Part 8: How Can You Mend A Broken Heart?
Izuku and Mina look at Uraraka with anticipation.
The brunette nervously twirls her finger around her hair, struggling to look directly at the pair.
Uraraka: So...
Mina: So…
Uraraka chuckles awkwardly.
Uraraka: I'm sorry… I had all these words planned out in my head but now… I can't think of what to say.
Izuku smiles softly at her before turning to Mina.
Izuku: Well, maybe we should start.
He then takes hold of Mina's hand and turns back to Uraraka.
Izuku: Mina and I are… dating. It's actually been going on for a while now.
Uraraka is taken aback by the comment, still unsure of how to respond.
Uraraka: Oh… For how long?
Mina is next to speak, she smiles sheepishly.
Mina: Three months but it's only gotten serious these past two.
Uraraka: I see…
Uraraka smiles brightly at the couple, much to their surprise.
Uraraka: Congratulations you guys!
Izuku and Mina look at her with concern.
Izuku: D-does this mean…
Mina: You're okay… with us?
Uraraka continues to smile.
Uraraka: Of course!
However, the smile falters.
Uraraka: I just wish you would have told me sooner.
Much to her surprise Izuku sharply bows his head down, guilt on his face.
Izuku: It's my fault Uraraka! I'm the one who wanted to keep it a secret! I never meant for it to get like this it's just… you're my best friend and I never meant to upset you like this! I know I wasn't honest with you but I promise, no matter what it takes, I'll make it up to you!
He is interrupted by Uraraka.
Uraraka: Thank you Deku, but it's fine. I'm fine.
Izuku tries to protest but Uraraka responds earnestly.
Izuku: B-but…
Uraraka: Look, I'm the one who wanted to push their feelings aside; I can't expect you guys to do the same. You're my best friends, both of you, so please don't think that I'm not happy for you.
Teary-eyed, Mina squeals before pulling Uraraka in for a hug.
Mina: Ochaco!
Uraraka responds by comfortingly patting Mina on the back as she tries to fight her own emerging tears.
Uraraka: Hey, hey, it's okay Mina… Don't cry, cause then I'm gonna cry and- and- I just finished crying- and-
She gives in, fully embracing Mina as she starts to wail.
Izuku awkwardly watches, unsure of what to do.
Izuku: Well, I think I should be going now. I'm sure you two would like to be alone for a while…
The two girls break apart, wide smiles on their faces.
Mina: Nuh-uh! You're not going anywhere Mister!
Uraraka: Bring it in Deku!
They grab a hold of Izuku's arm and they pull him in.
Izuku: W-woah!
The three then find themselves in a group hug, taking comfort in their newly resolved friendship.
A short while later, Mina and Uraraka are alone in the former's room, Izuku having left for the night.
Mina looks to her friend with concern.
Mina: Hey, Ochaco? Now that it's just us… Are you sure you're okay? If you need to say something, I'll listen.
Uraraka shakes her head.
Uraraka: I'm fine Mina. Talking to you and Deku, it helped.
She pauses for a moment.
Uraraka: I won't lie to you and say that it doesn't hurt. It's still gonna take a while for me to get over everything.
Dejected, Mina nods in understanding.
Mina: Yeah, I totally get it…
Uraraka turns to her and smiles.
Uraraka: But I meant what I said earlier too. You and Deku, you have my support no matter what!
Uraraka takes Mina's shoulder and brings her in, resting their heads together.
Mina: Thank you.
Uraraka: No problem.
Thanks to everyone who left their suggestions after the last chapter! It was hard for me to make my mind up but after GumballDia's suggestion to do both, I decided to do just that!
That's why this chapter's so short. The next one will be a direct continuation of this and will feature a conversation between Izuku and Uraraka as well as a couple other things so stay tuned!
