Chapter 50 The last days of summer

28th August 1994, Wizengamot, Ministry of Magic

Amelia sighs. She knows today is going to be a difficult day. It is times like this she wishes she never became the director of the DMLE and that she had another sibling or Susan's parents still lived so she wouldn't have to sit in the wizengamot although she hoped Susan's parents lived for more than only the wizengamot even if she sees Susan as her own daughter.

She is one of the first in the wizengamot room as the room slowly starts to fill. It is the first meeting after the summer recess and normally it isn't important but just as last year something very important happen. The Dark Mark has been seen and cast for the first time in almost 13 years.

At 09:59 am Dumbledore walks in and takes his seat. Amelia can tell at his behaviour he doesn't know about Harry's encounter or just doesn't care. Before she can think about it Dumbledore asks the Aurors to close the door.

This is a closed wizengamot session instead of open to the public what normally it is although mostly no one except the political reporter of the Daily Prophet and Rita Skeeter to find a scandal by reading between the lines even if there are none. Sometimes Heirs are present to see how the wizengamot operates but this time none of them is here.

Dumbledore still stands and says "I welcome everybody to the first Wizengamot meeting after the summer recess 1994" before announcing that there is no difference in seats. Amelia notice Dumbledore isn't happy as his means that the Potter and Peverell are still unoccupied after the proxies has been removed last Christmas. Amelia wonders if Harry did it or someone else.

She thinks to herself 'I need to talk to Harry. If the Death Eaters are on the move maybe Sirius tried to get to Harry but failed. But why would Sirius do something to Harry? He was so proud that you almost could believe Harry was Sirius's child.'

Amelia focuses back on Dumbledore just as he says "I think we all saw the article from Rita Skeeter. She has brought a rumour to the public, that is completely false. Despite the attackers escaped there have been no casualties neither muggle nor magical."

You can clearly hear a few relieved sighs around the room and a couple of more disappointment groans among the darker families. Amelia sees that Malfoy stands up and knows what he was planning probably is ready to be announced. If she can guess Malfoy was part of the attack or at least organized it to finalize his plan.

Dumbledore sees Malfoy stand up and says "the wizengamot acknowledge Lord Malfoy."

Malfoy says "thank you, Chief Warlock. While our respected Chief Warlock says there are no casualties it did come to my attention that some of the muggle site managers did get hurt. If I remember correctly almost a year ago Director Bones created a department that should protect muggles from wizards and witches."

"I think we can better disband the department and at the very least return the department to their original, unnecessary and little size. It makes some money free we can use on other departments that at least work or compensation for some of our more respected houses and the countries that were bothered by what happened."

Amelia stands up and says "Lord Malfoy while I prefer that we protect the muggles the new department is to investigate any attack and find the attacker or attackers. As it is Death Eaters that attacked the attackers are known. However, because of the masks, we cannot identify them. Also, they managed to prevent the muggles from being killed what the Death Eaters probably were more than happy to do the department did what they are supposed to do."

"Unfortunately, some muggles got hurt but it could have been much worse. Also, the physical injury was healed within a minute. The concussion needs some more time to heal as magical healing a concussion is dangerous. A concussion isn't a serious injury. But from all the muggles who were simply played with by the Death Eaters most were saved without harm by the department."

Malfoy says "it is clearly obvious the department failed Director Bones but I didn't expect anything less by the blood traitor Arthur Weasley. Your diversion as the true purpose of the department does not fool anyone except yourself. As this is just a waste of money I want a vote for the disbanding of this department for obvious reasons."

Amelia who still standing says "the same as last year Lord Malfoy you cannot force to disband the department. Only I as director of the DMLE can do that."

Malfoy says "of course Director Bones. In that case, I demand to stop funding this disgrace of a department and return the department to their sole purpose regarding muggle artefacts and their previous size. If needed move the Aurors to the Auror office as this attack definitely show that Arthur Weasley doesn't know how to use his Aurors maybe the Auror Office can make use of them or at least make them barely respectable Aurors out of them if they even pass to become Aurors."

This time Lord Goyle second Malfoy. Before Dumbledore can ask for a vote Madam Longbottom stands up. Dumbledore says "the wizengamot acknowledge Madam Longbottom."

Madam Longbottom says "thank you, Chief Warlock."

She looks around the wizengamot and says "Lords and Ladies of the wizengamot here we are talking about a department that did is a job where personal grudges guide the discussion while we need to know what they did and how they entered and escaped with the strong wards that didn't break."

While some were swayed by Madam Longbottom Amelia sees that if there comes a vote it will be a tight call. Amelia didn't expect Malfoy got after Arthur's department but she should have. As it crossed her mind she has an idea that can save the department although barely and will certainly decrease the effectiveness. Indeed, the department didn't have many operations like the Auror office has but still has some that Arthur managed to complete with almost no casualties on both sides after the first operation.

Amelia says "you are right Madam Longbottom. However, the department is needed as it helps keep us hidden from the muggles and can help our Aurors blend in with the muggles and not stand out as we did at the World Cup. If our Aurors can blend in it would be easier to keep the International Statute of Secrecy in place."

Malfoy says "Madam Longbottom there is no grudge here. It is just a fact and therefore I want the money to be used where it could do some good."

Almost of one man four other Lords near Malfoy stand up to second the vote.

Dumbledore says "there is enough support for a vote. Should the budget for the department Misuse of Muggle Artefacts be lowered to before the department was expended and the Aurors from the department moved to the Auror office if they pass the Auror exam?"

Amelia says "excuse me Chief Warlock but most of the Aurors are still in their training. As they were not required to fight against dark wizards they followed the training but were allowed to be used by the department head and as there were no casualties it was the right decision."

Amelia knows she gave irrelevant information but hopes it sways some more vote for her.

Dumbledore says "ah I see Director Bones. The Aurors will continue their training with the other Auror trainees until they fulfilled the three years and will either pass or fail. Please vote."

A few minutes later Amelia has a hard to not letting her face show her emotion. Malfoy won the vote with 27 for to 23 against. Amelia was happy that the Aurors from Arthur department can continue the Auror training and therefore Arthur could still use them as he needs them and also that a part of the Great Alliance still supports her in most manners including this one.

She has almost the whole neutral faction backing her because of Jacob (Greengrass). A couple of light houses because of Madam Longbottom. Unfortunately, most of the light houses are traditional and while they do not hate the muggles like the dark houses they still don't want any contact with muggles and therefore voted against her especially as Malfoy played it smart by supposedly putting the money in the Auror office.

Amelia will bet her monocle she only uses in the wizengamot and mostly in the important meetings that not even one Knut will be invested in the Auror Office. She wouldn't be surprised to hear that every Knut suddenly disappeared.

She is disappointed she needs to bring Arthur bad news especially as he was improving his planning skills together with Perkins. She is happy she gave Arthur the day off so she doesn't have to tell him immediately. She knows Arthur will appreciate the truth but will be very disappointed.

Dumbledore says "alright the funding will be pulled and given to the Auror Office to train and employ the Auror trainees. The remaining money will be used to improve relationships with countries that have suffered because of the attack."

Malfoy stands up again. Dumbledore says "the wizengamot acknowledge Lord Malfoy."

Malfoy gives a small nod and says "Lord and Ladies of the wizengamot the attack and the dark mark have seriously disturbed me and my family. I think most of us are also disturbed. To prevent those attackers get a foothold I think we should suspend all the trade and have the ministry only import the essentials by trading with countries. It is the best way to keep unsavoury people out of our country and community."

"If the ministry is too busy I suggest that we only allow trade by companies by suppliers who have been importing their goods for many years and all recent and future suppliers even from families should be suspended for an unlimited time until we found and captured the attackers and the unsavoury people who undoubtedly helped them. The imported goods can be a way for unsavoury wizards to enter our country as they oversee it and we can't be sure that the money spend to get the goods will be used to fund the attacks."

Jacob stands up as he needs to have the goods from the Potter and Black family as if this pass then his family and his company will be bankrupted by Halloween if not sooner. Daphne and Astoria's titration for the coming year has already been paid and even with this news he still wants them to go to Hogwarts, but if he wants them to finish Hogwarts what he wants he needs money.

Dumbledore says "the wizengamot acknowledge Lord Greengrass."

Greengrass nods and says "Lord and Ladies this a desperate act of a desperate person. The ministry is already very overstretched as it is and can't possibly do the trade and can barely oversee trade. We have many goods we need and import. We need the export f we can't afford the import. If we suspend trade it gives the unsavoury wizards more leverage if they acquire goods we desperately need. To suspend trade is to make us weaker than stronger as Lord Malfoy claim. We need food and supplies for our society to keep functioning. If we don't our society will decrease and the muggles will take over. If they happen to find us out without food and supplies we cannot defend ourselves."

Jacob doesn't hate muggles but he hopes with the fear of muggles he can sway many votes to his side.

Malfoy still remained standing says "Lord Greengrass you can't possibly think muggles can stop us. Our society has only grown and it will continue to flourish with the goods we have imported until Yule last year. Why would we do not suspend trade to only the suppliers we have had for years."

Jacob can see clear as day that this is partly if not fully to get him bankrupt as one of the major import and export companies to get to his daughters. Jacob wonders if it also to get money to fund the Death Eaters attacks he surely is one of the leaders from and maybe even planned the attack at the World Quidditch Cup.

Jacob thinks 'he maybe even attacked for this sole reason to get Daphne and Astoria. Maybe also to discredit Arthur Weasley's department. If he did that I must respect his Slytherin actions but that doesn't mean I hate ….. no, no despise him. And that will never change.'

Both Malfoy and Jacob get seconded. Dumbledore calls for a vote to suspend trade to only known suppliers that had been used for several years and to not allow any trade from suppliers that have been first been used between last summer and this summer including supplies from family properties outside of England to prevent any unsavoury wizards to enter England.

Jacob asks "Chief Warlock, shouldn't there be an investigation before we decide to pass this."

Before Dumbledore can say anything Malfoy says "sorry Chief Warlock to answer but as this is an emergency ordinance we need to call a vote for now."

Dumbledore agrees with Malfoy as he says "Lord Malfoy is right. We need to act and do this as an emergency ordinance or we give the Death Eaters, their associates and funders enough time to act."

Dumbledore calls for the vote again. Jacob has hope but deep downs he knows he needs a miracle to win this vote. There are a few others with import and export companies or at least have a connection with those companies. He hopes that they will support him but as he has a major import and export company and for a few the biggest competition and they undoubtedly know about his supply issue he wouldn't be surprised if they support Malfoy's idea.

The voting start. Almost a minute later he has trouble keeping his mask on. He lost spectacularly. The vote ends in 37 to 13. 37 members voted for Malfoy's idea. He sees that half of the neutral faction voted against him including some of the light families and almost the whole dark families. He got support from Amelia, Sarah and Madam Longbottom including her allies and his own ally including some of the neutral families that followed him always although have never discussed being allies.

Dumbledore says "Lord Malfoy your motion passed. Starting tomorrow the emergency ordinance is in effect. To allow suppliers you need to have evidence that you have been trading for at least a minimum of 5 years before the previous summer. If you don't have but now someone else who does the company or person is required to show the evidence if requested by the ministry."

Dumbledore says "I am happy to announce that the Tri-Wizard Tournament is ready to begin yesterday we have reached the last agreement with one of the parties. The Romanian Dragon reserve has agreed to move three nesting mothers for one of the tasks. Fortunately, there are a couple of nesting mothers or barely nesting mothers that will surely make the task the difficultly that is needed."

"As this is the first time in a long time that the Tri-Wizard Tournament is held and by the history of gruesome deaths sometimes by younger members the Minister, department Directors and I with the other headmaster and headmistress have decided only wizards and witches of age can enter their name and compete for the prestigious title of Tri-Wizard champion of your school, Tri-Wizard champion when you win the cup and a 1000 Galleons. All requirements and tasks have been met and decided. I hope none of you tells your children as this should be a nice surprise for all children especially at Hogwarts."

When nobody says anything for a few minutes Dumbledore asks "is there any other things we need to address?"

When nobody stands up he says "then I hereby close the wizengamot meeting and see everyone on the 11th of September for any pressing matters before we see everyone on the 2nd of October for our monthly meeting."

Dumbledore is the first one to walk out of the door. Jacob walks away quickly before Malfoy can corner him and insist that they need to discuss his newfound problem. Malfoy will say that he is sorry or that he had no other choice to protect England. Anyway, he will not see himself as the bad guy.

28th August 1994, Greengrass Manor

Jacob has just come back from the wizengamot meeting. He doesn't want to worry Daphne and Astoria but Isabel needs to know. He is already considering to follow Daphne's request he first denied and that is talking with Regent Potter and that also means Lord Black as possible for Astoria. Even if he can prevent bankruptcy from his company and family he will not have enough money earned to send Daphne and Astoria to school next year if he even earns any money in the coming years or how long the emergency ordinance lasts.

While his family is old they lost and gained a lot of money over the generations they never managed to build up a fortune like some other families although only the real old families (Longbottom, Potter, Black and rumoured Bones) have a fortune. Other families have savings like his own but as he needed to pay fines to his buyers and need to pay extra to his new suppliers his savings were drained a bit and don't have much left. He is also afraid of what the different shareholders are going to do when they don't get a profit and probably even need to pay to keep the company from bankruptcy.

He knows he needs to tell Isabel and he needs to do it fast as she always knows when something is bothering him even if he tries his Slytherin mask or maybe that is the reason she knows. Before Jacob can think more about it his House-Elf Siri pops in and says that a letter has arrived for him. Jacob has got an idea who would send him a letter at this time and asks Siri to put it in his office. He will look at it shortly.

He walks to the kitchen to get a strong drink and is happy when sees nobody is in the kitchen. He walks to his office and sees his wife and daughters in the backyard smiling with each other. This only increases his desire to make sure that nothing happens to them and keep them happy, This is also one of the very few times these last years that he sees Daphne (genuine) smile and be happy.

When he is in his office and looks at the letter without opening it he already knows who sent him the letter, it is Malfoy. He opens it but he already knows what is in the letter. After a few minutes, he is furious. It is a wonder the letter doesn't burst into flames. Malfoy 'offered' to help him out and use his connections to save his business if Malfoy gets the business as compensation and for his effort, Jacob sign the new marriage contracts for Daphne and Astoria.

Jacob looks at the marriage contract not to sign them even if Daphne and Astoria weren't betrothed he would never sign them a marriage contract with Malfoy or any of the dark families. He is curious how bold Malfoy is now he thinks he won. He wants to see what Malfoy put in it. He can't believe Malfoy thought he would even consider it. Astoria's marriage contract was nothing less than a slave contract for House Malfoy while Daphne's contract was only marginally better at best but as it was for House Greengrass some outrageous things in Astoria's contract couldn't be in Daphne's but that is the only difference as limiting her freedom like Astoria was almost the same. The freedom is the same but just uses different words in the contract but it means the same limitations.

What makes Jacob the maddest is the threat Malfoy made. Malfoy hopes before he signs the marriage contracts nothing will happen to him, Isabel and his daughters but that he will do his best to protect his daughters if he signs the marriage contracts.

He grabs out of his desk parchment, ink bottles and a beautiful quill. After 15 minutes he has written three letters. The first letter is for Regent Potter. The second is for Lord Black and the last one is for Malfoy but he waits until sending Malfoy's letter until he has talked with Regent Potter and Lord Black.

Jacob calls for Siri to ask Isabel to come to the office as he needs to talk to her. Siri does and tells Jacob Isabel will. Barely 5 minutes later Isabel walks into the office and Jacob waves his wand to close and lock the door. Isabel thinks she knows what Jacob wants as this isn't the first time he locks the office. The office is also the place where Astoria was created when he was stressed as he needed to do many things after his father as Lord Greengrass was murdered.

Jacob sees Isabel smile but it falters when he says "please Isabel take a seat. I have some bad news."

Isabel takes the seat at the desk and asks "that bad?"

Jacob nods. Jacob tells Isabel what happens in the wizengamot.

Isabel asks "what should we do? We must do something. Daphne and Astoria want to go to Hogwarts. It is also important as Daphne's betroth and most probably also Astoria's betroth go to Hogwarts."

Jacob says "I know. Here read what Malfoy send me."

Isabel looks and she gets very mad even more than Jacob. Even though she is very mad she knows that Malfoy can make the threat happen. While Greengrass manor has defensive wards like most houses with enough power and men their wards will fall. It will only be a matter of time.

Isabel asks "please tell me you have a plan, Jacob?"

Jacob nods and says "I have but only for the money and our daughters. If Malfoy decides to attack us I don't have a plan for us."

Isabel says "I don't care. If our daughters are safe that is all that matters."

Jacob says "dear I agree."

Isabel thinks she knows what Jacob will do but still asks "then what is your plan?"

Jacob says "there is only one thing to do. Talk with Regent Potter and Lord Black. They can help with money to keep sending Daphne and Astoria to Hogwarts at least until their OWL's after that it is Harry's or Regent Potter's choice for Daphne and Heir Black or Lord Black for Astoria. There is a chance that if they pay for the next two years for Daphne and Astoria the next few years that we cannot go against their decision if they will go get NEWT's or not even if we can pay for them."

Isabel nods and says "I understand but we can talk with them right?"

Jacob nods and says "if and when we talk to them we can express our wishes but it in the end it is their decision. While Lily parents paid her tuition I think James would have done it if her parents couldn't and I hope Harry is the same even though we have no choice if we want Daphne to at least get her OWL's at Hogwarts, but to be honest we won't have the money to send her to another school by Halloween if we are lucky. I am lucky we already bought all supplies and Daphne's dress."

Isabel nods and asks "but what about Astoria?"

Jacob says "we must hope that Heir Black and Lord Black is a good person."

Isabel says "I tried to find out but I have no idea who Lord Black can be. Malfoy has the best claim but he hasn't shown you the Lord ring or his son the Heir ring. It should be Sirius Black but he is an escaped convict. The Goblins cannot allow him to give him the Lordship of House Black it against the ministry law that Gringotts is bound to."

Jacob says "yes dear but doesn't forget that is the ministry law but Gringotts is Goblin Nation territory the laws of the ministry aren't the laws of Gringotts also to my knowledge is the last peace agreement there is nothing said about this law."

Isabel says "but why would Sirius Black go to Gringotts he needs to go through Daigon Alley and there is always a lot of Aurors presence when he was in England. The Auror presence now decreased as Sirius Black has fled England, but what if he is who would he choose as Heir?"

Jacob says "I don't know I would say Harry Potter but he betrayed the Potters so that is no change. He says it isn't Malfoy and I think that is the truth or Malfoy wouldn't try this and would be more taunting me than threatening us."

Isabel says "I guess you are right. So should we tell Daphne and Astoria?"

Jacob shakes his head and says "no, I don't want to spoil their mood. We can tell them after I manage to talk with Regent Potter and Lord Black to make sure they at least until their OWL's stay at Hogwarts when they want to help, decide different schools or they don't want to help at all."

Isabel says "I am sorry Jacob to disagree but while I understand your good intention don't you think it is better to let them know. It wouldn't surprise me if Malfoy tells his son to push the issue and maybe even forces them by threatening us. And if they think we don't know they think they are saving us. I am afraid what while happen to Daphne as she will do anything she is ordered to do if it saves Astoria or even if it means Astoria does get spared a bit."

Jacob sighs as he knows Isabel is right.

Jacob says "maybe you are right. Can you look at these two letters? I was planning to send them to Gringotts like in Marriage Contract was spoken of and as we don't know who Lord Black is Gringotts should know and will send it to him. I may cost a fee but we got no other choice."

Isabel reads the letter and says "seriously Jacob. Stop being a Slytherin for two seconds. This is important. You are being vague. Tell them the truth that you want to talk about the marriage contract because Malfoy has you on the ropes. Regent Potter being good friends with James and Lily will certainly want to help you. Lord Black may not hate Malfoy but certainly doesn't like him or he would have to keep Malfoy's son his Heir. Also mention that Harry's betrothed is in danger and in Lord's Black letter his Heir's betroth is in danger because of Malfoy."

Jacob says "but Isabel showing weakness i…."

Isabel glares and says "this is not about weakness this is about our daughters. I don't care if we need to beg on our bare knees as long as it protects our daughters I will do anything."

Jacob says "alright I will tell the truth. I love you and accept your advice but please don't ever do or tell something like this when other Lords or Ladies are around."

Isabel walks around the table and snog Jacob.

After a few minutes, she stops and says "I know dear but sometimes you are too Slytherin. Don't forget that they become family and you promised you will be honest to family. They are no matter what want even with the out in Harry's and Daphne's marriage contract as you saw earlier this summer she really loves him. The only way it out is if they don't love each other or if they are sure that they can't be happy being together. They need to answer by Veritaserum, Truth Serum and if they tell the truth they need to magically vow and oath on their magic."

Jacob burns the letters before grabbing another parchment. The ink bottle and the quill were still on his desk.

He says "Bella I didn't really lie I just didn't tell the whole truth."

Isabel says "you're not getting out of this Jacob. It is so very Slytherin that it isn't lying but it will feel like lying and that is what matters."

Jacob says "Lord Black will probably admire it. All Blacks from the last generations have been Slytherins except Sirius Black."

Isabel gives a look that says enough to Jacob. It is the look of you know I am right and you better do what I say or you will be sleeping on the couch even if we have free beds. Jacob knows he can force the issue as it is his family manor and he is the Lord but he loves his wife too much to force the issue when she gives that look as he knows he will lose and just do what Isabel think was the best course of action.

When he has written the new letter he let Isabel read hem and she smiles and says "yes Jacob his is much better."

Jacob stands up and put the letters in an envelope. He says "I will go to the owlery and I will tell Astoria and Daphne at dinner."

28th August 1994, kitchen, Greengrass Manor

The dinner is nearing its end. Just a dessert is served Jacob says "Daphne and Astoria I have some bad news. I wanted to wait to tell you this but your mother points out you should better know. Before I continue I want to let you know that I plan to talk to a few people to prevent it, but as I am not sure it going to work I will tell you."

Daphne and Astoria look confused, a bit afraid and unhappy. Daphne and Astoria both know if their father is telling them bad news it is very important. Daphne is afraid it is about Harry.

Jacob knew this was going to happen. He says "today in the wizengamot Malfoy proposed an emergency ordinance. Fudge agreed as he didn't go against it. I wanted to delay it as for any law we want to pass investigation is needed. However, as an emergency ordinance, no investigation is needed."

"The emergency ordinance it so not allowing new suppliers to import from and no export to those suppliers. Not even from families, it is allowed. I didn't want to warn you but Malfoy tried by buying out my suppliers but I had new suppliers and some farms from a few families that would help but now that all falls away."

"To tell easily if I don't get any suppliers from other companies the business will be bankrupt and so will be our family. It means we may need to sell the manor and our vacation house on the southern coast of England and the vacation house we wanted in France will surely not happen if ever."

Jacob sighs and says "this will also mean that this will be your last year at Hogwarts for both of you."

Daphne immediately says although disappointed "we can return my dress."

Jacob says "that is not needed, Daphne. Also, I didn't want you to. Is very important not to."

Isabel asks hotly "what do you mean Jacob?"

Jacob says "please don't be mad Isabel, but if Daphne can make Harry fall in love with her by her beauty then we have a problem less. Harry is a teenage boy after all."

Isabel shot up and screams "JACOB HOW DARE YOU. WE DON'T TREAT OUR DAUGHTERS LIKE A COMMODITY IN OUR HOUSE. WE DON'T TREAT THEM AS THOSE DARK AND EVIL FAMILIES DO. YOU WANT TO OFFER DAPHNE TO HARRY TO GET MONEY. AND I SAID IT BEFORE DON'T YOU DARE MANIPULATE HARRY."

Jacob says "no Isabel Dear you are wrong I don't mean any of those things. We don't know what Malfoy plans if Harry accepts Daphne she will be safe from Malfoy especially the Malfoy Heir as what I understand from Daphne, Draco Malfoy always try to win against Harry Potter but never beat Harry not once not in Quidditch or in classes at least the practical except potions but that is more because of Snape."

"What I mean is that it looks like this it he last year at least that we can send them. As you and I both want you to continue Hogwarts and they get their OWL"s and NEWT's. It is the law that every wizard and witch must at least follow education be it in school or be homeschooled except muggleborns and get their OWL's around age 15 or 16."

"As Daphne wanted I will try to meet Regent Potter in the coming weeks and if possible I will also with Lord Black. If they are willing to help we may get both of them to continue Hogwarts there is however one downside. If they pay for you if they don't want you to continue after your OWL's we cannot deny and even if we do have enough money after that to pay for you we cannot."

"There is also things they can ask of us that includes things from both of you Daphne and Astoria. While I do my best to not let it come to that I am not sure if I can. Anyway, we tell you this so you will not think if Draco Malfoy starts to threaten your mother and me that you need to protect us as that isn't needed. We know that Malfoy is threatening us without saying those words in a letter he sent me."

"You don't need to worry about us and don't let yourself believe even one word of Draco Malfoy even if he threatens to get us killed. We will not go down easy and I expect that before the year is out he will try to get us into further problems. If your betroth houses help us any money problem will be solved and that is also the root of our problems."

"I don't care how much money Malfoy manage to get together. House Potter and House Black are probably one of the most riches houses in Britain if not the world. There is no way Malfoy have more than them. I would be a wonder if he even got a third of the total wealthy of House Potter or House Black."

Jacob smiles at both of his daughters "now you don't need to worry."

Daphne asks "father when do you think we will go bankrupt."

Jacob sighs as he hoped his daughter trust his words, but it seems they want to know more. He says "I think that it will be by Halloween, if we are lucky we will reach November, but I hope to get help before that. If House Potter and/ or House Black don't want to help some others offered to help us."

Daphne asks "let me talk to Harry. If Hermione Granger is right he will help."

Jacob says "while I would love nothing more, Daphne. Until he knows about the marriage contract try to become friends and not to get something from him as the-boy-who-lived he probably have enough of those. Also as a minor, he should not have access to his family vault and if he has a trust vault he may not have enough money to pay the tuition for you and Harry. The Regent should be able to have some access to the family vault enough to pay your school stuff if not high end and your tuition."

"Also Daphne you are a Slytherin and he is a Gryffindor while I do not hate Gryffindors the Slytherins now surely seem to hate them and you should watch yourself and Astoria for now."

Jacob focuses on Astoria and says "Astoria as I also want to talk to Lord Black I will ask him directly who his Heir is as I still believe it isn't Draco Malfoy."

Astoria gives a small smile. While Daphne seems to be thinking real hard.

Jacob says "now enjoy the dessert and doesn't worry."

The dessert is Daphne and Astoria's favourite (which is also Isabel's favourite). Astoria and Daphne slowly start. The trust in her father and what they think of Harry by Hermione and Susan make them ease their nerves and enjoy the last two days.

28th August 1994, Gringotts

Earlier Bonecrusher is working in his office making sure that the Potter and Black accounts are for the change Regent Potter or Lord Black needs them when a runner comes in with two letters. Bonecrusher grabs the letters and says to the runner "bring me the best eagle."

A few minutes the runner comes back with a large strong-looking eagle. Bonecrusher ties the letter's to his feet and says "bring the letters to Regent Potter and Lord Black."

The eagle shrieks and takes off as fast as the eagle can.

28th August 1994, The Burrow

It is just after dinner. Harry has spent the whole day flying outside with Ron, Ginny and for a couple of hours the twins and Bill. Charlie was away most of the day with meetings regarding the Dragon reserve. Charlie didn't tell what be every time he looks at Ron, Ginny, Harry and the twins he gets a mischievous smile. However, when he looks at the twins he also has a bit of fear but manages to suppress it.

Bill sees Harry in the living room while Mrs. Weasley is busy in the kitchen, Mr. Weasley was in his shed working on his hobby what he likes to do when he has time, Charlie is resting after the finishing meetings earlier today. Everything was already agreed but some additions needed to be discussed and apparently, it was a hard and tiring meeting. Ron is probably in his room reading anything but his schoolbooks. The twins are in their room doing Merlin know what. Bill smile as he sees that Ginny is leaning against Harry while both of them read a book.

Bill wonders if Harry knows what Ginny and Hermione are doing or if Harry is really that thick. He wonders if he maybe needs to talk to Harry about it but he doesn't know if it is his place and also he trusts that Ginny has a plan as this is her childhood hero she starts to love really and not because of the book that is as clear as day. Hermione seems to be alright with Ginny even the one in the million chance Ginny hasn't had an idea with everything he heard Hermione will always have a dream. Bill wonders if Hermione knows about the law that allows both to be with Harry if not more girls. Bill decide to not intervene for the chance he ruins Ginny plans and make Ginny furious with him.

Bill asks "Harry is am wondering if you found a picture to put in the locket?"

Harry looks up and says "I have but can you show me how you put the picture in?"

Bill says "sure but I think I said it before it is not the original only a perfect copy goes in the locket."

Harry says "alright I will get the picture."

Harry gently says "Ginny, could you get up I need to get something."

Ginny with a little disappointed sound moves to let her back falls against the back of the couch instead of Harry. Bill tries to not smile as Ginny looks a bit mad at Bill.

Harry return a couple of minutes later with a book and the locket. He sits next to Ginny and opens the book. Ginny has heard about this book. It is the book Hagrid gave Harry with pictures of his parents and Harry has added pictures of himself with Hermione and Ron. She hopes one day she will be in this book with Harry. She also knows this is one of Harry's most prized possessions.

Harry browse the pages until he stops. He says "I would like this one."

Bill and Ginny look. It is a picture of his parents with a baby Harry in their arms looking full of love and admiration while playing a bit before smiling at the camera. Ginny and Bill want to say something but it is clear Harry finds it still difficult emotional but still likes he has at least something of his parents.

Harry doesn't know if it's love that they show but he thinks it is although he thinks 'I will never know it if was as I will never know how it will feel like. Sure Padfoot and Moony care but it is still different than my own parents ever have loved me if Padfoot and Moony are right. But did they?'

He suddenly gets hugged from the side and sees Ginny. He gives a small smile before he looks at Bill and points to the picture and says "I would like this own if you don't mind."

Bill says "sure Harry now look closely. This is how you copy and place the picture. You also place the original one but let's put in a copy now. It will also show you how to remove a picture so you put in a new one if you want."

Four spells later Bill showed how to make a copy, place it, remove it before he place it again. Bill says "that is how you do it. I think if you don't remember one of the Professors would be more than happy to help you. I think Professor McGonagall and Professor Flitwick will be more than happy to help you. Although I think most Professors can do it I guess you don't want all the Professors to know about the book."

Harry nods as he slowly let his finger touch the picture Bill copied to make sure the picture is still there. When he feels it still being there he put it on the locket. He smiles and Bill says "if Hermione is here early enough I will give her the name of the spell as I am sure she will find it if the twins are right."

Harry says "Hermione can probably find it in the Hogwarts library."

29th August 1994, The Burrow

It is very early and Harry like normally is already awake. He hasn't slept well. He feels like he misses something. Harry is disappointed that he doesn't get a kiss anymore as he really likes it although he would never admit it. His relatives were very clear that no one would ever want to do it. He wonders why Ginny and Hermione did it, but that is probably also the reason they stopped as they wouldn't want to do it.

Harry decides to go running outside to forget his relatives and empty his mind. He tries to but he can't stop thinking and after less than half an hour he decides to go back to the Burrow to take a shower before breakfast.

When he walks in he sees as normal Mrs. Weasley already preparing breakfast. Mr. Weasley needed to be at the ministry very early as the last few days because of the Dark Mark.

Mr. Weasley got a message that Amelia needs to talk to him and he has a feeling why. Amelia told Lucius Malfoy was planning something and with the muggle camp managers getting hurt will not capture any of the magical perpetrators he wouldn't be surprised if his sub-department is downsized again and most responsibilities will be revoked to only what the department stands for the misuse of muggle artefacts.

Harry sees a small bit of parchment lying on the table. He grabs it and reads it before putting it down and thinks 'what a weird phrase.'

Harry goes up to get some clothes before taking a shower.

29th August 1994, Heathgate, Hampstead

It is very early but Hermione, Emma and Dan were already busy. Hermione will go back to the Weasley. She can't wait to see Harry again but she will miss her parents a lot. She had a very good time and yesterday with the nice weather and her father's barbecue will make her miss them, even more, when she will be at Hogwarts. It will take a least to Yule before she can see them again.

She goes back to the Weasley's as her parents will leave September 1st very early and have a lot of appointments before as they will be gone for the better part of September. Anyone who would normally have an appointment when they are out of the country wants to do it before Dan and Emma leave. That is also one of the reasons Hermione stays at the Weasley's and will go with them to King's Cross station as her parents will be gone hours before she can enter platform 9 ¾.

29th August 1994, Leaky Cauldron, London

Dan agreed to take Hermione to the Leaky Cauldron but first brings Emma to their dental practice as it is almost on the way to London. When Dan park in front of the Leaky Cauldron what looks to him as a broken-down old shop he says "we are here sweetie."

Hermione nods. Dan steps out of the car so he can properly say goodbye to Hermione. Hermione steps out and Dan gives Hermione a big hug. He has thought about Hermione and Ginny sharing and who knows who else and as it makes Hermione happy he will accept it.

To be honest he wonders if it would work while on the other hand, he knows it will as Hermione seems determent to make it work and that will make it. He doesn't know if he should envy Harry or feel pity for him especially as Harry can be very reckless especially at his age and he knows Hermione will probably be livid with rage if he does something that will hurt him or even could kill him Dan can barely suppress the word yet in his mind.

Dan says "sweetie I have thought about what you said about sharing Harry with Ginny and I am willing to accept it but only as long as Harry treats you right and you are happy in this situation."

Hermione hugs her father even tighter and says "I know Harry will that is why he is my best friend and I can't think of any situation when I won't be happy. I may not always be happy but that is more about something he did than the situation. I also know that Harry would rather hurt himself what happened more than once than others. If we get a relationship I am almost certain it becomes even more important for Harry and will try to treat us equally even if that isn't really possible with school and stuff."

Dan smiles and says "even if it is difficult if anyone can I know you can Hermione and don't be too hard on Harry."

Hermione says "I know how Harry can be. I don't see why I will be hard on Harry."

Dan says "you say that now Hermione but remember this when such a situation appears. I wonder if you still think the same then. Now you better go to the Weasley's they expect you every moment now, don't forget to write us."

Hermione says "I will just make sure when Hedwig arrives that you got some nice water and some owl treats ready."

Hermione grabs her bag and wants to walk into the Leaky Cauldron when her father says "we will honey but you forget someone."

Hermione wants to ask who when she hears a meow. She can't believe she almost forgot Crookshanks just at the mere idea that Harry is waiting on her.

Hermione grabs Crookshanks crate and says "ah Crookshanks I am sorry but I couldn't wait to get to Ha…. the Weasley's."

Hermione knows that her father most likely noticed her slip up. She looks and sees her father smile.

She says "alright yes I can't wait to see Harry but also Ginny. I actually hope Ginny's oldest brothers are still there as I like to know more about being a curse breaker and a Dragonologist."

Dan says "well then you better hurry. I need to or I will be late for my first appointment."

Hermione gives her father again a hug. Dan says "I want to see a letter if you know why you need dress robes. And when Harry asked you."

Hermione says "we talked about this daddy only if Ginny doesn't need a fourth year to go with otherwise I need to talk with Ginny about it. Maybe it is better or fair if we both don't go with Harry."

Dan says "I know sweetie but who knows, just believe what we do and that is that he loves you even if he doesn't know yet. Even if he doesn't ask you he loves you your mother is sure and like you, she is barely wrong. I also think he loves you. Oh, look at the time now I really need to go."

Hermione small blushingly says "bye Daddy" waves before walking into the Leaky Cauldron.

29th August 1994, The Burrow

The moment she floo in the burrow Ginny is already waiting for her. Hermione opens Crookshanks crate and as soon as Crookshanks is out of the crate Hermione put Crookshanks crate to the ground. The moment the crate hits the ground Ginny hugs Hermione and whisper in her ear "welcome sister. Finally, we can kiss Harry good night again. It was very hard to not do so."

Before Ginny can say more Mrs. Weasley appear in the kitchen door opening and says "good morning dear. I hope you had a great time visiting your parents and have a nice time. Why don't you put the stuff in Ginny's room and rest."

Hermione wants to decline when Ginny says "sure mom. Hermione, did you have breakfast?"

Hermione says "only a small one."

Mrs. Weasley smile and says "well that just won't do. Breakfast will be done shortly, you can rest until it."

Hermione smiles and follows Ginny to her room.

29th August 1994, Ginny's room, The Burrow

As soon as they walk-in Ginny says "Hermione I have wonderful news."

Hermione says "I thought so. What is it?"

Ginny says "when you left the morning on the 27th we all had a fun day. Then the evening when we went to bed I only said goodnight to Harry and didn't kiss him as we did. You should have seen his face he looks confused and didn't kiss him and he looked very disappointed. He looked so disappointed that I almost caved and give him one anyway, Fortunately, I could resist but it was barely. It almost hurt. I hope I don't have to do that again."

Hermione gives Ginny and a big hug. She says "thank you so much Ginny for resisting. I also have good news."

Ginny looks at Hermione to continue. Hermione smiles and says "I told my parents about our plan and while my Daddy wasn't happy at first, but he accept it this morning. He likes Harry and when I told them I am happy with the situation I think they are happy for me while trying to accept it if they haven't already."

Almost 15 minutes later Mrs. Weasley shouts that breakfast is ready. They were the first who are down as they are the closest to the kitchen. After them first Bill and Charlie come down before the twins and finally Harry and Ron. Hermione waits until Harry enters the room to give him a big hug and then takes a seat.

Harry says a bit awkwardly "hey Hermione, how are you parents and did you have fun?"

Hermione answered when Bill says "who moves the parchment?"

Harry says "I did Bill I hope you don't mind but I must say it is a weird phrase."

Bill says "no matter Harry."

Bill suddenly shouts "WAIT, YOU,,,,,, YOU CAN READ IT."

Harry says a bit confident "yes, why? Can't you?"

Bill says "Harry you have to tell me what it says."

Mrs. Weasley says "Bill no work at the table. You can ask Harry after breakfast. I know you need to leave soon after breakfast as does Charlie but I am sure you have a bit of time before you need to leave."

Bill says "alright Mom."

Bill start to wolf his food down. When he sees Harry does not he says "Harry please hurry up."

Before Mrs. Weasley can say anything Ginny looks with venom in her eyes something she has never done to him before she says "don't rush him."

Ginny turned to Harry and says gently "just eat easy Harry. Bill will wait and if he doesn't then he need to tell the Goblins he found someone who can read it but couldn't ask him much as he needed to return too soon. The goblins may even get mad for coming back while he had a lead."

Harry says "no worries Gin. I will eat fast so Bill won't get any problems."

Harry starts to wolf down his food and less than 15 minutes later with Bill having eaten three plates and Harry two they are excused by Mrs. Weasley. They walk to the living room and take a seat. Bill asks "Harry first can you tell me what is written."

Harry says "sure Bill. The phrase is he who speaks true, speaks the truth and finds the tongue.'

Bill asks "are you sure Harry?"

Harry nods. Harry says "I find it a rare phrase."

Bill says "yes and I can understand it doesn't make sense without the other … these are hieroglyphs right?"

Harry nods and says "I think so."

Charlie walks in and says "Bill it is time to go."

Bill cast Tempus and says "you are right Charlie. Let me write the translation Harry gave me and then get my 'small' trunk."

Bill return a few minutes later. Mrs. Weasley, Ginny, Hermione, Fred, George and Ron enter the room when they heard Bill coming down the stairs. Everyone says goodbye to Charlie and Bill. Charlie says "Mom, I hope to see you soon. To the others, I am sure to see you soon."

Charlie gives a wink and before anyone can ask what he means he floos out. Ginny asks "what does he mean?"

Fred says "maybe dad knows."

George says "we should ask him."

29th August 1994, The Burrow

Mr. Weasley came home and Mrs. Weasley knew immediately something was wrong. Mr. Weasley told Mrs. Weasley why Amelia needed to talk to him. Amelia told Mr. Weasley that Malfoy's plan worked to get his department returned to the original size.

Mr. Weasley is disappointed as he feels he was getting better at it. Amelia agreed but she didn't have the funds anymore and as all the budget was looked over by the wizengamot in December if someone notices that your department still got more money even if it is for your salary it will be difficult to explain.

Mr. Weasley understood and was happy he got at least his normal pay. He offered to tell Perkins. Amelia agreed before she said that his Auror will still be employed but as Trainees what will give all of them a lower salary and need to be as good as the other Aurors Trainee from their year.

When the twins, Ron, Ginny, Hermione and Harry enter Ginny immediately notice something is wrong and asks her father. Mr. Weasley says "well my department is back to his original size with just me and Perkins. Malfoy managed to get enough votes to do it."

They were all mad but Mr. Weasley says "I am also mad at him but there was nothing Director Bones could do. I can still do my job but if I need Aurors I need to request them from the Auror Office or through Director Bones. I can still work my hobby so I don't mind too much, to be honest, but the increased pay I had was welcome but we managed before and will manage now."

When they see that Mr. Weasley is speaking the truth the twins, Ron and Ginny ask Mr. Weasley what Charlie means or if he knows what is going on in Hogwarts but he didn't answer them and says "I heard rumours but even if that is true I don't want to spoil the surprise."

"Charlie did mention something but when I asked he said he will let me know soon. I think you will know before I thought as I guess Dumbledore will tell at the opening feast."

The twins as Ginny tried but Mr. Weasley didn't know but he knows if he asks the certain people he will know too but he didn't want to lie to his children and therefore didn't ask.

That night Harry is surprised and happy when Ginny and Hermione kiss him on his cheek again and he also got a big hug from both after the kiss.

The last two days Hermione only read while Harry, Ron and Ginny fly around to play Quidditch above the orchard. Ron told Harry that he want to try out for keeper as Oliver graduated. Harry hopes he can become the keeper. Harry and Ginny also read a lot with Hermione near them or when nobody was around or where busy cuddling up with Harry under the disguise of reading.

Ron didn't seem to notice but he was rarely near when they were reading. Ron slowly did a few things for school but that was mostly rewriting his essays or postponing them to Hogwarts. Ron was already trying to think how he can postpone it. He wonders if he can use the Dark Mark as a reason to postpone it.

Hermione and Ginny don't know why but Mrs. Weasley almost demanded Hermione to help Ron finish his homework. Hermione just couldn't decline as she had spent many days with them and even took her to the Quidditch World Cup. She tried to help Ron but he wasn't working at all. The essay's he did finish Hermione pointed out the errors and even gave him a start but he still didn't work on it and doesn't understand why he needs to do it at home. He will wait until he is in Hogwarts. Hermione tried to explain homework but Ron didn't listen and read something about the CHudley Cannons he had read many times before. Ron almost wanted to say he will find a way he gets to postpone it but was smart enough to not do that.

Let's end here for now. In the next chapter, we will see the train ride and Dumbledore's start of year speech with the big announcement. If the words allow it we will see how the fourth years go on in the first few weeks with the big announcements.
