Chapter 11:
"Buck, have you talked to Andy lately?" Hen asked as soon as the firefighter sat at the breakfast table.
Buck let out a huff. "Wouldn't that be nice."
It had been weeks since Buck saw Andy walk away with Diego. It was the same number of weeks that Buck had barely heard a peep from her.
"What does that mean?" Bobby asked.
"I've barely spoken to her in weeks. When I text her, it takes days for her to respond, and when she does it's short one-word answers. When I call, she never answers." Buck finished, exasperated.
"Yeah, that's the same thing I got." Hen said. "I texted her a couple of days ago asking her how nursing school was going because I know she started last week, and she has yet to respond."
Each member of the 118 had worried expressions upon revealing their friend's unusual behavior.
"Chris FaceTimed her the other day and she answered." Eddie piped up.
"Yeah?" Buck questioned.
"Yeah, but come to think of it, she did seem kind of rushed, like she was worried someone would catch her or something. She did promise Chris a play date with Blu, but she never specified the time or day."
"See that's what I mean, she's been MIA for weeks now. Ever since she started dating Diego." Buck stated.
The rest of the firefighters gave each other knowing looks. It was no secret to them that Buck didn't like Diego and they knew it was because Buck was in love with Andy, but he was to thick headed to admit it or do anything about it. Eddie in particular knew how Buck felt about Andy, considering he told him about what happened the night of Andy's birthday party. Oh, he remembered that day well, if there ever was a facepalm moment that day was it.
9-1-1~*~9-1-1
Weeks earlier:
"Man, what is wrong with you?" Eddie asked Buck.
"Huh, what do you mean?" Buck looked at as friend quizzically.
"I mean that you've been distracted. Like something is on your mind. Buck, are you ok?"
Buck sighed. Boy, did he have something on his mind, more like someone.
"Okay. Um…Andy kissed me and told me that she was in love with me."
Eddie's eyebrows went straight up to his hairline.
"Oh my God, finally!" Eddie exclaimed.
Buck furrowed his eyebrows. "What? What do you mean finally?"
"Well, it's kind of obvious that you two are in love with each other."
"Obvious?"
"Yeah, totally transparent." Eddie said, oblivious to Buck's confusion. "Thank God you two are dating now because I don't know if I liked the idea of Andy dating Diego. Call me overprotective, but there's just something I don't like about that guy."
Buck let out a huff of laughter. "You and me both, but sorry to burst your bubble, Andy and I are not dating."
Eddie furrowed his eyebrows. "What? But you said…?
"Andy was drunk." Buck simply stated. "It was the night of her party. Where you and her had one to many tequila shots."
"This isn't about me." Eddie said, with a slight twitch of a smile. "Now get to where you tell me why you and Andy still aren't dating."
"Because she didn't remember that she told me she loved me or that she kissed me. So, I thought that maybe she didn't want to remember. That she was regretting everything. Maybe it wasn't the truth."
Eddie pinched the bridge of his nose. "Dios mío, eres un idiota!" He said as he stood up and threw his hands up in the air. "No sabes qué los borrachos y los niños siempre dicen la verdad!?"
Buck cocked an eyebrow and then narrowed his eyes at his friend. "If you're going to insult me to my face, could you at least do it in English so I can understand."
"I said you're an idiot."
"Yeah, I got that much."
"And I said that drunk people and children always say the truth."
Buck looked at his friend throughly confused. "What!?"
"Nothing…never mind." Eddie said exasperated. "It's a Mexican saying. My point is that Andy was saying the truth. You need to talk to her."
"I don't know man. If it's the truth, then how come she's going on a date with Diego?"
Eddie paused. "Maybe she doesn't think that you feel the same. And you do have a girlfriend."
His best friend had a point. Buck had forgotten that one little detail, Ali. If that was the reason why Andy was staying away, he could understand that and as bad as it sounded, he would leave Ali in a heartbeat for Andy.
"I don't know what I should do."
"You should talk to her."
"But she's been avoiding my calls. She probably regrets saying anything."
Eddie let's out a sigh. "You don't know that, Buck. Maybe she's just busy. She does still have family here from Texas."
"You're right. I just need to talk with her."
His partner nodded his head in agreement and patted his shoulder. They sat in silence for a couple of minutes, Buck wringing his hands together nervously.
"I don't know I don't want to mess things up between us."
"Buck, you won't mess things up between you guys. If anything, I guarantee you'll make things better."
"You think?"
"I know."
"Ok."
They nodded at each other once again, falling into silence. Eddie grabbed the remote and was about to turn on the T.V. so they could relax a bit when Buck blurted out.
"I don't know Eds, what if she regrets it and I ruin everything!?"
Eddie smacked his forehead with the palm of his hand.
"Dios mío, Evan!" Eddie exclaimed as he stood from the couch. "Porqué tienes la cabeza tan dura!? Tú y Andy son un par de tontos. No saben ver lo que tienen en frente."
Eddie walked off passing both Chimney and Hen who had confused looks on their faces.
"Maybe you guys can knock some sense into him." Eddie said as he began to descend the stairs.
"Again, English Edmundo!" Buck yelled after his best friend.
"What the hell was that all about?" Hen questioned.
Buck was about to answer only he was cut off by the alarm blaring. They ran to the trucks and that was the last of that. A few days later Buck was telling them that Andy decided to give Diego a chance.
9-1-1~*~9-1-1
"Come on Buck, don't you think that's a bit of a stretch?" Chimney asked.
"Don't you think it's suspicious that all of a sudden she goes from talking with us all the time and hanging out to hardly seeing us or talking to us since she started dating him?" Buck stated.
Hen leveled him with a stare. "He's her new beau. She's going to want to spend time with him, get to know him." Hen explained.
"Yeah, plus she could be busy." Eddie chipped in. "Hen did just say she started nursing school. So, she has that and work."
Buck shook his head. "This is more than that. I'm fairly sure he has something to do with it."
Hen pinned her friend with a knowing look. "Green isn't a good color on you Buck."
"What are you taking about?"
"She means there's a little green monster that's currently sitting on your shoulder." Chimney piped up.
"You guys think I'm jealous!?" Buck asked incredulously.
Buck looked at every single one of his colleagues that was seated around the table, each one of them looked at him with a raised eyebrow. He had to admit to himself that maybe he was jealous, but deep down inside he knew that something was wrong. That his best friend was in danger. That the woman he loved was in danger.
"So, you're telling us that you aren't slightly hurt that Andy isn't spending as much time with you or talking with you as much, now that she has a new boyfriend?" Chim asked.
The blonde firefighter opened and closed his mouth, a no stuck on the tip of his tongue. But who was he kidding? He wasn't going to lie. He was hurt and jealous that now he was second on Andy's list of important people in her life, maybe even third or fourth when he came to think about it.
"Ok, fine, I'll admit it. I am hurt that I'm not at the top of her list anymore, maybe I miss my best friend."
"Well now I'm hurt that I got demoted." Eddie said jokingly.
Buck gave him an amused look while the rest let out chuckle. Buck placed a hand on Eddie's arm and gave him mock heart eyes.
"You'll always be my number one, Ed's."
Eddie placed a hand upon Bucks and gave him the same mock heart eyes.
"That's all I ever wanted."
"You guys are idiots." Hen said as she threw a piece of muffin at them.
They all laughed before Buck cleared his throat.
"But guys, in all seriousness," Buck began. "Past all the jealousy and hurt, I can't shake the feeling that there's something wrong, that Andy's not okay."
They all settled down and regarded their friend with genuine expressions, noticing that Buck was seriously concerned.
"Okay, how bout' this Buck." Eddie spoke up. "We'll give her a call asking her to cash in on that play date with Chris and you can see her with your own eyes, to give you a little piece of mind."
Buck perked up. "That's a great idea." He said as he slipped his phone out of his pocket. He dialed the number and as he was about to hit the call button the alarm blared throughout the station.
Buck let out a groan and reluctantly put his phone back into his pocket before making his way down to the fire trucks. The phone call would have to wait
9-1-1~*~9-1-1
It was almost an hour later when they pulled back into the fire station. Everyone hopped out of the truck completely exhausted, soot covering there faces. It was a house fire. The house was a total loss, but thankfully everyone had gotten out alive and with only minor smoke inhalation.
Buck cradled his helmet in his arms and peered down into to it, a soft smile spreading across his face. Eddie simply frowned at him and shook his head.
"What?" Buck questioned.
"You're lucky Cap didn't kill you."
"Come on Eds, I saw movement in the corner of the room. I had to check; it could have been another person."
"Cap said everyone was accounted for and he ordered us to get out because the structure was unsafe."
Buck looked at him sheepishly. "I know, I know, but then we wouldn't have been able to save this little guy." He gestured towards his helmet.
Eddie looked down and a pair of blue beady eyes looked back at him, a small 'meow' coming out of Bucks helmet. Eddie reached in and gently scratched the head of the small kitten.
"He's so cute, isn't he?" Buck asked excitedly.
The kitten was mostly black in color aside from a small patch of white fur on his chest and his white paws, making it look like he had a tuxedo on. Eddie wasn't much of a cat person, but he had to admit that the little guy was indeed quite cute.
"So cute that you almost had a house collapse on top of you." Bobby piped up behind Buck, fixing his youngest firefighter with a stern look.
"Bobby, I'm sorry, I really…"
Cap halted Buck's apology with a raised hand. "I know Buck I understand, but that doesn't mean that you can disobey a direct order. Just stop trying to give me an aneurysm."
Another little 'meow' come from the helmet.
"I think he agrees." Cap said.
They all laughed.
"Now everyone, get cleaned up, including that little guy Buck." Bobby said. "I'll get a snack going."
A chorus of 'got it Cap' echoed throughout the apparatus floor. Within no time everyone was washed up and gathered around the table munching away on some cut up fruits and veggies. Buck, however, was thoroughly entranced with bottle feeding his latest rescue.
"So, what are you naming him?" Hen asked. "Cause I'm assuming that your keeping him?"
When Buck had rescued the kitten, they had learned that the family had found a litter of kittens under their porch, and that they believed the momma had been killed because they hadn't seen her come back for almost two days, so they took them in. They had found the rest of the litter good homes, but they had yet to find the last kitten one. And now with their home brunt to the ground, there was no way they were going to be able to keep him because the aunt they were going to stay with was allergic to cats.
"I don't know." Buck responded. "I think I might. Cats are pretty self dependent so it wouldn't be much of an issue when I'm on shift."
"Well, whatever you decide that cute little fur-ball is lucky you found him."
They finished up their snack and now they found themselves lounging around. Buck and Eddie currently sitting on the couch surfing channels on the T.V. trying to find something to watch, the kitten happily purring in Buck's lap.
"Hey, did you ever call Andy?" Eddie asked.
"Damn, I forgot. With the call and everything, I got distracted." He said and then pulled his cell out his pocket. "I'll FaceTime her right now."
Buck didn't have to wait long because Andy picked up on the second ring, her face popping up on the screen.
"Hey, Buck." Andy greeted with a bright smile.
"Hey, beautiful." Buck greeted back and then he took in her uniform. "Oh, I'm sorry, are you at work?"
"Yeah, I am, but it's okay you had perfect timing. I'm on my break." Andy replied as she popped a chip in her mouth.
"I'm sorry can you chew a little quieter? I'm trying to listen to the T.V." Eddie joked.
"Maybe try turning up the volume, Edmundo." Andy retorted.
"I don't know if the volume will go up high enough to drown out your obnoxious chewing, Andrea." Eddie shot back.
"Then maybe you need hearing aids old man."
Eddie gasped and placed a hand over his chest, in mock horror. "That was a low blow. You know what? Forget it. Don't invite her Buck. She doesn't deserve to see the surprise."
Buck chuckled at his best friend's bickering back in forth.
"Surprise? What surprise?"
"No, nope, you don't get it now." Eddie said.
Andy scowled at him. "No seas dramático."
"Says the queen of drama."
"Whatever. What's the surprise?"
"Buck here got a new roommate." Eddie said as he pointed his thumb towards his friend.
"You did!?"
"I sure did." Buck answered with a huge smile.
"Where's he gonna sleep? Do you have space at your loft?"
"He doesn't take up to much space. And he might sleep with me. I don't know, I haven't really decided yet."
"Sleep with you?" Andy questioned. "And how does Ali feel about this?"
Eddie snorted.
"I haven't told her yet."
Andy's eyebrows shot up to her hairline. "I see."
Buck was having way to much fun with this.
"Listen why don't you come over to Eddie's on Saturday? Bring Blu so Chris can have some play time with him, and you can meet my new roommate, and have some lunch. Around noon?"
Andy's bright smile instantly fell from her face, and Buck noticed. Everything was going fine until he suggested that they got together.
"Umm…I uh…I don't…" Andrea stuttered.
"What is it?" Buck asked. "Are you busy Saturday? We can change the day or the time if that's the issue."
Andy kept her eyes casted downward, seeming not to make eye contact with her friends. Buck noticed that she seemed nervous, going by how she compulsively kept wringing her hands together.
"No, no, that's not the problem." Andy said quietly.
"We've barely seen you in weeks, Andy. We miss you."
"I miss you guys too." Andy said softly, a sorrowful tone in her voice.
"Then what's the problem?" Buck asked
Andrea let out a sigh and pinched the bridge of her nose. "There's no problem. It's fine. I'll see you guys on Saturday."
"Andy…" Buck started.
"Hey listen," Andy interrupted. "My break is almost over; I should finish up so I can get back. It was so good to talk to you guys."
"Yeah of course. It was good talking with you too. Bye Andy."
"Bye Buck. Bye Eddie."
"Bye, Flaca"
And with that the line went dead. Buck stayed silent for a minute before dropping his hand back down to his side, phone clutched tightly in his hand.
"Tell me that you saw that?" Buck said as he turned to look at his partner. "Tell me that you saw how her whole demeanor completely changed when we asked her to come over, that it wasn't just me?
Eddie let out a deep sigh. "No, it wasn't just you. I saw it to."
"It's like she became this shy, scared person. And she became evasive when I asked her if there was a problem."
"Tell you what," Eddie said. "How about we tag team her when she comes over on Saturday? See what we can get out of her?"
"I like that idea."
They weren't able to further discuss their plan because the alarm went off again. So, they quickly popped up from the couch, Buck placed the kitten in a box he set up for him and sprinted to the trucks.
9-1-1~*~9-1-1
Saturday finally rolled around, and Buck was a little anxious to say the least. He really wanted to figure out what was wrong with his best friend. Buck arrived at Eddie's house right at 12 o'clock and a few minutes later there was a knock on the door. Eddie chuckled at how fast Buck moved to the door when he heard it. Buck wasn't exactly sure what he felt when he opened the door and saw Andy standing there, relief, happiness, maybe a combination of both. Andy stepped into the threshold and stood in front of Buck.
"Hey Buck." Andy greeted with a smile, eyes glistening with tears that she was trying to hold back.
Buck couldn't hold back any longer. He grabbed Andy by her wrist, pulled her flush against him, and wrapped his arms tightly around her frame. Andy buried her face into Buck's neck, wrapped her arms just as tightly around him, and let out a quiet sob.
"Missed you." Buck whispered.
Andy pulled out of the embrace. "Missed you too." Andy let out a chuckle as she wiped away a tear. "I don't even know why I'm crying"
Buck swiped away a few more stray tears from Andy's cheek with his thumb before placing a kiss upon her forehead and pulling her back into a hug. Behind them Andy heard the familiar clicking of crutches hitting the ground, as if on cue she felt the tug of Blu's leash in her hand.
"Blu!" Christopher squealed in excitement.
Andy loosened her grip on the dog's leash allowing her to trot happily towards Christopher. Buck finally let Andy go so she could kneel where Blu was currently lapping happily at the young boy's face, Chris giggling with glee.
"Hey Superman, I missed you." Andy said as she wrapped him up in her arms.
"I missed you too, Tía. And I missed Blu too."
"Well, she missed you a lot too. And it's Tía now?"
"Mmhmm…Daddy said you were like his annoying little sister so that means that you're my Tía too, just like Tía Sophia and Tía Adriana."
Andy's lips twitched slightly at the snort she heard from behind Christopher, undoubtedly coming from Eddie.
"I like the sound of Tía." Andy said as she placed a soft kiss on the boy's forehead. "Although I'm not to fond of the annoying part." She finished as she stood in front of Eddie.
"Well, I've always made it a point to be honest with my son." Eddie said with a smirk.
Andy punched Eddie's arm. "You are such a jerk." She said as the brunette firefighter pulled her into a hug of his own.
"Hey Eds."
"Hey Flaca. Glad you're here."
"Me too." She responded as she pulled away but kept one arm wrapped around Eddie's waist while he draped his arm around her shoulder. "Okay, so what's this about Buck having a new roommate?"
"He's so cute, Tía!" Chris exclaimed.
Andy furrowed her eyebrows. "Cute?"
"Turn around." Buck instructed. "And cover your eyes."
Andy begrudgingly did as she was told while Buck went to the corner of the room where he had the kitten. He scooped him up in his hands, eliciting a 'meow' from the ball of fur.
"Buck was that a…" Andy began.
"Turn around." Buck ordered with a huge smile.
Andy twirled back around; her hands immediately covered her mouth in shock as she gasped when she saw the small kitten in her friend's hands.
"Oh my God Buck!" Andy squealed.
"Meet Captain Whiskers!"
Andy scooped up the kitten from Buck's hands and instantly cuddled the tiny animal, pressing her nose to its cold wet one. "He's so adorable! Where did you find him?"
Buck and Eddie proceeded to tell her how Buck had ended up with Captain Whiskers, although the story didn't finish without a little berating from Andy for Buck breaking the rules. They sat and played with the new member of the family for a little while. Buck introduced Captain Whiskers to Blu, who instantly took a liking to the small kitten, giving him one large lick across his tiny face.
"How 'bout we get lunch started?" Eddie suggested, throwing Buck a knowing glance, the signal to set their plan in motion.
"That sounds great. I'm starving." Buck said as he placed Captain Whiskers into his box.
"You're always starving." Andy said, poking Buck in his stomach.
"Hey!" Buck chuckled. "I'm a growing boy."
"More like a human garbage disposal." Eddie teased.
"Hey now!"
They all laughed.
"Andy, you wanna help me with the sandwiches?" Eddie asked.
"Umm, yeah sure."
"And Christopher, Blu, and I will be in the back yard." Buck added.
"Come on Blu!" Chris said, already heading towards the back door.
Buck followed enthusiastically behind Christopher while Andy and Eddie headed towards the kitchen. The pair worked in tandem as they moved around the kitchen gathering the ingredients needed to make their lunch.
"So how have you've been Andy?"
Eddie noticed that Andy paused for a bit before answering.
"I've been fine. Been busy. Working as much as I can, as much as nursing school will allow. It's only been a couple of weeks and I feel like it's the end of the semester already."
Eddie chuckled. "Yeah, I can only imagine. But I have faith in you. You're going to be the best nurse."
Andy smiled up at him and bumped her shoulder her with with his. "Thanks Eds."
Eddie went back to spreading Mayo on the bread while Andrea continued slicing some tomatoes. The kitchen was filled with the friend's chatter as they continued to make lunch. They fell into a comfortable silence as Eddie finished the sandwiches and Andy finished chopping up some fruit. Eddie gave Andy a side eye glance before he asked her his next question.
"So, how are things going with Diego?"
The knife slipped out of Andy's grasp as she went to slice another piece of strawberry, barely missing her finger.
"Shoot!" Andy exclaimed.
"Jesus! Are you okay!?" Eddie asked as he grabbed her hands to examine them.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. I missed my finger."
"You have to be more careful lady."
"I know."
"Or was my question too distracting?"
"No, no, umm…ev…everything is going fine." Andy stuttered.
Eddie gave his friend a calculating look. "Are you sure? Because you don't sound like you are."
Andy cleared her throat. "Eddie, I'm sure. I'm fine. Diego is nice. He's very attentive and loving. He's umm…he's protective."
Eddie nodded. "Protective is good, but there is such thing as being overly protective."
"He's not overly protective. He's fine. He's sweet. He's fine."
"It's sounds more like you're trying to convince yourself." Eddie stated.
Andy gave Eddie the best persuasive smile she could conjure up. "Eds, I'm okay. I promise. Now, I need a bowl to put this fruit in."
Eddie pursed his lips at her, not entirely satisfied with her answer. She was clearly deflecting by changing the subject.
"There's a red bowl in that cabinet, right above your head."
Andy turned and opened the cabinet in front of her. She looked up and found the red bowl Eddie was talking about on the topmost shelf. Andy stretched as far as she could, raising slightly on her tiptoes, causing the sleeve of her shirt to slip down some. That's when Eddie saw it.
"What the hell is that!?" Eddie demanded as he grabbed onto Andrea's arm. He raised her sleeve up to her shoulder, exposing an angry looking bruise that covered most of her bicep.
Panic flickered across Andy's face as she looked down at the bruise and back up to Eddie's angry face.
"It's nothing Eds." Andy said as she pulled her arm out Eddie's grasp. "I just had a combative patient the other day and he managed to get a good grip on my arm, that's all."
The Army medic narrowed his eyes at her. "Why don't I believe you?"
"Come on, what else could it be?"
"Not what. Who? Maybe your overly protective boyfriend?"
A flash of fear passed through Andy's eyes, almost too fast for Eddie to catch, she quickly covered it up with a scowl.
"No seas tonto." Andy said. "Everything is fine."
Eddie was about to protest again when Andy cut him off. "I'm gonna go get the boys and tell them that lunch is ready."
The boys and Blu come bustling into the kitchen and as Buck and Chris washed their hands Eddie looked over at Andy with a look that said they weren't done talking about that bruise.
"Come on Chris. I'm starving, how 'bout you?" She asked as she led the boy into the dining room, giving Eddie one last glance.
Buck noticed the looks that his friends were giving each other, and he knew that Eddie had found something out.
"What's going on? Did she tell you something?" Buck asked as soon as both Chris and Andy were out of ear shot.
"More like I found something." Eddie answered.
"Hurry up boys or me and Chris are going to eat all these sandwiches." Andy's voice drifted into the kitchen, interrupting the firefighter's conversation.
"I'll talk with you later." Eddie said before grabbing the fruit bowl and heading out to join his friend and his son.
Buck didn't like the sound of that, making him think that the situation was probably worse than he thought. He let out a sigh and collected himself before heading out to the dining room. The group sat and enjoyed their meal together, soft chatter and laughter flowed between them. After almost an hour they finished and cleaned up their mess. Chris convinced the adults to a game of UNO, to which they quickly agreed to, their competitive sides coming out.
"Draw 4." Buck said quiet smugly as he laid down his card. "And the color is green."
Andy narrowed her eyes at the blonde firefighter. "I hate you." She said as she took four cards from the deck, adding to the already large amount of cards in her hand.
"You just watch Buckley, I'm gonna get my revenge."
"We'll see." Buck said smugly. "Your turn Chris."
Chris smiled brightly, a slight twinkle in his eye. "Sorry, Buck." The boy said as he placed down a green reverse card.
Buck's eyes widened, mouth going wide. "Chris! How could you? I thought we were friends?"
"Thank you, Chris this is why you're the better Diaz."
"Hey!" Eddie protested.
Christopher simply giggled at the adult's banter.
"Traitor." Buck said with a mock glare towards the young boy.
"Leave my Buddy alone." Andy said, when she finally set down her revenge draw 4. "And the color is yellow."
Buck pursed his lips, turned his glare at Andy, and picked is four cards from the deck. It was now Eddie's turn and he placed a skip card down.
"Dad!" Chris whined.
"Sorry, Mijo." Eddie said sheepishly.
Andy still had a smug look on her face as she placed down a yellow draw two.
"Okay now, I think you've got your revenge." Evan protested.
Buck took his two cards and Eddie placed down his card. Chris then set his card down.
"UNO!" He cheered.
The adults smiled brightly at Christopher. Andy then took her turn, then Buck, and then. Eddie. It was Chris' turn once again and he placed his final card down.
"Yes, I won!"
They all cheered for him and gave him high fives. Buck scooped up the cards and began to shuffle them.
"Another round?" Buck suggested.
"Sure." Andy said. "But first I have to use the little ladies room."
"I'll go get some drinks." Eddie said. "Chris, you want to come help?"
Chris nodded enthusiastically, loving when any adult asked him for help. Buck smiled adoringly at the boy and continued to shuffle the deck of cards. At that moment Buck heard Andy's phone ping with incoming texts one after another. Now, Buck wasn't one to snoop into people's privacy, but curiosity got the best of him. He wanted to know who was being so persistent on getting Andy's attention. Buck's blood ran cold when he saw it was Diego texting Andy and the context of the texts.
"Andy, where are you!?"
"I thought you were going to be with Marisol? She says she hasn't seen you. You need to CALL me back ASAP!"
Buck flinched when Andy's phone began to ring. Apparently, Diego was highly impatient and decided to call Andy instead, it stopped after a few seconds. Another text came through.
"Why aren't you answering your phone!?"
"You need to come home NOW!"
Buck was increasingly getting angry at each incoming text. Who the hell did this guy think he was? He was ordering her around like he was part of his property. And home? Did that mean that him and Andy were already living together? Buck heard the soft click of the bathroom door and Andy came rushing back to the dining room, Buck feigned like he was still shuffling the deck.
"Remind me not to drink so much cranberry juice next time."
Buck chuckled. "I promise."
Andy picked up her phone from the table and saw the missed texts and calls, a soft curse spilled from her lips.
"Umm, I'm sorry. I'm going to have to take a rain check on that next round. I forgot that I have to meet Marisol to go shopping."
Buck furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. Why was Andy lying? The firefighter stood up stopped Andy from walking away by grabbing her by the wrist.
"Is everything okay? You seem kind of panicked, almost scared." Buck asked, trying to make eye contact with his friend, who seemed to be looking everywhere but at him.
"Yeah, everything's fine. It's just that I forgot, and Marisol is going to kill me because I'm late."
Buck searched Andy's eyes, begging her to tell him the truth, silently letting her know that he's here for her.
"You'd tell me if something was wrong, right?" Buck asked softly, pleading.
Andy hesitated for minute, opening her mouth like there was something at the tip of her tongue, but she couldn't say it. She placed a hand on Buck's cheek.
"I would. And I promise you that everything is fine." Andy said and placed a kiss on Buck's cheek. "Now, I have to go because you know how much of a diva Marisol is."
And with that she turned and walked away, her hand slipping out of Buck's grasp. She lied to him, looked him in the eye and lied. As the door clicked closed Eddie and Christopher came back from the kitchen.
"Where's Andy?" Eddie asked.
"She left." Buck whispered.
"Aww, I didn't get to say goodbye to Blu." Christopher said, crestfallen.
Buck walked over to Eddie; worry etched all over his face. "There's something wrong Eds."
"I…I think that Diego is mentally abusing her." Buck choked out.
Eddie let out a sigh. "I don't think it's just mentally."
Buck's heart sank. He couldn't believe that it was happening again. Maddie's story was repeating itself. How could Buck have been so stupid to let her walk away again? If anything happened to Andy, Buck would never forgive himself.
