ELENA POV:
Elena couldn't help the way her mouth hung open in pure shock. Nor could she stop the way her heart sunk and hands calmed up. She couldn't believe what she was hearing right now.
Didn't want to believe what she was hearing!
Couldn't believe it.
Stefan frowned in confusion and placed a comforting hand on her shoulders. "Isn't this good news?" Stefan asked
Elena gulped audibly before frantically shaking her head. This was most certainly not good news. Not with everything that had been happening in the past few years. There was absolutely no way Elena saw this ending well for her!
Bonnie and Caroline exchanged a knowing and anxious look.
"Listen, Elena, I doubt Jeremy will tell her anything" Bonnie began softly. "We'll keep it a secret. It's not like she'd believe us anyway"
Caroline bit her lip nervously, obviously having something to say but attempting to keep it to herself anyway. Caroline meekly raised her hand and bounced nervously on her heels.
Elena glared, "What Caroline?!" She demanded harsher than she really needed to be.
Caroline sighed, "Well, it's just that, I thought that she might already know..." the blonde trailed off uncertainly as she looked around the room.
Damon, Alaric and Stefan looked completely confused as they watched the conversation take place.
"How?!" Elena practically squeaked at Caroline as she grew incredulous. She couldn't believe that Caroline had betrayed her already!
How could Caroline do this to her?
After all the support Elena had given to Caroline... the blonde went and betrayed her the first chance she got. Elena couldn't help but feel hurt. Why didn't Caroline think about how Jacqueline knowing about all this would effect Elena?
Didn't Caroline care about how Elena felt?
"What did you do Caroline?" Bonnie snarled, easily siding with Elena.
Bonnie and Caroline were hardly even friends anymore... not since Caroline turned into a vampire. Though they weren't really very good friends before that either. With how jealous Caroline always got of Elena... well, Elena couldn't blame Bonnie for not wanting to be around that.
Caroline reared back at the accusation.
"Nothing!" Caroline yelled with a hurt look on her face. "When Tyler and I had that fling last year he had a tattoo with vervain in it!" Caroline defended
Oh.
Elena sighed remembering the ordeal with Jeremy and Damon's failed attempt to compel him. Elena had tried to make Jeremy forget about Viki but they hadn't realised Jeremy had vervain in his skin. Jeremy had played them for a few weeks until Elena tried to have him compelled to leave town.
Jeremy had been so mad at her for it!
It had hurt Elena a lot when her brother didn't do as she had asked. Especially when Jeremy had yelled that Elena wasn't Jacqueline and he didn't have to listen to her if he didn't want to.
It had hurt a lot.
Cause while Jacqueline had gone and left town - Elena had been ready to take care of her family.
Elena wanted to be the big sister who makes all the hard decisions. It had been hard to send Jeremy away but she had needed to do it. But because Jeremy hadn't listened, he had gotten hurt and killed.
Thank god for the Gilbert ring though!
Bonnie sighed, "I guess Jeremy and Tyler were always following her around"
Elena nodded and crossed her arms over her chest. "And she worked at that tattoo shop! I can't believe she let them get tattoos! That isn't even legal!" Elena whined angrily
Angry and hurt.
Angry that Jacqueline might have known about vampires before she had. Angry that Jacqueline might have been the one to tell Jeremy about Vampires before she had. Angry that Jeremy and Tyler liked Jacqueline more than her. Angry that this was another thing Jacqueline had done that would only make Elena's life harder.
She was also hurt that once again Jacqueline had succeeded in making everything about Jacqueline!
Ugh!
Elena had been the happiest of her life after Jacqueline left town. Despite all the near death experiences and loss she had faced. Elena had Stefan and Damon now and Alaric and Bonnie. Everything was great when they forgot Jacqueline's existence.
Elena had finally been getting the attention she deserved and needed!
Now Jacqueline was back to ruin everything like she always does.
"I can't believe this is happening!" Elena sniffled
"Could someone actually explain what's going on?" Alaric huffed a little as he looked between them all in confusion.
Elena, Bonnie and Caroline shared a pained and worried look.
"Jacqueline's back" Caroline said ominously
Elena nodded with determination as she look at her group of friends. She wasn't going to let Jacqueline ruin everything. Elena looked at them all before adding, "And we have to make her leave" with all the determination she could muster.
Jacqueline was a little disgusted at the sight of the Gilbert house. She wondered how Jenna had let it get this bad. Jeremy had filled her in on most of what had gone down... but the poor kid had been drained.
Emotionally and physically.
Jacqueline couldn't believe Elena had let all this happen to Jeremy. Jacqueline could barely reconcile the Elena that Jeremy had described and the one she remembered.
"You've been gone a while, Jacqueline" Jeremyhad said sadly, "A lot happened in that time. A lot changed. Elena most of all is different - she's not our Elena Gilbert anymore and I don't think she will be again"
It had been sad to hear.
Jacqueline wasn't sure if Jeremy was right or not. She needed to see for herself to be able to decide. Though she suspected if Elena was separated from those vampire brothers that she might be okay again. Jacqueline couldn't imagine Elena ever doing the things Jeremy explained before the Salvatore brothers showed up.
Elena had been a good girl.
A girl who screamed when a tiny spider was killed.
There was just no way that Elena was truly okay with these brothers and all they had done. Not when they contyuse to put the people Elena cares about in danger. No amount of love was worth your brothers life!
Jacqueline might not be a saint but no man would get away with putting her family in harms way.
No matter what.
Jacqueline firmly believed in family loyalty above all else. She had instilled that as best she could into Elena, Jeremy and Tyler. Jacqueline had also tried to set a good example for protecting your family too.
She hoped it paid off now.
Maybe Elena didn't know how badly Jeremy was suffering?
Jacqueline always had known that Elena was more on the self-centred side sometimes. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing but it could explain a lot. Especially if Elena had just been too caught up to see what she was doing to her very own little brother. Jacqueline hoped that all she had to do was show Elena how bad things had gotten.
Jacqueline sighed.
Things really had gotten bad... worse than she ever imagined they could get.
Her goddam sister had been sacrificed and resurrected!
Jacqueline knew though that Elena had done just as many bad things. While Jeremy had explained what was done to Elena, he also explained what Elena had done in return. Jacqueline struggled with thinking of her little sister being anything but innocent, but it was the truth. Elena had gotten her own revenge and now it's time to heal from the experience.
No more blood needs to be shed.
It would only cause more pain now. Especially when the people they're going up against are The Original Vampires.
That was a fight Elena wouldn't win.
And too much is at stake to even attempt a fight like that. Jacqueline had heard the stories and read the history - none of which was pretty. Jacqueline wouldn't let her family turn into one of the many cautionary tales of why you don't pick fights you can't win.
She'd protect her family.
If that meant staying and keeping Elena in line then so be it. The task would be frustrating and not pleasant but apparently necessary.
At least it would keep them alive.
Jacqueline's magic tingled in awareness a few seconds before the front door burst open. Supernaturals - 2 fairly old vampires, 1 baby vampire, 1 little witch, a human and... and someone else. Someone with a supernatural aura Jacqueline didn't recognise.
Jacqueline straightened up.
"Jacqueline!" Elena yelled before stomping into the kitchen.
Jacqueline observed her sister in fond exasperation. She wasn't surprised at the wounded puppy look on Elena face, had been expecting as much.
"Lena" Jacqueline gave her you her sister a calm and casual smile.
Elena glared weakly.
More people walked into the kitchen then. Jacqueline observed them with blatant indifference. Bonnie - a nature bound witch - looked the same but only with magic now. For a nature witch Bonnie was strong and yet still paled in comparison to the power Jacqueline held.
Power that she didn't bother hiding.
Caroline - a newly turned vampire - still looked ready to burst into tears at the sight of Jacqueline. The blonde still looked as fashionable as ever though.
Jacqueline's attention went to the two older vampires.
One with dark black hair and blue eyes was inspecting her head to toe. He looked cocky and oozed sarcastic confidence. He might be attractive if he didn't think too highly of himself. He wasn't all that strong and she guessed around 200 years old. Jacqueline could only assume he was Damon Salvatore.
The other vampires had to be Stefan Salvatore. The weak one of the two brothers - on a 'bunny diet' to deny his nature. The moral and righteous one who reminded the biggest hypocrite Jacqueline ever heard of. He looked relieved when he spotted Jacqueline, as if he dismissed her as merely human without a second thought.
Jacqueline snorted in amusement, surprising the group who had clearly expected more of a reaction.
It was cute.
Calling them 'the Scooby gang' made a lot of sense now too.
"I'm calling a family a meeting tonight. Be home for dinner, Elena" Jacqueline said dismissively before she turned back to pouring her coffee.
Elena spluttered.
"You can't tell me what to do!" Elena yelled indignantly. "You left and you can't just come back and take over my life!"
Jacqueline elegantly rose one brow in silent challenge.
Elena only spluttered even more. "I don't want you here! You need to leave! I don't have to listen to you anymore!"
Jacqueline stared Elena down sternly but looked the picture of confidence as she remained silent. Elena seemed to stutter more when she realised Jacqueline was serious.
"Elena" Jacqueline's voice was short and held warning in it.
Stefan stepped forward placatingly, "Look, uh, Jacqueline, right? Well, I guess you've been gone for a long time - and Ricks been taking care of Elena. I don't know why your back but, uh, clearly you can't expect to walk back into their lives and make demands"
Elena looked glad for the support.
"I'll do what ever I please" Jacqueline shrugged indifferently to Stefans speech.
Stefans face pinched in surprise. As if he had expected her to take his opinion to heart.
Jacqueline sipped her drink as she returned her eyes to Elena. "You'll be home in time for dinner. I won't repeat myself, Elena." Her voice made it clear that there was no room for discussion.
This wasn't a suggestion.
Elena swallowed and widened her tearful eyes.
Jacqueline remained indifferent to the ploy to get her to waver. She wouldn't - they were in need of a conversation. No puppy eyes were going to change that.
Damon scoffed, "Looks like the good brothers plans fell through" he said as if that proved some point he had been trying to make. Damon sped in front of Jacqueline in the blink of an eye.
Damon's vamp face was on full display.
Jacqueline remained indifferent, with a spell to conceal her heart rate she didn't physically startle. Jacqueline gave Damon a dry look of slight annoyance. "My family matters are of no concern to you" she said diplomatically
Just as Giovanni had taught her to do when her anger threatened to take a hold before it needed to.
Damon looked shocked.
Growling Damon lunged for her but Jacqueline barely batted an eyelash as she sent him flying into a wall. Damon's body crumpled against the wall with more force than the group had likely witnessed before. A pained yell escaped Damon as a few ribs cracked. Jacqueline continued to remain indifferent and didn't bother more than a casual glance in his direction.
"You can stay with your friends for the afternoon, but you will be here for dinner" Jacqueline repeated as she stared Elena down.
"Who the hell do you think you are!" Bonnie screeched
Jacqueline gave Bonnie an exasperated look that effectively screamed 'I have better things to do than listen to your tantrum'. Jacqueline thanked the Mancinelli blood for allowing her to give such looks.
Bonnie let out a small screech of offence.
Bonnie held out her hands, chanting a spell in Latin, and looking as if she was needing to prove she was powerful. It would have been cute if it wasn't so annoying.
Jacqueline sighed.
Bonnies spell made the things in the kitchen clatter loudly. Bonnie looked furious when Jacqueline remained looking as bored as ever.
"Are you done yet?" Jacqueline asked with an eye roll
"Why are you doing this to me!" Elena cried making it all about her again.
"This is my town now!" Bonnie yelled at Jacqueline moving to back Elena up. Bonnie tried another spell that once again had no effect on Jacqueline.
Jacqueline was feeling spite rearing it's ugly head.
Which never ended well for people on the other end of it... especially not when that someone was a judgmental little witch who thinks she's all powerful.
"Bennet!" Jacqueline said, her voice a hard command that had everyone in the room falling silent in shock. Jacqueline's voice echoed off the walls making it even more intimidating. "You aren't capable of possessing a quarter of the power that I have. All your little 'who's dicks bigger' contest is doing is wasting my afternoon!"
Bonnie looked offended.
Damon thought he was quiet as he tried to charge at her from behind.
Jacqueline decided this was one of the times that fear was required to have people listen. Clearly this little group think of themselves as a powerful bunch. Jacqueline was going to have to show them otherwise.
A little dramatic flare only made it more fun!
Jacqueline smirked.
She breathed deep and let her magic put on a show that would instill some much needed fear and respect.
Bonnie, Elena, Caroline, Damon, Alaric and Stefan found themselves frozen mid air. The house shook with a dramaticly loud rumble. Sparks burst from the lights in the ceiling. Plates, glasses and windows shattered and sent glass through the house. A little bit of smoke crept along the floor and up their ankles in Jacqueline's effort for dramatics.
A red glow encompassed the room shining from behind Jacqueline. Her body floated in the air, hovering in front of them.
Elena cried in fear and surprise.
Damon and Stefan registered the threat and fought to get loose to take her down.
Caroline whimpered and shied further away.
Bonnie looked fearful as she failed to use her magic.
Alaric looked on with wide and fearful eyes - he seemed to be the only one who could accept that they met their match.
"I'm not leaving. This is my town. I trusted that Elena would be able to be responsible enough to look after her family but she clearly isn't. If one of you step out of line again then I'll be here to put you back in your places!" Jacqueline said eerily calm as her voice boomed across the room threateningly. "Don't test me. I'm a friend for now but if you cross me then it'll be the last thing any of you do!"
And she meant it.
Jacqueline allowed her magic to crackle in the air as she approached Bonnie Bennet. The girl needed a lesson and it was going to be a harsh one. So Jacqueline placed her hands on either side of Bonnies face.
Bonnie screamed.
Jacqueline remained impassive as she took the Bennet witches magic away. It didn't hurt as much as Bonnie was making it seem - most of the scream was from fear anyway. Jacqueline hoped that a few weeks with no magic was enough of a wake up call for the Bennet witch to realise she wasn't invincible.
"Now get out of my house!" Jacqueline commanded as she released her hold on them.
Nobody stayed to fight.
They scurried out of the house like the place was on fire.
Jacqueline chuckled once she was sure they were gone. She reached out with her magic to fix the windows and anything that had broke. Sure, she could have been nicer about explaining she was here to stay... but the group were too arrogant to hear it.
They couldn't deny it now though.
"Having fun?" Jeremy asked with an amused chuckle from the doorway.
Jacqueline grinned slyly at her little brother who only snorted and shook his head in response.
"It's good to have you home, Jaq" Jeremy smiled softly
Jacqueline had excused herself for the night after she had found out. Now she was left to wander the streets without aim or purpose. She felt more guilt now that she had ever felt in her life.
This was her fault.
Jacqueline should have been here but instead she had been off travelling the world. She'd been having fun while her family had been dying.
Jeremy had been killed repeatedly by his supposed friends.
Elena had been sacrificed and resurrected.
John had been even more dramatic that Jacqueline and admitted he was Elena's dad right before he gave his life for Elena.
Mason had been tortured by Elena and Damon.
Jenna had been murdered.
Through all that Death Elena had remained at the centre of it all. The little group of supernatural drama fighters had only, in the end, made things worse. There hadn't been a need for this much death. Yet it had happened because the group had no regard for anyone other then Elena.
Jacqueline was disgusted and disappointed.
She had thought - and hoped - Elena had been the one caught up in all this. Had hoped it was the Salvatore brothers running the show. Instead it was looking more and more like Elena was in charge. Elena had killed with her boyfriends... for her boyfriends. Elena had killed because she and those Salvatore brothers didn't have any awareness of their situation. They tended to forget there are people more powerful out there.
Jacqueline never expected that this would be what she found after coming back.
She couldn't help but feel like a failure.
Cause if she had been here none of that would have happened. Jacqueline would never have let it happen in the first place.
But she wasn't there.
And it had already happened.
Elena seemed to thrive in the chaos of the messy supernatural situations she had caused. It was as if Elena liked the attention and plotting. In fact, Elena was determined to continue on waging war as if she had a chance in hell of winning it.
Anything for Elena to get more attention and be at the forefront of her friends minds.
Elena was loving having the 'good' brother in her bed and the 'bad' one wishing it was him. Bonnie was Elena's personal witch and Caroline would practically do anything just to be included by Elena.
Jacqueline was baffled.
Never before had she seen this side of Elena and now that she had...
No.
Jacqueline couldn't turn her back on her sister, not now, not ever. Clearly Elena needed some serious help to stop this destructive behaviour. God Elena needed Jacqueline now more to an ever. Cause this game of playing victim will get her killed soon.
And what for?
A little attention from two vampire brothers who are already at Elena's every whim?
The knowledge of having Bonnie Bennett ready and willing to kill or be killed at Elena's say so?
Or was it for the look of eager excitement Caroline got whoever Elena decided to give her the time of day?
Jacqueline shook her head sadly as she remembered the sister she had once know. It felt like she was mouthing her little sister along with everyone who had been killed because of Elena. This version of Elena wasn't someone Jacqueline liked. In fact, Jacqueline would have condemned Elena along with the rest of her friends if not for the small hope Elena might see what she's done and fix it.
Poor Jenna had to suffer the consequences of Elena's bad decisions.
Oh, Jenna!
Jacqueline grabbed the bottle of whiskey and took a sip as she came to sit at Jennas grave. Jenna had been a great friend to Jacqueline and she couldn't believe what had happened.
"I'll make it right again, Jenna" Jacqueline swore
It wouldn't be easy but Jacqueline would get Elena on the right path again. She would end this war before it turns into a bloodbath. Jacqueline owed her family that much at least.
She wouldn't fail again!
Never again.
