Jacqueline smiled as she and Rebekah walked arm in arm towards her car. They had developed a routine of getting breakfast together each morning. Jacqueline would drop off Jeremy and then meet Rebekah. They had been spending nearly every day together while Jeremy was at school. It was suffice to say they were extremely close friends now. Jacqueline had never thought she would of liked having a friend this much, but she couldn't imagine life without Rebekah now.

"Today was fun" Rebekah said smiling at her

Jacqueline returned the smile as she nodded in agreement. "Though I don't think I'll be hungry again until dinner!" She said

Rebekah laughed.

Jacqueline got in the drivers side of the car as she pulled out of the parking lot. They had gone to the little cafe in the next town over this morning. After 2 lattes and caramel syrup waffles, Jacqueline was full.

It had been delicious though.

"Do you want me to drop you at home?" Jacqueline asked knowing Rebekah was helping Elijah with something for Esther.

Rebekah nodded, "That would be fine"

Jacqueline nodded as she drove and hummed along with Rebekah to the radio. With all the time they had been spending together, Rebekah had heard all of Jacqueline's favourite songs. Now they both knew them well enough to sing or tap along.

Then I saw red

When I opened up the door

I saw red

My heart just spilled onto the floor

And I didn't need to see his face

I saw yours

I saw red when I closed the door

Rebekah and Jacqueline both laughed a little when the song ended. Jacqueline thought the song was dramatic and sappy but it was still a catchy tune nonetheless.

Jacqueline pulled up outside the Mikaelson mansion.

"See you later, Jaq" Rebekah said before leaning over and giving Jacqueline a quick hug.

"Later Beka" Jacqueline nodded as she watched Rebekah exit her car and head into the mansion. Jacqueline pulled away and headed to her own house. She was always a little unhappy when their breakfast plans came to an end, but she was glad to be going to relax at home.

Spending time with Rebekah was always great.

They had a lot fun together and their morning breakfast left her in a good mood each day. Jacqueline was really starting to come around to liking this friendship thing.

Especially with Rebekah.

However Jacquelines good mood didn't last long when she pulled into the driveway and spotted Damon and Bonnies cars out front. Elena always bounced between staying here and the Salvatore mansion.

It was annoying.

Especially when Elena living here meant that the rest of the Scooby gang came over too.

Jacqueline used her magic to make sure she was silent as she walked into the house. They always clammed up when she was around. She wanted to know what they had been whispering about for the past few weeks.

"How do we know we can trust Esther?" Damon was saying

"We don't have a choice!" Stefan retorted back at Damon.

"Stefans right" Bonnie cut in, "I've spoken to Esther and she's going to be drawing from my bloodline... she wants them all dead as much as we do. We should trust Esther"

"I don't know about this plan" Elena said, "I think we should trust Esther too. She's had years on the other side to plan this. We should just let her try. I mean, look how it turned out last time we tried to make a move"

"Yeah" Damon scoffed, "We got a scolding from your sister!"

Elena sighed, "Exactly. If this is going to work Jacqueline can never know about it"

"What exactly is your sisters issue with this?" Stefan asked, "She's friends with the enemy now?"

Elena sighed, "Rebekah. Yeah, I think they're friends. Which is all the more reason why we need Esther to kill them. I can't let my sister be manipulated by Rebekah!"

"I dont think Jacqueline is being manipulated" Damon scoffed

"Whatever Damon" Elena hissed, "How else do you explain Jacqueline being around Rebekah?!"

"Well maybe they're friends" Caroline said quietly. "I mean, is that so hard to believe? Sure, Klaus has hurt you and all of us but Rebekah hadn't done-"

"You too?!" Elena yelled, "Are you gonna run off and tell my sister then? To save precious Rebekah?! Why do you and Damon even like her?!"

"What? No!" Caroline yelled, offended at the accusation

Jacqueline frowned from where she stood in the doorway. She had known they were plotting something but this sounded a lot worse than anything she'd thought of. Jacqueline pulled out her phone and texted Rebekah.

Hey, Beka. Could you tell Elijah that I need to speak with him as soon as possible. It's important - Jacqueline

Jacqueline listened to them arguing over stupid shit as her phone vibrated again with Rebekah's response.

Sure. Is everything okay? Elijah wants to know when and where you want to meet? - Rebekah

Jacqueline bit her lip as she texted back.

My house. Now if possible. I guess we'll see soon if we all have a situation on our hands or not. - Jacqueline

Jacqueline retracted her silencing magic and opened and shut the front door again. She walked into the room pretending as if she had just arrived. Jacqueline looked around the now silent group and rose a brow at them all. "What are you doing here?" Jacqueline demanded

"We're leaving!" Caroline squeaked and fled with an equally fearful Bonnie.

Jacqueline rolled her eyes and looked between Elena, Stefan and Damon. Her eyes narrowed on the vampires before she gave them a stern look. "Elena will speak to you tomorrow"

It wasn't optional.

Stefan sighed but had learnt better than to try and argue. After kissing Elena goodbye, Stefan left the house with Damon right behind him.

Jacqueline stared Elena down in silence.

Elena shuffled nervously and squirmed under the intensity of Jacqueline's stare. Jacqueline silently took amusement in the fact she could make someone squirm like that with just a look. Not to mention her 'looks' had improved during her time with Giovanni.

"Is everything okay?" Elena muttered nervously

Jacqueline tilted her head in a way she knew would only further unnerve the teenager. "You tell me?" She said simply

Elena gave a jerky nod in response.

Jacqueline remained silent until someone rang the doorbell. "You can come on in!" She called out, without moving from where she was staring Elena down.

Elijah had already been invited in anyway.

"Jacqueline" Elijah greeted as diplomatically as he always did. The vampire looked at Jacqueline and then at Elena who paled at his presence. "Is something the matter?"

"I believe so, yes" Jacqueline confirmed but her eyes never strayed from Elena

Elena looked to the floor.

"Elena" Jacqueline prompted harshly

Elena flinched a little at the tone of voice and avoided all eye contact. "I, uh, everything is fine" Elena attempted to say

Elijah looked at Jacqueline with a raised brow.

"I believe there is some information regarding your mother that Elena will be glad to brief you on" Jacqueline used Giovanni's training in diplomatic speech so that she could cut emotions out of this.

Elijah froze briefly but didn't look surprised, rather he looked sad.

Elena's wide eyes blinked at Jacqueline in shock. Elena looked very much like a deer caught in the headlights.

Jacqueline remained as calm and collected as ever. She purposefully buried any emotions about the situation. She could deal with those later, right now she had to get the truth out of Elena.

Her feelings weren't important at the moment.

Jacqueline strode forward and grabbed Elena's arm in a firm grip. She held Elena's chin in her hands and forced the girl to meet her eyes. Jacqueline gave Elena a cold look as she spoke. "You are going to start telling the truth, Elena. If I hear another lie come from your mouth I won't be as forgiving as I'm currently willing to be"

Elena yelped a little as tears welled in her eyes. "Jacqueline!" Elena pleaded, "Just trust me! I'm doing the right thing!"

Jacqueline remained cold, "I do not believe are, Elena. Now you'll tell me the truth willingly or I'll force you to. The choice is yours"

Elena sniffled, "You can't compel me!"

Jacqueline snorted, "My little Lena" she gently ran her hand across Elena's cheek. The action was a rare display of true affection from Jacqueline and it made Elena relax momentarily. "I love you, Elena. I love you but I don't like you"

Elena flinched.

"What?" Elena whispered in horror

Jacqueline smiled sadly as her turmoil became visible. "This person you've become now, I don't like it. You used to have compassion, understanding, kindness, innocence - now your manipulative and cruel and selfish"

Elena sobbed

Jacqueline still held firmly onto Elena's face so she couldn't turn away.

Elena needed to hear this.

Jacqueline continued, "You look like my little Lena. The girl I raised and the girl who broke my heart in her grief by sending me away. You look like her but you don't act like it. You've changed into a person I honestly can say I don't like"

Elena sobbed even harder, "Jacqueline! P-please don't say that!"

Jacqueline hummed as she ran a gentle hand along Elena's face, calming the girl that in this moment made her remember the 10 year old Elena.

"This is up to you to fix, Elena. You need to stop this. You're in the wrong here, Elena" Jacqueline said sternly, " You need to start telling the truth"

Elena sniffled and nodded as tears streamed down her face.

Jacqueline let go and looked to Elijah who had been watching silently. "Now, Elena" Jacqueline commanded sternly

Elena looked to the floor but spoke to Elijah nonetheless. "Wh-when we took the coffin we thought it would be a weapon against Klaus! I got Bonnie to open it cause that's what we thought it would be. I- I didn't know Esther would be in there!"

Elijah nodded, "What does this have to do with anything? My mother has said she is here to unite my family"

Elena sniffled and shook her head, "Esther asked to speak with me at the ball. She took some of my blood and used it in a spell to link all of you"

Elijah looked started, "That's how we were to die when Kol was stabbed in Jacqueline's vision" he said in realisation

"Your linked now. Esther is planning to kill you all" Elena announced

Elijah was silent for a second before he looked at Jacqueline again. "Thank you for bringing this to my attention. It is much appreciated"

Jacqueline softened as she placed a hand on Elijahs arm. "Do what you have to do, Elijah" she said kindly

Elijah gave her a sad smile before he disappeared out of the house.

Jacqueline turned back to Elena and sighed. "Elena you need to think about who you want to be. Cause if you keep going on as you are then I don't want to be around you. You have to decide; family or some supernatural shit show?"

Elena looked hurt.

Jacqueline couldn't allow herself to care though. It was the harsh truth of the situation. If Elena continued to make decisions as she had been doing, then it was going to get them all killed. Jacqueline couldn't be everywhere all at once - she was lucky she had overheard what she had today.

Next time she might not be so lucky...

So Elena was going to have to decide - family or drama. If Elena couldn't choose her family then Jacqueline would have no choice but to send Elena to the Salvatores. Jacqueline wouldn't risk endangering Jeremy in Elena's messes.

Jacqueline was stood in the kitchen making herself a sandwich when she felt the presence of vampires. Jacqueline rolled her eyes but didn't turn to look at them.

Damon and Stefan.

"Are you gonna keep making a snack or help us?" Damon asked

Jacqueline hummed, "What do you need my help with? You got yourself into this mess... get yourself out" she retorted

Stefan sighed, "Elijah has Elena"

Jacqueline felt her heart sink a little at that, but she concealed it from them. Instead she forced herself to continue on as if she didn't care. Jacqueline hated that this was happening, she truly did, but Elena had brought this in herself.

These are the consequences of waging war.

Jacqueline wouldn't have responded any differently had it been her family someone was trying to kill.

"What does he want in exchange?" Jacqueline asked flippantly

Stefan scoffed in disbelief

Damon however answered her question. "He was oddly specific about us having until 9:06 to stop Bonnie and Abbey from being channeled"

Jacqueline had figured as much.

She turned to the brothers with a raised brow. "You need my help to do that, why?" Jacqueline asked dryly

The task was just about as simple as it sounded. Either kill or turn Abbey and Bonnie and be done with it. The two witches wouldn't ever suspect Damon and Stefan of going against them on this.

It should be easy.

"We need you to help us brainstorm a plan" Damon said

Stefan sighed, "We should just call Bonnie"

Damon nodded, "There has to be some way for us to stop this ritual. A way to stop Esther from channelling her powers. Right Miss BloodWitch?"

Jacqueline nodded, "Either kill or turn Bonnie and or Abbey" She said with a careless shrug of her shoulders. "I vote Abbey. She was a useless witch anyway"

Damon rolled his eyes.

"We can't do that" Stefan said angrily. "We need another way"

"Why would you need another way" Jacqueline frowned at them both. "It's simple; Abbey or Elena"

"A) What if Abbey is with Esther. B) What if that doesn't cut her off and C)I don't know how any of this witchy thing works" Damon retorted

"It's a simple plan" Jacqueline said looked between them both. "You can't draw magic form a vampire"

"We're not killing Bonnie or Abbey!" Stefan snapped and walked out of the room. "This was pointless"

Damon sighed as he watched Stefan go and then turned back to Jacqueline. He shrugged, "We'll find another way. Hopefully. We still have a little time left"

Jacqueline nodded and watched him go.

He wasn't gonna kill Bonnie or Abbey and she knew it. Damon was gonna dick around until it was too late all because he's letting his feelings get in the way. Cause he doesn't want to be the bad guy in Elena's story anymore. Stefan certainly wasn't gonna do this - he made that clear enough.

Jacqueline scoffed.

She picked her a map of Mystic falls and pricked her finger. The tiny drop of blood landed on the map. Jacqueline focused on Bonnie and Abbey in her mind and watched as the blood moved to their location.

Not even a Nature Bound witches cloaking spell could stop Jacquelines magic.

She smirked.

The old witch house near the quarry. Jacqueline rolled her eyes wondering why she'd even had to check. It was all rather obvious, almost like they thought they were invincible.

She was about to prove them wrong.

Jacqueline headed for her car as she drove to the quarry. She used her magic to reach out and ensure she was absolutely silent. Jacqueline didn't know what she would find but her magic was ready for a fight.

It was starting to get dark when she pulled up at the quarry.

Jacqueline got out of the car and headed straight for the witch house. She could feel the angry spirts rejecting her presence. They hated her and her power - wanted her gone. Jacqueline didn't care though and she continued to ignore their futile attempts.

"Mom-" Bonnie was saying to Abbey

Jacqueline silently approached, she knew what she had to do. However, there was a less horrible option and she was going to take it. Jacqueline pulled out a vital of vampire blood. She held it in her hand and approached behind Abbey stealthily. When Bonnie turned into the basement, Jacqueline took her chance. Shoving the vital into Abbeys mouth she used all her force to snap the witches neck.

Abbey fell to the floor dead.

Jacqueline reached out with her magic and locked Bonnie in the basement. She could hear Bonnie calling for Abbey and banging on the door but paid it no mind.

Jacqueline still had more to do.

The reinforcements she called in earlier will be here soon. Jacqueline wanted to get to the ritual sight first though. Cause she knew the Mikaelsons might not take too kindly to her Coven swooping in.

Jacqueline hoped to soften that blow.

Quickly, Jacqueline rushed over to where she could hear a commotion occurring. A pentagon of fire was protecting Esther and Finn. While Elijah, Klaus and Kol angrily paced outside It. The flames brightened and the ground shook a little as Esther looked around worriedly.

"No sisters!" Esther screamed, "Do not abandon me!"

Jacqueline approached and stood silently behind behind the pentagon. She reached out with her magic and lashed out at Finn. The vampire crumpled to the floor in a deep sleep. Esther spun around and spotted Jacqueline at the same time as Elijah, Klaus and Kol did.

Her magic had made her presence known already.

It was pure power tinging the air.

"Hello" Jacqueline said doing her best to ensure she gave off a confident and careless demeanour. "I'm sorry I'm late. I had a Bennet to kill"

Kol chuckled, "Hello, Love"

Jacqueline grinned at him before her eyes went back to Ester. The older witch sneered in Jacqueline's direction. "You interfering in something that is not your business child-" Esther yelled

Jacqueline dismissively waved a hand as she parted the flames and stepped into the pentagon. "I'm here to inform you that I cannot allow you to kill your children. It's not your place to do so. On behalf of le streghe d'Italia we stand alongside the Mikaelson children"

Kol looked giddy in excitement.

Esther just looked appalled

"They're abominations! Just like you!" Esther spat

Jacqueline laughed, "And you call me a child" she snorted in genuine amusement. "Your ignorance has made you blind"

"My ignorance!" Ester repeated with an offended look on her face. "You know of nothing we speak of"

"I know that your one of the most arrogant people Ive had the misfortune of ever meeting" Jacqueline said dryly, "The mere fact that you think your significant enough to have ever created something to defy nature is stunning"

Esther held her chin high, "I know of dark magic you wouldn't-"

"Yeah, yeah" Jacqueline rolled her eyes as she cut Esther off with an exasperated sigh. "You were some witchy boss bitch a 1000 years ago"

Kol chuckled.

Klaus snorted.

Ester made a face of disgust at Jacquelines language.

"You, Esther, are as much of a child as I am. Your magic, no matter how dark, couldn't ever create something against the balance. Your a utter moron if you think otherwise" Jacqueline shrugged carelessly as Esther failed to use a spell to hurt her.

More power crackled in the air.

Familiar power that washed over Jacqueline with a wave of strength and power.

The Coven.

Jacqueline was sure it was a sight to behold. She knew Kol could appreciate it the most. Especially as the three vampires stiffened at the feeling of magic in the air - their body's telling them if the unmatched threat lurking.

Esther shrank back in fear.

"The coven is here!" Jacqueline happily informed the confused men.

Various men and women suddenly emerged from around the quarry. They surrounded the area. Jacqueline breathed in the air blissfully as he magic thrummed and crackled in recognition of her coven.

Kol looked like he was bouncing in his heels in excitement.

Giovanni stepped forward, "My child" she greeted Jacqueline. Then Giovanni stepped to Jacquelines side and faced Esther. Jacqueline smirked at Esther who rightfully shook in fear at the sight of BloodWitches.

"Ester Mikaelson" Giovanni diplomatically spoke, eyes cold, voice even and strong. "For an act in attempt to harm the balance you must return to suffering your punishment on the other side!"

Esther stood tall in defiance, "You have no right!"

"That may be your opinion" Giovanni dismissed, "Nevertheless It is the actions I wish to take"

"I have watched them for a thousand years! They're monsters!" Esther yelled, "I am here to fix what i have done!"

"No" Giovanni spoke condescendingly, "Your true goal is a poor attempt at finding a loophole in the punishment you were sentenced to in death. Is it not?"

Esther remained silent.

"What punishment?" Klaus demanded to know as he glared at his mother

Jacqueline softened when she met Klaus confused and angry eyes. "A Nature Bound witch casting a spell uses the elements of the earth - water, fire, earth, air. It's not possible for a spell to work if it goes against the balance. It would have just killed you and probably Esther if that were the case. However, Esther used a celestial event to get more magic. A celestial event is still part of natures elements so the spell, while dark, worked. Vampires were born"

"I know that" Klaus snapped, "But what punishment?"

Jacqueline didn't take offence to his harshness. She answered him nonetheless. "In death Esther has been punished for attempting to abandon her magical requirements. She thought using a celestial event would let her use magic that wasn't hers to use"

Klaus still looked a little confused but didn't say anything else.

Esther stared at Giovanni.

Giovanni stared back.

"It's time" Jonás said as he approached, the elder witch gave Jacqueline a proud smile that she attempted not to preen under.

She failed though.

Jacqueline winced and hoped nobody noticed but one look at Kol's raised brow said he had.

Jonás Mancinelli is the oldest BloodWitch alive. His BloodBonded is a beautiful 980 year old woman named Pria. Jonás, as a result, is one of the elders within the coven. He's certainly the most powerful of them all after having lived 900 years as a BloodWitch. Jonás is one of the most respected BloodWitches alive.

Ever.

Jacqueline doubted even Giovanni wouldn't have preened under his compliments.

In fact, Jacqueline was embarrassed to say she felt down right giddy to have his approval. Jacqueline hated herself a little for the reaction but figured as long as she never admitted to it then she was fine.

Right?

Giovanni gave her a knowing look and Jacqueline crossed her arms over her chest in annoyance. Giovanni huffed out a small laugh. Jacqueline scowled at Esther so she didn't have to look at her Grandmothers amused face.

Shit.

Jacqueline watched the following actions in silence.

Jonás drained Esther of her magic and then ripped out her heart. He respectfully gave his apologies to Elijah, Kol and Klaus but they didn't seem too upset about it.

"Jacqueline" Jonás said and gave her shoulder a squeeze as he elegantly passed. "You have represented us well"

Jacqueline bit her lip to hold back the smile as she nodded at the man. "Thank you. It was my pleasure and honour"

Jonás smiled kindly and walked away

Jacqueline looked at Giovanni and beamed. She just couldn't help it. Giovanni chuckled a kissed her forehead. "My dearest child, you make me proud"

Jacqueline huffed as she tried her best to look unaffected by the compliments. "I'm glad" she said indifferently

Giovanni just laughed before walking away

"That's your coven?" Kol asked

Jacqueline barely heard him as she watched them all disappear into the tree lines. The air crackled in magic as they teleported back to the Coven location. Jacqueline shook herself out of her haze when she felt a hand on her shoulder

"Are you quite alright?" Elijah asked

Jacqueline grinned, "I can't believe Jonás showed up" she whispered in amazement

Klaus snorted

Jacqueline slapped a hand over her mouth in embarrassment. She looked at the three vampires with wide eyes. She could barely believe she had said that out loud.

Kol chuckled, "Got a bit of a crush have you?"

Jacqueline pulled a face, "No. Jonás and Pria and BloodBonded" she shook her head. "They're like royals... he's my Great-Grandfather times like a hundred or something"

Kol frowned, "But he's a witch"

Jacqueline smiled and nodded, "Yeah. He's the most powerful in the coven. He's 900 years old"

"How is that possible?" Kol demanded to know

Jacqueline just grinned and continued walking with a little more pep in her step. This day might have been a shit show... but at least Jonás had showed up for it. Jacqueline could hear Kol complain about being ignored but she didn't care.

Klaus chuckled again.

REBEKAH POV:

Rebekah watched as Elena was about to get into her car and knew she didn't have long to pull this off. Speeding forward, Rebekah grabbed Elena and in a matter of seconds they arrived inside the tunnels on the outskirts of town.

The tunnels from her human years...

Elena screamed a little and stumbled forward. "What the hell!?" Elena yelled whirling around and freezing once she spotted Rebekah.

Rebekah smirked.

Elena started running away as fast as her human legs could take her.

Rebekah rolled her eyes and sped in front of Elena. "Going somewhere?" She quirked an eyebrow mockingly at the doppelgänger

Elena's heart hammered in her chest rather loudly. "W-what are you doing here?"

"Not much" Rebekah retorted taking more amusement in Elena's fear than she likely should have. "Unless you try to run... in which case, I get to kill you" she grinned.

Elena narrowed her eyes in an attempt to look brave but still shied away.

Rebekah pulled out her phone and opened the camera app. Modern day technology truly was a rather amazing thing indeed. Holding the phone up Rebekah hit record. "Alright. Look at the camera" Rebekah instructed Elena

Elena frowned, "What are you doing?"

"Shooting a video to inspire your boyfriends. Why don't you tell them how delightful it is being stuck in here with your biggest fan" Rebekah taunted

"I guess you think I had this coming, Huh?" Elena sulked with wide eyes that belonged to a victim - not someone who was only getting a taste of her own medicine.

Rebekah grit her teeth and stopped recording.

This was why she hated the Petrona women. They were attention seeking, manipulative, greedy, selfish women who loved nothing more than to be the victims of every situation. Rebekah hadn't seen it at the time with Tatia but it had become all too clear after the fact. Then Katherine and Elena had both been the same. Rebekah thought Elena was the worse of the three doppelgängers though. Because at least Tatia and Katherine had admitted to knowing what they were doing.

Elena clung to playing victim.

Rebekah scoffed, "You know, I don't know what I want more; to find out we're saved or to be allowed to kill you"

And she meant it, honestly she did.

Elena's eyes shone with hurt, "This isn't my fault" Elena said, looking as if she truly believed that was true.

Rebekah wasn't sure how Elena could think this wasn't her fault. Elena had been the one to refuse peace between their families. Elena and Bonnie had been the one to steal and open their mothers coffin. Elena had been the one to allow mother to cast the linking spell.

Where in all that does Elena get off as the victim?

She doesn't.

This is completely Elena's fault and Rebekah knew that. Even if Elena continued to deny the fact.

"I wanted to get rid of Klaus" Elena insisted, "At some point; so did you"

"Do you think I want to spend what could quite possibly be the last moments of my life with you..." Rebekah hissed angrily at Elena. "Of course not. But for some reason everyone wants to bend over backwards to save your life - which makes you, the prefect hostage"

Rebekah took a calming breath.

"It's incredibly annoying" she remarked idly in an effort to control her emotions from showing. "So why don't you just sit down and shut up before I mess this all up by ripping your head off"

Elena stumbled away with wide tearful eyes.

Rebekah huffed and crossed her arms over her chest.

This was quite possibly the last place she wanted to be right now. Rebekah couldn't believe her own mother was trying to kill them. It hurt more than anything had ever hurt before. Rebekah felt stupid now for the way she so easily fell for mother's declarations.

She should have known...

Elijah had.

Elijah hadn't believed that mother would want to reunite the family. Especially not when Nicklaus had killed their mother in spite. Rebekah felt as if she should have seen it before. She should have listened when Elijah asked her opinion on the matter instead of snapping at him. Elijah was likely just as hurt as she is by all this. He wouldn't have wanted this to of happened. Regardless, Elijah had seen mothers return for what it was.

A trap.

A lie.

Rebekah was the only one who had actually been fooled.

So, no, sitting in a cave and babysitting martyr Elena Gilbert was not where Rebekah wanted to be right now. In fact, as images of a certain woman flashed in Rebekah's mind - she was surprised to realise where she wanted to be wasn't a place, as much as it was a person.

Jacqueline.

Rebekah pursed her lips in thought.

She wasn't sure what it was about the witch, but Rebekah found most of her time was spent with Jacqueline. Then in the time where Rebekah was left to her own devices, the witch was constantly on her mind. That had never happened before and Rebekah didn't quite know what to think.

Though it didn't matter much now.

Rebekah wanted desperately to live to see another day. If she does - Rebekah knew she would be paying her closest friend a visit.

Rebekah's phone rang.

As if knowing she was being thought about, Jacqueline's name flashed across Rebekah's phone. Rebekah smiled slightly and cast Elena a look before moving away to answer the call. "Hello" Rebekah smiled as she answered

"Hey, Beka" Jacqueline greeted through the phone.

Rebekah couldn't help the smile on her face whenever she spoke with Jacqueline. It was a natural reaction to the woman. A reaction that Rebekah chose not to think too deeply about.

"I was calling to see how I can help" Jacqueline said with a sigh. "Esther needs to be stopped"

Rebekah was a little surprised.

She had assumed that even though Jacqueline was her friend, that Jacqueline might secretly agree with mother. Rebekah had heard many witches rants about vampires being against nature. Witches jobs were to protect and serve nature after all.

Rebekah smiled sadly, "If you truly want to help- Elijah will have a plan" she said truthfully.

"Are you okay, Beka?" Jacqueline asked quietly, "I know it's been a long time since you last saw Esther but still..." Jacqueline trailed off uncertainly

Rebekah was touched at the other woman's genuine care. However, this was not the time for the conversation. "I-" Rebekah began and cast a look to where Elena should have been sitting. "Oh no!"

"Rebekah?!" Jacqueline sounded worried

Rebekah sighed, "I have a small situation I need to attend to at the moment, Jackie. Would it be alright if I came to see you after this is all over?" She bit her lip waiting for the response.

"I'd like that" Jacqueline agreed easily

"Great. I've got to go now. Bye" Rebekah hastily hung up the phone. She used her advanced abilities to listen for movement. Rolling her eyes she sped off in the direction she could hear Elena running in.

She couldn't believe she had let herself get that distracted!

Though Rebekah supposed she always paid attention to Jacqueline, it was impossible not to.

"Boo" Rebekah said as she came up directly behind Elena.

Elena threw her head back into Rebekah's nose. Rebekah was shocked and froze for a second. Elena fell forward and scrambled away. Rebekah felt her nose repairing but she was still a little shocked.

"You little bitch" Rebekah finally uttered and lunged for Elena.

She didn't care if Damon needed Elena's life as motivation or not anymore. Rebekah was going to kill Elena Gilbert once and for all. Nik would forgive her and Jacqueline would be better off without Elena. Rebekah glared and moved forward to grab Elena.

A barrier stopped her.

An invisible barrier that Elena had gotten on the other side of. Rebekah was once again shocked at the situation. "What is this?" She glared

Elena stood up looking smug.

"Sorry" Elena mocked, "No vampires allowed"

Rebekah grit her teeth.

She stared Elena down but figured that as long as Elena didn't go anywhere, this would technically be fine. As much as Rebekah hated it - Elena had a lot of people willing to die for her. Rebekah doubted the Salvatore brothers would fail when Elena's life is on the line. Not to mention Elijah always had good plans for things.

She tired to keep that in mind.

Rebekah sighed and slunk back into the darkness of the tunnel. She knew Elena wouldn't run and risk leaving the only bit of safety. Rebekah was glad she had come prepared now, as she sped up to her car and grabbed a bottle of gasoline.

Things were going to get interesting...

Rebekah sped back through the tunnels and found Elena shining a flashlight.

Rebekah smirked, "Elena" she sung knowing the doppelgänger couldn't see anything, even with the flashlight. Rebekah was rewarded with the sight of Elena yelping and stumbling back in fear and surprise.

She rolled her eyes.

Rebekah moved into the light and set down the can of gasoline. "Let's pick things up where we left off?"

Elena narrowed her eyes as she tried to appear brave.

Rebekah picked up the gasoline can and splashed it directly on Elena. The doppelgänger spluttered angrily but Rebekah only continued splashing gasoline into the cave. Rebekah knew she wouldn't likely set Elena on fire, but Elena didn't know that...

"What are you doing?!" Elena gasped

Rebekah shrugged, "I thought I'd shake things up a bit" she said simply

"Are you insane!" Elena screeched

"I prefer spontaneous" Rebekah retorted with a confident smirk. "Now here's what gonna happen..." Rebekah began as she pulled out a box of matches. "Your going to come outside"

Elena stepped backwards, refusing.

Rebekah nodded and threw a lit match off to Elena's right. She watched as the gasoline caught fire and forced Elena to back away. Rebekah threw the next match to Elena's left, trapping the doppelgänger in the middle of the fires.

"Come outside or stay in there and burn" Rebekah smiled through her annoyance.

Martyr much.

Rebekah might want to kill Elena but she had told the doppelgänger this was a hostage situation. They all knew that those Salvatores would do anything to save their precious Elena. Rebekah had known going into this that it wasn't likely she would actually get to kill Elena.

Did Elena have that little faith in her boyfriends?

Really, all that had needed to happen was for Elena to sit still and shut up.

This hadn't needed to happen but apparently Elena had trouble following simple instructions. Rebekah was getting more and more annoyed the longer this goes on. Though she didn't mind scaring Elena - it wasn't as fun when the bitch gets to walk away unharmed in the end.

That didn't mean Rebekah couldn't taunt Elena in the meantime though.

Right?

"The next match is landing on you" Rebekah threatened before faking curiosity as she asked, "So? How does it feel to know that these may be your last moments?"

Elena scoffed, "I don't know. You tell me. You're the one who's mother is trying to kill her"

Rebekah grit her teeth, "You should be very careful what you say to me" she warned dangerously. That particular wound was still very much fresh...

Elena tilted her head, "Your still wearing her necklace" Elena observed.

What?

Rebekah looked down at her neck and sure enough, her mother's necklace hung there, as it always had. Rebekah had forgotten she still had it on. She'd been wearing it for a 1000 years now that it just felt normal to have it on.

But now it hurt to see it.

The necklace Rebekah had worn in mourning of her mother now was a reminder of betrayal.

"Do you want it?" Rebekah retorted harshly as she looked at Elena. "Is that your last request? Here-" Rebekah ripped it off her neck and threw it at Elena's feet. "It's all yours"

Rebekah didn't want it anyway.

In fact, Rebekah didn't want anything to do with her mother anymore.

"She's not doing this because she hates you, Rebekah" Elena said as if she actually knew anything about Esther. Elena sighed, "She told me that she just doesn't have another choice"

Bullshit.

Rebekah scoffed, "Spare me your pity, Elena. We're not friends"

No matter what mother says her motives are, Rebekah knew the truth. Mother was doing this out of hate for what she created - hate for vampires, hate for her children. There was no other reason for it and Rebekah knew that.

So did Elena.

But announcing the truth wasn't likely to win Elena any favours.

Rebekah had spent 1000 years being called an abomination to nature, a curse to the balance. She wasn't fool enough to think that now mother wasn't stricken with grief, that she didn't think those things too. However, Rebekah found herself hating her mother more now because she had seen witches like Jacqueline were capable of accepting vampirism.

Why couldn't mother do the same?

Rebekah knew it was because her mother didn't want to. Mother didn't love them anymore... she hates them.

Nothing can change that now.

"You won't do this" Elena said continuing to test the boundaries.

Rebekah rolled her eyes, "Whys that?" She asked sarcastically

"Because there's still a chance you could be here tomorrow" Elena said confidently. "And if that's the case, and you kill me now...you'll have used up all your revenge. Wasted it. Isn't that at what you want? Revenge. Cause I pretended to like you then I stabbed you in the back. That's why you slept with Damon, isn't it?"

Elena looked smug, as if she had worked Rebekah out.

Rebekah smiled a little as she listened to Elena try to get under her skin. Elena may think she's got it all figured out, but she's wrong. Sure, Rebekah had been hurt by Elena stabbing her in the back but that wasn't why she slept with Damon.

Damon meant nothing.

At least Damon means nothing to Rebekah. However, Elena seems awfully hung up on the fact.

"The tough act doesn't suit you" Rebekah said simply

Elena deflated.

"Your wrong by the way" Rebekah said now that it was her turn to get under Elena's skin. "I've lived too long to be this hurt over someone pretending to like me, Elena. Stabbing me in the back let me know I could never trust you - but I hate you because I see what you really are" Rebekah spoke condescendingly as she masked her true feelings on the issue of that betrayal.

Things still hurt her - no matter how old she gets.

Elena didn't need to know that though.

"I don't need to get back at you, I don't need revenge" Rebekah chided mockingly. "You, Elena Gilbert, are nothing of importance. Your an attention seeking child who pretends she can keep up with vampires"

Elena turned away in denial of the words Rebekah knew were true.

Deep down Elena knew it too.

"I don't care about Damon. I didn't sleep with him to get back at you" Rebekah smirked

Elena frowned, "Then why would you go near him?" She challenged

Rebekah chuckled, "Cause he wanted me near him" she smirked smugly at Elena's hurt face. "In fact... it wasn't just me he wanted near him"

"What?" Elena asked, hurt laced her tone as she tried to figure out the cryptic comment.

Rebekah refused to back down but she instantly regretted the comment. She shouldn't have said that, and to Elena of all people. Jacqueline already has enough trouble with Elena and she didn't more. Rebekah turned away and left the doppelgänger, refusing to say more on her own mistake.

She really hoped Jacqueline wouldn't be mad.

Rebekah sat down away from Elena in silence. She wanted to go home already and pretend today never happened.

She wanted to see Jacqueline too.

Rebekah sighed.

There was silence in the cave until Rebekah's phone rang. Rebekah answered when she saw Elijahs name on the screen. "Hello?" Rebekah answered, "Are we safe?"

"Indeed sister" Elijah signed, "Mother is dead. We are safe but we are still linked together. Jacqueline is going to work on undoing it for us tomorrow"

Rebekah let out a breath of relief.

"Send Elena on her way unharmed" Elijah said, "Will you be returning home soon? I believe Kol has gone for drinks to celebrate"

Rebekah hummed, "I'm not sure. I'll let you know" she said vaguely

Rebekah hung up the phone and trudged back over to the cave Elena was sitting in. "You can come out now" Rebekah stated dryly, "Seems your boyfriends have come through again"

"How did they do that?" Elena asked

Rebekah smirked, "They either killed Bonnie or Bonnies mother - I haven't been briefed on which one is dead yet"

Elena gasped in horror

Rebekah shrugged carelessly, "In any case, you are free to go" she said and with that, she walked away and out of the tunnels. Rebekah debated going home and seeing her family, but there was one person she wanted to see first.

Jacqueline.

Jacqueline hadn't been too surprised when Rebekah showed up at her door an hour ago. She had been thinking about the Rebekah all day, wondering how Rebekah was coping. It had been a horrible thing that happened today. As it turned out, they were both in need of a little comfort.

At least they now had someone who could comfort them.

Jacqueline hadn't had that for most of her life. She had relieved to say it truly made a difference.

Jacqueline had shared everything that happened on her end today. In return Rebekah had admitted her own part in it all. Jacqueline hadn't been too happy about Rebekah kidnapping Elena but she couldn't deny the fact she understood it.

Elena had brought it on herself.

Jacqueline couldn't fault Rebekah for her actions today. Not when Rebekah was protecting her family. Jacqueline would have done the same thing. Sighing she looked at Rebekah again. They were both sat on Jacqueline's bed talking. Neither had said anything in a few minutes though... they were each stuck in their own heads.

It had been a crazy day.

Rebekah sighed and Jacqueline looked over at the blonde. She looked at Rebekah then, really looked at her. Rebekah was a beautiful woman, even when she looked a little sad. Jacqueline knew she was staring but she couldn't look away. It was as if her eyes needed to take in every detail of the important woman she almost lost today.

Jacqueline wasn't really sure what she was doing.

She was supposed to be comforting Rebekah, had been trying to at least, and she hadn't noticed how close they had gotten. It was almost as if they inched closer with every emotional word they had shared.

This wasn't supposed to happen...

But as Jacqueline looked at Rebekah again, her hesitant thoughts faded. Instead she noticed the twinkle in the blondes blue eyes and the way Rebekah's lips were down turned. Reaching up Jacqueline tucked a loose strand of blonde hair behind Rebekah's ear. Jacqueline's hand brushing softly against Rebekah's cheek made the skin prickled with a feeling she couldn't explain.

Rebekah met Jacqueline's eyes with a look of shared vulnerability.

Jacqueline wasn't sure what she was doing... was positive that she wasn't thinking clearly. That just didn't seem to matter in the moment though. Not when Rebekah lent into Jacqueline's touch. Jacqueline watched her hand move from Rebekah's cheek, downwards towards her neck.

She watched her hand as if were someone else's.

Jacqueline met Rebekah's eyes again and slowly leaned closer - eliminating the small distance that had been between them. She pressed her lips softly against Rebekah's. Experimentally, hesitantly, and waited to see if the kiss would be reciprocated.

Jacqueline barely had to wait.

Rebekah's lips moved against Jacqueline's almost instantly.

Jacqueline only leaned closer to Rebekah when she felt the blondes hand on her jaw. Jacqueline allowed Rebekah to angle her face to the side more, the kiss deepening as a result. Jacqueline's tongue slipped across Rebekah's as Rebekah responded in kind. Rebekah pushed herself against Jacqueline with enough pressure to make her acutely aware of the heat grow between them.

Jacqueline was unashamed to admit she was in bliss.

So much so that Jacqueline had forgotten breathing was a requirement. However the burn in her lungs served as reminder enough. Jacqueline pulled away and panted as subtly as possible.

Kisses had never felt like that before!

Jacqueline looked up again and met Rebekah's eyes. They were both pressed up against each other, hands tangled in the others hair or cupping the others cheek. One of Jacqueline's hands had even lowered to firmly hold onto Rebekah's hip.

Jacqueline blinked in surprise and shock.

What the hell ?

Jacqueline stared at Rebekah for a few seconds; trying to fully comprehend what had just happened. Rebekah seemed to be having the same reaction. When they're eyes met once again they both quickly pulled away. Jacqueline straightened her shoulders and put on her best neutral face - she needed to get her composure again.

She figured even faking composure was better than floundering... right?

Jacqueline cleared her throat, "Rebekah, I-" she started to say for lack of knowing what else to do.

Rebekah's scrambled to stand up and move towards the door. "I, uh, I think it's best that I return home" Rebekah said quickly

"Yeah..." Jacqueline nodded easily in agreement, though she lacked confidence in the words she was saying.

She didn't want Rebekah to leave.

"Yeah" Rebekah nodded and sped out the door faster than Jacqueline's eyes could follow. Jacqueline couldn't explain the way her heart sunk at Rebekah's scramble to leave. Then again, she couldn't even explain what had just happened between them either!

Cause she didn't know what any of this meant!

Jacqueline had never before been attracted to a woman. She had never found herself looking at another female the way she does Rebekah. It had always been men for Jacqueline... it still is.

But then what was that with Rebekah?
