Bradley Jenkins was by no means the type of boy you bring home to meet the family nor was he the type of boy that allowed a relationship to even get to that stage. He wasn't the type of boy you counted on to be there if you ever needed help or advice. He was always in trouble and always up to something untoward... But Bradley Jenkins was as fun and wild as he was hot.
Just like Jacqueline.
It was why they'd been drawn together in the first place.
And also happened to be why they were both sitting in the sheriff's office together for the 5th time in the past year and a half. Of course this was the first significant thing they had been brought into the station to answer for, but it was far from being the first or the last time it would happen. Cause if they were together then there was trouble about to go down...
It was Bradley's 15th birthday and while he's a whole year older than Jacqueline, they were as wild as each other.
They had gotten drunk this time, though that wasn't unusual for either of them. Jacqueline was careful to never get to the point of being blackout drunk - it reminded her too much of her mother to allow herself to be that far gone - but she was prone to partying and drinking her weight in alcohol. However, they had decided to leave Bradley's party at the Falls early and somehow they'd thought it was a good idea to steal a deputy's police cruiser.
Suffice to say it was, in actuality, a bad idea.
Especially since they'd been so drunk they Bradley had only managed to drive a mile down the road before he had to pull over and puke.
"Do you even understand how much trouble you're both in?" Jenson, the current Sheriff of Mystic falls, asked them looking highly unimpressed. Jenson had never really liked them anyway - though Jacqueline felt a similar dislike for the annoying and uptight Sheriff.
"Oh yeah" Bradly nodded sloppily, "You gonna spank us?"
...Clearly Bradly was still drunk.
Jacqueline bit back her laugh as Jenson lost his shit. The sheriff started yelling, his face burning a new shade of red as he ranted and lectured. She was sure, at one point, that the vein in his neck might burst but was disappointed as it only continued to bulge. Jenson's hands slammed onto his desk harshly as he tried to calm down. "Get them out of my goddamn sight!" Jenson yelled finally allowing the deputy to take them to the cells.
Jacqueline was hauled to her feet and cuffed as she sat in the cold cell. She'd been arrested before, not convicted, but arrested. Technically since she's only 14 they won't really do much other than put this on her permanent record. They'll leave it up to her parents to punish - though neither Greyson or Miranda will even attempt at punishing her for it. Over the past year Jacqueline's relationship with Greyson had changed drastically. The man who had once still held some parental authority in her eyes now held none.
And she had made that clear to him.
Of course, Greyson had been shocked but easily distracted again by his work and Elena. He hadn't particularly cared for Jacqueline all that much anyway.
Regardless of her parents inability to actually parent their children. Jacqueline remained in Mystic Falls Sheriffs department cell for the rest of the night. By the time the sun came up her head was pounding and her back was stiff though she might of been tipsy still. She certainly was ready to go home and sleep off the hangover without a creepy cop glaring at her the entire time.
They were acting like she went around kicking puppies or something!
Jacqueline tried to sleep through her drunkenness as they waited out the few hours it was going to take before they could be released again. She hated the waiting but knew it wasn't enough to stop her from doing stupid shit in the future. It just reminded her not to do stupid shit when there was a high chance of getting caught. Thankfully it wasn't all that long before they were both being released from the cells again. The deputy looked like he'd rather of locked them in there and thrown away the key.
Jacqueline couldn't wait for Jenson to retire!
Maybe the town would actually get some competent Deputies then?
Bradley tugged on her hand and they began the short walk to her place which wasn't all that far away from the station. Though considering Mystic Falls wasn't a very big town, technically everything was close by anyway.
"I can't believe this is how I spent my 15th birthday" Bradley smirked with a chuckle
Grinning Jacqueline begun singing loudly, "Happy Birthday dear Bradley..." with a sweep of her arm as they stumbled down the road to her house.
"Best birthday ever!" Bradley laughed before picking her up by her waist and carrying her the rest of the way.
Jacqueline laughed loudly as she was carried up her driveway. She smacked his arm and squirmed out of his grip when they got to the front door. "Shh" she shushed him
Bradley grinned and kissed the crook of her neck.
Jacqueline pressed her back into him and hummed in approval at the small nip Bradley left on her skin. She chuckled trying to keep quiet and knowing she was still slightly drunk at the moment. Unlocking the front door she pulled him into the house and they stumbled - as quietly as possible - up to her bedroom.
Their clothes were gone as soon as the door was shut behind them.
His lips devoured hers in a heated way that Jacqueline absolutely craved. It was nothing like the gentle kisses you see in the movies when you find your Prince Charming. It wasn't gentle or attentive or loving.
It was possessive.
Passionate.
And toe curling.
Which was why, despite the fact that they were friends, she would never turn down sex with Bradley.
Of course Jacqueline was aware of the fact that it broke her very rule of one-and-done but Bradley was unlike the other boys. Bradley didn't fumble or blush or attempt to treat her like she would break. For guys their age that wasn't as common as she would have liked it to be.
And so it meant that Bradley was the only one who could satisfy her like she wanted.
It was fun.
Her legs wrapped around his waist as they fell backwards into her bed. Jacqueline allowed him control for a while before she decided she had enough teasing. Locking her legs around his waist she shifted and flipped them over.
Looking down at Bradley she smirked, "This is the only birthday present you'll get from me"
Bradley laughed but smiled up at the one girl who could meet him match for match. If anyone ever thought that Bradley Jenkins was crazy... they'd not met Jacqueline Gilbert.
"Jacqueline! Jacq- OH MY GOD!" Elena shrieked stopping in her tracks as she threw open Jacqueline's bedroom door and stood in the doorway.
Jacqueline lifted her head groggily and blinked in the direction of where the light was being let into her bedroom. "Elena?" She asked and sat up slightly
"Ew!" Elena slapped a hand over her eyes shrieking loud enough to wake a sleeping Bradley up as well.
"Your tits out" Bradley supplied with a small smirk when Jacqueline only looked confused at the situation.
"Oh" Jacqueline quickly pulled the sheet up to fully cover her chest, though not much had been showing, it apparently was enough to disgust Elena. Thankfully though, she had pulled the sheet up in time for Jeremy to rush into the room to see what Elena's yelling had been about.
"What are you doing?" Jeremy frowned at her in confusion
"We-" Jacqueline pursed her lips, "Well me and Bradley are having a sleepover" she explained making sure her words were spoken with confidence. Enough confidence that there would be no doubt about what she was bullshitting him on.
Jeremy was still frowning though, "But boys don't have sleepovers with girls... cause girls have germs" he pointed out
Jacqueline gave Jeremy a smug look, "Yeah but I'm too cool to have germs. Remember?"
"Yeah I remember!" Jeremy nodded and his frown was now gone. His 8 year old mind was easily accepting of the explanation he had been given. Plus, he wasn't the one to realise was Jacqueline naked...
Thank god!
Jacqueline was never one to shy away from anything but even she didn't particularly feel comfortable with her little sister seeing her naked. Though Elena had barely seen anything, it was enough to make this situation awkward.
"Now. Go turn in the Coffee machine while me and Bradley get dressed for the day. We gotta brush out teeth" Jacqueline shooed them both out of the room. Elena grabbed Jeremys arm and pulled him away from the room before slamming the bedroom door shut.
Bradley started laughing and Jacqueline soon joined him.
It really had been an awfully weird situation.
"We're having a sleep over?" Bradly grinned at her
Jacqueline rolled her eyes and shoved the sheets away from her body before walking, unashamedly, into the bathroom. Thankfully her bedroom had a bathroom of its own. Quickly washing and getting dressed for the day, Jacqueline lead Bradley to the front door before turning to the kitchen.
Elena and Jeremy were in the kitchen trying to figure out how to turn in the coffee machine.
Jacqueline smirked, "Here" she said helping Jeremy get the settings right.
Knowing she had likely grossed Elena out, Jacqueline was sure to pay the girl extra attention in giving tasks and making conversation. If she could distract Elena for a while then maybe it wouldn't be so bad? It wasn't like Elena had actually seen anything happening between the two of them!
All Elena had seen was a glimpse of Jacqueline's boob... why was that so horrific?
"All right. Take a seat kids" Jacqueline instructed taking the eggs and bacon off the hot plate and bringing it to the table.
Thank fuck it's Saturday!
"Where were you last night?" Elena questioned almost accusingly
Jacqueline rose a brow in challenge at Elena who quickly shut up and looked away. Elena might be at the age where attitude becomes a thing, but there was no situation in which she would get away with using it with Jacqueline. Nevertheless Jacqueline answered, "I was at Bradley's birthday party" she said looking between Elena and Jeremy. "Why?"
Elena pouted, "Cause mom stayed in her room last night. She said you were going to take care of things tonight - she was writing her book all night"
"Yeah!" Jeremy piped up chewing his food. "Elena could only make cereal for dinner!"
Jacqueline held back the urge to go upstairs and lay into Miranda. The woman couldn't even feed her kids when they were hungry?
What kind of mother does that shit?
"I didn't know" Jacqueline shook her head apologetically. "You guys did really good making your own food though. I'm proud of you both" she smiled at them
Both the 9 year old and 11 year old beamed in response to the praise they got at doing what was considered an 'adult' job. Elena tried to hide the smile in an attempt at looking more grown up than she was, but Jacqueline had seen it clearly. Despite the fact that Jacqueline isn't an adult, to Elena and Jeremy she was considered one.
Always had been considered one.
It was the way things had always been and neither kid knew enough to question that. Jacqueline made decisions in the Gilbert house. Jacqueline looked after them when they were sick and gave advice. Jacqueline did everything that a parent was supposed to do for their kids.
The only thing Greyson did was bring in the money to pay for it all.
Miranda didn't even bother leaving her room to get high anymore considering Greyson was now knowingly supplying Miranda with drugs.
Even though both Elena and Jeremy had yet to realise how little involvement their parents have in their lives... subconsciously they recognise Jacqueline as the adult. It was as if Jacqueline was the parent when in reality she wasn't even that much older then them.
...Jacqueline is only 14 after all.
Jacqueline had managed to locate a blood bag from Greyson's doctors office and grabbed it as she went down to see Enzo. She realised that she wasn't able to give Enzo blood every time she arrived - partly because she couldn't acquire it that often, but also because it would be noticeable. They didn't need to risk Enzo being held under tighter security. It was already risky enough for Jacqueline to sneak in and visit him.
She smiled sadly when she approached the cell he was locked up in.
Enzo lifted his head and smiled widely at her, watching as she leaned against the wall opposite the cell. "Hey, Jacq" he greeted happily
"Hey, Enzo" she smiled and extended the blood bag through the bars watching him take it and drink it down as quick as he could. Almost as if he was afraid it would be taken away if he didn't get it down fast enough.
Though she couldn't really blame him for that, all things considered...
"How have you been doing?" Jacqueline asked taking back the plastic and folding it up knowing she would have to get rid of the evidence when she left.
"Same as usual" Enzo shrugged, "Better when you bring me blood though" he allowed with a grateful smile.
Jacqueline nodded, "That's good, I guess" she hummed cause nothing about this situation was good and they both knew it. Her hatred and disgust only growing further for Greyson every time she saw the state he had left Enzo in.
"What about you?" Enzo asked, "Tell me about what's been going on?"
It was what they usually did - she would ask him how he was and manage to figure out by his answer where his head was at. Sometimes he was more depressed than other times but he always smiled when she talked about her life. Jacqueline was Enzo's only positive interaction and she knew while it might not mean much to her, it meant a lot to him.
Even small things such as what's for lunch was interesting to Enzo at this point.
And how could it not be?
After all these years of isolation and torture how could even the most simple of things not be more interesting than they usually were?
Jacqueline shrugged, "Jeremy is about to turn 10 years old in a few days. I'm going to buy him a present and take him for milkshakes after school at the Grill. He wants to go and hang out with his friends that night as well" she supplied
Enzo nodded, "Is he still getting better with his drawings?"
"Yeah" she smiled proudly, "He's still asking me to teach him every weekend. He's good for a almost-10-year-old and he seems to really like it. I think I'm going to get him art supplies for his birthday"
Enzo hummed, "What about Elena?"
"Elena's doing good. She's turning 12 in a few weeks but she's already in that annoying stage where it's all about her friends and what they're doing" Jacqueline rolled her eyes. "I guess it's good though. Elena's been hanging out with Bonnie, Matt, Caroline and Tyler more often nowadays. She's starting to get old enough to start really noticing shit with Miranda so I guess this stage has come in handy with holding that off"
Enzo nodded sadly, after Jacqueline discovered what Greyson was doing to him a year and a half ago, she had confided in him more than she had anyone else. In fact, he was the only person Jacqueline had confided in about anything. Enzo knew about Miranda's drug problems and had managed to give some relatively good advice.
"Is that why she's going to her friends houses more often though?" Enzo wondered
Jacqueline thought about it for a minute before she sighed, "Partly I think. I think Elena has noticed Miranda's absence more now, but I think Elena still thinks Miranda is writing her newest novel. I read Elena's diary and-"
"You read her diary?" Enzo interrupted with a chuckle and rolled his eyes
"Yeah, Yeah" Jacqueline shrugged chuckling as well. "I read her diary and it only talks about how she hates that Miranda's been busy. She wishes Miranda was the one taking her to school and wishes it wasn't me who she has to ask for things"
Enzo sighed, "You're doing good though"
"I'm doing the best I can" she agreed never one for being humble or doubtful regarding how much she was willing to do for her family. "I just don't know if that'll matter to Elena. Elena always adored Miranda and when Elena does find out - it'll hit her harder than me or Jer"
