Allie Fonata: Amidst The Ruin: The Third Quarter Quell

Amy Fonata snuggled close to Sophia, her eyes closed as tears fall from her eyes. She couldn't believe it. How can her sister, so brave and so strong, died in the Bloodbath. Why must the world be so cruel to them? What did they ever do wrong? Sophie wrapped her arms tighter around her younger sister. Their mother and father couldn't stand it, both of them in their room with the door shut tightly.

Amy cried even more thinking about the scene. She could never get the image out of her mind. Her older sister, her family, her best friend, her everything. Sophia rubbed her back gently. Her mind, without her permission, flashed back to her sister's last word and last breath.

Allie rushed forward, her eyes scanning the surroundings as she grabbed for the bow and arrow. Along the way, she grabbed the two hunting knives she saw on the ground, not passing it up. She quickly swung the quiver of arrows over her shoulder as she ran toward the forest. But trouble follows her around, it always does.

Lazarus, the boy from district 2, ran toward her. Allie's eyes widened as she made a run for it. Yet, there's nothing to be said. She knows she was dead the second she would be in the arena. She knew she wouldn't last long. She thought of her family, her sisters. What would Amy do without her? When could she ever see her bright smile again? She thought about Sophia. How much they bickered when they were little over small things.

Everything little moments because a lifetime for Allie now. If she would die, Allie thought to herself. She would die fighting. She wouldn't die so quickly.

Her bow was instantly notched with an arrow and she fired it at the boy in front of her. But that wasn't enough. Her hands went to her hunting knives and she held them up in front of her. Lazarus langued forward and Allie pushed him back with her two hunting knives. She stabbed forward, her hunting knives going through his armpit though. He has more training them I did, I mean, I have no training at all, she thought to herself, knowing she was fighting a worthless battle. She would die soon, she knows that.

She took a deep breath and lunged forward, but Lazarus was faster, his sword slammed into her chest. Allie gasped at the sudden pain and time seems to slow as she started falling backward. She landed on the floor with a "thud". But he wasn't done yet. She felt a weapon landing on the side of her skull and she was out cold, dead. She knew she's dead.

Or she would die soon. She dreamed of her father, her mother, her sisters. What might they be feeling right now? She knew Amy would be crying, Sophia would try to act strong, and her parents. Her parents, she took a raspy breath, her parents would lock themselves in their room and they might not come out ever again. That's what they did when their grandparents died. She took her final breath, her eyes closing for the final time. She saw stars, her arms wanted to reach for it, she's a dreamer, she would live. But no, she wouldn't. She laid still, unmoving. Never to see the smiling face of her family again, died in the games, but forever forgotten. She's just the "girl that died in the Bloodbath".

Amy opened her eyes again as tears fall like waterfall down her cheek. A knocked on their door brought Sophia to her sense again. She stood up and opened the door slowly. Johana stood on the other side with a sad smile. "Can I come in?"

"Of course," Sophia wiped a tear away. "Right this way."

"I'm sorry," Johana cried softly. "It's all my fault."

Sophia wrapped her cousin up in a hug. Amy looked up and snuggled close to her. "No one could prevent it."

"But if I didn't win, your sister wouldn't have died," she cried out. "Her funeral would be tomorrow-"

Amy closed her eyes again as Sophia hugged both of them close. "We'll get through it. Somehow..."

Yet, tomorrow came faster than ever. Amy couldn't look at her sister's lifeless face. The face that used to smiled at her every day. The voice that always encourages her. The sister who was always there for her. Yet when she's needed, Amy couldn't be there. She wiped away her ever falling tears.

"I'm sorry it has to end this way," Johana sighed as they watched the people buried Allie deep underground. It's sad, seeing as how she never like close space, she never likes the underground either. And now she's stuck there for the rest of her... afterlife. Their parents started looking at the letters Allie had written before she went into the games. The funeral would be later today, right now, they're just burying Allie into a tight space.

"It's... a list, and a recording," Sophia mumbled as she opened the last letter with no name on it.

"What does it said?" Their mother asked, their father peered over Sophia's shoulder.

Sophia started reading aloud. "I know I'll die in the bloodbath, I have a feeling. Those careers set their eyes on me already. I'm sorry about this. I want to come home safely, and I promise I'll try. But I know I can't. This will be the final goodbye.

I don't want you guys to worry, I heard people said heaven is nice. Or I might make it to the isle of the best if this is my third life. Who knows? Anyway, I want something different in my funeral. I want it to be more special.

I want you to wear green, the color of life instead of black, the color of death. I want you to put on a brave face, I'm looking at you, Amy. And remember, I'll always be there for you, watching over you guys. I want you to plant a willow tree in our backyard, a reminder of all the times we have spent together as a family under the willow trees deep in the meadow. I will always look out for you guys, deep in your heart, I will always be there.

I made a song for your guys as well, something to remember me by.

Allie."

The family was a crying mess by the end of the letter, but they honor Allie's wish. Later on, they wore green instead of black, and their family planted a willow tree the second they got home. To their surprise, a small green leave appeared the second it touched water. The family smiled sadly, knowing what Allie said is true, that she will always be there in their heart.

And during the funeral, Amy put on a brave face, although it requires her to have a handkerchief at hand as she wiped her tears away every few seconds. They got home and turned on the recording, listening to Allie's bright and sad voice.

"Two thousand four hundred forty-eight miles,

The capitol never looks so far away.

Two thousand four hundred forty-eight trials,

There are so many dangers, standing in my way.

I already know it, I'll probably blow it,

But I'm going there anyway."

Amy and Sophia hugged each other tighter. They all know, she had no choice.

They wiped away another tear and they listen as Allie described what she's feeling in the capitol.

The world might forget her, but deep in her family's heart, she is always there.
