from you though!
As they walk in, the pair are greeted by their classmates. Kirishima, Iida and Uraraka.
Kirishima: There you guys are!
Uraraka: Deku! Mina! You're back!
Mina: Yeah, we just finished our evaluation with Mr Aizawa.
Kirishima in particular holds his hand out to Izuku.
How you feeling Midoriya? Again, I'm real sorry about your nose.
Izuku accepts with a smile, shaking Kirishima's hand firmly.
Izuku: I'm all better now, thanks Kirishima.
Kirishima: That's what you get for pulling your punches though! Man, I should have known something was up! Anyway, glad to see your all good.
Iida is next to speak.
Iida: I have to say that was exceptional teamwork you two showed earlier. Combining your attacks to exploit Kirishima's weaknesses was particularly ingenious Midoriya.
Uraraka looks at the green-haired boy with wide eyes.
Uraraka: Yeah! It was so cool Deku! How do you always come up with things like that?
Izuku is about to respond but Mina interjects.
Mina: Acid Smash was my idea actually!
Iida and Uraraka both look at her in surprise.
Iida and Uraraka: It was?
Mina glares at them in annoyance.
Mina: Is that so hard for people to believe!?
Kirishima shrugs.
Kirishima: Hey, what matters is that you guys killed it today!
Mina smiles, wrapping her arm around a flustered Izuku's neck.
Mina: Thanks Kirishima! I guess Midori and I make a pretty good team, don't we?
Izuku: Y-yep…
Seeing this, Uraraka is expressionless for a moment.
Uraraka: Yeah… Midori?
The sound of All Might's voice snaps her from her thoughts.
All Might: Match Four is about to begin! Teams D and J, please head over to their starting positions!
Uraraka: Oh, Team D! That's us Iida! We don't wanna be late!
Iida adjusts his glasses.
Iida: Indeed. I do hope Uraraka and I are able to perform as well as you, Ashido and Midoriya!
Kaminari scoffs as he makes his way over to the door with Jiro.
Kaminari: Yeah right! Jiro and I have got this in the bag!
Iida puts on his helmet, shaking his fist in an over-exaggerated fashion, prompting laughter from the others.
Iida: We'll see about that you villains!
As the two leave Izuku and Mina, Uraraka turns back and waves at them.
Uraraka: Anyway, we'll catch up with you later!
Izuku: Good luck Uraraka!
Mina: You've got this girl!
Soon afterwards, Mina and Izuku are approached by Toru.
Mina: Hey Toru! How's it going?
Toru gives her two thumbs-up.
Toru: I've never felt so great in my life!
The two look at her in confusion.
Mina: You do?
Toru then puts her gloves up to her face in shock.
Toru: That's right! You and Midoriya missed the second match, you don't know yet!
Mina: Know what?
Though it is hard to tell, it is clear that the invisible girl is beaming with pride.
Toru: Your match may be talk of the hour but mine is gonna be the talk of the week!
They look over to see several of their classmates give a proud Mineta their congratulations while Sero has to use his tape to keep Bakugo restrained, the blonde seething with rage. Meanwhile, Todoroki calmly watches the scene from the corner.
Mina looks at Toru with excitement as the realisation dawns on her.
Mina: No way! You won!?
Toru: Was there any doubt?
Mina: Against Bakugo and Todoroki, with Mineta as your partner? Yeah, a little!
Meanwhile, Izuku looks at Mineta and Bakugo with concern.
Izuku: Is Mineta going to be okay? Kaachan looks angrier than usual…
Mina begins bouncing up and down with Toru.
Mina: Tell me how you did it! Tell me! Tell me!
Toru: I will! I will!
Izuku and Mina begin listening to their friend intently.
Toru: Well…
Earlier.
Mineta is franticly pacing up and down, head in his hands.
Mineta: Why me God? What did I do to deserve this? You give me the chance to team-up with a girl only to snatch it away by giving me a guaranteed butt-kicking!
In frustration he then turns to Toru, who is doing a zen-like pose on the ground.
Mineta: And how are you so calm about this!?
Toru: Oh, I'm just as terrified as you are. I'm just better at hiding it.
Mineta: You're invisible! Figures you'd brag about your poker face!
Toru stands up.
Toru: Still, it's not so bad.
Mineta: And how is that!?
She thinks back to her previous fight against Todoroki and how he had instantly frozen her and Ojiro in place.
Toru: I mean, the only reason I lost to Todoroki last time is because he froze the entire building. He didn't really give us much of a chance.
Mineta begins to frantically wave his arms.
Mineta: Exactly! How's this time going to be different!?
Toru: The difference is who he's partnered up with. It's a guarantee that Bakugo will come straight for us when the match starts, so Todoroki won't be able to freeze us unless he wants to risk freezing him too. It's not much but it buys us time.
Mineta: Great! Why not prolong our torture for a bit longer!
The floating glove wags its finger, beckoning the boy to approach.
Toru: I've got a plan so come here and listen close.
With the match now in full swing, Mineta wearily stands guard by the bomb.
Mineta: Please let this work…
He is then rattled by the sound of a nearby explosion.
BOOOOOM.
Bakugo emerges from the smoke, a wicked smile on his face.
Bakugo: Found you! Time to die pipsqueak!
Mineta panics and desperately tries to run away.
Mineta: Aw crap!
But Bakugo swiftly catches up to the boy and pulls him up into the air by his cape.
Mineta: Gah!
He is turned around to see Bakugo's hand inching closer towards his face.
Mineta: L-let go…
Bakugo scoffs at the request.
Bakugo: What was that!? You wanna speak up!?
Mineta looks up at the celling and shouts.
Mineta: Let go Hagakure!
Confused, Bakugo looks up in confusion to see a tarp falling on top of him. Meanwhile Toru is suspended above, using Mineta's pop-off spheres and some rope as a handle.
Bakugo moves his arm away from Mineta, ready to blast the tarp away but Mineta quickly kicks his opponent in the chest, knocking him off course.
Bakugo: Oof!
Tearing his cape, Mineta manages to break out of Bakugo's grip and pelts him with sticky balls as he moves to safety.
Meanwhile, the tarp falls down on Bakugo and it attaches itself to the purple spheres, encasing Bakugo in a makeshift cocoon. Enraged, the boy starts thrashing around and grunting. His muffled threats can barely be heard by Mineta.
Bakugo: Get this crap off of me! When I get out I swear I'm gonna-!
Mineta looks up at Hagakure in amazement.
Mineta: Ha! It worked!
Toru: Told ya!
Their celebration is interrupted however when Todoroki enters the room.
He looks at his two opponents and then down at Bakugo, seemingly unfazed.
Todoroki: It really would have been better if we had gone into the building together Bakugo.
Bakugo continues to struggle.
Bakugo: And let you steal my glory!? Go to hell!
Todoroki raises his arm, a flames roaring out of his hand.
Todoroki: Now, time to finish this!
FOOSH.
Mineta is barely able to dodge the attack. Meanwhile, Toru swings her body forward from the ceiling, her hands still gripping firmly onto the makeshift handles.
Toru: Mineta! Jump!
Mineta jumps into the air and grabs hold of Toru's leg. He uses her momentum to swing forward and launch himself at Todoroki before wildly throwing more of his pop-off spheres.
The heterochromatic boy swiftly puts up a wall of ice, causing Mineta to slam right into it. The ice wall then shatters.
CRASH.
However, the wall does not come up in time to stop several of the balls from landing on Todoroki, with one in particular hitting him in the face.
POP.
Todoroki: Ugh!
He struggles to tear it off his face, eventually using his fire to burn it away.
Todoroki then looks up to see a pair of floating boots flying right towards him.
Toru: Hiya!
Toru then delivers a kick to Todoroki's head, knocking him out.
All Might's voice can then be heard over the intercom.
All Might: Bakugo and Todoroki have been defeated! Villain Team B wins!
Ecstatic, Toru picks up Mineta and spins him round.
Toru: Yes! We won! Whoo!
Meanwhile, Mineta is too flustered by the motion to speak.
Mineta: Y-yeah… Whoo…
Toru attempts to move but is unable to.
Toru: Come on, let's- What the-?
She looks down to see that one of Mineta's balls has attached itself to its legs, trapping her in place.
Toru: I'm stuck!
Mineta leans down, ogling at the ball.
Mineta: Oops… Sorry about that.
Toru folds her arms in impatience.
Toru: How long is this stuff even supposed to last?
Mineta: About an hour or so.
The girl gives off an aura of rage despite being invisible.
Toru: An hour!?
Mineta looks up and gives her a lecherous smile.
Mineta: It also comes out with peanut butter. Want me to rub some in?
Toru sighs in defeat.
Back in the present, Toru finishes recounting the battle to Izuku and Mina.
They smile at her.
Mina: Hey, at least you won! Congrats!
Izuku: Well done Hagakure!
Toru: Aww, thanks you two!
The three are then distracted by a commotion unfolding with their classmates.
SNAP.
Sero: Crap! Bakugo's loose!
Bakugo: I'm gonna kill you Purple Balls!
BOOM.
Mineta: Ahh! Someone help!
Later, at the student dorms.
Izuku and Mina are preparing to leave, both having dressed up in smart-casual clothes.
She looks at him in excitement.
Mina: So, are you all set?
Izuku: I think so. How about you?
Mina: Yep! Let's go!
As they open the door however, they are met by Kirishima and Kaminari, both holding shopping bags.
Kaminari: Oh, hey guys! Where are you heading off too?
Nervous, Izuku begins to stutter.
Izuku: K-Kaminari! K-Kirishima! W-we're n-not going anywhere, j-just heading out!
The two look at him in confusion.
Mina quickly interjects.
Mina: So, you guys are back from the supermarket?
They nod.
Kaminari: Yeah! Sato said he needed some stuff for the curry pot tonight so we decided to help him out.
Mina looks at them in shock.
Mina: Curry night's tonight?
Kirishima raises an eyebrow in concern.
Kirishima: Don't tell me you forgot?
Now Mina begins to panic, unconvincingly trying to play it cool.
Mina: What? Pfft! N-no! Of course we didn't!
Kirishima smiles.
Kirishima: Cool. It should be ready by the time you guys get back.
Izuku and Mina stare at them awkwardly, much to Kirishima and Kaminari's concern.
Kaminari: You guys are gonna be back, right?
The girl struggles to maintain eye-contact.
Mina: Uh… Well… Midoriya and I… kinda made plans already?
Kirishima: Plans?
This time, Izuku interjects with an apologetic look on his face.
Izuku: I-it's my fault guys. I promised I'd take Ashido out to celebrate our victory today. I-I completely forgot about curry night. I-I'm real sorry.
The two smile without question.
Kirishima: Hey? What are you apologising for Midoriya? Don't worry about it! You guys deserve it!
The couple wave goodbye to their friends as they head out the door.
Mina: Well, we better be off then! Sorry about missing curry night, think you can save us a plate?
Kaminari: We'll try but no promises!
Mina: Well thanks anyway! See ya!
Now outside the door, Izuku and Mina collapse into sighs of relief.
Izuku: T-that was close…
Mina: Ohmigod, I completely forgot about curry night!
Mina looks over at Izuku, wincing slightly.
Mina: Do you think they brought it?
Izuku: I-I think so… It's not like we really lied about why we're going out.
They head past the security gates and onto the sidewalk.
Izuku: S-speaking of which, where are we going?
Mina wags her finger at him.
Mina: Ah-ah… No telling just yet.
The pink-skinned girl looks back and smiles smugly at him.
Mina: You'll just have to wait and see!
Sometime later, the students of Class 1-A are sitting down in their dining room, enjoying the labours of curry night.
Kaminari is sitting at a table with Jiro and Tsuyu before they are joined by Uraraka. She has an anxious look on her face as she takes a seat next to Tsuyu.
Uraraka: Hey, has anyone know where Deku is? I don't think I've seen him since classes finished.
Tsuyu: Come to think of it, I haven't seen Ashido either.
Kaminari answers, matter-of-factly.
Kaminari: Oh yeah, they went out a while ago. Midoriya said they were going to celebrate their victory in the battle training today.
Uraraka and Jiro stare at him in shock.
Uraraka: They did?
Jiro: On curry night?
Kaminari looks at them obliviously.
Kaminari: That's what I thought.
He then turns to look at Tsuyu.
Kaminari: Yeah, you've teamed up with him before Tsuyu. Hasn't he done something like this before.
The frog-girl looks up inquisitively.
Tsuyu: I can't say he has. Ribbit.
Meanwhile, Uraraka has silently begun poking at her food with her fork, muttering to herself.
Uraraka: He hasn't done that for me either… We've worked together before too…
Kaminari pauses for a moment.
Kaminari: Huh, that's weird.
Jiro shrugs.
Jiro: Eh. I love Mina but she can be a bit ditzy. Maybe this is a way of encouraging her to do better in her studies? You could probably benefit from something like that too Kaminari.
Kaminari turns to her in annoyance.
Kaminari: You know what, maybe I- Hey!
While the two begin to bicker, Tsuyu pats Uraraka on the shoulder.
Tsuyu: Jiro has a point. I'm sure Midoirya's just trying to help Ashido out. It's kinda what he does.
She turns to look at her friend and smiles.
Uraraka: Yeah, you're probably right.
But the smile soon fades when she turns back to her food.
