3. Chapter 3

Chapter 3.

16 years later.

(Scott POV)

Chloe and I woke up too knocking on the door. I got up as Chloe was grabbing her Tracksuit bottoms and top back on since Chloe couldn't sleep with all of it on and only trusted me near her.

"I'm Coming," I said.

Then I went over and opened the door. Then Tess walks in and Pours herself a whiskey.

"How was your morning? Want one?" Tess said.

"No. I don't want one," I said. As Chloe came in.

"Chloe," Tess said.

"No. Don't want one either," Chloe said.

"Well, I have some interesting news for you 2," Tess said.

"Where were you Tess?" I said.

"West End District. Hey we had a drop to make," Tess said.

"We. We had a drop to make," Chloe said.

"Yeah, Well. You 2 said you wanted to be left alone, Remember?" Tess said.

Then I saw her face wound as she dabs it with a rag.

"So I'll take one guess. The whole deal went south and the client made off with our pills. Is that about right," I said.

"Deal went off without a hitch. Enough ration cards to last us a couple of months. Easy," Tess said.

"Want to explain this," Chloe said.

"I was on my way back here and I got jumped by these 2 assholes. Alright? Yeah they got a few good hit in. But look I managed," Tess said.

"Gimme that," I said taking the rag and started to clean the wound.

"Are these assholes still with us?" Chloe said.

"Now that's funny," Tess said.

"Did you find out who they were?" I said.

"Yeah look they were a couple of nobodies. They don't matter. What matters is that Robert fucking sent them," Tess said.

"Robert," I said.

"Our Robert?" Chloe said.

"He knows that we're after him. He figures he's gonna get us first," Tess said.

"That son of a bitch. He's smart," I said.

"No he's not smart enough. I know where he's hiding," Tess said.

"Like hell you do," Chloe said.

"Old warehouse in area 5. Can't say for how long though," Tess said.

I looked at Chloe who nodded. "We're ready now," I said.

"Oh. I can do now," Tess said.

"Let's go then," Chloe said.

Then we walk outside.

"The checkpoint's still open," Tess said.

"Only got a few hours left until curfew," Chloe said.

"We better hurry up then," Tess said.

Then we started walking onto the street.

Then the loudspeaker went.

"Attention. Citizens are required to carry a current ID at all times. Compliance with all city personnel is mandatory," It said.

Then we came up on the ration line which was still closed.

"Look at that. Ration line hasn't opened yet. Must be running low again," Tess said.

They we pass by it and saw some people getting arrested.

"Seems like more people are gettin' infected," Tess said.

"That just means more people are sneakin out," Chloe said.

Then I saw a friends near by.

"S'up, Scott," He said.

"Nothing," I said.

"Chloe," He said.

"Hey Walt," Chloe said.

"Hear they took Marianne?" Walt said.

"What happened," Jane said Walt's daughter from a family friend who wanted to have a kid but Walt was the only one who could help her.

"Snatched her in the middle of the night. Said she was a Firefly. Can you believe that shit?" Walt said.

"Better not mention the Fireflies too loudly Dad. You don't want the wrong person hearing you," Jane said.

"Yeah. You're probably right," Walt said.

Then we continue to the checkpoint. Once we got close enough to the checkpoint.

"I got us all new papers they shouldn't give us any static yp there. Just play it cool," Tess said.

"We always do," Chloe said.

"Let me see your ID's," A guard said.

"There you go," I said passing them Tess, Chloe and Mine.

"What's your business here?" He said.

"Got the day off visiting a friend," I said.

"Alright, Move on through," He said.

"Thanks," I said.

Then we started to walk through and then an Explosion on the truck that passed us before blow up.

"Oh Shit," Tess said.

"Get outta here, Go! Close it up," He said. Then shuts the checkpoint. "Fireflies. Fuckin' shoot 'em. They running! Call for back up."

"Scott, Chloe, Come on, Let's get outta here. Let's go. C'mon," Tess said.

"Goddamn Fireflies," the guard said.

"Attention Checkpoint 5 is now closed until further notice. All civilians must clear the surrounding area immediately," The loudspeaker said.

Then we got near an apartment which had another way out.

"Looks like the coast is clear. C'mon," Tess said.

Then we headed in.

"Fuck. So much for the easy route. Patch yourselves up alright," Tess said Passing both me and Chloe Then we nursed up our minor injuries even though we were both werewolves. But it was best people don't know that. "They're gonna close all the checkpoints. We're gonna have to go around the outside," As we catched up.

"Outside the wall?" I said.

"Or we could just let Robert go," Tess said.

"Cute," Chloe said.

"Hey Tess, you see that shit," Kyle said.

"I was there," Hey how's the east tunnel looking?" Tess said.

"It's clear, I just used it. No patrols. Where you off to?" Kyle said.

"Gonna pay Robert a visit," Tess said.

"You too?" Kyle said.

"Who else is looking for him?" Chloe said.

"Uh. Merlene? She's been asking around trying to find him," Kyle said.

"Merlene. What do the fireflies want with Robert?" Tess said.

"You think she'd tell me," Kyle said.

"What did you tell her?" Chloe said.

"The truth. I got no idea where he's hiding," Kyle said.

"Good man. Hey you stay outta trouble, Alright? Military's gonna be out in force soon," Tess said.

"Yeah. See you around," Kyle said.

Then we headed on towards the east tunnel.

"Merlene lookin' for Robert? What do you make of that?" Tess said.

"I don't like it," I said.

"We better find him before the fireflies do," Chloe said.

Then we entered where the east tunnel was.

"This is us," Tess said.

"Hey Guys Hows it going?" Miles said.

"Shits stirring up out there. How are we looking here?" Tess said.

"It's been quiet. No signs of Military or Infected," Miles said.

"That what I like to hear," Tess said.

Then Tess moved over to a TV stand which needed moved. "Scott give me a hand," She said and I went over and moved it.

Then Tess jumped down.

"You're next Chlo," I said. Then Chloe jumped down. Then I jumped down last.

"Agh, this place reeks they need to watch what they throw away down here," Tess said. Turning on the generated. "Let there be light. Let's grab our gear. Our backpacks are still here from last time,"

Then we went to the workbench and Chloe and I geared up. "Not a lot of Ammo," Chloe said.

"Well make your shots count," Tess said.

"Chloe let's go," I said going over the the wall and got her and Tess over then Chloe got me up then into an old shop. Then we pulled the cover over the hidden exit again. "Be careful," I said.

"When I am not?" Tess said.

"That's a trick question?" Chloe said.

Then we walk out into the overgrown abandoned suburb.

"Ain't been out here in a while," I said.

"It's like we're on a date," Tess said.

"Well I'm the romantic type," I said.

"You got your ways," Tess said.

"Yeah will don't try it," Chloe said. "Where's the damn ladder?"

"It's gotta be around here somewhere," I said then moved over to a garage and saw it. "Got it," I said grabbing it.

"Great. Bring it over," Tess said.

Then I moved it over and placed it down. "Ladies first," I said.

"Lady? You must be thinking of someone else," Tess said heading up.

"No, He meant me," Chloe said getting up next.

"It's all relative," I said.

Then I climb up into the old apartment complex.

"This way. Down through here. You think Robert's still got our guns?"

"For his sake," I said.

"He better," Chloe said.

"Look once we get our merchandise back, It should be easy to unload," Tess said.

"Hold up, I'm going to check this room out," Chloe said heading in then coming back out then we headed on down.

"Speaking of merchandise, when's the next shipment due?" I said.

"Well, we're meeting Bill next month, more pills, lots of ammo, supposedly," Tess said.

"Yeah, well he always shows up with something. Should keep us busy for a while," I said.

"Hold up, Spores," Chloe said. Then we pulled out our gas masks and put them on.

"Where the hell are all these coming from? Place was clear last time," I said.

"They're coming outta something, Stay alert," Tess said.

Then I found an infected corpse in a far corner. "There's our culprit," I said.

"Body's not that old. Better keep your eyes and ears open," Tess said.

"We should be able to fit through here," I said then pulled a piece of wood in the way and the roof partially collapses. "Oh shit," I said.

"Dad, you okay," Chloe said.

"Yeah, Damn ceiling's falling apart. Be careful. This way. Easy," I said then I found an infected person trapped by the rubble. He reaches out to us. "Jesus, Watch it," I said as Chloe came through then Tess.

"Help me. My mask broke. Don't leave me to turn please," He said.

"What you want to do?" Tess said.

I saw some ammo next to the person and grabbed it and fill up the mag with the ammo. Then left him.

"Come back, Don't leave me like this, Come back," He said.

Then we kept going and Searching the rooms then moved on ahead where we heard a noise.

"Up ahead, you hear that," Tess said.

"Shh," Me and Chloe said.

Then Chloe and I used our wolf hearing then heard at least 3 infected.

"How you 2 wanna handle it?" Tess said.

"Let's keep it quiet," I said.

Then Chloe, Tess and I went through and got the three dead all quiet.

"Alright that's all of them," Tess said.

"Let's hope so," I said.

"Let's head back into the city," Tess said.

Then we get out of the spore filled building back into the sunlight. Then we took off the gas masks.

"Ahh, Some fresh air. That's the one thing I love about the outside. Fucking hate the smell of the city." Tess said.

"Why don't you ask Bill to get you some of them air fresheners?" Chloe said.

"Hey, If they weren't expired, that'd be a good idea through here," Tess said.

Then we went over and pulled open the pallet hiding an entrance. Then walked through.

"Cover the entrance," Tess said.

"Got it," Chloe said as her and I closed it. Then we headed to the makeshift bridge from before.

"Damn it plank fell," Chloe said.

"I got it, Chloe," I said.

Then I jumped down and passed her it then headed back and got to then as Chloe placed it down.

"Let's move," Tess said.

"Bossy today," Chloe said.

Then we reach a street near their destination Where Tess got a kid to makes sure there was no soldier or Robert's men.

"It's clear. Come on," Tess said after a knock on the window. As Chloe and I grabbed some ammo nearby.

Then we turned and exited the corner apartment. Into a more civilized part of town. An acquaintance called Terence come over to her.

"Hey Tess, Hey Tess, Hey pretty lady how you doing today?" Terence said.

"Not right now Terence," Tess said.

"No, no, It's good," Terence said.

"She said no Terence," I said.

"Okay, I can do that, Don't get all huffy puffy about it," Terence said.

Then we went on Then we got onto a bus and headed through when this guy though it was a good idea to get in my road.

"Where you think you're going?" He said.

"That way now shift it but you end up dead," I said.

"Malick, Sit back down," Tess said.

"Oh sorry, Tess didn't realize you 3 were together. Go head," Malick said.

Then we got through. "Who's that?" I said.

"An old headache, Don't ask," Tess said.

Then we to a man standing near a gate and Tess hands him a ration card. "I'm looking for Robert he come through here?"

"Half hour ago. he went back to the wharf. He's there now," He said.

They we get through and get into an encounter some of Robert's goons.

"Here we go, Chloe," I said.

"I know be ready," Chloe said.

"Let us through," Tess said.

"You guys need to turn around and head back if you know what's good for you," The Goon said.

"Our beef isn't with you, We just want Robert. You don't want to do this," Tess said.

"Bitch, I will bash your skull unless you turn around and get your dumb ass outta here," The same goon said.

"Fuck this," Tess said. Then shoots him in the face.

"Take cover," The 2nd one said.

"You ready?" Tess said.

"Yeah, Chloe," I said.

"Already on it," Chloe said.

"I'm gonna fuckin kill you!" the 3rd goon said.

"I'll cover you 2, Get the angle on them," Tess said.

Then I got over to some cover on my left and Chloe and I shoot them in the head. Then reload to get a fully loaded mag in our pistols.

"Nicely done, Texas," Tess said.

"You too, How the hell did he get all these guys?" I said.

"If Robert's good at one thing, it's writing blank checks. Let's go put an end to that. Shit. Not going through here. Hey. Boost me up," Tess said.

But I get Chloe up then her and Chloe got me up. We get passed the locked stairway and find more of those bastards. As we got into cover.

"More of Robert's guys," Tess said

"Shit," I said.

"We see them," Chloe said.

"How do you know they're coming," He said.

"2 of ours guys died trying to take Tess out. I guarantee that she and Scott and that Daughter of his are on their way, Right now, to get Robert," One of the said.

"Jesus, We shouldn't have taken this job," the other one said.

"Not our call, Let's spread out and make sure no one's creeping around here," He said.

Then Chloe and I take them out and then there was 2 more inside.

"I meant to tell you I was down on Jordan street and all these soldiers arrived up with a group of about 5 civs all in handcuffs,"

"Let me guess Fireflies,"

"Yup, They lined them up against the wall and Bang, Bang, Bang, They just executed all of them,"

"Holy Shit,"

"Yeah, I hear it's like that all over the city. they're cracking down hard on them,"

"I got a cousin with them,"

"Seriously?"

"Yeah, Idiot thinks he's gonna save the world. Hope he's alright," They said. Then Chloe and I took them out too. then found a key on one of them which opened the door where there was more of them. Then Chloe, Tess and I get behind them and killed them all at the same time.

"We shoulda brought more people," Tess said.

"They'd just slow us down," I said.

"Dad's right," Chloe said.

"Come on let's do this. Docks are this way," Tess said.

Then we enter the Wharf area and find him.

"There's our boy, That cocky son of a bitch," Tess said.

"Let's go wrap this up," Chloe said.

Then we kill Robert's lackeys and head for Robert's office. Then we opened the do.

"Oh shit. Get back. Get the Fuck back," Robert said. Shooting at us.

"We just wanna Talk Robert," Tess said.

"We ain't got Fucking nothing to talk about," Robert said.

"Put your gun down," Tess said.

"Go Fuck yourself," Robert said as he throw his empty gun and Takes off.

"He's Running," Chloe said.

"ROBERT!" I shouted chasing after him Then we corner him near a fence and he can't jump over it.

"Come on," Robert said.

"Hello Robert," Tess said.

"Tess, Scott, Chloe, No hit feelings, Right," Robert said.

"None at all," Tess said then Robert tries running and Tess get hit knocking him down.

"Goddamnit," Robert said.

"We missed you," Tess said.

"Look whatever it is you heard. It aint true okay? I just want to say," Robert said.

"The Guns, You wanna tell us where the guns are?" Tess said.

"Yeah sure, But It's complicated Alright? Look Alright Just hear me out I gotta," Robert said then Chloe Kicked him in the face. Then I grabbed his arm ready to break it.

"Fuck, Ah stop, Stop, stop," Robert said.

"Quit your squirming. You were saying?" Tess said.

"I sold them," Robert said. "I didn't have much of a choice, I owned someone,"

"You owed us You bet on the wrong horse," Chloe said.

"I just need more time, Just give me a week," Robert said.

"You know I meant of done that if you hadn't tried fucking killing me," Tess said.

"Who has our guns," Chloe said.

Robert tried talking shit so I broke his arm.

"Who has our guns," Tess said.

"It's the Fireflies. I owned the Fireflies," Robert said.

"What?" Tess said.

"Look, they're basically all dead. we can just go in there, finish them off. What you say. Come on Fuck those fireflies. Let's get get them," Robert said.

"That is a stupid Idea," Tess said before shot him in the face.

"Now what?" Chloe said.

"We go get out merchandise back," Tess said.

"How," I said.

"I don't know. We explain it to them. Let's go find a firefly," Tess said.

"You wouldn't have to look very far," Merlene said.

"There you go, Queen Firefly," I said.

"Why are you here?" Merlene said.

"Business, You aren't lookin so hot," Tess said.

"Where's Robert?" Marlene said.

Tess moves out of the way letting her see him.

"I needed him alive," Marlene said.

"The guns he gave you they weren't his to sell, I want them back," Tess said.

"Doesn't work like that," Marlene said.

"The Hell it doesn't," Chloe said.

"I paid for those guns. You want them back, You gonna have to earn them," Marlene said.

"How many card are we talking about?" Tess said.

"I don't give a damn about ration cards. I need something smuggled out of the city, You do that. I'll give you your guns and then some," Marlene said.

"How do we know you got them?" Chloe said.

"Way I hear it the military has been wiping you out," I said.

"You're right about that. I'll show you the weapons," Marlene said.

"Search the Area," Soldier said.

"Yes, Sir," Another one said.

"I gotta move. What's it gonna be," Marlene said.

"I wanna see those guns," Tess said.

"Follow me," Marlene said then we got out of there and up and ladder to the top of the building when another explosion happen.

"Holy shit," I said.

"Was that you people," Tess said.

"What's left of them. Why do you think I'm turning to you guys, This way," Marlene said then we got into the a warehouse and found some parts upgrade my guns so I grabbed then they jumped in.

"We've been quiet. Been planning on leaving the city but they need a scapegoat. They've been trying to rile us up," Marlene said.

"Looks like they did," Chloe said.

"We're trying to defend ourselves. Scott, Give me a hand with this," Marlene said helping her open a door.

"Hey how you holding up?" Tess said.

"I'll live," Marlene said.

Then we found a guarded bridge.

"Hold up soldier, That's the way out The door under the bridge," Marlene said.

"Ain't a big fan of these odds," I said.

"We can sneak by them, even though I know that's not your style," Marlene said.

"We'll see how it goes. Let's get moving," Tess said.

Then we eliminate all of the guards on top and beneath the bridge then go into the room underneath the bridge and into the room and sealed the door so no one could follow us.

"Where are we going Marlene?" Tess said.

"This way. It's not far now," Marlene said.

"How you holding up?" Tess said.

"I'm running on Fumes. But I make it, The place is right up ahead," Marlene said.

"Attention. Curfew is now in full effect. Anyone caught outside without the proper authorization will be arrested and prosecuted," Loudspeaker said.

"Shit. We need to hurry," Tess said.

"What the hell are we smuggling?" Chloe said.

"I'll show you. Scott, Give me a hand with this," Marlene said after we entered a warehouse and I had to help her open the door and Marlene stumbles.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, Come on, Get up," I said.

"Get the fuck away from her?" A Girl with red hair showed up and She had a knife where Chloe grabbed her arm.

"Drop it," Chloe said.

"Let her go," Marlene said.

"You're recruiting kind of young aren't ya? I said.

"She's not one of mine," Marlene said.

"Oh shit," She said. "What happened?"

"Don't worry. This is fixable. I got us help But I can't come with you," Marlene said.

"Then I'm staying." She said.

"Ellie, We we won't get another shot at this," Marlene said.

"Hey. We're smuggling her?" I said.

"There's a crew of fireflies that'll meet you at the Capitol building," Marlene said.

"That's not exactly close," Tess said.

"You're capable. You had her off, come back the weapons are yours. Double what Robert sold me," Marlene said.

"Speaking of which where are they?" Tess said.

"Back in our camp," Marlene said.

"We're not smuggling shit until I see them," Tess said.

"You'll follow me. You can verify the weapons, I can get patched up. But she's not crossing to that part of town. I want Scott and Chloe to watch over her," Marlene said.

"Whoa, whoa, I don't think that's the best idea," Both of us said.

"Bullshit! I'm not going with them," Ellie said.

"Ellie," Marlene said.

"How do you know them?" Ellie said.

"I was close with his brother, Stiles. Said If I was ever in a jam I could rely on him," Marlene said.

"What that before or after he left your fucking little militia group?" I said.

"he left you too, he was a good man," Marlene said.

"Good men don't leave family behind," Chloe said.

"Look just take her to the north tunnel and wait for me there," Tess said.

"Jesus Christ," I said.

"She's just Cargo, you 2," Tess said.

"Marlene," Ellie said.

"No more talking. You'll be fine. Now go with them," Marlene said.

"Don't take long," Chloe said.

"And you stay close," I said.

Then we set off and find Firefly corpses.

"Whoa I heard all the shooting. But What happened," Ellie said.

"The Fireflies. Same thing's gonna happen to us if we don't get off the street," I said.

"You 2 are the pros. I'm just following you," Ellie said.

"Attention. Harbouring or aiding wanted criminals is punishable by death. Do not place yourself at risk. Report any suspicious activity immediately," Loudspeaker said.

"Down here," Chloe said. Then we take a small stairwell next to the street.

"Come on, Keep up," I said.

"I am," Ellie said.

"I hate this shit," I said. They we had to get a dustbin to get up to the ledge and into an deserted apartment.

"Where are we going?" Ellie said.

"In here, It will get us to the north tunnel," I said.

"This tunnel you use it to smuggle things?" Ellie said.

"Yep," Chloe said.

"Like Illegal things?" Ellie said.

"Sometimes," Chloe said.

"You ever smuggle a kid before?" Ellie said.

"No that's a First so what's the deal with you and Marlene anyways?" I said.

"I don't know she's my friend I guess," Ellie said.

"Your friend huh? You're friends with the leader of the Fireflies what're you like 12," I said.

"My mum asked her to look after me and I'm 14 not that that has to do with anything," Ellie said.

"So where are your parents?" Chloe said.

"My Mum's Dead. Only thing I got is a waterproof Book she left," Ellie said. "I don't know who my Dad is. Mum never said. Thinking he was dead,"

"Hm, So instead of just staying in school you decide to run off and join the Fireflies is that it?" I said.

"Look. I'm not supposed to tell you why you're smuggling me. If that's what you're getting at," Ellie said.

"You wanna know the best thing about this job. I don't gotta know why. Be honest I could give 2 fucking shits about what you're up to," I said.

"Well Great," Ellie said.

"Good," I said. Then got to the end of the corridor and opened the door where the North Tunnel is and went in and Cleared the sofa and laid down as Ellie and Chloe came in and Chloe closed the door.

"What are you doing?" Ellie said.

"Killing time," I said.

"Well, What am I supposed to do?" Ellie said.

"I'm sure you will figure that out," I said.

"Your watch is broken," Ellie said.

I just let a chuckle out before falling sleep.

(Chloe POV)

Dad was just asleep and I when and grabbed everything from the safe we built in grabbing all the ammo and the Sabres that Dad and Mum found when they were with Atlantis. Which was before they had me and Sarah. I miss my sister. But at least I have dad still even when Uncle Stiles left us. We were meant to be pack.

Once finished, I found Ellie just looking out the window. So I grabbed the seat near Dad and sat down.

"You said your mum left you a book did she not say who your Father was," I said.

"Just that he was a smuggler before she left. But I never really started reading it fully. Just reading it whenever I can," Ellie said.

"Did it say anything else," I said.

"Only that they met back in High school before any of this shit. Maybe he is out there somewhere," Ellie said.

"Who knows," I said.

Then I just sat there looking out.

(Scott POV)

I wake up later and found that it was night time and raining. Then Saw both Ellie and Chloe looking out a window.

"You mumble in your sleep I hate bad dreams," Ellie said.

"Yeah me too," I said.

"You know. I've never been this close. To the outside. Look how dark it is. Can't be any worse out there. Can it," Ellie said.

"What on Earth do the Fireflies want with you?" I said Then the door open and Tess shoes up.

"Hey, Sorry it took so long Soldiers fuckin' everywhere," Tess said.

"How's Marlene?" Ellie said.

"She'll make it. I saw the Merchandise. It's a lot. Wanna do this," Tess said.

"Yeah," I said.

"Let's go," Tess said.

"Don't you think it's a bit strange that they're asking us to do they smuggling?" I said.

"Marlene wanted to do it herself. We weren't the first or second choice for that matter. She's lost a lot of men. Beggars can't be choosers," Tess said.

"Yeah. Let's just hope there's someone alive to pay us," I said.

"Someone'll be around. Come on," Tess said.

They I start up a Generate to power the small elevator. Then we got on and got it to take us down.

"Who's waiting for us at the drop off," Chloe said.

"She said there's some Fireflies that have travelled all the way from another city. Girl must be important. What is the deal with you? You some bigwig's daughter or something?" Tess said.

"If everything goes as planned, we should get you to them in a few hours. Ellie, Once we get out there, I need you to follow our lead and stay close," Tess said.

"Yeah, Of course," Ellie said.

They we make it to the Outskirts Entrance.

"Climb up and check if the coast is clear," Tess said.
