"It's so beautiful!"
Ashido shrieked so loudly I was sure that the students on the first floor would be able to hear her. She sat on the end of my bed, and started up at the black dress as if she was worshipping it.
"Hatsume really outdid herself, ribbit." Asui croaked.
"It seems like it will fit you perfectly, Miya."
Uraraka smiled at me from across the room. The awkwardness between us had started to wither away slowly. She began waving at me regularly, and she'd join in on any small talk I happened to be a part of.
"I have something that will go with it perfectly." Yaoyorozu said suddenly.
I was half expecting her to discreetly create something with her Quirk that would match my costume. Perhaps a mask, or maybe a cape. I was unexpectedly surprised when she stood, and left the room. She returned several minutes later holding two long, velvety looking knee high boots that looked as if they were brand new.
"Yaoyorozu, I-I can't just-"
"Take them," she handed them to me, "They'll
look great with your costume. I have them in six colors back at home, anyways."
I felt my eyes widen as I looked at her.
"Yaoyorozu's family is like," Ashido paused, " mega rich." she finished with a wink.
Yaoyorozu looked at her with mild annoyance.
"That's not really something I felt the need to brag about, Ashido."
She waved Ashido off as a bead of sweat formed on her forehead.
"Have you tried your costume on, Miya?" Uraraka asked.
"No," I sighed as I ran my hand along the lace of the dress, "I was told to wait."
Ashido looked away from my costume, and fixed her yellow eyes on me.
"Miya," she was practically quivering with excitement," you totally have to try it on!"
"I'm not sure you heard-"
"I won't tell! Cross my heart!"
She made an X shape over her chest, and then held a slender, pink finger out towards me. I tilted my head in confusion.
"What are you doing?"
"It's a promise."
I kept my head tilted as I looked at her.
"With your finger?"
She giggled.
"You've never made a promise with anyone?"
"Not with my finger." I shrugged.
"Here," she grabbed my hand, "I'll show you."
She gently extended the last finger on my hand, and intertwined it with hers.
"There. A perfect promise." Ashido smiled.
I sighed.
"I'll try it on, but nobody says anything to anyone about it."
Ashido clapped her hands together excitedly.
"You've got my word, ribbit."
"I won't say anything." Uraraka winked.
As soon as they turned away I slipped out of my uniform, and into the costume I had secretly been longing to wear since I had laid eyes on it. The material was surprisingly soft against my skin, and didn't hug my body tightly at all.
"You can look now." I announced.
Yaoyorozu gasped loudly as she looked at me.
"Miya, you look beautiful!"
"I officially hate you." Ashido moped.
"You look great, Suzume."
Uraraka held her thumb up in the air.
"Kaminari won't be able to keep his eyes off of you." Asui smiled.
I blushed at the thought of him, and then felt a twang of guilt in my chest.
"What is it, Suzume?"
Yaoyorozu was looking at me curiously.
"Hm? Oh, it's nothing."
I hoped she wasn't able to sense the lingering guilt in the pit of my stomach.
"I'm so hungry." Ashido said as she clutched her stomach.
"Now that you mention it I'm a little hungry too, ribbit."
Asui's tongue peeked out of the corner of her mouth, and I silently wondered if she was going to eat any bugs that were lurking around the room. The thought made me shudder, and I tried to push it out of my mind.
"Let's go get something to eat. Are you coming, Suzume?" Yaoyorozu turned to look at me.
My stomach roared loudly at the thought of food, and I blushed deeply.
"I guess that's a yes." Uraraka said with a wide smile.
I quickly changed out of my costume, and hung it up neatly. The hallway to the elevator was oddly empty except for Mineta who winked at our group as we passed by.
"Hey, it's Jiro!"
My stomach knotted itself unusually tight as Uraraka waved her hands over her head.
"Jiro! Hey! Over here." she called.
I fought the urge to sprint in the opposite direction, and looked anywhere but at her.
"Don't worry about Jiro." Yaoyorozu muttered in my direction while giving me a friendly nudge.
I felt the knot in my stomach tighten as we got closer. Jiro lowered her headphones, and smiled warmly, and then she noticed me. The smile faded from her lips as fast as it had appeared, and she twisted her elongated right earlobe between her fingers.
"We were just heading to Lunch Rush to grab something to eat. Do you want to join us?" Uraraka asked her.
"Oh, uh," Jiro looked over at me, "no thanks."
She smiled, but it was painfully obvious that she was uncomfortable. She bid farewell to the group, and started to walk back towards the dorms.
"Jiro," I called before I could stop myself, "wait up."
What the hell was I doing? What was I going to say? My heart was thumping loudly in my ears, and my hands started shaking. She spun around, and noticed me walking towards her.
"Hm? Oh, it's you." she said in an unenthusiastic tone.
"Yes it's me," I said with false confidence, "I-I was hoping you'd have a minute to talk."
She sighed loudly, and crossed her arms.
"If it's about Kaminari I have nothing to say."
"Oh, no I just-"
"I don't want to sound rude, but I have quite a bit of homework that I need to get done."
She turned to walk away, and then looked back at me.
"Take care of him, okay?"
My heart skidded to a halt in my chest.
"Wha-what?"
"Kaminari. It's pretty easy to see that he likes you. And that you like him too."
My cheeks started to get warm.
"Well I-I'm not sure I-"
She stood next to me, and put her hand on my shoulder.
"My Quirk lets me hear even the most miniscule sounds. I've heard your heartbeat when you're around him. You positively like him. It's okay."
I attempted to swallow the growing lump in my throat.
"I'm angry with him, but I'll get over it. I love him, but I want him to be happy. His happiness faded away with me, but it's immeasurable with you. So, promise me you'll take care of him."
I cleared my throat before I attempted to speak.
"Of course," I whispered, "thank you, Jiro."
She nodded, and smiled happily.
"So, what now?" I asked, looking over at her.
"Hmm. I'm not sure. I guess we could go get something to eat. I'm starving."
"Me too." I smiled.
