hey! Honestly not what I was planning on updating, but I figured yall were in need of a pick me up
This was gonna be longer, but I decided to split it into two parts
Please enjoy!
Lucy frowned to herself as she failed to listen to her lecture, grumbling quietly as she melted against her desk.
What the hell was that? Had Natsu ever run away from her like that before? Not that she could recall. Maybe when they were little and playing some sort of game.
She thought he was joking, about to poke his head from the hall and laugh at her flabbergasted appearance. Lucy twisted her lip and followed after him as he left, feeling her heart sink slightly as Natsu was nowhere to be seen. He always walked her back to class after lunch.
She felt a tap on her shoulder, Cana sliding her notebook into Lucy's point of view.
'What's wrong? You look like you're about to turn blue.'
Lucy sighed, scribbling back her answer.
'Natsu ran away from me when we were making out in the first year classrooms'
Cana stifled a laugh, the star never embarrassed to give the brunette every detail.
'Oh? You taught him what I showed you?'
'The other day, yeah, but I don't think it was the kiss. He was touchy and warm like usual
'Ho, maybe he got scared? It's new territory for you two'
'He was happy when we did it for the first time, so I don't think so. But he did show me something new'
'What? He grab your tits?'
Lucy almost jumped up to yell her answer, flustered as the oracle snickered quietly.
'No! He fed me some of his fire'
'He can do that?'
'I guess so, it was sweet. When I asked to let me taste it again, he freaked out and ran. So now I feel all anxious and annoyed'
'Eh? You shouldn't! That ass needs to grow a pair, that was so rude!'
'I think so too, but I don't think getting mad is going to help the situation. I'll just talk to him after school'
'Mkay, call me once you figure things out'
A chilling glare from the front of the room scared them into paying attention, the teacher clearing his throat as he continued their lesson.
Lucy felt a bit better after resolving to talk to her dragon, mulling through how to approach the situation.
What was there to even say? They never talked about things, as they usually just knew what the other was thinking.
Talking meant acknowledging, but it wasn't like they weren't dancing around something. What went on between them was just as natural as breathing. It felt weird to question their actions now, but maybe it was necessary. At least if Natsu was feeling some type of way that made him run away.
As soon as the bell rang, she grabbed her bag and waved to her friends, rushing to his room amidst the crowd of students.
It helped to bolster her heat, no one bumping into the star that would surely burn their skin.
She stopped as their door slid open, her eyes widening slightly as she almost bumped into Gray.
"Oh, Lucy? Hey," He said, moving them out of the doorway as more of his class began to flood out. "If you're looking for Natsu, he already took off."
"Oh, really?" She cringed at the falter of her heart, an uncomfortable feeling stirring in her stomach. "Where did he go?"
"Lisanna had some furniture to move around so Salamander went to help out." Gajeel said as he joined them.
"I was going to talk about something with him," She shrugged and sighed. "I'll just ask him to come over later."
Lucy sent him a text as she walked off campus with her friends, anxiously gripping her strap the whole way home. This wasn't like Natsu at all.
Cana refused to leave the nervous star alone, begrudgingly committing to her homework as they avoided the issue at hand.
She hadn't known everyone for nearly as long, but was capable enough to sort everyone out. An easy way to figure out their problem would be to look into the future, but Cana never liked to use her powers if the vision didn't choose to come to her. And Natsu was simple enough. He and Lucy were obviously growing past their ability to keep things unspoken. And he was more aware of her presence as a woman, not as a best friend.
"He said he can't come over," Lucy picked up her phone as soon as it buzzed, a frazzled purple forming around her twisted lips. "His parents want him home for dinner."
"Sounds plausible enough? Don't you think?"
"Should I just ask him now? I'd call but I don't think he'll pick up the phone."
"I don't see why not."
'Why'd you run away earlier? Are you okay?'
'Just didn't want to be late for class'
'You can always tell me if you're uncomfortable, Natsu'
'I'm okay! You worry too much'
'Are you sure you don't have time to drop by? I'll leave my window open?'
'Gotta be up early, sorry'
"Woah, woah, what's up with the rainbow?" Cana widened her eyes slightly as Lucy's colors mixed, her skin turning with blues, purples, and greens.
"He's lying to me."
Lucy wasn't sure if it was appropriate to be mad, but she had the right, no? Natsu could have been honest and said he was uncomfortable. He didn't have to see her if he wasn't ready; to lie about the reasons why felt disrespectful.
He had to wake up early? Really? Who would buy that, coming from Natsu Dragneel.
Maybe giving him space was the better option, but he gave up that right when he chose to lie.
Lucy was at his front door, bright and early when she least expected Natsu to leave.
"Oh, Lucy? Natsu already left for school, I figured you were here to pick him up." Grandine answered the door and tilted her head, confused as the star forced a smile.
"He must be trying to beat me there," She laughed the situation off, waving as she walked away. "Thank you for letting me know!"
Cana yawned as she pushed open her door, quickly moving out of the way as Lucy stomped her way in.
"I can't believe him! He went to school without me?! He left an hour and a half before he even needed to wake up because he knew I'd show up at his house! Urgh!"
"So we can go back to bed, good," She yawned again, leading Lucy through her house and into her bedroom. "You'll be cranky if you don't get more sleep."
"Cana–"
"Nope, you can complain more when we wake up. Anger can't be properly executed without a good night's rest."
The star grumbled as the oracle pulled her into bed, hanging onto Lucy as if she were a stuffed animal. A little more sleep would probably do her some good.
