I don't know. I feel that I've done something wrong with this chapter. Maybe it's my inner critic talking. What do you guys think?
lovecrazyhedgehog: Ah, makes sense. Crazily enough, it's the opposite for me. I like it more where a character already exists in that world and see how they can adjust to that world's rules. In my GoR (RWBY/Bleach) series, I try to blend RWBY's rules and Bleach's rules together (ex. Aura = Reiastu, Grimm = Hollow), but I don't think I can do the same for OHA because the world of MHA is more grounded compared to the more fantasy elements of RWBY. However, I am going to try have certain aspects of RWBY transferred to Quirks and other things. You'll see later.
zack25king: Yep, I see that Izuku and Ruby are two sides of the same coin. There are other characters like this too, but I won't spoil who! Izuku does have the drive and will, he just needed the oomph to back it up.
616mcu: I have seen some people argue that Izuku should have remained Quirkless because it would make the story more interesting. So, I just needed to point things out in case someone gets disappointed and get hostile…which is a possibility because internet. Both All Might and Izuku were perfect for OfA, as ch. 304 revealed.
Guest-Questioner: You may be right, and you gave valid points. Not only that, but we've also only seen Japan's view of the Quirkless. Who's to say it's different in the UK or North America? If not for how the hero society works, then Izuku may have become a Quirkless hero. I do want to point out that Batman is more of a vigilante. A heroic vigilante, but a vigilante, nonetheless. Now, some pros seem okay with heroic vigilantes like the Crawler and Knucklebuster (i.e., Aizawa and Tensei). I do feel that All Might inadvertently gave a high standard for heroes in the current time because of his amazing feats…ironic since he was Quirkless too!
Superjukes2: Thank you ^^
D3lph0xL0v3r: Thank you! You may be right about that, friend.
Disclaimer: MHA belongs to Horikoshi and RWBY belongs to Monty Oum.
Chapter 05: An Unfortunate Truth
Ruby lay sadly on her bed on her side, staring solemnly at her phone. She wanted to text Jaune, but she didn't feel like talking about it…And she has no doubt where Jaune would side. Not that she blames him. She turns her gaze to the picture of her mother on the wall.
"What would you have done, mom?" she asked the photo. There was a knock at the door. "Come in."
Instead of Tai or Yang or even Uncle Qrow, it was Blake. "Hey, Ruby."
Ruby seats up. "Hey, Blake."
"That's a 180-tone compared to earlier," Blake observed gently.
"…yeah," Ruby muttered, pulling her knees to her chest.
"Any room up there for one more?" Blake asked. Ruby thinks a moment before scooching to the side so there is room and Blake climbs up and sat beside her.
"I'm kinda surprised that you came to check on me instead of dad or Yang."
"I was probably the best option. Your dad is upset with himself for making you unhappy and Yang was gonna go back and forth trying to comfort you and Mr. Xiao Long, but I told her that I'll come talk to you."
Ruby buries her face in her knees. "…Thanks."
"And to be honest, I don't know what to say what has already been said."
"…I know," Ruby said with a heavy heart. "I think I already knew before too."
"Then, why did you encourage an improbable dream?" Blake asked.
"I guess I didn't want to be like the people who doubted me and…I can already tell that Midoriya has his own share of people doing the same to him. I mean, you heard what happened with Jaune. And I didn't want to be that person."
Blake smiled. "It's sweet. The way you talk about him. Midoriya, I mean. You make it seem like he has what it takes to be a hero."
"And he does," Ruby protested. "But…you guys are right. I don't like it, but…" Today's society has no use for Quirkless heroes.
"What are you going to do?" Blake asked.
Ruby raised her head. "…I'll try to convince him to go for the other courses."
"Are you going to call him?"
Ruby shook her head. "I can't. I forgot to ask to exchange numbers. But we are gonna meet again tomorrow, after school. Besides, it's better to talk in person."
"Sounds like a plan. I hope it goes well."
"…me too."
Ruby's anxiety didn't get any better the next day as time ticks to when she has to tell Izuku that he…he can't…It's lunch now and Ruby and Jaune sitting at their usual spot underneath the cherry blossom tree, but the girl seems anywhere, but not here.
"Is…everything okay, Ruby?" Jaune asked.
"Hm?"
"I asked if you were okay. You've hardly touched your food." The rice was nice, fluffy, and sweet – just the way she liked it – the octopus cocktail sausage looked adorable, the cherry tomatoes and strawberries were fresh, and the broccoli…Ruby had lost her appetite.
"…Jaune, am…I a good friend?" Ruby asked.
Jaune sighs. "Ruby, your heart was in the right place. I would know. It's just… I don't know."
"It's not fair. That's what it is." Ruby let a pitiful groan rumble from her throat. "I still don't know what to say to him."
"I wish I could say something uplifting, but I don't think it'll help."
"At this point, I'll take anything. Try me."
"Well, maybe he could get a Quirk in his next life?" Jaune said with an unsure smile. Ruby's unamused glare says it all. "Right. Dumb thing to say…"
"Very." Ruby puts her barely touched bento to the side and lowers her head with a sigh. "What am I gonna do?" She heard footsteps approaching her and Jaune. She didn't need to look up to see who it was.
"What's with the long faces?" Cardin mocked. "Tripped on each other's capes while running from a villain that is your own shadow?" His friends chuckled at his joke.
"Winchester, now's not a good time," Jaune said listlessly.
Cardin smirked. "Come on, Jauney-boy. I'm just looking out for you two. Better that you guys know now than to fail miserably later and realize that you two aren't cut out to be heroes." He and his friends laugh at them. Their taunting chortle hit Ruby differently this time around. Instead of getting annoyed, she was angry. She suddenly stood up, getting Jaune's attention.
"What is wrong with you?" she fumed.
Cardin stopped laughing and glared at the girl. "What, got a problem?" he challenged.
"I should be asking you that," Ruby raged. Her outburst garnered the attention of nearby students, including an aqua-eyed ginger and her long haired male companion.
"Ruby," Jaune cautioned. He's hardly ever seen his friend so mad. Yes, she's been angry before, but nothing like this. Now, she almost looked like her older sister. She was livid.
"We tried to be nice to you back in 7th grade and what did you do? You nearly got Jaune expelled!" Ruby shouted. One of the onlooking students ran somewhere, likely to get a teacher.
Cardin clicked his tongue. "Nice to me?" He huffed. "You just think your hot shit 'cause you got a Quirk."
"Me having a Quirk, or you being Quirkless, has nothing to do with your treatment of others, especially when they have been nothing but nice to you. It wasn't until you started being an obnoxious jerk to everyone when they started to see you in a bad light. No one has bullied you because of you not having a Quirk!" She remembered Izuku Midoriya, with bandages under his sleeves covering bruises and more on his hands. His stature, meek and timid. Ruby clenched her fists. Ruby muttered, "…unlike him."
"What do you know?" Cardin questioned curtly.
"Not much, but what I do know is that the value of a person isn't measured by what they are born with. What matters more is who they are!" Her eyes seem to flash with her indignation. A stifling silence fell on the courtyard as onlookers stood and watch, curious and somewhat afraid of what will happen next. Many of them have known of Ruby Rose for a while, partly because of her upbeat attitude despite her socially awkwardness and partly because of the mess her Quirk makes. Seeing her this angry at someone was unnerving.
It didn't take long for a teacher, Mr. Port, had come to the scene. "Is everything all right here?" he asked kindly.
Jaune was quick to his feet and put a firm grip on Ruby's shoulders. "Yes, Mr. Port! Just a disagreement."
Port's bushy brows and mustache farrowed in uncertainty, taking in the situation. "…Alright then. Return to your lunches everyone, before break is over."
"Yes, sir!" everyone exclaimed, sans Ruby, who stood silently, her eyes towards the ground, curtained by her hair. Her tears glistened with her silver irises, and she bit her lower lip to prevent herself from sobbing.
"Thanks again for bringing the keys to me yesterday," Toshinori said into his cellphone. "I'm sorry for being an inconvenience."
/Don't worry about it Toshinori,/ Tai said from his end. /I'm more surprised that you forgot it. The girls were worried that you might have gotten ganged up on./
Toshinori raises an arm to flex his thin muscles. "Despite this form, I can still wrangle up some criminals." He could hear Tai chuckle.
/Okay, tiger. What are you doing now?/
Toshinori: Heading to a convenient store to get some sodas.
/Sodas? Toshinori, I know you borderline Americanophile, but I don't think it's a good idea for you to drink those./
It was Toshinori's turn to chuckle. "They're not for me. I met up with Tsukauchi earlier and I offered to get some for him. So, anything new?"
/…Ruby made a new friend yesterday./
"Oh yeah? Good for her. I know she has a hard time making friends, so I'm happy that she found another friend. What are they like?"
/A Quirkless young man. Plain, but nice, as Ruby put it./
Toshinori started to take notice of Tai's tone "…Is something wrong?
/Ruby encouraged him to apply for UA's hero course./
"What? That's too dangerous for someone Quirkless," Toshinori said.
/That's what I told her. And she got upset by it. She doesn't think it's fair./
"Understandable. However, the risk is too high for someone without a Quirk to face a dangerous enemy," Toshinori said. 'Enemies like All for One.' Toshinori held back a shudder from the thought of such a villain.
/I told her that too. I think she understands now. All I can hope is that this boy Ruby met would understand and remain her friend. It's clear that she cherishes him, even when they've just met./
"Me too. It's rare for her to find a friend."
/Yeah…I gotta get back to work. Catch you later./
"Same to you," Toshinori said before he hanged up. He sighs as he puts his phone in his pocket and entered the store, dunking down a smidge as he did. 'I'm sorry, Ruby. But that's just how today's world is. Once upon a time, Quirkless people were able to become pro heroes, due to them still being in large numbers.' He found what he was looking for and headed to the cashier to purchase the two sodas. 'Today, however, they are dwindling with each generation that brings in more powerful Quirks. It won't be long until they disappear completely from the world. It's an unfortunate truth. I was lucky when I met Master on that snowy day.' After making his purchase, he exits the store. 'It was thanks to her that I have become the hero that I am today.' He coughs up small specs of blood. 'Or…had…I should say…'
"Somebody, stop him!" a civilian shouted.
"Hm?" Toshinori hummed. He looks down the street to see a giant slime of green wearing nothing, but jeans and stolen money flurried out of his sludge body as he made his escape.
"Where are the heroes? Shouldn't they have arrived already?"
"Maybe they're dealing with another villain somewhere else."
"What are we gonna do?" Toshinori knew he shouldn't have done this. It was just a simple robbery, nothing he should fret. Just small fry compared to the likes he has faced. But, to Toshinori, when there is villainy at work, he must take action. Because he is the Symbol of Peace. With no more hesitation and making sure no one was watching, he shifts into his muscle form, his shirt straining against his empowered strength.
"Have no fear, citizens," All Might bellowed as he stepped forward. "Why? Because I am here!"
Another day and another round laughs and mockery. A typical day at Aldera Junior High School for Izuku. Well, it started rather cool. He got to see a villain attack on his way to school and the heroes that came to scene, as well as the debut appearance of Mt. Lady. It was a rough sketch, but Izuku was able to get the data he needed into his 13th notebook. Along with Kamui Woods and a certain someone else…
Someone snatches his notebook out of his hand.
"Huh?" It was one of Bakugo's friends, the one who could extend his fingers.
"Takin' more notes on becoming a hero, Deku? So pathetic," he said.
"U-Um, well…"
Long-Hair opens the book to the latest entries. Bakugo's other friend took a peak. "Mt. Lady and Kamui Woods. Gigantification and Arbor. Cool Quirks, but nothing special. Getting big isn't rare and being made of wood sounds like a hassle."
"Hey, he wrote more!"
Izuku breaks into a sweat. "W-Wait—!"
"Ruby Rose?" In a page before Kamui Woods is one dedicated to Ruby with a drawing of her and info about her Quirk and possible uses for it. "Who's she? She doesn't look like a pro."
"She looks younger than us."
"Th-That's because she's not a pro. Yet. She's the same age as us," explained Izuku.
"Is she your girlfriend?"
"What? Deku's got a girlfriend? Is she a Quirkless loser too?"
"N-No, she's got a Quirk. And she's not my girlfriend!" Izuku said. Bakugo appears and takes the notebook from Long-Hair.
"I don't know what you think you're doing Deku, but we're not done," he growled. Right. He's still mad about Izuku applying for UA as well. He then took notice of the Ruby drawing. "Who's this?"
"Deku's girlfriend."
"She's not my girlfriend!"
"Maybe she's not real," the shorter-haired bully surmised. "I haven't seen her around."
"That's because she goes to a different school," Izuku said.
"Petal Burst? That's another lame Quirk," Bakugo remarked. He notices a note in the page. "She plans to get into UA too? A snot-nosed brat with a weak ass Quirk like that?"
"I think her Quirk is neat," Izuku muttered.
"You'd say that about any Quirk since you don't got one," Short-Haired commented.
"It's a speed-based Quirk, maybe she'll use it to run away from you once she realized how lame you are." Long-Haired and Short-Haired start laughing.
"That's not funny guys. She's not like that at all." "I hope not." Izuku pushes that thought down. "Just give it back, please?"
But Bakugo used his Explosion Quirk to destroy the book and tosses it out the window, much to Izuku's dismay. The green haired boy ran to the window to look out and see that the book had landed in a concrete pond for the school's koi.
"It's early on when top notched heroes are destined for greatness," Bakugo said arrogantly. "Once I'm the only student in this rinky dink of a middle school who attends UA, people would start talking about me and become the next big thing. That's not ego talkin', I'm just that good."
"Egooo," a thought shared by his two friends.
"So, don't bother tryin' to get into UA if you know what's good for ya. Or else. Got that, nerd?" To add more intimidation to the mix, Bakugo placed a hand on Izuku's shoulder. The latter could feel small sparks popping and smoke escaped from inside of Bakugo's palm. It wasn't enough to set fire or burn, but Izuku could still feel the heat. This just further shows Bakugo's great control over his Quirk. Izuku could only let out a stutter in fear.
Satisfied with himself, Bakugo let's go and moves away.
"Wow. Can't even put up a fight," one of his friends said.
"You know, there is a way for you to get a Quirk, Deku."
Izuku blinked. "Huh?" How?
"Go take a swan dive off a building and maybe you'll get it in your next life." Izuku felt his breath get caught in his throat when his childhood 'friend' says that. Even his cronies stared in shock at what they heard.
Did he really just say that to Izuku?
Feeling better about himself after such a cruel suggestion, Bakugo leaves, and his friends follow.
Izuku stood alone in the classroom, Bakugo's words on repeat in his head. No. That's not a good answer either. Even if it had worked, he would've left behind his poor mother and…who else?
.
Oh! That's right! Ruby!
Even though they had met only once, Izuku felt so close to her, like they have been friends for years. She would be devastated if he would take Bakugo's 'advise.'
.
.
.
Would she?
"Are you sure you don't want me to keep you company while you meet this guy?" Jaune had asked Ruby.
"You're training for UA. I don't want you skipping it for me."
"Then, call me if something happens."
"I will."
That was 30 minutes ago. After school and heading home, Ruby dressed out of her uniform and wore more casual clothes before heading over to Sentaku Park. She sat at the picnic table, leaning forward on it and her arms outstretched in front of her. In her hands is one of her handmade keychains, the one in the white cloak.
"What would you say to him, Mom?" she asked the keychain. She knows it's silly, but she wants some answers, even if it means talking to the dead. If that's even possible. Ruby sighs. "What am I gonna do?"
"Spilt water will not return to the tray. Or something like that," a gruff male voice said. Ruby looks up to see a man in his early forties. He wears a dark gray collar shirt with a black vest that has cross-shaped buttons, and a white v-neck shirt underneath, dark gray dress pants and black dress shoes. He also wears a ring on his right index finger, two other rings on his right ring finger and a necklace with a crooked cross-shaped pendant and a dark red cape hangs from his left shoulder. Attached over his left pectoral on his vest is a green clover pin. "Hey, kiddo."
"Uncle Qrow!" she exclaimed, a little more chipper now seeing one of her uncles. "What are you doing here? Don't you still have a class?"
Qrow shrugs. "Ah, Thirteen can handle it without me. Just wanted to see how you were doing." The man looks around the park. "…and hoping that you don't need a tetanus shot. Or be checked for ticks."
"Already had one earlier this week."
"The other reason I'm here is because I am curious."
"About what?"
"About this new friend of yours."
Whatever thrill Ruby had felt was washed away. "Let me guess, Yang told you, huh?"
"You could say that," Qrow said vaguely, making a sideways glance towards a tree.
"Then you also know about the…well…"
"…Yeah, I do."
"Is it true? About Quirkless people?"
"You know the answer to that, Ruby," Qrow answered solemnly. He takes a seat next to his niece. "It ain't right, I'll admit, especially with the discrimination bull. But, in a superhuman society, being powerless is a death wish. It's not impossible for a Quirkless hero to exist, but the risk is just too damn high. Schools with hero courses have been allowing Quirkless to partake in the hero entrance exam for a while now. That's all fine and dandy but you wanna know how many Quirkless people have actually attempted the exams since then?" Ruby shook her head. "Practically zero. Those who had the balls got hurt pretty easily and fast. Today's exams are prepared for heavy hitters and on-the-spot thinkers. I wonder if the HPSC took pity on them and figured 'hey, let them have a fighting chance' instead of, oh I don't know, tackling the whole Quirkist issue."
"Aren't there laws for Quirkless safety?"
"Why make laws for a dying race? Society has already abandoned them in the gutter. But," He looks at Ruby. "That shouldn't stop you from caring."
"…what should I do?"
"You still want to be friends with the kid?" Qrow asked.
"Of course, I do," Ruby replied. "I don't care that he's Quirkless. He's nothing like Winchester. Midoriya is my friend. I have to tell him something. But what? I've been sitting here, thinking about it and it all ends with him crying!"
"Crying?"
"Don't ask me how I know this, but I think Midoriya might be a crier."
"Well, it looks like it'll be a while until he gets here, why not practice with me? Don't expect me to cry on demand though."
Ruby couldn't help but giggle at that. "Okay."
Sometime later, Izuku makes it to Sentaku Park. He was able to find the pathway in and makes his way, holding the 7th notebook in his arms.
"I can't wait to show this to Rose," he said to himself. He spots Ruby standing near the picnic table. "Hey, Rose!
Ruby almost jumped at his voice. "Oh! H-hey, Midoriya! You made it!"
"Yeah, thankfully. Remember the hero notebooks I had yesterday? There's something that I – " He took notice of Qrow, who is stilling seating. "Who's this?"
"This is my uncle, Qrow Branwen. He just came by to check up on me."
"Hey," Qrow greeted with a half-raised hand.
"It's a pleasure to meet you. That attire…are you a pro?" Izuku asked.
Qrow gave a ghost of a smile. "Guess those big eyes of yours aren't just for show."
"That's so cool!" Izuku exclaimed, his eyes shining. "Which hero are you? I'm not sure if I've ever seen you before."
"You probably hadn't. I'm actually an underground hero. Preferred not to disclose that identity if I can help it."
Izuku nodded. "Of course. I won't pry then. I remember Rose mentioning that she has a lot of pros in her family. It's so cool that Rose has so many heroes to look up to. I'm actually a little jealous. But, I'm more inspired than anything." Ruby made a discreet gesture that said, 'see what I mean?'
"I'm starting to see where Ruby's coming from." "Ruby, is there something you wanted to say to him?" Qrow asked his niece.
Izuku looks at the girl. "You do?"
Ruby really didn't want to do this. "Y-Yeah, I do. You might want to take a seat for this."
"Oh. Sure," Izuku said. He places his notebook on the picnic table and takes a seat next to Qrow, who moved a bit to give him room. Izuku waves giddily at him, clearly excited that he is seating next to a pro.
Ruby takes in a deep breath and lets it out slowly. "…Okay. Here's the thing. I'm not sure how to say this without breaking your heart, but…Listen. It came to light to me that, well—"
"Wait." Izuku's tone was soft, but his expression told her everything. "I think I know what you're about to tell me." He had it so many times that he was able to pick up keywords that would build up to the unfortunate truth. "You're saying that I can't become a hero, aren't you?"
Izuku looked at Ruby. His expression seems calm, but Ruby could see in his eyes, his fragile hope trying it's hardest to stay afloat.
With a heavy heart, Ruby said, "Yes. I am."
"…Oh," Midoriya muttered. He sounded so broken up about it, his voice quivered slightly, and Ruby felt awful. Qrow started to feel a little awkward. He was never good at these types of things.
"Midoriya, I'm—"
"Please, don't apologize," Izuku interjected. "You have nothing to apologize for. You're…not the first to tell, nor will you be the last."
"Midoriya, right?" Qrow spoke up. Izuku turned to look at him. It was a pitiful sight. The veteran pro could see that the kid is trying to desperately to keep it together. And he knows that he won't make it any easier but… "Let me say, first and foremost, that whatever treatment has happened to you is not right. You don't deserve any of that. That includes the false hope. I am a teacher at UA, kid, and I can honestly say what will happen to you at the entrance exams, and it's not pretty. In today's society, you can't become an effective hero without a Quirk. Do you understand?"
Izuku cast his eyes to the ground. "…Yeah…I hear ya." He rises to his feet, his eyes covered by his curls.
"Midoriya?" Ruby asked.
"I…I'm sorry. I…I want to be alone. Please, excuse me." The poor boy solemnly drudge through the overgrown kudzu and out of sight of the other two. But, Ruby saw. She had saw the tears that feel from Izuku's cheeks.
And she felt like crying too. Who could blame her? She had become just like everyone else who discourages Izuku's dream.
"Huh, he is a crier," Qrow observed. He notices the sad/annoyed look Ruby is giving him. "…Too soon?"
Laying on the picnic table still was Izuku's #7 notebook.
Izuku begrudgingly returned to his routine, the old dance and song he knew all so well. Walking home from school with his head low from the weight of his heavy heart and the many intrusive thoughts that like to call his psyches home.
He had found hope. For a fleeting moment, someone believed he could do it. Someone had faith in him and said that he could be a hero.
Only for that too to be taken away.
"Why was I not surprised? I guess, deep down, I knew. At least Rose was nicer about it. Nicer than a lot of people, really. She looked almost as upset about it as I am, so I can't fault her for anything. That guy, Qrow Branwen, he's…not wrong. It's virtually impossible to be a hero like All Might, not at his level. But…"
He shakes his head vigorously.
"I can't – no – I won't give up," Izuku declared. "I'll continue to try no matter what anyone say and do it with a smile!" Izuku tries to summon up the last bit of confidence and lets out All Might's signature laugh as he walked through a small tunnel. He was then silenced with he heard the manhole cover behind him was shot into the air and a large, slimy ooze emerge from the hole. Izuku froze with fright as two, bulbous eyes peer around and locked onto him.
"Well, well, well. Lucky me," the thing gurgled. "You'd make a fine skin suit."
"A…skin suit?"
Back at Sentaku Park, Ruby had taken Izuku's place on the picnic table, holding his forgotten #7 notebook. She wanted to hurry and give this back to him, but she wanted to give him space. By the time she thought he had enough time and went looking for him, he was gone.
And here she is, looking at each hero Izuku had written for this notebook. Turn the page, Death Arms. Turn the page, Majestic. Turn the page, Due Process. Turn the page, Ms. Joke. Turn the page, Crust. Turn the page—
Ruby gasped and tears started to collect from her eyes. She covered her mouth to prevent a sob from escaping.
Qrow took notice of his niece's despondency. "Ruby?" Ruby was silent, wiping away any stray tears. "Hey, uh, wanna grab something to eat?"
"…sure."
"How about Archam's Treat? It's been a while since I had Lucius' key lime pie."
"…okay."
Qrow moves near Ruby and puts a comforting arm around her shoulders. "Ruby, he's gonna be okay. I can tell that he has a good head on his shoulders, so there is no doubt that he could get into UA's general course. You can see him again then."
"…yeah." Ruby gets up to her feet and gather her things into her backpack, including Izuku's notebook, and made her way out of the park.
Qrow watched his niece's retreating back. "This is a lot tougher than I thought."
If there was one place in Musutafu that All Might had never thought of traversing, it's the sewer system. And yet, here he is, trudging through the knee-high murky waters of the place. In hindsight, it's probably the worst place to be when you still have a tender, 5-year-old wound. This place was an infection waiting to happen.
All Might wheezed as he stopped to take a breath. "Damn it. Where did he go? I better find him and get out of here before I start smelling like rotten eggs." He sniffs his shirt and cringes. "Whoo…too late."
As he resumes his search, he ponders about the sludge villain. Why was he stilling money? Has he been short on cash for rent? Or was he trying to feed his family? Whatever the case may be, All Might needs to find the villain and take him into custody. Maybe then they could find out his reasonings and help him.
He hears a high-pitched scream from above. He looks up to see the manhole cover entrance.
"Someone is in trouble!" All Might exclaimed. He leaped high, plowing through the manhole cover and into a tunnel. "Have no fear. You are safe. Now that I am here!" He looks to see the sludge villain and trapped in his slimy body is… "Is that…a child?!", All Might realized in horror. Indeed, it was a kid. A young middle schooler from the way it seems. And it looks like the villain is trying to suffocate the boy!
"Damn it!" the Sludge Villain cursed. He lashes out his long appendages at the hero, who ducks.
"How dare you…" All Might dodges another attack and charged at the villain, his fist at the ready. "How dare you attack a child!"
"TEXAAASS SMAAAAAASH!"

Sooo, ch. 317...I'm sad and hurting...I was trying my damn best not to cry and I am still reeling from it. How can a piece of literature leave such an powerful impact? Horikoshi is either a genius or a sadist...or both. Either way, applause for Horikoshi to make me anxious, again! lol I'm honestly thinking about walking away from the manga for a bit...I keep telling myself with each chapter release since the arc started...
