QUARANTATRE
Jacqueline wasn't sure what to expect as she accompanied Elijah to look for Klaus. Something was going on in this town and Elijah had been stonewalled at every turn. Klaus had made an odd disappearance since turning Tyler. Elijah was apparently hoping that Jacqueline would be able to help locate Klaus.
Considering Jacqueline was the only one of them who had been in New Orleans within the past 300 years - she knew it's current happening's best.
At least she thought she did.
Jacqueline felt it in her gut that something was seriously wrong here in New Orleans. Magic wasn't thrumming in the air as it usually did and it set her on edge. Her own instincts warned her of using magic openly. Jacqueline was all the more wary as she took precautions to best conceal her powers once again.
It put her in a particularly bad mood.
Of course that didn't stop her form agreeing to help Elijah. In fact, it only made her all the more determined to figure out what the hell was going on in New Orleans.
"So, who did your contacts say wanted to speak with you?" Jacqueline asked as they arrived in the French Quatre.
Elijah sighed, "I believe the a witch of the name; Jane-Anna Deveraux" he said casting her a glance when she pulled out her phone. "What are you doing?" Elijah asked
"I'm calling her" Jacqueline said
"You know this woman?" Elijah questioned
Jacqueline shrugged, "Briefly. I'm most familiar with her sister who I've communicated with a few times in the past year or so. Do you remember what I told you about Davina?"
Elijah nodded, "The ritual her coven tried to preform without her consent" he confirmed
Jacqueline hummed in agreement, "Jane-Anne is the mother of one of the girls we didn't get there in time to save. Jane-Anne's sister, Sophie, was the one who drew attention to the entire ritual"
Jacqueline rang the number but it went straight to voicemail.
"You have reached Jane-Anne, I'm not able to come to the phone right now. Please leave a message"
Jacqueline frowned, "Huh. Think she's ignoring me?"
Elijah chuckled fondly before shaking his head, "Let's see shall we? Where would we find the woman"
"On the witches side of the French Quarter" Jacqueline stated knowing how the woman had stopped working in grief after her daughters death. Jacqueline sighed and led Elijah through the street of the French Quarter as they headed that way. She hoped they would find Jane-Anne soon because she didn't want one of the vampires who could recognise her, to see her with Elijah.
Marcel didn't need to know of that connection yet.
Not if she could use it to her advantage.
Jacqueline slowed as she spotted a crowd up ahead. Her advanced vampire senses allowed her to easy smell the blood and hear the tears of the people surrounding the scene. There were candles being held by everyone and the aura of magic surrounded them.
Witches.
"Oh my" Elijah said gravely as he noticed the same things.
"That's Jane-Anne" Jacqueline announced as they both paused a few feet away from the mourning group. She shook her head sadly at what had happened.
"Killed in public for anyone to find" Elijah looked appalled at the scene.
"Only people who come around here are witches" Jacqueline told him as she glanced up at Elijah. "That was an execution" she added certainly
Elijah sighed.
"Sabine!" Jacqueline called to a familiar witch who was approaching the scene. The woman was one of Jane-Anne's friends. A friendly enough person to provide them with a gage of the situation.
Sabine looked surprised to see her here but walked over nonetheless. "Jacqueline" Sabine nodded but her eyes quickly landed on Elijah. "Elijah" Sabine greeted
"You know my name?" Elijah's eyes narrowed slightly on Sabine
Sabine smiled, "Original vampire, always wears a suit? You and your family are famous amongst the witches. Especially with your brother back in town"
"Yes" Elijah nodded, "Well, Niklaus is here because a witch was conspiring against him"
"Let me guess" Sabine smiled sadly, "It was Jane-Anne?"
Jacqueline gave a small nod of agreement to the question as Sabine looked between them questioningly. "Do you know what's going on here, Sabine? Something bad is happening in New Orleans. I can feel it in the air"
Sabine sighed, "Sophie will want to talk to you. Sophie has come to take her body, her spirit can't rest until it's been properly interred in the cemetery" Sabine explained as they all glanced over at the sad scene.
"Please tell me that my brother had nothing to do with this" Elijah asked looking extremely serious as he regarded the highest sign of disrespect that had occurred here today.
Jacqueline pursed her lips at the question as she waited to her the Sabine's answer. She wasn't sure what to make of all this just yet. It couldn't be a coincidence that the very woman plotting against Klaus was killed publicly tonight. However, that didn't mean that it was at Klaus's hand or he likely would have briefed at the very least, Elijah, on the situation. Cause for Klaus to make such a public statement would mean the threat Jane-Anne had posed was very serious.
Jacqueline doubted Jane-Anne was up to something too bad.
Jane-Anne wasn't the type. This woman had been a mom first and foremost, and witch second. Unless it had something to do with resurrecting her daughter Jacqueline doubted Jane-Anne was plotting anything.
Least of all something against Klaus.
"No. Jane-Anne died because she got caught doing magic" Sabine revealed
Jacqueline's head whipped up at that, "Caught doing magic?!" she echoed in utter disgust at the phrasing and it's implications.
Caught!
Caught - as it had been restricted in the first place.
Elijah looked like he was thinking the same thing as he turned back to Sabine. "Excuse me. What exactly do you mean she got 'caught' doing magic?" Elijah asked
A piercing whistle startled Sabine.
Sabine backed away nervously, "You want to know who killed Jane-Anne? You're about to get you first glimpse of Marcel in action"
Marcel?!
Jacqueline felt anger and disgust boil as she realised this little war Davina had mentioned was more than just that. This was no small dispute... at least not anymore.
Elijah's lips pursed, "The vampire Marcel?"
Sabine nodded quickly, "Things have changed since your family left" she rushed out as she grabbed Elijah's arm. "Please. You need to hide. If the vampires find out a witch lured you here then all my people will be slaughtered. Go!"
"Go, Elijah" Jacqueline nodded to a balcony as vampires started crowding the street and Jane-Anne's body.
"Are you going to be alright here?" Elijah asked looking to them both
Jacqueline gave a nod.
She turned back to the street now filling with vampires and watched beside Sabine as Marcel and his men appeared. The Vampires crowded the small group of witches holding candles to their dead coven member. Jacqueline could hardly believe what she was seeing but she knew she had to do something about it. Clearly what was happening is bigger than anything they had thought it would be.
Jacqueline couldn't turn away from it now she had seen it.
Not when helpless people were being slaughtered in the streets because they're witches. Not when the very man doing this was a guardian for a witch that Jacqueline cares very much about. After this she would be paying a visit to Davina to check on the girl. Hopefully Jacqueline would be able to get Davina away from Marcel soon.
It clearly wasn't safe.
"Well, well, well... what do we have here?" Marcel drew out as he looked at the witches. A small chuckle coming from the vampire as his cronies cheered him on. "I got to tell you, Soph. This street corner is not proving the luckiest spot for your family tonight"
Jacqueline had to make an effort to conceal her anger, knowing she had to play this cool.
If she wanted to stop this then she needed to be viewed as the friend she once was to Marcel. Cause if he didn't think of her as a friend then he thought of her as an enemy.
She couldn't risk being an enemy yet.
"Not half an hour ago, we had to teach your sister a little lesson" Marcel smirked as he faced Sophie.
Sophie sighed, "We're putting her to rest Marcel. Leave us alone"
"I never said you could move the body" Marcel smirked cockily, "Matter of fact, I left her here for a reason; to send a message. If anybody is thinking of joining some kind of rebellion, my rules state that witches can't perform any kind of magic in the Quarter. Yet a little birdie informed me that Jane-Anne was cooking up something magically delicious"
Jacqueline grit her teeth as she listened to him.
Sabine shook her head and Jacqueline squeezed the woman's hand in comfort.
"Oh yeah!" Marcel suddenly grinned at Sophie. "While I have you. Quick Q and A - My old friend, The Hybrid Klaus, he just happened to show up out of the blue looking for, of all people... Jane-Anne! Any idea why?"
"I don't know" Sophie shrugged, "Witches don't get involved in vampire business"
"Mhmn that would be pretty stupid, that's for sure" Marcel circled Sophie as he spoke. "Tell you what. Go back to the restaurant, cook up some of that famous Gumbo and keep those tourists happy"
Jacqueline looked up at Elijah and gave him a nod before she strode forward and met Marcel's eyes.
Marcel grinned, "Look who we have here!"
Jacqueline returned the grin as she continued through the crowd of vampires and witches that parted in her wake. She gave Marcel a bashful smirk and ignored the bile in her throat as she made a regretful sign of disrespect - she stepped right over Jane-Anne's body without a second thought.
The vampires hollered in approval.
Sophie winced but remained silent.
Marcel's grin grew wider in approval as he held his arms open to her for a welcoming hug. "Jacqueline. It's good to see you" he kissed her cheek as she pulled away.
"Nothing like a good show and some company to make a girl feel welcome" Jacqueline chuckled and nodded her agreement as she stepped away from him. "It was a pity. I was actually here out of the goodness of my heart" she mocked
Marcel snorted, "Now, love. You don't do much out of the goodness of your heart"
Jacqueline swatted his hand away playfully, "I thought I might have been able to see about some resurrection spells for the other girls we didn't save. You never mentioned that you had magic on lock and key" she rolled her eyes at him, purposefully showing no disapproval at the disgusting rule.
Marcel put a hand on the small of her back and chuckled. His affection towards her showing the others that while she was a witch, she was not in the same position as them.
It was exactly what she intended.
Marcel looked over at one of his men, "Grab the body" he instructed
"No! Stop, stop, stop!" Sophie yelled, "Marcel-"
Marcel shook his head, "I'm gonna hold onto your sisters body. In case you remember why Klaus is here" he shrugged carelessly
"Marcel!" Sophie pleaded, "Marcel. Her body won't be at peace!"
Jacqueline looked up and met Elijah's eyes as Marcel began to steer her away from the crowd with him. She gave a small nod to which Elijah returned as they both set off on their new mission to figure out what was going on here. Jacqueline went willingly with Marcel as he led her on a walk of the night streets.
"So what exactly were you doing here tonight?" Marcel asked once they were separate from his men.
Jacqueline sighed, "Every time I spoke to Davina I felt an annoying pang of guilt about not getting there in time for the other girls" she announced
Marcel nodded, "I get that. None of those kids deserved to die" he agreed sounding genuine in his dislike of anyone who abused helpless kids like the witches had done.
"Jane-Anne found a way to reach out to me since I was the one who provided the information on The Harvest in the first place. She wanted to know if there was a way for Monique to be brought back" Jacqueline explained knowing that there was no excuse where she looked innocent that would be believable. "Davina's been begging me to come here and I figured I'd take a meeting with Jane-Anne while I was at it"
"Did you actually meet with her?" Marcel questioned as he glanced at her again
Jacqueline chuckled, "It was why I was here tonight. Got there just in time to see your big show" she said
Marcel shrugged, "These witches are done abusing their power to kill vampires and kids. If they took on an opinion more like you, then maybe we wouldn't be here"
"I live in the shades of Grey" Jacqueline shrugged not particularly liking the way he twisted her words into his favour like that.
Though she didn't dare comment.
"You know what she would have wanted Klaus for?" he asked
Jacqueline gave him a questioning look, "You mean The Hybrid is here looking for Jane-Anne?"
Marcel sighed when he realised she was saying she didn't know anything about it. He nodded, "Yeah. Stay away from him while you're here. He's bad news" Marcel advised
Jacqueline gave him a sweet smile, "You gonna protect me from the big bad Hybrid?"
Marcel laughed and nodded, "Like a true night in shining armour, of course"
"Good" Jacqueline smirked as she moved away from him and gave a nod. "Then I'm safe" she smiled before turning on her heels and walking away from him. Jacqueline heard him laughing as she went. "I'll see you tomorrow" she threw over her shoulder as she walked away from him.
Jacqueline kept walking until she knew he hadn't followed.
She reached out with her magic and knew she was alone once again.
Jacqueline pulled out her phone and read the message Elijah had sent informing her to meet him and Sophie at the cemetery. She sighed but took the short walk there to clear her head. Jacqueline had hated every second of laughing and smiling at Marcel but she knew the role she had to play at that moment. Jacqueline was realising she might have to do some more bad things if it means making things right.
And she would.
Jacqueline understood killing sometimes, had done it herself when needed. Whether to protect herself or loved ones. However segregating witches and hunting them down for using their natural gifts was wrong.
It was very wrong.
BloodWitches had been hunted in a similar fashion for years.
Jacqueline didn't want to see that happen in New Orleans. The reason she loved the place so much was because of how free it was about magic and the supernatural.
It wasn't that right now though...
Jacqueline shook her head as she walked into the cemetery and spotted Elijah and Sophie talking. Seeing the woman made her feel even worse for what she had done before.
"Jacqueline" Sophie greeted
"Sophie. I'm sorry for what I did back there..." Jacqueline said apologetically as she cleared her throat in discomfort. It wasn't often that Jacqueline apologised for anything, but this was certainly one of those times. However it didn't make her any more comfortable with giving the apology.
Sophie nodded, "I noticed you before in the crowd. I saw the disgust on your face... when you started talking to Marcel about Jane-Anne calling you, I knew it was just a cover. I hate Whats happening but if you being in Marcels favour helps stop it...""
Jacqueline nodded, "What is going on here Sophie?" she asked
"What did your sister want with Niklaus?" Elijah demanded
"Isn't it obvious. We have a vampire problem and we need help. Marcel has an army backing him. The witches have been trying to fight back - clearly we haven't had any luck" Sophie explained, "Until my sister met a girl. A werewolf passing through the Quarter from a small town in Virginia. She had a special connection to your brother"
"What kind of connection?" Elijah asked as he kept his perfectly diplomatic composure
Sophie smiled, "Apparently they spent some time together. One thing led to another... and now this special werewolf girl is pregnant and Klaus is the father"
Elijah only faltered for a brief second before denying it, "It's impossible" he said
Was it?
Jacqueline had heard of crazier things happening...
"Actually, Elijah" Jacqueline cut in as she thought about it all. "If he slept with this girl after he unlocked his werewolf side then it's entirely possible"
"How so?" Elijah asked, looking to her for answers he knew he would be able to trust. "He's a vampire"
"He's also a werewolf" she pointed out with a shrug of her shoulders. "And werewolves can have babies"
Sophie nodded in agreement before turning to look over her shoulder. "Bring her out!" Sophie yelled to someone else
The gates squeaked open and two witches escorted a woman out to greet them. The woman barely looked pregnant in her dirty white shirt and jacket but Jacqueline could hear the heartbeat from her stomach. The woman was relatively tall, dark brown hair and tan skin. Though it was the unimpressed and confused look on her face that caught Jacqueline's attention the most.
Jacqueline exchanged a look with Elijah.
This was really happening...
"Who the hell are you two?" the woman asked
Jacqueline's lips quirked up into a brief smile at the snappish attitude. She thought she might like this woman already.
"Give us a moment, please" Elijah dismissed Sophie and the witches
Sophie nodded and Jacqueline followed Elijah and the pregnant woman back into the crypt. The crypt was lit with candles and had a few blankets thrown around. It was neat and warm but it wasn't really a place for a pregnant woman to be staying.
"I'm Jacqueline" Jacqueline announced as she scrutinised the woman in front of her carefully. "I'd like to just do a small paternity test, if you'll let me?"
"I'm Haley" the woman sighed, "And at least you asked"
Jacqueline didn't comment as she placed a hand over the woman's stomach. Her magic searchingly reached out for the unborn child in the womb. Images flashed behind Jacqueline's eyes of the babies conception - which she cringed at seeing. However it confirmed the child really is parented by Klaus Mikaelson.
Elijah raised a brow silently
Jacqueline nodded her head quickly in confirmation.
"So how have they been holding you here against your will?" Elijah asked kindly enough as he directed the question at Hayley.
"They lured me out to the Bayou and grabbed me. Then they did all these weird, witchy tests. Not that I understand how this could happen. I mean, vampires are dead - they can't have children!" Hayley still looked confused about everything.
Clearly the witches hadn't explained anything.
"Perhaps it might explain how this is possible if you knew more of my brothers history?" Elijah posed before reaching out a hand to lay on the Hayley's temple. "Here. If I may... I'd like to show you"
"Wait what?" Hayley jerked away
"If you open your mind to me I can show you" Elijah sat on the bed beside Hayley and smiled charmingly. He slowly reached out to place his hands on Hayley's temples and projected the memories into her mind as he continued to speak.
That took concentration!
Jacqueline nodded in approval knowing not even she could project images and talk at the same time.
Jacqueline sat patiently as she listened to the story she already knew. Esther was a hypocritical bitch, Mikael was the ultimate dick and an abusive father. Hendrik's death was the reason Esther created vampirism that later revealed Niklaus was born of an affair Esther had with a werewolf. Then Esther and Mikael cursed Klaus's wolf side away as punishment for Esthers actions. Unsurprisingly Klaus killed Esther for it.
Mikael hunted Klaus and his siblings down trying to kill them.
After Klaus broke the curse, the scooby gang tried to get Mikael to kill Klaus. Though Klaus ended up killing his father instead. Then Klaus let Elijah undagger Rebekah and Kol. Stefan stole the lasting coffins and undaggered Finn before Bonnie and Elena revived Esther again.
However, Jacqueline knew Elijah wouldn't appreciate her running commentary on the events. Which was why she kept them to herself the entire time.
"This could be good for Niklaus" Elijah ventured as he concluded his story of the past. "He has calmed down, he's not as angry, since he killed father and re-gained his family. However, I do not know if he is truly happy"
Jacqueline sighed, "I think he can do this, Elijah, be a father"
Elijah tilted his head as he considered her words before eventually nodding in agreement with them. "I do agree. He might have to change some of his ways - but with the new additions to our family I have seen that begin to happen already"
Jacqueline smiled a little at that.
"I'm glad to hear you say that" Sophie said as she walked back into the crypt. "Cause we need your help"
Elijah faced Sophie looking as diplomatic as ever. "What precisely is it that you want and what does it have to do with this young woman?" he demanded
"We want to run Marcel and his vampires out of town. Klaus is the key - everything Marcel knows about being a vampire, he learned from Klaus. Marcel trusts him, looks up to him... he won't see the betrayal coming." Sophie explained
"Yes. Well, as I'm sure you're aware my brother doesn't like to be told what to do" Elijah announced with a small amount of amusement.
What an understatement!
"It's why I brought you here" Sophie conceded to Elijah's point with a nod. "Marcel drove werewolves out of town, decades ago. Do you really think he's going to welcome a Hybrid baby to the neighbourhood?"
Threatening a baby?
Jacqueline sighed slightly at what she was hearing but knew Sophie had a valid point. Marcel would certainly not like hearing that Klaus and his child were moving to town.
"Convince Klaus to help us" Sophie said as she looked between Jacqueline and Elijah as if it were simple. "Convince him to kelp us and nobody has to know about the newest member of the family."
"Sounds like blackmail" Jacqueline snarked dryly
Sophie gave an almost apologetic shrug in response, "Like I said. I'm desperate"
Jacqueline couldn't really blame Sophie for being desperate right now though. Cause while Klaus might kill Sophie for this - Marcel seemed to be no better. The witches were helpless and being picked off one by one in their own homes. A risky move like this wasn't so risky when you have absolutely nothing to loose.
"Well, then" Elijah chuckled a little in disbelief, "I have my work cut out for me, Don't I?"
Jacqueline snorted.
Jacqueline stood in the corner of the crypt as she watched Elijah and Sophie explain the situation to Klaus. She had warned them that this wasn't a good idea. Sophie had insisted that she was running the show and knew what she was doing. The only problem with that was Sophie didn't understand the complicated man that Klaus Mikaelson is and that would be her downfall. Elijah has too much hope that Klaus will react the same way he does and seemed to think his word was enough for Klaus.
It wouldn't be.
Not this time
Jacqueline seemed to be the only one who understood that right now. So, she sat back and gave Klaus a rather indifferent shrug when he gave her a questioning look. Jacqueline knew making him feel like she was in on this would only make it worse.
"No" Klaus said immediately
"I said the same thing myself" Elijah agreed still looking quite amazed that this had been possible.
"It's impossible" Klaus scoffed, "This is a lie. You're all lying" he sneered as he looked around the room.
"No-" Elijah began
Klaus didn't let him speak as he continued yelling, "Vampires cannot procreate!"
"But werewolves can" Sophie spoke up, "Magic made you a vampire but you were born a werewolf - the original Hybrid, first of your kind - and this pregnancy if one of natures loophole's"
"You're been with someone else" Klaus snarled at Hayley as he lunged forward. "Admit it!"
"Hey!" Hayley snapped back, "I've spent days held captive in a freaking alligator bayou because they think that I'm carrying some magical, miracle baby! If I had been with someone else don't you think I would have fessed up by now?"
"My sister gave her life to perform the spell that confirmed this pregnancy" Sophie spat out at Klaus. "Because of Jane-Anne's sacrifice the lives of this girl and her baby are now controlled by us. We can keep them safe... or we can kill them"
Wrong move.
Jacqueline knew that just as well as Klaus and Elijah did.
"If you don't help us take down Marcel, so help me, Hayley won't end up living long enough to see her first maternity dress" Sophie threatened
"Wait what?!" Hayley yelled
"Enough of this. If you want marcel dead, he's dead" Elijah intervened quickly. "I'll do it myself"
"No" Sophie said, "No, we can't. Not yet. We have a clear plan that we need to follow. There are rules"
Wrong again.
Jacqueline sighed and shook her head as she watched unsurprised when Klaus continued to react poorly to this situation. She wasn't sure how anyone would react positively to news when told like this. Especially not after spending 1000 years under the impression that you would never have children.
"How dare you command me" Klaus growled, "How dare you threaten me with what you wrongfully perceive to be my weaknesses? This is pathetic! I won't hear anymore of this lie" Klaus stormed over to the exit, ready to leave the crypt.
"Niklaus..." Elijah said sternly
Klaus gave paused and turned angry eyes onto Elijah.
"Listen" Elijah said, flicking his eyes to Hayley's stomach to indicate what he was saying.
Klaus sighed while he turned to Hayley and listened to the strong heart beat coming from her stomach. Too many emotions flickered through Klaus' face to be able pinpoint one of them for long. However, fear and confusion were blatant enough in his eyes for anyone who knew him to see.
There was silence as everyone waited.
Jacqueline knew what would happen though, she knew, but she also planned on changing his mind after he makes his dramatic exit.
Because that was just how Klaus was.
The reason Jacqueline got along with Klaus so well was because they both shared some similar qualities. Jacqueline had become a much more open and relaxed person since Rebekah had come into her life. Their BloodBond forcing her to be more willing to acknowledge and share her feelings. Klaus doesn't have that - he is very much a man who, even though he feels, does not want anyone else to know as much.
To his own detriment Klaus will remain in control of himself and the situation as best he can.
Jacqueline would have done the same.
These people seemed to think Klaus was going to melt at the sudden and abrupt announcement of his child. They seemed to think that them saying it's true would be enough for him. Especially when those words come along with threats and an attempt to blackmail and control his actions.
It just won't work.
Klaus looked Elijah and then Sophie dead in the eyes before he smiled and said, "Kill her and the baby. What do I care?" Klaus shrugged carelessly before walking out of the room.
Leaving behind various shocked and horrified faces.
"Screw this! I'm out of here!" Hayley tried to make a quick escape but was grabbed by a few witches.
Jacqueline stepped forward and looked at Elijah before she turned back to Sophie. "No one touches Hayley" Jacqueline commanded. "It'll be fixed"
Sophie gave a small nod.
Jacqueline turned to Elijah and smiled confidently at him. "I've got this one, Elijah. Trust me?"
Elijah hesitated before nodding in agreement.
Jacqueline quickly flashed out of the crypt using her new vampire speed. She caught up with an angry Klaus easily. Jacqueline didn't say anything as she fell into step with him. There wasn't anything she could say while he was this angry and she knew well enough than to try.
Klaus glared at her then, "If you've come to-"
"To buy you a drink?" Jacqueline grinned, "After the day we've had? I think we could both use one... or a few" she corrected with a shrug
Klaus stared at her in surprised. His eyes narrowing suspiciously as he searched her face for a lie or a trap.
Jacqueline rolled her eyes, "You're buying then"
He scoffed though his lips quirked up briefly in amusement before he stomped off towards the local bar. Jacqueline chuckled and followed after Klaus as she silently fell back into step with him. Neither of them spoke but they never really had to talk in order to do some drinking. Jacqueline didn't question him when he walked into the bar and compelled them two bottles of top shelf bourbon before taking the bottles and walking right back out the door.
Jacqueline shrugged.
"So who is Hayley?" Jacqueline asked as they walked around town drinking in silence.
Klaus shrugged, "Nobody. Just some little wolf who appeared in Mystic Falls with Katherine"
"Right" Jacqueline nodded as they continued on walking and drinking. She took a sip straight from the bottle as they approached the docs. "It's a shame really..." she drew out after a few minutes of silence
Klaus looked at her questioningly
Jacqueline looked away as she spoke, "You get to have that-" she waved a hand at him vaguely. "I mean, me and Rebekah, we can't have kids together ... you get a second chance. After all this time things are finally clicking into place for you - Mikaels' dead, your family are at your side better and stronger than ever, you're in the city you built again and you've met me" she flashed him a smug grin.
Klaus snorted.
"And now you've got a chance to have a child. A mini-Klaus" Jacqueline couldn't deny the fact she was slightly envious about the second chance he was given.
"Did you want children of your own?" Klaus asked, searching her face for an answer she wasn't likely to give.
Jacqueline shrugged, "It doesn't matter anymore. Does it?"
"It was a lie anyway" Klaus dismissed, "I don't have a child. You know that just as well as I do"
"I checked myself, Klaus" Jacqueline said, catching his arm and making him stop to see the seriousness on her face. "No pathetic Ancestral bound witches magic can match mine. I checked and that baby was 100 percent your child" she told him
Klaus shook his head, "Those lies won-"
"I wouldn't do that" Jacqueline snapped at him in offence to the insinuation. "You are my family now! I didn't try to manipulate or blackmail you into anything! I didn't stand here judging you for your reaction to the news! I certainly won't lie to you!" she huffed before turning and walking away from the stunned man.
Jacqueline bristled in annoyance as she went over to the water and sat down on a bench.
She took a long drink of the Bourbon.
"I didn't mean to offend you, love" Klaus sighed as he sat down beside her on the bench.
"No, only imply that I would lie to you about having a child" Jacqueline huffed
Klaus sighed, "How did this even happen?" he asked though she didn't get the impression the question was for her exactly.
"You had sex with Hayley on your couch" Jacqueline laughed as she looked over at him. "I got a flash of it when I did my own tests on Hayley"
Klaus smirked, "What would Rebekah say, love?" he joked
Jacqueline rolled her eyes.
"I haven't thought about having children since my human days - I had briefly wanted to begin a family with Tatia" Klaus admitted though he didn't dare look in her direction as he spoke. "I've embraced life as a Hybrid and vampire. I never gave children a second thought"
"Not even now?" Jacqueline asked without judgement.
Klaus didn't answer.
"I know the witches are trying to manipulate you" Jacqueline ventured as she looked over at him again. "But is it that bad? I mean, weren't you going to take back New Orleans anyway?"
Klaus chuckled, "I probably would have. Especially after discovering Marcel's betrayal" he agreed
"So then what's the issue here? I don't really see the harm in allowing the witches to think they're in control. They're desperate and blinded by reaching their goals - they'll never see the moment you undermine them and take their leverage away" Jacqueline said with a small smirk as she noticed Klaus paying more and more attention. "You get to punish Marcel, get New Orleans back and you get to have a baby"
"You're telling me that this is really my child?" Klaus gave her a serious look
Jacqueline looked him in the eyes and nodded, "I'd never lie about this" she said fiercely. "You might not want me, Klaus, but you're my family. It doesn't matter what you do - as long as you are as loyal to family as I am - I'll never betray you. Not ever" she swore
Cause it was true.
Jacqueline would do absolutely anything for her family. That now included the Mikaelson's whether they realise it or not.
"Why do you think I'm in New Orleans?" She asked with an eye roll. "Family should always stick together. We've all been given a second chance. Yours is here Klaus, you just have to take it"
Klaus sighed.
It wasn't an angry sigh though, more a contemplative one.
"Did I ever tell you what it was like growing up with Miranda and Greyson as parents?" Jacqueline asked but she didn't look at him. Not even when she felt his eyes curiously burning into the side of her head.
"No" Klaus said, "Though I understand it wasn't easy"
"Can I show you?" Jacqueline asked as she looked over at him again, willing to let him understand her better through seeing it for himself. Jacqueline wasn't the best at putting emotions into words. She figured showing him was better than anything she could say.
Klaus looked surprised.
"If you want to, love" Klaus sighed as he nodded
Jacqueline held her hands against his temples, knowing he wasn't able to understand the joy that what he was being given could bring him. Nobody could understand that depth of love until they have it for themselves.
She had to show him.
A/N: I've been considering, since Jacqueline isn't a vampire, if she should have a baby? I was thinking about the spell done on Caroline in Vampire Diaries and figured that maybe Rebekah could carry the baby? Obviously it wouldn't happen for at least another 10 maybe 15 chapters though... but it's an idea I'm thinking about. Any thoughts?
