A/N: I recently made a Beauty and the Beast story. Check it out if you like.
The sun had gone down, now the moon was shining. Seth popped out of the water, pushing some hair back from his head and saw the yacht from before.
There seemed to be a celebration going on. Fireworks were lit and shot into the air. Music was being played. And Seth immediately wanted to know more.
"Seth!" Josh hissed as he appeared, "What in Neptune's blazes are you thinking!" before jumping at the sound of explosions. Seth didn't hear him and swam towards the vessel.
He secretly climbed up to a perch and noticed about ten men on board. Some were playing instruments and some were dancing. There was also a four legged creature that Seth remembered Marcus called a dog. The German Shepherd was having the time of her life, playing with the humans before she started to sniff around.
Seth became startled as the dog began to sniff toward his direction. The merman placed himself with his back against the exterior, hoping the dog wouldn't notice him. Taking a small peak to make sure the dog is gone...
He came face to face with the German Shepherd. She gave the merman a lick, which caused the receiver to giggle a bit.
"Zoe! Here girl! *whistle*"
The canine turned and faced the call, abandoning her new discovery for her owner. The dog immediately began to jump up and down, licking her owner nonstop. Seth quietly made his way back to his position and saw the owner of the dog.
He was a young adult like him with brown hair and eyes. Along his face were freckles. He wore a white dress shirt, jeans, a red scarf around his waist, and black boots. Seth secretly blushed at his appearance.
The merman knew all about Prince Caleb... well at least of his appearance. He knew he had a dog now, but this was the first time he had seen him interact with her, from what Caleb said. Seth just watched as the human prince pulled out a flute and began to play it.
"Woah! Quite the show, sweetie!" Marcus said, flying down to Seth's level. "Marcus, keep it down," Seth hissed, "You'll blow our cover."
"Oh, being sneaky are we?" The pelican said before eyeing what Seth was watching. Breanna and Haven made their way over to the vessel. "So what's the story with this one?" Haven asked. "It's Caleb," Seth said dreamily. "Oh boy," Breanna groaned. "Who is this 'Caleb' character?" Josh asked.
"His crush," Haven and Breanna both teased. "Ugh," Seth let out, "I wish."
"What?! You have a crush on a human of all things?!" Josh let out, clearly shocked at the recent information.
"It's not a crush," Seth admitted, "it's just he's so handsome, cute, charming," the merman began to list every good detail he knew about the human, much to the amusement of his friends and to a lesser extent, Josh's fear.
"Alright, alright, everyone piped down,' Alex announced. "If I could have your attention, please. It's my honor to present to the prince, Caleb, a grand present I hope he will enjoy greatly."
"Awe, Alex," Caleb smiled, "You shouldn't have." "Oh but of course, I had too," Alex boasted. "Happy Birthday, Caleb."
A drape was dropped and revealed a grand marble statue of Caleb dressed as a knight. The sailors and Caleb looked in displeasure, some even getting a few pity claps, as Zoe just snarled at the statue.
"Goodness. Um... Alex it's... it's," Caleb paused, trying to find the right words to describe the statue, "... it's really something. "Thank you," Alex accepted the praise, "although I had hoped it might be a wedding present."
Seth froze at that. Caleb? Married?!
"Ugh, here we go again," Caleb groaned. "Look, as your best friend and advisor, I think you should end up with the one. Even your father thought so on his deathbed," Alex reminded him.
"But, hypothetically speaking, what if I don't want to be king?" the prince explained. "Plus if you are still sore over that Sabrina girl..."
"It's not just me, the whole kingdom wants you to find someone at this point," Alex informed. "And I appreciate your concern, Alex, I do," Caleb replied, "but I want to marry who I want," the prince made his way over to the rail on the yacht and taking a seat. Had he looked down instead of the night sky, he would have spotted Seth's blue tail.
"I just haven't found the one yet. But when I find the right one, I'll know. It'll hit me, like lightning!" Caleb emphasized.
And as if right on cue, lightning appeared followed by thunder. The winds began vicious and rain began to fall. One of the crewman called out, "Hurricane inbound! Stand fast! Secure the rigging!" Everyone on board to action in a hurry just as the storm grew worse and worse by the moment. Things weren't better in the water. Breanna, Haven and Josh dove underwater but were too high up and taken by waves. Marcus began to lose his grip with his beak and went soaring away. Seth soon lose his grip as well and was thrown into sea.
The waves rocked the vessel nonstop, everyone aboard trying to steady themselves as they did. The rain came down harder as the storm continued, soaking everyone onboard. Seth resurfaced and watched in horror as lightning struck the mast of the yacht, alighting with fire. Much to his relief, most of the crew was on lifeboats, having evacuated before things got worse. Caleb, Alex, and the sailors watched as the yacht was covered in flames.
"Bark! Bark!"
Zoe, on the other hand, was on the ship still.
"Zoe! Hang on, girl! I'll get you!" Caleb reassured before diving into the water and swimming to the burning ship. Climbing his way up the yacht, he saw Zoe barking for her owner to save her. "Here girl!" the prince yelled. The German Shepherd ran to the best of her movement as the flames consume the vessel. Zoe makes her way over and Caleb carries her to the starboard side. But the prince gets his leg caught in broken piece of wood which led to Zoe getting thrown into the sea. Caleb struggled to get free and the flames soon reached a box of unlit fireworks.
There was an explosion and the yacht was no more.
"CALEB!" Alex cried.
Seth shielded his face from the explosion and his heart raced. He swam over to find Caleb through the debris, hoping he was still alive. A few seconds later, he found the human prince, unconscious holding onto a piece of driftwood before slipping into the sea. Seth quickly dove underwater and grabbed Caleb to pull him to the surface and carry him to shore.
The storm ended and the sea was calm once again.
Seth laid on the shore with Caleb, still unconscious from the whole ordeal. Seth knew he was at risk of being seen, but he took that chance to make sure the human was okay. Seth wasn't sure how to know if humans were okay from drowning, he had always watched from afar. This is his first time being close to a human. Although, the situation is dire, Seth couldn't help but find Caleb's up close appearance charming in a sort of way.
"Sweet Neptune, what a storm!" Marcus cawed as he circled and landed next to Seth on the shore. Slowly eyeing the merman's position, the pelican voiced his thoughts aloud, "You are going to be in so much trouble if your father finds out you saved a human!"
"That's the least of my concerns right now, Marcus!" Seth said, "how do we know if he is even okay? I don't know what to do when humans nearly drown to death!"
"Okay, okay," Marcus placated, "from what I have seen, humans usually cough up water after humans kiss them."
"Are you saying I need to kiss him?" Seth weirdly stated.
"Oh no," Marcus dismissed, "I have also seen humans put their hands together and press on the chest of humans. That appears way more effective."
Seth bit his lip at the idea, before coming to a better solution. "Since they cough up water, maybe I could use some Atlantean magic." Seth knew a few studies of Atlantean magic, most commonly water magic. Concentrating, Seth was able to sense water in Caleb's lungs and manipulate it to the point it all exited his mouth. Caleb began to cough a bit before breathing at a regular rate, much to the relief of the merman and pelican. The human prince was alive but still had his eyes closed.
"Whew! Glad that worked," Marcus admitted. "Me too," Seth added, "Scout the area, hopefully there are other humans around." Marcus nodded and took off in the air.
Seth remain stationed near the unconscious prince. Seth blushed at feeling his skin, his hair, his face. Being up close with humans was a new experience for the merman. "You are so handsome..." Seth commented as he slowly caressed his check and began to sing a little melody.
"What would I give
To live where you are?
What would I pay
To stay here beside you?
What would I do to see you
Smiling at me?
Where would we walk?
Where would we run?
If we could stay all day in the sun?
Just you and me
Wish I could be
Part of your world"
The sun began to appear and casted light onto the two princes. Caleb began to stir slowly.
The voice he had heard at sea had returned and appears to have saved him. The voice was so beautiful to him. Caleb's grogginess caused him to make out his mysterious savior, but he couldn't recall the details. All he could make out was a person with a cyan and green necklace in a purple shirt and black hair with a faint blue streak. Caleb unintentionally reached for the hand that was currently against his cheek, almost never wanting to let it go.
"CALEB!"
Seth flinched at the risk of being discovered and made haste, leaving Caleb dazed until Alex and Zoe ran over to their friend and owner respectively. The German Shepherd immediately started to lick Caleb out of share delight before his attention was turned to the retreating tail fin she saw dive in. Alex, on the other hand, aided Caleb to his feet, slowly but surely.
"Caleb! Oh, thank goodness, you're alright! We saw a pelican that led us over to you!" said Alex who embraced him in a hug, "You gave everyone quite a scare back there."
"Someone... saved me," Caleb managed to say. "They had the most wonderful voice." Caleb walked a bit before stumbling as Alex caught him. "I think you have swallowed enough seawater," Alex said, "We should take you back to the mansion. Zoe, come along now!"
Zoe ceased her barking as she was slowly in the tide and ran back to the humans while Caleb began to think of nothing but the person who saved him and their voice.
The retreating land based creatures were being watched by Seth, Breanna, Haven, and Josh.
Josh had seen the whole scenario and was going on a rant about not mentioning this to Poseidon. He knew information like this would cause an ocean-wide tsunami that would rage nonstop. His panicking attitude gave Haven and Breanna internal headaches that they chose to keep to themselves, but they were shocked at the interaction as well.
"Called it," Haven whispered to the bottlenose who rolled her eyes at the claim but smirked all the same.
Seth, meanwhile, positioned himself on a rock. He kept his gaze on the retreating Caleb, so in love with him. In his head, he could picture himself with Caleb, without or with his fins or Caleb's legs. Just the two of them together. And Seth sang with such promise in the next verse.
"I don't know when
I don't know how
But I know something's starting right now
Watch and you'll see
Someday I'll be
Part of your World!"
"Ahahahahahaha!" Addison cackled from his lair. Thanks to Terry and Jonathan, the sea warlock had seen the whole display and his plan was soon coming together.
"Oh Seth, you poor lovestruck fool. You're making it too easy for me!" Addison said before acting aloud, "You have fallen for human! And not just some human, a prince! Oh, dear old daddy will just love that!" Addison began to make his way over to his "garden."
Addison's mind began to plan the next stage to gain the throne. Everything was coming together. "And who knows made he would make fine addition to my garden," Addison said aloud as the his "garden" began to scurry to the best of their ability. The garden was a manifestation of his "paying" costumers who came to him for help. The sea warlock continued to laugh before going to his cauldron and watch the merman prince.
One way or another, this merman would lead Addison to the trident.
