Sunburst Island, coast
[Kingler, the Pincer Pokémon and the evolved form of Krabby. Its large and hard pincer has 10,000-horsepower strength. However, being so big, it is unwieldy to move.
Gender: Male
Ability: Hyper Cutter
Moves: Harden, Vice Grip, Leer, Stomp, Water Gun, Bubble Beam, Crabhammer, Hyper Beam]
Kingler was underwater training with Heavy given how the two have massive claws. While Heavy mostly had some range moves, Kingler had learned to better use Bubble which evolved into Bubble Beam and a recently learned Scald. The Pincer Pokémon was currently hammering away at a rock, his massive claw slightly turning to metal.
[Pidgeot, the Bird Pokémon and the evolved form of Pidgeotto. This Pokémon flies at Mach 2 speed, seeking prey. Its large talons are feared as wicked weapons.]
The recently evolved member of Ash's team was flapping her wings hard. Soar was monitoring her progress and noticed a few flickers of ember. Pouring more energy, the Bird Pokémon began to make a few red-Orange waves, causing her progress in Heat Wave to become better.
[Muk, the Sludge Pokémon and the evolved form of Grimer. Smells so awful, it can cause fainting. Through degeneration of its nose, it lost its sense of smell.
Gender: Male
Ability: Stench
Moves: Body Slam, Sludge Bomb, Minimize, Knock Off]
Muk was busy with Chemistry with learning some new moves. The purple Sludge Pokémon wanted to prove himself, so he could be used more in battle. He had successfully learn Toxic and worked on Sludge Wave. He was in the middle of breaking apart his molecules for Acid Armor.
Togepi created a small bubble of water and splashed it onto himself. He shimmer green, emphasizing he had healed himself. He chirped with happiness as Eevee cheered for his progress.
Successfully learning Calm Mind, Psyduck had begun to train. The yellow Duck Pokémon was clawing in rapid succession at a rock. He turned away and conjured a sphere of water. Firing the Water Pulse, the impact didn't do much, but it did cause a small fissure. Mallard praised his progress.
Ivysaur was in the middle of training with Rafflesia with learning Sunny Day. Ivysaur managed to generate a miniature sun that created the weather effect. Both Grass types took their mark before sprinting. Rafflesia proved faster, thanks to Chlorophyll, but Ivysaur soon found new speed in his evolution, making him faster as well. The Kanto Grass starter smiled at this, his own Chlorophyll ability slowly unlocking.
Far at sea, Lapis and Lapras was doing some training only their species could do. Lapis generated a charge, showing Lapras' could learn Thundeebolt before canceling it and firing a Brine instead. Lapras nodded and held her breath before spewing the salty version of Water Gun.
[Luxray, the Gleam Eyes Pokémon. Luxray can see through solid objects. It will instantly spot prey trying to hide behind walls, even if the walls are thick.]
And back on land, Pikachu had a new sparring partner. Pikachu's paw glowed white, going for Brick Break which X-Ray the Luxray responded with a Night Slash. The two physical moves clashed before Pikachu followed up with a Quick Attack, which was intercepted when Luxray fired off a Swift and an assortment of Hidden Powers. After being blasted with the stars and orbs, Pikachu got to his feet and decided to take a trick from Thor, creating a Light Screen but it was crunched through by Luxray's Psychic Fangs. Seth had sent Thor back to where he stored his Pokémon, giving the Mouse Pokémon some R for the time being.
Seth's other on hand Pokémon were doing their own training. Lucario was mediating, Paris perfected a Fairy Type move, and Ingis was busy taking a well deserved rest by sunbathing.
Seth was busy getting some rest, he was taking a me-day for the time being. Ash was slightly eyeing his mentor, secretly wondering why he needed a day to himself, but ignored it. To his left, Tracey was once again asleep as well as his Pokémon except Scyther who was sharpening his scythes as usual. Ash overheard Scyther always wanted a good fight, but considering how Tracey was a drawer than a battler, he made dew.
As you can see, Ash swapped his Wartortle and Mr. Mime for Kingler and Muk. He felt like he owed it to them since he didn't use them until the Indigo League. Forgetting the memory, he was slowly beginning to find himself getting sleepy. The sleep eventually won and Ash rested himself on a nearby rock.
'Ugh, of course I'm here again,' Ash lamented. He was beginning to find these sequences a bit repetitive at this point. But this time he was presented with an image of an Onix that was made out of crystals.
An Onix made out of crystals? What did that have to do with him?
'Hello again Chosen One,' the same voice that unlocked his gift of understand PokeSpeech spoke, 'I take it you are having another vision sequence.'
"A vision sequence?" Ash questioned. 'Events or occasions that can or will occur,' the voice explained. "So like those previous images that I witness the first time?" Ash inquired. 'In due time, they are possible events that could happen. But as of right now, seek out this Onix,' the voice spoke.
"How will I know where to find it?" Ash asked. 'Worry not, that will come to you before you know it,' the voice explained before Ash awoke.
Rubbing his head, Ash looked around and found himself in the exact same scene as he was before. He was a bit puzzled with the idea the 'Crystal' Onix but according to the voice of the void, he was to find this elusive Pokémon. And how would he do that?
Lapis finished teaching Lapras Thunderbolt for better coverage. 'Thanks for the help, Lapis,' Lapras thanked. 'Don't sweat it, us Ice types got to stick tog-' Lapis started before noting a bottle in the water. Lapras saw the item to before tilting her head in confusion. 'What's a bottle doing all the way out here?' Ash's Transport Pokémon asked. 'Not sure, but it looks like there is a note inside,' Lapis said. 'Maybe we should take it to the others!' Lapras said before grabbing the bottle with her beak and taking off. Lapis followed behind but at a slower pace.
All the other Pokémon finished their training and were at attention. "Alright, now all we need is ou-" Ash started before seeing Lapras swimming in a fast pace with Lapis behind. 'Gang way!' She shouted before coming to a halt that caused a small wave. 'We found this bottle with a note in it,' she explained. Ash took the bottle and read the note.
"To anyone the reader of this letter,
If you know anything about the Crystal Onix, let me know right away!
Signed,
Marissa of Sunburst Island."
'So the Crystal Onix is real...' Ash thought. Perhaps the voice is giving him some direction with his life.
'Crystal Onix?' Pikachu questioned, 'sounds like a wild Swanna chase.' 'No it isn't! There are rumors about a group of Onix that have Crystal skin instead of their usual rocky exterior,' Lapras explained, 'it is quite common around the Orange Islands.'
"Maybe this is worth a look?" Tracey said, "I am quite curious in this Onix, even if it might be a hoax." "Well, I ,for one, would be interested in seeing a Crystal Onix. What about you, Ash?" Seth said.
Ash pondered over this. The Crystal Onix is real. And the voice in his head said to find it. "... I think we should find this Marissa character, maybe she has more info about the Crystal Onix.." he finally said.
"Alright then. Luckily for us, we happen to be on Sunburst Island," Seth informed, "let's take off!"
Johto, random forest
"Hydro Pump!" Gary called out.
His Blastoise fired two streams of water from his cannons. The gush of water hit his opponent, a Venusaur. While he would admit, it was not the best choice to use his Water type against the Grass/Poison type, Gary wasn't going to let something like that stand in his way. His effective Pokémon had been exhausted and knocked out by the rival trainer.
"Cute trick, Gare-Bear. But it's time for me to win! Venusaur, Grass Pledge!" His opponent, a female trainer, commanded. She was dressed in a light blue tank top, red skirt, white and red sneakers, and light blue leg warmers. She has a white hat that covered some of her brown hair.
The Seed Pokémon glowed green and stomped the ground, creating pillars of grass energy that surrounded the Shellfish Pokémon before coming together and swallowing the Water type. Blastoise, buckled on one leg before straining to catch himself. "Nice try, Leaf! But I'll be the one winning!" Gary shot back. "Blizzard!"
The Shellfish Pokémon fired a wind of freezing air towards the Seed Pokémon, who took it before being knocked down and out. "Argh," she let out before returning her starter Pokémon, "Not bad, thought I had you on the ropes there."
"Hmph. You should know by now," Gary boasted, "I never lose!"
"You're recent league rank says otherwise," Leaf muttered before asking a question, "So, have you heard from Ash recently?"
Gary had to refrain from rolling his eyes. Ashy-Boy just got lucky for his first league attempt. His grandpa informed him of the Johto region before he ever left on his journey. And after the Indigo League, Gary decided to take this region for a spin. But still, Ash hadn't been seen for a while now, even for him. He knew he was traveling with the Gym Leader and orange haired girl. Maybe they stopped in Pallet Town to rest and celebrate?
"Nope. Ashy Boy is more elusive than an Abra, amirite?" The Oak joked. Leaf ignored the jab at Ash, he and Gary never saw eye to eye again after that little incident. "Anyways, maybe I should check with him. You don't have a 'delicate' friendship with him," she muttered the last part.
Leaf took her leave as Gary headed his own way.
Sunburst Island, market
Ash was in awe of all the glass merchandise in the market. "Yep, Sunburst is popular for its glass works," Tracey informed after seeing Ash's face. Pikachu and Eevee were admiring the works as well.
"Are you seriously keeping your stand open?" A gruff voice shouted that caused the trio to pause and trail the voice. They came to the stand where they found the owner of the gruff voice and a little girl, who was on the verge of tears. Ash heard the doubt in the voice and it reminded him too much about what those traitors said.
"Yes! My big brother is an artist!" She cried. "Hey now, I don't mean to make you cry..." the older man said, trying to prevent any onlookers. "What's going on here?" Seth asked, making his appearance known as Eevee trailed behind him, all with glares. "N-nothing! Nothing's wrong here! In fact I was just taking my leave," the older man said as he left, grumbling something about nosy kids.
Ash turned to address the crying girl, "Are you alright?" "Y-y-yes," the girl said, wiping away her tears. "What's your name?" Tracey asked. "I'm Marissa," she said. "Wait Marissa? Did perhaps write this letter?" Ash asked and pulled out the note. Marissa's eyes widened, "Yes! Quick tell me everything you know about the Crystal Onix!" She said.
"Woah, woah, woah. Easy, Marissa," Seth calmed down, "we didn't even know there was a Crystal Onix." "Oh, I see..." Marissa said before looking down. "But that doesn't mean we aren't interested in helping. Maybe you can explain why you want information about the Crystal Onix," Seth suggested.
"Hmmmm... maybe," Marissa thought aloud, "I guess I could explain, but I should to get my brother first."
Marissa guided the trio to her house where they saw Mateo hard at work at glass making. "Ugh!" The glassmaker let out, clearly frustrated with his work before noticing his sister and the trio. "Marissa, there you are," he said, "are you bothering these people?"
"No brother! They want to know about the Crystal Onix!" Marissa informed to her brother, who groan at the mention. "This again? Marissa, I hate to say but the Crystal Onix is a myth. Grandpa has been the only one to see the Pokémon and no one else."
"But it has to be real!" Marissa pleaded, almost on the verge of tears, "Please, for my sake! You shouldn't have to give up on your dream!"
"Well, if this Crystal Onix is real, wouldn't you want to see?" Tracey asked. "Look, it's not like I would if I could. But just meeting the Onix is like impossible," Mateo said.
"Well, what if you had some help in searching for it?" Seth spoke up. Tracey nodded with agreement as Ash was more reluctant to do so.
Marissa was thrilled with the help, but Mateo just rolled his eyes before agreeing that help searching for the Crystal Onix might be beneficial. "So how would we find this Onix?" Seth asked.
Jessie and James both walked around Sunburst Island. Keeping their thoughts to themselves, what Seth said still lingered in their minds.
"Are you thinking about what the new twoip said?" Meowth voiced as he walked with them. The two human companions told what the hoodie twerp had told them and Meowth found it a hoax, just a way of getting under their skin.
"Relax! Da three of us are going to swap that Pikachu and the other Pokémon from the twerp and his new friends!" Meowth reassured them. Jessie and James slightly shivered at the idea of stealing Pokémon but perhaps it was just all in their heads.
"Did you hear that Mateo is looking for the Crystal Onix again?" a townsfolk said that grasped the attention of the TRio. "As if! The story of the Crystal Onix is nothing more than a myth. What kind of Onix is made of glass anyways?" another townsfolk replied.
Hearing about the Crystal Onix peeked the interest of the TRio before they smiled. "That sounds like a ticket to the top! Let's find the Onix!" Meowth cheered.
The gang was strolling around through the mountain tops, searching for any clues of the Onix. "So, you said it was somewhere on this island?" Tracey inquired. Marissa and Mateo nodded, the latter being reluctant to do so.
"How are we supposed to find?" Ash asked. He couldn't help but feel like he knew where they needed to go.
"With a little radar sense," Tracey smugly replied and sent out his Venonat. "Venonats are known for their sensory skills so he will be helpful in finding the Onix."
Marissa held a miniature sculpture of an Onix in front of the Insect Pokémon before the Bug/Poison scanned the surroundings looking for the same signature.
After a brief moment, Tracey's Pokémon had a signature and led the way...
to a rock formation that resembled an Onix.
"Well..." Ash started, "it looks like an Onix," trying to lighten the mood.
"Nice try, Venonat," Tracey thanked before returning his Pokémon.
"So what now?" Marissa asked. "I think I know where it could be..." Ash spoke up, finally mustering up the courage to speak his mind. All eyes were on him as he said that. "How would you?" Mateo skeptically commented. Ash had his gaze in the distance, as if he was tracing something in the distance. 'Um, Ash?' Pikachu asked but he was only met with silence as he began to walk in a certain direction.
Seth secretly beamed at Ash's sentence, 'That's it, follow your instincts." Everyone soon followed afterwards.
After walking a long distance sometime later, Ash came across the beach and took notice of an island in the distance. Seth and Eevee were giddy, Tracey and Mateo were more skeptically then relieved, and Marissa was just amazed at Ash's claim.
"It's... there," Ash pointed out. The Pokémon Watcher and sculptor were curious about Ash's claim but kept their thoughts to themselves, rather wanting to see if the Pallet Town native was correct.
The waves from Sunburst and the distant island began to part revealing a path for them to walk through. "Woah!" Tracey shouted, "check it out!"
"We are one step closer to finding the Crystal Onix!" Marissa cheered.
"Well then let's go shall we?" Seth asked before the group took off.
After walking through the sandbar, the group were on the island. Said island resembled a forest that seemed to lack any natural life. After walking a bit, they came across a cave. "This must be where the Crystal Onix lives!" Mateo stated, a rush of joy flowing through him as he might be able to meet the Crystal one.
"Well? What are we waiting for?" Seth gestured before the group made their way into the cave.
The interior of the cave had glistening crystals jutted around the ceiling and sides. In the middle was a medium sized pool of water.
"Such a beautiful place..." Marissa trailed off. "It sure is..." Mateo said in awe, perhaps this little trip was worth it.
Ash was scanning the lake, looking for any signs of the Crystal Onix, whether it was real or not. Two eyes locked on the trainer before a mass bursted through the water. Everyone directed their attention to see what had appeared from the pool.
A large, blue crystalline Onix.
'Hello, Chosen One...' The Rock Snake Pokémon rumbled in a feminine tone.
"It really does exist..." Mateo said, slowly taking a few steps to admire the Pokémon. All this time, it was real.
The in awe moment ended as a net covered the Rock/Ground Pokémon, who rumbled in anger. "Who did that?!" Marissa shouted and turned to a sound of maniacal laughter entered the cave from the entrance.
(Cue Team Rocket motto)
"Team Rocket!" The three people that knew them shouted with anger. "Thanks for leading us to this magnificent Pokémon for the boss!" Meowth chortled. Jessie and James were a bit out of it. "Honestly, we thought about trapping yous guys but Jess and Jimmie were against that. So this is the next best thing!"
The Onix merely roared before coming out of the water and bellowed a stream of purplish flames at the TRio, sending them blasting off as Meowth was too busy gloating the heroes.
"Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off againnnnnnnn!"
Onix shook the next off easily before turning her attention to the two humans that were here for her. Onix readied herself to battle Mateo and as if he knew, the glassmaker nodded and pulled out a Pokeball.
"Go, Cloyster!" Mateo called before sending out the Bivalve Pokémon. "Use Water Gun!" The Water/Ice type fired a stream of water but it merely bounced off the Onix's skin.
"H-how?" Mateo questioned before following up, "Supersonic!" The clam Pokémon readied himself to send sonic waves but Onix bellowed, causing sand to entrap her opponent. Cloyster ceased his attack, struggling to get free. The Bivalve Pokémon was then met with a Tackle from the crystalline Pokémon. Cloyster crashed into the cave wall before slumping down in defeat.
"No way!" Marissa said, surprised that Cloyster went down so easily. The sideline heroes watched as the fabled Crystal Onix defeat Mateo's Pokémon in such a short battle. The Crystal Onix turned her gaze to Ash briefly before returning to Mateo's attention.
"Hmmm..." Mateo thought aloud, "It should be weak to Water type attacks, but it just bounced off. So, then..." he pulled out another Pokeball, "I'll need the help of my glassmaking partner!" The glassmaker sent out his Charmeleon.
'So you're real,' Charmeleon noted before getting ready, 'this shall be a fight to remember!'
The Crystal Onix roared with a light grey aura and sent rocks from above.
"It's using Rock Slide!" Tracey commented. "Charmeleon, cut through them with Slash!" Mateo ordered. The Flame Pokémon's claws grew white and he leapt up cutting through the rocks as best as he could. "Flamethrower!" Charmeleon took a deep breath and fired a torrent of flames that managed to hit the crystalline Pokémon. And to their surprise, Onix bellowed in pain.
"What? That did damage?" Mateo noticed before capitalizing on the opportunity, "Go for Fire Spin!" Charmeleon unleashed a spiral of flames that engulfed the crystalline snake to the point her "rocks" glowed red from the sheer heat intensity. The Onix collapsed from the Fire type moves before locking eyes with the glassmaker.
There seemed to be an unspoken conversation that made Mateo close his eyes and reflect.
"Hey, Mateo! Now's your chance to catch it!" Tracey emphasized. "... No." was the glassmaker's reply.
"Huh?" Everyone said. "When I was battling it, I felt the spark of glassmaking return. Something I thought I lost a long time ago," Mateo answered. He walked towards the fallen Onix and gave him a cautious rub, "Thanks for inspiring me again."
'You are welcome,' the Rock/Ground type replied but all the non-PokeSpeech people heard was a growl. The Crystal Onix slowly slithered towards Ash, which began to unnerve him a bit. Pikachu readied himself for a potential battle.
'Chosen One, how long I have waited for you,' Onix began, 'The glassmaker has found his spark to continue his dream. Now I wanted to battle you, but as you can see I am quite exhausted. I wish for you to capture me.'
Ash stared with such shock present in his mannerism. The Onix wanted to be caught by him of all people! 'The voice didn't mention anything about me catching her...' Ash thought but she wanted to go willingly. So without further ado, Ash pulled out a Pokeball to which Onix tapped her nose against it, allowing herself to be captured. The ball rocked three times before it beeped, signaling the capture. It vanished shortly afterwards, heading to Professor Ivy's lab.
"Uhhhhhhhhh," Ash started with a confused tone, "I caught an Onix?" he finished with a sheepish laugh to his companions.
Tracey and Mateo were dumbfounded, Seth and his partner smiled at the achievement, and Marissa just had sparkles in her eyes, "Wow! The Onix just let you catch it!"
Ash chuckled nervously, "Yeah..." he dwindled out, not knowing how to explain how that happened. 'My trainer's the best,' Pikachu smugly complimented.
The group took one last look of the island's lake before walking away.
A few hours later, Mateo was making the best glass sculptures that garnished the attention of many people on Sunburst island.
At the shore, Mateo and Marissa waved goodbye to the two retreating Lapras. "Thanks for helping me find my inspiration again!" Mateo called out.
"Take care of Onix, Ash!" Marissa said afterwards.
"Will do!" Ash said back with a hint of nervous in his tone. Seth, Tracey, and Eevee gave their own goodbyes as well. The Pallet Town native took out his purchased glass statue: a Pikachu. He smiled at the statue. But his mind still wondered at the idea of why Onix chose him. Perhaps only time would tell.
Ash's Team (on hand): Pikachu, Ivysaur, Muk, Pidgeot, Psyduck, Togepi, Kingler, Lapras
Ivy's Corral: Charizard, Tauros Herd (x30), Mew, Wartortle, Mimey the Mr. Mime, Onix
A/N: Finally, glad I got this done. Was a bit of a handful, but glad it's done.
I managed to cut down Seth's team.
Ash caught a Crystal Onix! A huge game changer for him.
Also, heads up, this will become a monthly updated story.
