It had been two weeks since The Harvest had been interrupted. Jacqueline had been quite busy secretly making sure that the witches wouldn't be able to track down Davina. She had cleaned out Davina's house of all evidence of her existence and brought anything of importance to the Church. All the girls art supplies were covering an entire wall of the Church and Marcel had only added to the collection each day he went to visit Davina.
And Marcel did go every day.
Jacqueline made sure to call everyday but she divided her time between Tyler and Davina. Usually she ended up spending afternoons or nights with Davina.
The girl was longing for a friend though and Jacqueline had asked Marcel if he was alright with Jacqueline introducing Tyler to Davina. The two teens only had a few months in between them and they'd had similar experiences with death at such a young age. She figured that the two might be able to become friends and support each other as well.
The more people as they have on their side right now, the better off they'll be for it.
Marcell knew that too.
Which is why Jacqueline had dragged Tyler to town with her and cloaked his werewolf scent from any other supernatural's which might have noticed it. Jacqueline knew the vampires in town don't like werewolves after something went down a couple decades ago. Jacqueline didn't want to risk them finding Tyler or tracking him.
"So what are we doing here?" Tyler asked having been given no explanation yet
Jacqueline rolled her eyes, "Going to see a friend. We can't talk about it here" she told him pointedly as she flickered her eyes around the room full of people.
Tyler sighed and nodded.
Jacqueline ordered three sweet vanilla lattes, a box of donuts and a few snacks that Davina could have for later on. Jacqueline made sure she took them the long way around town as she headed in and out of as many alleys as she possibly could. If anyone was still following them she would be completely impressed. Jacqueline ducked into the back of the Church as she led Tyler inside and up the stairs.
"So? What are we doing here?" Tyler asked again
"Seeing Davina" Jacqueline announced to him and led the way as they approached the bedroom door and knocked. Tyler still looked surprised having known the situation but not the location of Davina. "Be nice" Jacqueline hastily added to Tyler before the door opened and revealed Davina.
"Jacq- wait who's that?" Davina said as she eyed Tyler warily
"This is Tyler. You can trust him, Davina, I promise" Jacqueline assured as she crossed the threshold. Jacqueline set the food and drinks onto one of the tables Marcel had bought for Davina to paint on.
Tyler attempted to follow but was knocked on his ass by the barrier preventing anyone without invitation to entre. Tyler landed with a umph of surprise and gaped at the doorway in shock.
Davina giggled.
Jacqueline rose a brow at the giggling girl and Tyler's embarrassed face... maybe introducing those two really had been a good idea?
Jacqueline smirked as she watched Davina grin and invite Tyler into the room. Tyler shuffled past and eyed Davina a little longer than he should have. Jacqueline figured this development was something she should leave out when she tells Marcel how today went with the two teens. Marcel was already close to Davina - he didn't need to know Davina might have a crush on a boy.
Or that Tyler might have be crushing on Davina just as much.
Yeah... Marcel didn't need to know that.
Not yet anyway.
"So? Drinks" Jacqueline interrupted their lingering stares. Pretended to be oblivious to the blush rising on both their cheeks at realising they'd been staring with her in the room. "Show Tyler and I your new painting. Ty you should take a look, Davina's really talented at painting... maybe she could teach you to paint" she grinned when Davina blushed more at the praise. "I'm sure Tyler could pick it up easy. Ty's really good at drawing"
Tyler cleared his throat.
Davina peaked up at Tyler with interest.
Jacqueline just smirked to herself as she made a point of looking busy. They'd be good for each other, she decided as she watched them interact. They both got caught up in a conversation on art and completely forgot Jacqueline was still in the room... yeah, they'll be good for each other.
ONE WEEK LATER:
"Jacq?" Tyler called as he jogged over looking more hesitant the closer he got. The teen stood trying to not look as nervous as he clearly was. "How's Davina?" he asked failing at being subtle
Jacqueline held back her smirk though and decided to play along and let the two teens think that she didn't know what was happening. Jacqueline had brought Tyler with her to see Davina twice now and both times they had gotten so involved in conversation that they forgot she was there all together.
Tyler was smitten.
And Davina was just as captured by Tyler.
"She's been good. I'm going to see her tonight" Jacqueline told him, watching for the slightest reaction. When Tyler tilted his head in interest to what she had to say, Jacqueline knew the kid had it bad for Davina. Marcel would throw a fit if he knew she wasn't shutting it down but she was pretty sure that the reason her magic latched onto Davina's and recognised it as part of her family was because of Tyler's obvious connection with Davina.
If anyone was meant for each other... it was Davina and Tyler for sure.
Jacqueline imagined that was what falling in love looked like.
Not that she'd actually know.
"Well do you think she'd want company? For painting or something? I was getting kind of board of the parties..." Tyler said trying to sound nonchalant and if Jacqueline didn't know all his tells she might have believed him.
Jacqueline shrugged, "I don't know. You can come with, I doubt she'd have and issue with it" she told him as she continued to feign ignorance.
"Cool" Tyler smiled
"Well?" Jacqueline narrowed her eyes when he didn't move from where he stood grinning. "Are you gonna go get your sketch book or what?"
Tyler looked confused for a second before he gave a quick nod an rushed off to grab the sketch book he likely wouldn't use. If Tyler was gonna lie and give excuses then she was gonna put him on the spot and not feel bad about it. However, Jacqueline guessed that Tyler didn't even realise how much he liked Davina yet and she hoped when he realised that he would come to her about it. Jacqueline could only wait until then though, since it wasn't like they were doing anything wrong - but if they start dating there'll be ground rules.
If she can convince Marcel.
Jacqueline scoffed at the mere thought... that wasn't gonna be an easy task and she knew it.
TWO WEEKS LATER:
Marcel was already there in the Church when Jacqueline walked through the doors with Tyler hot on her heels. Jacqueline sensed the vampire and knew instantly who it was. She cast Tyler a wary look that had the teen boy frowning. Tyler opened his mouth, likely to ask what was wrong, when they came face to face with Marcel.
"Hey, Marcel" Jacqueline greeted the man
"Jacq" Marcel grinned at her and gave her a quick hug before he looked at Tyler and rose a brow. "This must be Tyler" he assumed
Tyler nodded, "Yeah. Nice to meet you, man"
Marcel looked amused as he nodded and watched Tyler make a quick escape into Davina's room. The teen girl greeting Tyler in an eager hug before they got to talking and joking - completely forgetting Marcel and Jacqueline who watched from the doorway.
"She's got a crush..." Marcel muttered
Jacqueline hummed indifferently, "Looks like" she agreed
Marcel cast her a look and rolled his eyes, "What are we gonna do about it?"
"Nothing" Jacqueline told him firmly as she leaned against the wall and faced him again. Marcel didn't look impressed by her answer but she was going to be honest with him. "We can't do anything. If we force them to stop seeing each other then it'll be worse... they need a friend right now"
Marcel scoffed, "He doesn't want to be her friend"
Jacqueline smirked at his protectiveness and pushed off the doorway so she was standing close to him. Jacqueline placed her hands on his chest and looked up into his eyes with all her amused seriousness. "They might have a crush but they're friends. They need someone their own age with similar experiences... we won't stand in the way of that" she gave him a look that said he needed to agree with her right about now.
Marcel sighed.
"Fine" he muttered bitterly
"Good" Jacqueline patted his chest as she smiled up at him in amusement.
Marcel rolled his eyes, "Yeah, yeah" he muttered then walked into the room and clapped his hands loudly. Both teens looked up at him startled and moved a little further apart. Marcel grinned, "Now, Tyler! Tell me about yourself!"
Jacqueline snickered.
"Uh, well" Tyler looked nervously between the three of them hoping one of them would come to his rescue. None of them did though and Tyler was forced to answer whatever questions Marcel asked. However, what Tyler didn't realise was that even though he was nervous and wary about the look Marcel was giving him... that the more Tyler showed he cared and was a good guy, the more Marcel was unable to stand in the way of him and Davina.
THREE WEEKS LATER:
Jaqueline sighed as she walked into the Church with Tyler already knowing that Marcel would be there with Davina. Jacqueline had called Marcel and asked him to meet her there so she could give them an important bit of news regarding her time in New Orleans. Jacqueline knew that Tyler was going to be reluctant but alright with the news. Marcel would be a little disappointed but not all that upset. It was just Davina that Jacqueline worried about being overly upset.
Jacqueline hoped to get Marcel to agree to letting Tyler continue to see Davina.
It wasn't like this was goodbye though... Jacqueline would keep in touch.
That was why she had given Davina a cell phone a few weeks back and now they would just have to rely on the device. Jacqueline knew without a doubt that this wouldn't be the last time they see each other though. Which was why she wasn't too upset about leaving for a little while, especially when she had no idea if it was even going to be a long time away or not.
The Coven elders want her to travel to a new Coven location.
Giovanni would be meeting here there and they'd be staying for a while. Enzo was up in the city as well which was a great bonus. Jacqueline hadn't seen Enzo in a few years and missed the man she spent years seeing almost daily. Jacqueline also missed Giovanni, though it had only been a few months since they'd last seen each other in person.
It would be nice to use magic freely once again too.
"Hey Davina, Marcel" Jacqueline greeted them both with a smile when she walked into the room. Jacqueline set the food she had brought down on the table and took a seat on Davina's bed.
"What's going on?" Marcel asked
"I've got to leave New Orleans for a little while... I don't know when I'll be back" Jacqueline explained and watched Marcel sigh and both Tyler and Davina's faces fall. "I really like it in New Orleans, so I know I'll be back as soon as I can. I have to go help some friends though and I don't know how long that will take"
Marcel nodded in acceptance - they had slept together once or twice over the time she'd been here. Jacqueline knew if she asked, Marcel would take her out. However, Jacqueline had decided that they were better as friends and he had backed off immediately. She knew Marcel would have liked to be more than friends, but Jacqueline knew she couldn't look at Marcel in a romantic way. They'd been drunk and wanted some fun... that was all it was.
That was all Jacqueline was capable of having.
"Tyler, I already arranged for you to continue staying with the Pack so you can keep learning. I'm gonna stay in contact as much as I possibly can. Alright?" Jacqueline asked searching his face for how he was really feeling.
Tyler cast a glance at Davina before he nodded in agreement. Clearly while Tyler was disappointed about her leaving, he was glad he was able to stay.
"Yeah... I'll do better at keeping in contact this time" he promised
Jacqueline gave him a stern look, "You better, Tyler, or I swear I'll curse you or something" she muttered seriously as he grinned a little at the threat. No doubt he would test her just to see if she'd do it and follow through on the threat - which she decided that she would. She'd turn him into a monkey or something equally as stupid like a turtle.
At least if he was a turtle she wouldn't loose him.
"And Davina..." Jacqueline was surprised when she saw tears in the girls eyes. She moved forward and hugged Davina in a rare and uncomfortable display of affection. "I'm gonna call you all the time. Same as Tyler. You're gonna have to keep both Tyler and Marcel in line now... god knows they need someone to kick their asses every now and then. Right?"
Davina giggled and nodded, "Promise you'll call?"
"We're family. Of course I'll call" Jacqueline promised without hesitation before she turned to Marcel and nodded her head outside the room.
Marcel nodded in understanding.
Jacqueline walked out of the room and waited as Marcel excused himself for a second so they could speak privately. Jacqueline sighed as she leaned against the wall not sure on what his response to what she was going to ask would be. She bit her lip when she looked at him, "I need you to do something for me while I'm gone" she said
"Let me guess; look out for Tyler?" Marcel said with a soft smile on his face as he stood beside her in the hallway.
"Please?" Jacqueline asked softly, "He's a good kid, Marcel. Even if you don't like werewolves or the Pack he's staying with... he's a good kid. I don't want to leave him unprotected"
Marcel sighed and reached out to hold her hand as he nodded his head in agreement. "Yeah, alright. I'll look after him for you. He'll be under my protection for as long as he's in New Orleans"
Jacqueline let out a breath and ignored the urge to pull away as Marcel held her hand. She knew he felt a little more for her than just friendship and if he wanted to hold her hand for a few seconds then so be it. It wasn't like it made her uncomfortable or anything... she just wasn't a hand holding type of person in general. Sighing she looked at him again, "You're gonna let Tyler keep seeing Davina right? I mean they need each other now more than ever"
Marcel rolled his eyes, "Davina would fry my brain if I tried to stop him from seeing her"
Jacqueline laughed and nodded knowing it was likely the truth.
"I feel better about leaving now" Jacqueline admitted in relief, "Thank you, Marcel" she squeezed his hands as she tried to express her thanks the best way she currently could.
Marcel nodded and leant forward, he pressed his lips to hers in a brief and gentle kiss before pulling her into a hug. Jacqueline returned the hug without sighing in annoyance. She wasn't sure why she is the way she is... but Jacqueline was never one of emotions. She didn't express them or seek physical contact with someone else - especially not some guy she had known for a few months. However, Jacqueline knew it was his way of saying goodbye and so she accepted it without complaint.
"I'll look after them" Marcel promised
"Okay. I'm going to take Tyler back to the Pack now. I'm gonna head out of New Orleans" Jacqueline said smiling at him kindly before she nodded at Tyler to follow her out of the room. "Marcell will take you to see Davina from now on" She told Tyler as they walked out of the Church. "If you ever need anything you can call Marcel. You're under his protection - just don't mention it to the Pack unless it's necessary"
Tyler nodded, "Thanks"
Jacqueline nodded and headed to her car as she drove Tyler back to the Pack and readied to head off to Florida to meet up with Giovanni. She was gonna miss New Orleans but somehow Jacqueline knew she would be back... New Orleans was going to be her home one day and she just had to wait for that time.
